Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented Alphabetically by the Metal Horn Unicorns

Rate this book
In this unique alphabet book, members of the Metal Horn Unicorn Tribe present 26 Magical Elements of the Periodic Table in alphabetical order.  Each member of the tribe has a metal horn and hooves. They also have magical powers based on the properties of their metals.

Alumna starts out the book by introducing the very necessary metal, aluminum, on her element page. Dr. Zinko rounds out the alphabet by presenting facts and other fun information about the metal, zinc, on his element page.  Other members of the Metal Horn Tribe from Unimaise, plus some of their magical elemental friends, will give some great insight into the properties of 23 additional pure metals from the periodic table.

There is one special unicorn in the book whose horn and hooves are an alloy created by combining copper and zinc. Cornum, the Brass Horned unicorn will reveal some interesting things about that metal.

While not all elements in the Periodic Table are represented by letters of the alphabet, some in this book, are introduced by alternate designations.  For instance, Tungsten is also known as Wolfram so “W” is used as the entry for that alphabetical letter in this book.  The letter “W” is also used as the atomic symbol for tungsten in all periodic tables.

Each element page in this book contains terms that might not be completely familiar.  Refer to the definitions in the back of the book to get a clear understanding of each meaning.  There is also a fun unicorn themed Periodic Table at the back of the book.

The Metal Horn unicorns from Unimaise and their other techno-magical unicorn friends are the perfect group to introduce you to metals and other elements in the Periodic Table.  Hopefully the Magical Elements of this periodic table book will spark an interest in the magical and real world properties of all the metals and other elements known today.  You may be surprised at how prominently they feature in our every day lives.

Hi:

I am the author of many different types of books. Some are technical and others are fanciful. Illustrated books are my favorite. I believe that you can capture a reader’s attention with a good story but amazing artwork will reel them in and keep them riveted.

Check out my newest series titled Magical Elements of the Periodic Table. Books are presented by unicorns, dragons and wizards. It's Techno-Magical.

Boo's Shoes is my last rabbit and fox book and it is a companion to Cleo Can Tie A Bow! Make sure to put it on your bookshelf so that you'll have it handy when you know someone who wants to learn to tie their shoelaces or any other kind of bow.

Journey To Osm - The Blue Unicorn's Tale is my first full-length novel. Please look for it on these Goodreads Listopia lists and give it a vote up on a few of them. https://www.goodreads.com/list/book/4...

Please look for "The Blue Unicorn's Journey To Osm Illustrated Book For Teens and Older Readers" on this Goodreads Listopia. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9... A vote from you would be fantastic.

I've also written a companion book for little children called "Unicorns From Unimaise - The Magical Metal-Horn Tribe."

I also believe if you teach a child with a story and pictures, they will remember it forever. With that in mind, I wrote the "Learn To Tie A Tie With The Rabbit and The Fox" series of instructional books for boys and girls.

You can also vote for it on the best book for children to learn how to tie, here:

This is a unique book written by the author. It has 25 magical Elements of the Periodic Table and 1 alloy in an alphabetical order. The author has explained the magical abilities and uses of these elements. Also, the "Did you know?" facts given at the end of the page are really interesting.

This book should be read by more children. They will learn about the elements in a simple way. I loved this book to form the base of the kids. The author is very thoughtful in using the colors for each page of the book.

It's the most creative book that I have come across this year. Sybrina should come up with more such books. It's an educational read. Parents should definitely buy this book for their kids.

Members of the Metal Horn Unicorn Tribe presented 26 Magical Elements of the Periodic Table in alphabetical order in this book. Each member has unique magical powers based on the properties of the Metals that they present.

This book is a fun way to learn about the periodic table and its elements alongside beautiful illustrations provided. There are terms that the reader might not be familiar with but the author has provided with definitions at the back of the book that readers can use to completely understand the information given.

The uses and facts about the elements surprised me and I really loved them. The interesting names of unicorns instantly caught my attention. Plus the illustrations are SUPERB!

There's also lovely 'No Metal No Magic' song lyrics at the end of the book. This book is quite unique and the creativity of the author is to be appreciated ✨ A five star read it is!

Thanks to @mbooktours and the author for giving me an opportunity to read this interesting book.

I’ve so much to say about this book. It’s a very different book from all the children’s books I’ve read before. Every children’s book has a prime message or information that is important for kids to learn or know about. But this book has so much for kids to learn especially the ones that are interested in chemistry - even adults can learn a lot from this book. I’m just amazed at how well-researched and innovative this book is! All the information is so nicely put together. You’ll learn about the elemental facts, daily uses and importance of elements along with cute illustrations that will keep your attention intact. At the end of the book, there are definitions so you can better understand the chemical and difficult terminologies. The labelled diagrams, pictorial representations and of course the colourful and vibrant unicorns make this book 10x more interesting. There’s also a ‘no metal no magic’ song at the last that is equally entertaining to read. More such books should be introduced to the kids so they learn and enjoy them simultaneously.

A unique alphabet book where elements of periodic table are magical creatures with hooves and horns containing magical powers based on properties of their metals.

It is a really fun way to introduce periodic table to young students. It presents properties, uses and characteristic of each metal. It is very informative with pretty and vibrant illustrations. It's a beneficial book not only for those primary school students interested in science but also for people who want to enhance their general knowledge about uses of metals in things of daily life. They can learn about 23 metals and facts about them in this book.
I loved how definitions were given at the end to help readers understand things they're not familiar with. And the poem No Metal, No Magic was really cute. ❤

If you are looking for a fun and easy way to teach your kids about the structure of elements in the periodic table, then get your hands on Sybrina Durant's book "Magical Elements of the Periodic Table".

This is a great Science book that will help kids acquire the initial knowledge about elements, compounds, alloys, etc. Kids would also get to know about the uses of elements in our day to day life. The author has also included elemental facts for each element. So, kids will get additional knowledge about the elements.

The language used in the book is simple and easy to follow. This book can be included in the school's syllabus. If you have a little reader in your family then add this book to his/her bookshelf. A book that I strongly recommend to my fellow young readers.

Magical Elements of the Periodic Table by Sybrina Durant is an informative; gorgeous; and, dare I say it, magical book for all ages. Whether reading for yourself or to a child, the information and illustrations will keep everyone enthralled and eagerly turning the page to discover the next element or alloy and to soak in the brilliant illustrations by Pumudi Gardiyawasam.

Sybrina has clearly spent a significant amount of time researching and compiling such a wonderful collection of elements/alloys to create this fabulous book. Unicorns are assigned to each element to add an extra touch of fascination beyond the scientific facts. Forging a deeper connection to the earth and all that it has to offer is the best way to learn, and Magical Elements of the Periodic Table provides a colorful and illuminating way to do just that. To be completely honest, every single delightful page is worthy of being framed and prominently displayed for all to see.

Each page includes common uses for the element or alloy and a ‘Did You Know?’ section. Brilliant! I wanted to pick a favorite or two but all made the list, so I guess I love every single one, from Alumna to Zinc and all the extra info at the end. All gushing aside, this sweet book will be the perfect choice for young readers learning the periodic table and for ALL readers who love finding entertaining ways to learn about elements and alloys from our great planet, sprinkled generously with charm and enchantment.

When you reach the last page or before you even begin, go to the song website listed at the bottom of the page that has song lyrics (toward the end of the book) for a super duper, extra special treat.

I received a free copy of this book from Lone Star Book Blog Tours in exchange for my honest review.

STAHP with the gorgeous art. Wait, don't stop.

Thanks to Sybrina Durant and Lone Star Book Blog Tours for making this tour post possible. You know I love to support our authors.

First impressions matter most, right? I'm very, very visual, and I love great book covers and illustrations inside books. But this author's books are step, nope, several stories above the artwork I usually see.

I absolutely love the illustrations in her books - they are so vivid and so beautiful that it's like you're watching this book on the big screen at the movie theater. The colors and details are amazing. There's no way they won't catch your attention and make you want to find out more.

But on top of that, this author's books teach something important. This one is great for early science learning - a wonderfully whimsical introduction to the periodic table of elements. Chemistry just got way more fun. And I love that each element is presented by a lovely unicorn, sharing the element that makes up its very horn. The book is laid out in an easy-to-read or skim way, letting early readers focus on the basics but also having a lot of information for those who want to learn everything!

This is a book you'll want in print - don't bother with the ebook. It really leaves a lot of the experience out. I have ebook regrets, can you tell? This is something that can be displayed on your desk (or a kid's desk), even a great coffee table book for curious guests to have a bit of learning and whimsy.

Given that this is quite advanced for my 8-year-old, I only read a few pages with him. Just enough to give him the gist so he could give me his thoughts. He said while he doesn't really like unicorns that much (boys) he loved the horns and each one being a special metal element. He thought it was a very cool and clever idea. He also loved how each page looked different and unique with the borders showing the element. He overall said he'd give this book a 9.5/10 so I'd say he thinks it's quite well done :)

When I discovered this book was unicorns combined with the periodic table of elements, I was pretty convinced the author had jumped directly into my kiddo's brain to find out what made her tick. Chemistry? Magical creatures?!? Let me tell you, she has not put the book down since it arrived.

✨ MINI REVIEW ✨
This book is so informative! Every single page is chock full of cool illustrations, facts about each element, and real life examples of how the element is used. The info is presented in such an accessible format; instead of a dry textbook with long paragraphs, this is visually appealing and encourages the reader to engage with the text. I also really appreciated all of the extras...a full color periodic table of elements, links to songs and printable downloads, and other resources for educators or parents. Because this book will definitely cause your kid to be more interested in chemistry and have lots more questions that if you're anything like me, you can't answer off the top of your head!

An approachable & fun way to share chemistry with kids! From the illustrations to all the factual tidbits on the page it felt easily laid out and very eye appealing. Some of the known to unknowns can spark intrigue in a variety of ages. I even learned a thing or two! This book is perfect for our shelves with little learners and curious minds I’m excited to utilize it when chemistry enters our homeschooling days! Or even just to peruse and create activities for the girls!

This amazing book is extra special because it's the one hundredth book I've read this year. Where was this book all my life? Chemistry can be daunting to a lot of people learning it. Magical elements of the periodic table use fun illustrations, amazing examples, and unique activities to teach kids ages 9 through 18.

For tweens and teens who, like many, learn with visual and hands-on lessons, this is the perfect book. I absolutely love that the author created an original song full of magic and, of course, a lesson or two. The book was easy to follow, and I'll cherish it because I've always loved chemistry, and it was refreshing to remember what we learned in school.

This bright colorful book is fantabulous that deals with one of my favorite subjects – chemistry.

Teaching kids chemistry is challenging. Making that teaching engaging to that kids will not get lost or not care is even more of a challenge. In Sybrina Durant’s book, The Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented Alphabetically by The Metal Horn Unicorns she presents the vast periodic table with a parred down theme of No Metal. No Magic. And No Technology.

Her presentation of this connection to chemistry metals is perfect. With each of the elements she shares, she gives readers the metal element, atomic structure, simple facts, and did you know summaries. Tied to these to help make the connection better are theis the magical metal unicorns with really cool names like Questa, Wolfie, Jody, and Erbie to name a few. She incorporates the magical abilities of these unicorns by showing how the element gives them magical power.

Each page is a snippet of the importance of that element that without it there would be no technology or no magic. Of course, I imagine seeing each of these unicorns coming to life in stuffed animals allowing the kids to take home one for a week to discover that element in their surroundings and empowering them to understand that without that element they do not have a superpower.

Durant has done a fab job of writing an engaging chemistry book that even I wish I had read long ago. A periodic table is presented and explained in a manner that is understandable. I only wish the periodic table were a tad larger or more spaced out to help make those connections to our everyday life. I love how she follows up with Teachers Paying Teachers activity sets to complement this book. Science and conservation teachers need this book use it to teach chemistry.

Plus, you learn a whole lot of cool facts like dysprosium is used in some data storage devices, fluorine is used as a water repellant, and electric guitar strings are made from nickel.

Chemistry as a science helps us understand how things are made. The Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented Alphabetically by The Metal Horn Unicorns is a fantabulous foundation to help get kids interested and excited about chemistry at its basic levels by taking on the world of chemistry one unicorn at a time.

For anyone who would like a book to help a young student learn some basic scientific facts, this charming book would definitely be perfect for a home library, or a school classroom.

It took me a minute to figure out exactly what the phrases “no metal” “no magic” and “no technology” actually refers to in the book description. Since unicorns are often a big part of fantasy stories I thought the “no technology” was appropriate. There usually isn’t technology in fantasy stories, so I thought that’s what it meant, but the other two phrases puzzled me. Then I read several pages of the book and the proverbial lightbulb went off.

Maybe a young person will have a much faster lightbulb. 🙂

Connecting the different elements of metals to the Unicorns that then activates their magical powers was a fun part of the book, and I’d really like Pearl, the Potassium-Horned Unicorn, to come to my house. Her magic? Anything she touches is instantly cleaned.

Without the metals the Unicorns wouldn’t have their unique magic, and of course, where would we be without the metals that are such an important part of the technology we all rely on.

What a clever way of presenting that scientific truth with the use of a touch of fantasy.

Krypto, the Krypton-Horned Unicorn introduces the reader to Krypton, and of course, my imagination went straight to Superman and what Kryptonite does to his powers. It was a relief to read that the unicorn has no such sensitivity, and his magical ability is left unscathed. He can go invisible at will, but he’d better stay away from Superman. 🙂

Can you tell I had a lot of fun reading this book?

Filled with charming illustrations and really interesting facts about the different elements, this is a book that even people without a scientific bent will find enjoyable. The material is well-organized, with a lot of eye appeal, and young readers will appreciate the similarity to the way a graphic novel is designed.

However, the book isn’t just for children. Adults will surely appreciate a refresher course in metallurgy, even if they never studied it in school.

“A teaspoon of sugar helps the medicine go down,” and a touch of whimsy helps the learning.

A fun and clever techno-magical interpretation of elements of the Periodic Table.

The latest book in author Sybrina Durant’s Metal Horn Unicorns series, Magical Elements of The Periodic Table, focuses on introducing budding young scientists to the mysteries of the renowned Periodic Table by pairing an alphabetical assortment of 26 elements with the magical unicorn of the Metal Horn Tribe that carries a horn made of the specific element. This unique approach, with its whimsical illustrations and treasure trove of interesting facts about each featured element, is sure to attract the attention and engage the imagination of tweens and middle-graders who may have not yet been exposed to the subject in such an easy-to-read and understand format. With its up-to-date facts, even adults will discover something they didn’t know.

Each page features information about a single element on the Periodic Table, selected to represent a letter of the alphabet. The facts about each element are detailed and interesting. Additional elements occasionally make a cameo appearance at the top of a page, where the name of the highlighted unicorn is spelled out using the elements’ letter symbols.

The illustrations are hands-down amazing! Intricate details can be found on every page. Be sure to look at the frames that border each page and the smaller ones that highlight each unicorn’s special information. The artist has taken special care to personalize the artwork to match what is presented on the page. My favorites include the bordering frame for nickel and smaller frames surrounding Fleure and Vana, but all are great! Also, check out the subtle difference in Unicorn Wolfie’s appearance! (Look at his muzzle.)

With its colorful illustrations and fascinating supporting facts, I recommend MAGICAL ELEMENTS OF THE PERIODIC TABLE to upper-elementary and middle-grade readers interested in the sciences.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving an Advanced Review Copy from the author through Lone Star Book Blog Tours.

Are your kids ready for the magic of science?

The Metal Horn Unicorn Tribe and their techno-magical unicorn friends from Unimaise are the perfect group to familiarize them with metals and other elements in the Periodic Table. Their theme is No Metal, No Magic...and No Technology.

Alumna starts out this elemental alphabet book by introducing the very necessary metal, Aluminum, on her element page. Dr. Zinko rounds out the alphabet by presenting facts and other fun information about the metal, Zinc, on his.

This is such a cute book for little lovers of science! I would have loved to have something like this when I was learning about science, as I think it would have really helped me memorize the table of elements and get more excited about them! The unicorns are all colorful and unique and have names that help you remember which element they are representing. The facts included on each page are also fun. Overall, this book is perfect for any age and anyone who wants to learn or perfect their knowledge of science!

Have you ever wished someone had bridged the magic of unicorns with science when you were a child? Having grown up watching the original My Little Pony, I would have done much better in class if the creators had merged science into the mixture. This is the quirky brilliance behind Sybrina Durant's Magical Elements of the Periodic Table. Durant is on a mission to simplify the periodic table and makes it accessible for kids in a unique and creative way. By giving each unicorn's horn a different metal base, she gives us a mascot or "face" to each name. As a visual learner, this would have helped me so much when I took Chemistry. Each page features a different unicorn and metal, with plenty of fun facts scattered throughout.

As much as I enjoyed the concept, I felt like there was almost too much information cluttered on every page. This is much more an encyclopedia, or a science class workbook, not necessarily something I'd read to my kid before bed. When I tried reading to my seven-year-old boy, who is a big reader, he lost interest fairly quickly. Something that might help engage younger readers would be to half the amount of information and to allow more negative space on every page. Each spread contains so much, I think it could even be useful to create a picture book for each unicorn, describing their element(s) and fun facts. This wouldn't just make the information easier for smaller kids to digest but also make for a super fun and informative series. The encyclopedia could then be used as a reference for every unicorn and element from the series.

All this being said, I enjoyed Sybrina Durant's vision behind Magical Elements of the Periodic Table. This would be the perfect gift for any middle-grade student (or grown-up) still in love with unicorns who needs a crash course in the magic found within science.

This is such a fascinating book. It may be geared toward younger readers, but this older reader loved it and learned a lot about the different elements that make up the periodic table. So many interesting facts about the different elements and how they combine to create other metals and alloys. I would have loved a book like this when I was younger and learning chemistry. I think it would have stuck with me a little bit more.

I love the illustrations in this book too. By creating unicorns to represent the various elements, it will appeal to the younger reader and make it fun to read. I bet my 8-year-old niece would love this book just for all the facts she can learn and incorporate into her education. She has a curious mind.

I also shared this book with my sister, who teaches second grade, while she was visiting me. I think she might have learned just as much as I did by reading through the elements and found it to be quite fascinating. She thought it would be helpful to a student that needs a bit more creativity to learn different things. We both agreed that this book was well researched.

At the end of the book, there is a periodic table that this color coded to remind us what each element is and how it comes into play. This would be a great book for a classroom. I bet some of my teacher siblings could use this in their classroom. Plus, the author has many additional resources to help share the whimsy and education of the elements.

There are several unicorns that might have been my favorites. I liked Cornum, the brass-horned unicorn, because of my love for music and my band days when I played several brass instruments. I also liked Dr. Zinko's Zinc-horn for its healing magic. And Vana, the Vanadum-horned unicorn and the ability to shield others from extreme temperatures. I'm not sure what is considered extreme, but it is getting hot here, and I would love to be shielded from that.

This is a book that could be read over and over because we all know that we miss things the first few times or don't remember them.

Highly recommended for everyone, and give it 5 paws up.

Just like the cover, Magical Elements of the Periodic Table, will give you a top to bottom page of art and education. In its alphabetical array, Sybrina Durant, presents a unique way to learn the elements and their many uses. Some that even a parent reading to their child can learn!

I love the design elements placed in this book! Pun absolutely intended. As an artist; the level of detail, color use, and creativity is amazing. The friendly characters and placement did a great job of informing without overwhelming the page. It speaks to the good communication involved. Having pictured examples of the uses for each element was a great touch and widens the use for younger ages as well!

I feel I’m using a lot of exclamations in this review, but I want readers to know how impressed I am with this book. In an educational format, elements of the periodic table and their structure can overwhelm or seem dry to a young student. However, the writing and design of this book is cleverly presented in a fantastical way. Their accompanied unicorns have special abilities that hint to the many uses of each element. My favorite being Pearl, the Potassium-Horned Unicorn, that cleans everything she touches. I had no idea Potassium was used in soaps and detergents as well!

I remember learning about elements in school and I wish I’d had something as fun as this book! I have no doubt many children will easily follow and learn something from this. It certainly can be used in lesson plans and as a creative way to begin learning about their more in depth atomic structure and history. By the end, Durant includes more about alloys and compounds as well.

Did I mention a fun song to match? Watch the book trailer to hear it!

Review:
Like I told you earlier chemistry is not my type😂specially the periodic table chapters. I always tried to memories that periodic table and then forgot 👏.
But after reading this amazing book I though this book should have come earlier in my life so that I didn't face those difficulties to memorise periodic table🤣
🧪 In this book author defined each element of the table with its symbol and atomic properties with usage in daily life. The elements and isotopes are described by by cute dragons whose tails are tipped with their elements..These tails, when tipped, exhibit magical powers associated with the properties of elements. Like euell has europium tipped tail which basically represent Europium which has the ability to turn any paper into money💵(cool right). By the way this is one of my favourite metal because it has ability to change a small useless paper into something expensive 😉.
💎This book actually tells us that how important these metals are in our life because without these metals its like "No metal.. No magic >>>no technology"
🌟I highly recommend you all to read if you find chemistry or periodic tables boring or you want to know about metals. Trust me you are not going to bore and read it in one sitting. Specially if your siblings or children find it difficult to memorise periodic table give them this book as gift and then you will look at the magic of this book.
💦Thank you to @mbooktour for reading me this amazing book. I feel like this book should have come into my life earlier😂

Magical Elements of the Periodic Table is an engaging and eye-opening book aimed at introducing children to the wonders of the periodic table in a way that captures their attention.

This book is filled with individual pages dedicated to an element of the periodic table. The end result is quite like collectable cards which children, like my own, absolutely adore.
Each page is packed with interesting details, facts and images to help younger readers grasp the concepts of how the element relates to the world around them.

After reading through this book I showed it to my eight year old (m) son. He was fascinated and reread the book at least twice before lunch. This has spurred on many interesting discussions and lines of research.
His younger sister (almost five) adored the unicorns and the concept of collecting each element. She listened while her brother read out the facts. Her favourite was gold as she knew that one!

I appreciate the ability to read this book. It is a wealth of knowledge and has already aided in our homeschooling endeavours. This book would be the perfect gift to any young child, science enthusiast or not. It would also be perfect for classrooms in both schools and the home.

A wonderful book which I will be purchasing along with the resources found at 'Teachers pay teachers'. The song is a wonderful addition and the back of this book is absolutely packed with in-depth information to help support the learning that the magical unicorns supplied.

I was gifted a digital copy of 'Magical Elements of the Periodic Table' in exchange for a fair and honest review. Thank you NetGalley and Sybrina Publishing for the opportunity.

Do you have a kid who’s interested in all things science? Then you will absolutely want a copy of Magical Elements of the Periodic Table! This charming book by Sybrina Durant is bright, colorful, educational, and so much fun to read. It’s an alphabet book that takes you on a journey through some of the magical elements of the periodic table, guided by the Metal Horn Unicorns.

Each letter represents a different element and is identified with a different unicorn. Information regarding the element itself, as well as its history and uses, is presented in clear, easy-to-understand language. The unicorn illustrations are adorable. It’s learning at its best – engaging, accessible, and fun!

I read the Kindle version of the book, and so I have not availed myself of all the extras that are available. You can get a unicorn-themed periodic table, trading cards representing each of the 26 unicorns and their elements, fun lesson cards, and more as printable downloads. I think this would be a great summer activity to keep young minds active and entertained.

When my younger son was in elementary school, he was fascinated with all things science. This book would have been right up his alley. After reading it myself, I highly recommend this for any child who has an interest in science and enjoys an appealing, well-written book. And it’s not just fun for kids – I learned some things, too!

Five sparkly unicorn horns up for a winner of a book!

For many pre-teens and beyond, science can present seemingly impossible hurdles. The Metal Horn Unicorns opens up a world of magical learning from A to Z. Ms. Sybrina Durant creates an exciting and colorful way to get introduced to the periodic table. Unicorns are legendary creatures spoken of throughout the ages, persisting in storytelling to young and old. Each unicorn in the book has distinctive magical elements from the periodic table that gives them specific traits and powers.

The unicorn tribe member names span the alphabet, and each design is colorful and unique, making memorization easy and fun. There are downloadable trading cards to help with the lessons and understanding of the metal element powers they each possess. The song is fun and gets the learning going.

Each unicorn has an endearing tale to add to the fun as readers learn details about metals and their properties. Learning was never this exciting when I studied the subject. I discovered some great tips along the magical journey.

Ms. Sybrina Durant has a knack for making a must-do activity enjoyable and engaging for young people. Highly recommended as a summer read for children and even for some of those sleepovers when the trading cards can keep education fun, exciting, and enchanting.

Does anyone else have any kiddos that are “fact finders”? My seven-year-old definitely falls under that category. She LOVES to dive deeper into anything that is interesting to her so when I had the chance to get my hands on Magical Elements of the Periodic Table I knew she was going to absolutely devour it and I was NOT wrong. My little fact finder begged me on the daily to pick up this little gem.

What an absolutely adorable way to dive into the periodic table. For my little unicorn loving learner, this was a match made in heaven. Durant dives into 26 different elements in such a unique way that I found myself drawn in and wanting to know more. I love how it jumped into this subject in a way that a beginner or an expert could both learn something. It has been well loved in our house and has led to deeper discussion which is always a plus in my book.

If you're a mama like me who loves to find fun ways to learn together, I highly recommend you add this one to your pile. PLUS, you can also find fun activities sheets that Durant created to go along with this book. This is just the kind of thing I love to have prepared with summer break upon us.

As a high school Chemistry teacher, I found this book charming and may well use it next year in my classes. The elements are well laid out, with the one-pagers for each of the alphabetical elements/compounds aesthetically pleasing to the eye. However, I do think that for some of the elements, it is a bit forced but, admittedly, it is challenging to come up with things for V, X and Z. I think what is most useful are the things at the end: the illustrated two page periodic table that is color coded, the Structure of Elements, Alloys, Compounds and Definitions. I think that students, even high school students, would get something out of those pages, especially reluctant readers. The alphabetical list of elements is the least useful part. It will capture the attention of younger folk who are likely not to be taking chemistry and reluctant readers in high school. But if they just look at that without the rest of it, there are still terms that would be hard to understand. I can give this 3 points for this and would definitely look at other things written by this author. Thanks to NetGalley and to the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of this text.
