"Yeah, well, Bones and I had a couple months of relative quiet. Guess it's time to liven things up again."

This was a very good ending. If I'm being completely honest the last book of the Night Huntress series was a bit lacking, a very themed book that seemed like it needed to be more of a novella than anything else. But Up From the Grave delivers and manages to clean up whatever sour taste One Grave at a Time left behind. Full of shocking developments, and the humorous dialogue we have come to expect and love, Up from the Grave is the ending The Night Huntress series deserved.

Cat and Bones are still the steamiest couple in the block. In this novel you pretty much got to see every important character in the series again, every single one made an appearance. Except for the definitely dead ones that is. It was nice that Jeaniene gave us some closure in that aspect, the book definitely felt like it was saying goodbye.

Cat and Bones main predicament in this title is that four of their closest friends have gone missing, and everything seems to be pointing to the new bloke who took over Don's old job. Soon enough though, as usual, Cat and Bones will uncover something even more sinister that will turn their lives upside down.

Some aspects of the plot were more predictable than others but it all was still very enjoyable. Let's just say that the things you wont expect will leave you with your jaw on the floor and begging for a sequel. Considering the way Jeaniene leaves the ending, somewhat open ended, I wouldn't be surprised if we get to visit Cat and Bones lives again, only not from their POV but through another family member.

I do have to say this, IAN needs his own NOVEL. He deserves it after all the shit he goes through in this book. I want to read an Ian Novel!!

Letdowns: Not a lot of sexy scenes... I guess it would be hard to surpassed such famous scenes like Chapter 32 of One Foot in the Grave. They got mild, where is Bone's famous sexy streak? Nevertheless what we do get is nice, just not as steamy as previous novels.

The Night Huntress series is one I will re visit many times again in the near future. It is enticing, funny, engaging, entertaining... it is everything you might want. I am glad the last title managed to bring back some of the spark while concluding the series in the finest way. I will miss Cat and Bones, but as Cat says at the end:

"Everyone... we'll see you again, some soon, some later, but as vampires say, until again."

That ending was definitely for the reader. Until again my friends, until again.

“You must be taking a piss on me.” “Am I expected to know what that means?” Madigan asked coolly. Bones leaned forward, all traces of laughter gone. “Allow me to be clearer: If you think you’re forcing my wife to work for you, you don’t know who you’re fucking with.”-Bones and Madigan

 photo 10341351_zps713udots.gif

“Ian,” I managed. A chuckle vibrated against my lips. “Don’t fancy him joining us, sorry.” I shoved against his chest, but it didn’t move him. “He’ll hear us,” I got out before Bones’s mouth stole away my voice. Then his hand stole my reason when it slid between my legs, stroking flesh that swelled and slicked beneath his touch. Another chuckle, this one distinctly wicked. “Yes, so don’t be stingy with the compliments.”-Cat and Bones

*Spoilers*

OMG NOOOOOOO it can't end. I love them too much. What will I do with my life now? I think I am hyperventilating......... God I can't believe this is the last book in the Night Huntress Series. But wow what a Fan-fucking-tastic end to an epic series!!!!! This series gave me such joy. It gave me tons of entertainment, made me laugh, smile, cry, flip the fuck out and fall madly in love with a ton of amazing characters that will live in my heart forever.

“We were never properly introduced,” I said in a vicious purr. “I’m the Red Reaper, and you’re dead.”-Cat

 photo 15240254_zpskx3hququ.gif

“Why do you bother, Crispin? You married a fighter, so stop trying to convince her that the sidelines suit her better.” “The day you love anyone but yourself is the day I’ll take your marital advice, Ian,” Bones bit back in an icy tone. “Then today is that day,” Ian replied sharply, “for I love you, you wretched, pig-headed guttersnipe. I also love that arrogant, overprivileged dandy smirking at us”—a wave indicted Spade, whose aforementioned smirk vanished—“as well as the emotionally fractured, malfunctioning psychic who sired me. And you, Crispin, love a bloodthirsty hellion who’s probably killed more people in her thirty years than I have in over two centuries of living, so again I say, don’t bother trying to convince her that she isn’t who she is.”-Ian and Bones

Of course this series goes out with a bang. Up From The Grave, was a kick-ass, emotional story. In the final installment of the Night Huntress Series, Bones and Cat are trying to find out what happened to their friends and ex team members, Tate, Juan, Dave, and Cooper, who have disappeared. They know the new boss that heads up Cat's old dept with homeland security, Madigan, is behind it. When Bones and Cat go to save their friends, they find out secrets that will tear their hearts out and may start a war between vampires and ghouls. Can Cat and Bones save their family, and friends? Can they stop the war?

“My true skill is killing. I’ve excelled at it since I was sixteen, when I took on my first vampire without knowing anything about them.” Then I went over to Bones, framing his face in my hands. “It was you who taught me to judge people by their actions instead of their species. You saved me from a life of misery, regret, and well-earned recriminations. Now it’s time to let me do my thing, Bones”—I smiled wryly—“and trust that you taught me to be the best damned killer I could be.”-Cat

 photo BeFunky Collage_zpsekwygkpz.jpg

“But you forgot who I am—a ruthless bastard who will do anything to keep you safe. So yes, I pretended one of the soldiers fired silver bullets in order that you, and everyone else, would believe I’d died. It was the only way to protect you when Madigan brought you back to the compound, and I had no doubt he’d capture you if you went to meet him. He’s waited too long not to come at you with everything he had, and if I’d told you of my plan beforehand, your reaction wouldn’t have been genuine, and Madigan would’ve smelled a trap.”-Bones

Bones in this book, one word, amazing. The man just gets better with every book. His unfailing love for Cat is a beautiful thing to read. Also it helps that he's the sexiest vampire ever! Just sayin'. He is so supportive of Cat. Always having her back and protecting her. I have said it before and I will say it again Bones is perfect! Cat is still awesome, lovable, kick-ass, sassy Cat, but she is a little more mature in this book. I love seeing her growth, but I love that she is still Cat. Cat is fiercely loyal, she has a good heart, and will die to protect those she loves. Cat and Bones have one of the best relationships I have ever read. We as readers get to see it start in book one and with each book grow into something unforgettable. I fell in love with their love, and they will alway be my all time favorite couple.

“I love you, Kitten.” How puny those words seemed compared to the feelings strafing mine, but his voice vibrated as he said them. Then he crouched beside me. “I would never hurt you that way save for one reason: to keep you safe. I can live with your anger, your retribution—bloody hell, despise me if you must, but don’t expect me to behave as though you aren’t the most important thing in my life. You are, and I will let no one, yourself included, bring you to harm.”-Bones

 photo BeFunky Collage11_zps7ull0bjz.jpg

“Since I have this power,” Bones continued, “you can trust that we won’t hurt you for the simple reason that if we wanted you dead, you already would be.” “Bones!” I snapped. “Way to win stepfather of the year,” Tate muttered.-Bones, Cat and Tate

The plot of this book shocked me. When I thought Bones died I was freaking out. Tears welling up. And the heartbreak Cat felt, I felt. I enjoyed the hell out of the ass kicking her and Bones passed around to Madigan's men. I think that Madigan got off way to easy. I would have liked to have seen a little torture maybe, and a way worse death. I know bloodthirsty right? When I found out that Cat has a daughter, I freaked, damn I so didn't see that coming. I loved Ian in this book. He also gets better with every book and I can't wait until his book comes out. I can't wait to hear his back story and the woman awesome enough to win his heart! This book was an awesome end to one of my favorite series, but it's not the end of the night huntress world. There will be more Vlad and Ian, and I hope we get to see Katie grown up. Really if you haven't check this series out already, don't take my word on how epic it is, read it and experience the awesomeness for yourself.

“Are you really my mother? The old man said she was dead.” I couldn’t help it; I glanced behind me. Immediately, I wished I hadn’t. The cautious hope in Katie’s gaze nearly brought me to my knees. I wanted to smother her with assurances that she’d never, ever be alone again, then I wanted to hug her until she forgot what it was like to feel afraid. The only urge stronger was my need to kill the filthy creature who threatened her. Since I had to do that before the other, it gave me the strength to turn around, facing my enemy instead of my daughter. “The old man lied. I am your mother, and I’m not leaving you again,” -Katie and Cat

“You would give up so much for another man’s child?” “Katie is my child,” Bones responded instantly. “She may not be my biological daughter, but that merely means she’ll have two fathers.”-Marie and Bones

The 7th and final book in the Cat & Bones installment of the incredible Night Huntress Series. ….

No more Cat & Bones adventures!!! Oh no!!! I am so enchanted with these two characters. They have grown on me so much and have become one of my favorite couples…

I loved watching the development of their relationship. ..The deep and emotional connection……..

A lot is revealed…and I mean a lot…who what Madigan is and has been doing……and wow…………a new revelation about Cat!!!! Totally unexpected and totally amazing!!!!

I loved seeing all my favorites again…even if some were just brief appearance…..

I absolutely adored Ian in this book. He makes quite a big appearance in this story and
 photo spade___night_huntress_series_by_lovxxe-d41kx3g_zps6xpagbaf.jpg

He’s such a funny and likeable character….
“The day you love anyone but yourself is the day I’ll take your marital advice, Ian,” Bones bit back in an icy tone.
“Then today is that day,” Ian replied sharply, “for I love you, you wretched, pig-headed guttersnipe. PLEASE CAN HE HAVE HIS OWN BOOK??
Loved the short visit Cat & Bones make to Vlad & Leila….and what an occasion it turned out to be…super and fabulous….
“Before we left them, I slanted a glance at Leila, and mischievously said, "No one thought what you just did could be done, you know. You'll earn the nickname of The Dragon Slayer."
Vlad glowered at me, but Bones laughed.”

And Mencheres….wow, who knew he could be so COOL!!!!
 photo hqdefault_zps8rbjxxlb.jpg

“Far from being offended, Mencheres went over and flawlessly executed a street-style handshake complete with finger slaps, fist bumps, and a high-low finale.”

Denise & Spade, Marie, Fabian, Tate and his mates are along on this thrilling ride helping Cat & Bones on their quest to finding someone that is very important to Cat, Bones and perhaps even Tate.

This was a fantastic series with such well thought-out plots, filled with emotion, humor, friendship, loyalty and unforgettable characters.
A splendid, awesome, spectacular conclusion.

I am sure we will see Cat & Bones making appearances in future stories…..there are so many characters that perhaps will have their own books.
I keep hoping!!!!!!

5 Cat & Bones Stars

A bittersweet finale for one of the best paranormal romance/urban fantasy series ever... Cat and Bones end their story as they started it.... with a huge BANG!

Sexy, humorous, jaw-dropping, adventurous and heartbreaking, this book has it all. Add a few unexpected (or expected) twists, some special guest stars and our favorite vampire line, gathered and ready to make a stand and fight. I can't say anything else about it without spoiling the series, except that you got to READ IT!

I lost a friend as this series ended, but I earned an experience and 7 books that I'll forever cherish.
Cat and Bones are up there in my top 3 favourite couples, fighting for the lead with Nalini Singh's Raphael and Elena.

Thank you for 7 amazing years Jeaniene Frost!

What a disappointing end to an otherwise good series.

-Beyond here be spoilers -

This book, essentially, pulled a 'Breaking Dawn'. It was a self-indulging romp where everyone gets everything and no-one suffers. Despite the harrowing and difficult situation they find themselves in, everything ends with smiles and rainbows and fond goodbye-for-nows. Clearly, Frost lacked the heart to end the series without perfection for her characters. As Stephen King said “even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler’s heart, kill your darlings.” I would have liked to see some of that.

Now, while having a perfect ending for all is not terrible in and of itself, the fact that Frost took it a step further and practically rewrote the plotline to Breaking Dawn was enough for me.

Here is the breakdown. Girl gets with vampire knowing she cannot have children because he has a vampire mate. Author mystically finds a crappy loophole to give lead female character a child. Without any desire towards motherhood beforehand (note: Chuck E. Cheese), lead female character immediately falls in love with daughter who ends up being a weird hybrid of species and people want to destroy said child. Mother swears to protect child no matter what. Protects child with held of everyone else. The end.

Both 'Up From the Grave' and 'Breaking Dawn' follow the same stupid plot line. The only thing Frost did better in this sense it give the kid a reasonable name.

I have difficulty fathoming why Frost decided that Cat needed a child. What was the point? My jaded nature makes me think this has something to do with the fact that a woman could NEVER be completely happy without a child. Since the apparent theme of this book was to gratify everyone, I can't see why else the kid would have been written into the book.

Even before the demon revealed the mother of Katie as Cat, I knew the book was headed in this direction. The second it was revealed the little redhead child in the holding cell was a hybrid I saw the rest of the book panning out as it did. Duh, Cat was the mother. Clearly everything else wouldn't work. You needed to use the genetic material of someone who is already a hybrid. Of course Cat would go to any length to save this kid from impending doom! Of course Bones will go along for the ride and save the day. Of course the gang will all come through with saving everyone. The only question after that minor detailing of how Frost was going to take us through it...

Frost is not even above duplicating core plots of her own in the same book! The biggest contention between Bones and Cat in this story was that Bones one-upped Cat when organising how to get Madigan. He lied by omission, making her believe he had died and entrusted other people (mainly Denise) to help him. Fine. Interesting subterfuge. But Cat literally gets into the same situation later in the book where Cat has a plan to save and rescue Katie that she believed she organised with her husband, Bones goes over her head and organises something far better with other people (namely Denise, but now also Mencheres). Another dupe! Why hadn't Cat seen this as a possibility? (Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me!) I would have thought there would be another giant fight along the same lines as the original fight in the story since THE SAME THING HAPPENED but no. Contented with child. No more being bad-ass or vocal about husbands being pricks.

I don't even know how the second plan got pulled off since Katie ran away and Denise was brought back to the room pretending to be Katie. How did Gordon snag Katie when she would have clearly attempted to kill him and wouldn't have gone quietly? Wouldn't Tate have seen this and realised this was a big set up since he was chasing after her? Wouldn't the mega powerful Guardians who were clearly on their way have heard the commotion? In fact, the switcharoo seemed entirely contingent on Katie bolting for it, but this occurred when something in the plan went wrong (the demon coming and bringing the ghouls). Was the original plan to have Denise waltz into the room and have someone just walk Katie out of there, get her away safely and then bring the Guardians in? Would have been nice to know what the real plan was... Just sayin'.

Beyond my dismay for the second half of the plot line and its complete unoriginality, there were other points that made me irritated by the book.

Firstly, the intersection between Vlad's story in 'Twice Tempted' and this novel sucked. I have serious problems seeing how someone with 2 months to end a massive government conspiracy would pack up and fly to Romania for a wedding. I felt like the only reason for this was to include Vlad in the book but had no idea real idea of how to integrate him into it. "I know, I made Cat and Bones go to the wedding in Vald's book so I'll just shove them in there. Vlads new marriage will explain Vlad's utter lack of involvement in preventing a cataclysmic war, perrrrfectly." -_-

Speaking of adding characters into the book where it totally didn't need to, Frost threw nearly everyone she had at us. Even people who really weren't needed just showed up in the book for no reason (like Annette, Nathaniel and Justina). The flip side to this was the weird way in which Frost would bring people into the book for reasonable reasons, such as needing their skills, but after being used, they were never mentioned again (like Juan and Tyler – and these two were big on comic relief! Why not include them?). Also, Denise was a plot device like I've never seen one. My god, if something gets a bit hard to solve, PUT THE SHAPESHIFTER IN! EVERYTHING WORKS THEN! Literally the two biggest battles of this entire book were orchestrated by Denise running around confusing everyone.

Something that also irked me was the constant plot driven nature of the story. I wish the characters had had some time for thought and reflection. They never got to really think about how things were changing or what they felt about these things. Cat and parenthood could have been explored a bit more. Bones and parenthood was never even discussed. It was pretty much assumed that Bones was to deal with it and embrace it. I would have liked to hear his take on it all, rather than just hear him declare that he would be a father. I felt like Tate and fatherhood got a better showing than Bones did. By the end of the book, most characters had become secondary to the action, including Bones. Sacrificing fluff for action was also evident in the poor showing Frost made of the customary sex scene and the general heat between characters. The book lacked for the romance we have come to expect.

Overall, the novel was lacking, unoriginal and left me dissatisfied. I hope Vlad’s final book is better done than this.

If I were to rate this book based on my love for the characters or the fact that this was our good-bye, then I would have given it 5 stars. But that is not what rating a book is about.

I will always hold close to my heart Cat and Bones, the characters that with some help from Sookie and Eric got it all started a few years ago. My reading obsession.

But as much as it hurts me I find myself writing the review of the final Night Huntress novel and rating it 2 stars.
I could barely recognize the characters in this one. As if I had been reading something else entirely, the wrong book, the wrong series. There are at least some constants. Ian is the same and I can’t wait to read his own book one day, and the sex scenes (there was only one really) are just as steamy.
All this notwithstanding, I was disappointed. Disappointed in the way the author chose to wave good-bye to her characters, in the weak and anticlimactic plot, and the detached air of the entire book. It was like reading a newspaper. I don’t know what happened, but I know when it started. About 40% through the book, when I was supposed to be reading Up From the Grave, I thought I was in front of a TV watching Underworld: Awakening instead. If you have seen the movie that is all you have to know about this last installment. But I’d had no idea at the moment just how much so. It only went spiraling down from there.
I hate it when I’m reading a book and I think “Well, isn’t that convenient!” about some story arc. I caught myself thinking that a lot with this novel. Bones’s new powers and capabilities, Marie Laveau‘s involvement, Don…

I’m just glad that when the writer feels like they are getting tired of their characters and want to move on to new projects they do just that instead of stretching it out for all eternity. This finale just made me realize that Cat’s story should have ended a couple books back. But I’ll always have the previous books I loved so much, and the novellas. Oh, the novellas. Some of them are better than the main books!

I will miss you like hell Cat, Bones, Ian, Kira, Mencheres, Justina! Good thing I can always go back and enjoy the rest of the books all over again. Thank you for that, Jeaniene Frost.

"I love you, Kitten."

During the first half of the book, I truly believed that this was the best book of the series. There was a mystery about the disappearance of Tate, Juan, Dave, and Cooper, while ghostly Don do not want to help and talk about the past.
Madigan on the other hand is arrogant, hostile and generally unbearable and he insists that Cat's friends are dead.
The mystery gets more complicated when Don actually wishes that they are truly dead instead of being alive in Madigan's clutches.

Secret lab, many horrific experiments, secrets since Dan had discovered Cat is half vampire so many years ago, deaths and torturing of vampires and ghouls.

And Bones once more hides things from Cat in order to protect her...aargh

When the monstrous lab was blown up and the vampires were eating the humans, I was actually clapping with joy. And I was wishing that Madigan would get the most horrible death.

Unfortunately after the climax in the middle of the book, the action started to slow down.
Madigan's punishment did not satisfy me, while Don was not punished at all.
The little girl was an interesting twist, but the explanation was rushed and the character was not developed. I don't know if the author wants to have a book about her later.

The greatest villain was too ridiculous for someone who supposedly was acting behind the scenes and was pulling the strings for 15 years and was fooling everybody.

The solution at the end was too simple. I wanted something more than sailing into the sunset forgetting all the problems.

So, the second half of the book was disappointing. And definitely the series should not end like that.

I still will give 4 stars for the first half, for the uniqueness of the characters and for the over the top love of Bones for Cat and Cat for Bones.

Years ago, Bones had made me promise to go on if he were killed. I’d done so, yet now, I was going back on that promise. Death was my only chance to be reunited with him. I wasn’t missing that for anything.
“Wait for me,” I whispered, my voice breaking on another sob. “I’ll be there soon.”

I bought this book when it first came out but I couldn't bring myself to read it right away knowing it was the last installment. I don't know what I was afraid of. Perhaps I just didn't want it to end.

I think it's very difficult to review the final book of any series honestly because there's a level of bias right away which comes from the notion that no matter how hard an author tries to end a series perfectly, it'll never be.

With that said; Holy Crow!!!!!

SPOLIER************* psych! No spoilers here!

Up From the Grave ties up most lose ends and also nicely makes the reader feel satisfied to a certain extent that things ended as they should. The story is fast-paced, thrilling , emotional, absolutely freaking heart-breakingly devastating in one part (which isn't exactly as it appears) and satisfying.

It is a good ending to an awesome series and I have a feeling Frost won't completely forget about some of her supporting characters for future series as one in particular is someone we all love to hate and has really shown a lot of growth. As for Bones and Cat, it's definitely goodbye. They have sailed into the sunset and even if Frost brings back any characters for their own series, we'll never hear from our couple again the way she ended it.

The final Cat & Bones book – I’m sad this is the end because I do love these characters, but to be honest the past couple books have only been okay for me. I still remember starting this series and thinking how incredible the world and these characters are. I’m not going to go into a lot of detail with this book but I do have a few thoughts. This book starts off a little slow – the first couple chapters dragged for me. But then good things start to happen. There is a ton of action and violence. Bones and Cat kick some big booty.

The author brings in all of the supporting characters – Mencheres, Spade, Vlad, Ian. Can we just have Ian’s book already because that man gives me a lady boner every time he is on the page. He has a great scene in this book that is so…Ian. I think Mencheres made me laugh the hardest with this scene:

When we followed him to the room he’d converted into a tech lover’s paradise, however, the black-haired boy beaming at his computer was human. And he looked about seventeen years old.

“I am the shee-it,” the adolescent said in a singsong voice. Then he swung around, smirking at the nearly five-thousand-year-old Egyptian vampire.

“Who’s your daddy, M?”

Far from being offended, Mencheres went over and flawlessy executed a street-style handshake complete with finger slaps, fist bumps, and a high-low finale.

“You are the shit,” he solemnly agreed.

There were many scenes that made me smile. We also get a pretty good sex scene with Bones and Cat – as always I’m greedy for more.

So why am I giving this book a C+? There is an event that happens late in this book. A twist of sorts. You’ll know what I’m referring to when you read it and honestly it felt forced and rushed. I didn’t need it in the story to be satisfied. It actually had the opposite effect on me. I didn’t like it, it didn’t feel like it fit. Maybe if it had happened last book or at the beginning of the book I’d have been more at peace with it. It’s been about a week since I’ve read this book and it still upsets me. Not only do I feel like it was just slapped in at the end of the story but the way it comes about doesn’t sit well with me either.

Also, while we get a romance scene – I really wanted something particularly romantic between these two since it’s the last book. I’m not saying a massive sex scene (although I wouldn’t complain about that) but I wanted some good quality times with just the two of them. I loved the action in this book but I wanted more intimacy.

Overall this is a series I’ll always recommend. The first couple of these books had such an impact on my reading life – I will always look upon them fondly. And to the fans of this series – we will always have chapter 32 – bless you chapter 32.

Rating: C+

For all of us who suffered through the Sookie Stackhouse ending debacle, can I just say: Bravo, Ms. Frost!! For ending this series on a high note.

We all know that she could have milked the love that people have for Cat and Bones until we couldn't stand the sight of them, but she didn't.

Now.... please write a book starring Ian and I will become you're fan-girl.

Up From The Grave is the final book in Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. I've been a big fan of Cat and Bones and was eagerly awaiting this final installment and, wow, what a disappointment. It's totally predictable, flat, with an ending I really hated.

From the earliest pages, it's pretty obvious where the plot is headed so when Frost reveals the "shocking" twist at the 2/3 mark, it isn't shocking at all. Along the way, you'll recognize pretty much every plot device from earlier in the series, some having been used over and over. (When you get to those parts, you'll know exactly what I'm referring to.) So the big scenes meant to make the reader gasp and weep over the horror, don't resonate and aren't in the least bit sad since it's fairly obvious how it will all get fixed.

On the positive side, some of the battle scenes were fun and appropriately gory. Ian is again the star of the show, with some of the best lines. Cat and Bones are totally devoted to one another, and I like that. Bones continues to be scorching hot, but Cat is not her usual sparkly, snarky self. She continues to go off and do whatever the heck she thinks is right. It doesn't seem that she has matured in the least over the course of the series though, instead of her behavior causing a rift between her and Bones, now they talk and quickly move past it.

As for the "shocking" twist, even though I knew it was coming, I absolutely hated it. Frost could possibly have rescued the ridiculous scenario she sets up, but instead glosses over the entire situation with no dialogue whatsoever between Cat and Bones, and no meaningful discussion between Cat and . Then, Frost is rushing us through to the end and one of the silliest epilogues ever. Awful.

Overall, this book feels slapped together because Frost had to end the series. It seems she lost interest in writing about Cat and Bones quite awhile ago. Without a doubt, the weakest book of the series and my least favorite.

After reading this, I decided to give one more star to both Vlad's books. This was interesting and finally found out the big secret (Manningham's). Well, what a surprise.

This might be a bit spoilerish
I got feeling that the big threat in this book () was a bit repeating. .
It was a bit annoying that they were running from one side to another. Plus I know that you can say he cannot really control it but... it was sooo obvious.

I loved Ian soo much in this book! Well, I love him always but in this one? Awesome! .

The ending

Plus, Cat started to be really annoying in last books especially in this one.

And my personal opinion? :

3.5-4 ★'s

Well, this is it. The last book in the Night Huntress series and it was sad to read the end of Cat and Bones. I'm sure we will hear more about them in the spin off books but this is the last of their story.

I'm not sure what I expected but it wasn't what we got. I knew there would be drama and certainly the prologue sets us up, but I wasn't prepared for what happened.

The first part of the book was good...lots of action, a little steam, and lots of appearances by all our favorites. But I knew, I KNEW, as soon as Cat got into the facility that things took a turn...and not for the better!

description

I just can't believe a series famous for its sexy scenes and kickass characters could turn into...TWILIGHT! That's right, I said it! WTH happened? I'm still shaking my head. If you've read it, think about it for a moment...switch Cat for Bella, Bones for Edward and ya know, some other changes and it's all Twilight. I kid you not.

That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it...because I did. I loved all the characters being such an important part of the story, heck, we even got a bit of Annette! But I love, LOVE Spades and Ian. ~sigh~ Please JF write an Ian book...YOU MUST!! But the star of the show was Denise...she rocked!

A big complaint was what happened to the sexy scenes?? We did get a taste but then it was mostly fade to black. That was hard to take but we did get a lot of Bones being his badass Alpha self and ALWAYS taking care of Cat whether she likes it or not. Not sure I could forgive him for what he did as easily as she did though.

And what was up with Richard Trover? As soon as his name came up, all I could think of was Karl Rove! Anyone else? As if he wasn't creepy enough!

The epilogue was nice but we don't get too much into the future and I think I'm kind of okay with that. It's nice to just your imagination sometimes.

I will miss Bones!!

Thank. God. It's. Finished.

This series should have ended three books back when all the romantic/sexual tension seeped out of Cat & Bones' relationship. I love them, but there's a time for every series to end and this one had gone past it. Oh well. I'll still look out for Frost's future work.

I hate that people have rated this book when it hasn't even been finished. YOU TIME TRAVELERS RUIN EVERYTHING.

01/30/14: I got my copy! *dances* But first, I need to reread the previous six books. I'm not at all ready for this series to be over, but I'll accept it with poise and grace... and crying in the corner while tearing out swaths of hair.

4.25 The End Stars

We all remember how Cat's and Bones' tale started. Cat, blinded by her mother's hatred for vampires, out to kill every single one of them, with little knowledge of them and no idea at all that vampires can be anything more than gold blooded killers. Bones there to teach her how to be an effective huntress and to shed light on her many prejudices and misconceptions. A great love story born from hatred and mistaken theories.

We all remember the possessiveness and the borderline insane love for each other. All the crazy jealous fits and way too bold statements.

We also all remember the cheesy moments when love was overflowing and honey wouldn't have been so sticky sweet compared to these two. The moments when we thought, "Oh, get over it already. Go back to being Badasses and killing people and stop with this lovefest." But that we guiltily also found pleasure in because Bones' love for Cat is one of the most consistent in Urban Fantasy lit. From Book 1 to Book 7 there wasn't a moment that I doubted that Bones loved her.

We also all remember how awkward Cat could make a situation when she opened her mouth. How many hilarious "I didn't just say that out loud"s she had. How many times she should have thought a little first before blurting something that usually embarassed her and entertained every one else.

So we got to see a great love story developing in a series full of action and badass moments. All the books weren't great, some were borderline boring, but I still came back for more and I loved the ride. I loved to see how the characters grew with time, came to accept themselves and the others, overcame obstacles and became better. So I love this series and I'm glad it ended while I still loved it.

The spoiler is my opinion on this book in particular but it containes many spoilers on the book so I wouldn't advise reading it if you haven't yet read the book.

excited to find out the secrets of madigan, don's replacement. also ian needs a girl! Frost should write a book for him in the night huntress world series!

i love that kat and bones have a daughter, katie!!! Too bad it might also be tate's biological daughter because he is super annoying. regardless, katie will have a lot of love and kat and bones can be together and be happy. Marie lavoux will keep their secret. bummer they have to go into hiding to hide katie's existence but i'm glad they get to finally settle down and live their lives. also glad madigan is gone. great book! sad the series is over!

Spoilers

I'm so glad this series is over, the last few installments were kind of rubbish. Nonetheless, I'll still miss Cat and Bones as they're books were one of the first Urban Fantasy series I'd ever read.
I loved the first 3 or 4 books in the Night Huntress world but I hated the last two, they were so boring. And because of that I didn't think I'd enjoy this one but I actually ended up liking Up From the Grave. I wasn't blown away by it, I had a number of issues with it but overall I was entertained. I think a part of my enjoyment was down to being a tad nostalgic about saying goodbye to a series I started years ago and one which motivated me to fully get back into reading. I'll most likely re-read the series (except book 5 and 6) at some point in the future if I'm ever in a reading slump, I'm sure it'll help me get out of it.

Random Thoughts:

-Cat's old team (Tate, Cooper, Juan, Dave) missing. Cat and Bones think their disappearance has to do with the team's slimy new boss (Madigan). Cat/Bones find out that Madigan has been experimenting on vampires and ghouls and trying to create super soldiers that are a mix of both. They have to stop him before a war starts over the super soldiers.

-Cat finds out she has a seven year old daughter (Katie). Madigan stole her eggs and used a surrogate so he could have his own part vampire/human to experiment on.
I wasn't expecting that twist at all, Cat has never talked about kids before, she was happy with just being with Bones, so her being a mother wasn't something I thought would happen for her HEA.

-I loved that Cat had a child and not Bones. In pretty much all PNR/UF series it's always the hero with a kid and the heroine has to be the stepmother and take on the child as her own… So it was nice having the hero being the step parent for a change.

-Even though I enjoyed the Katie twist, I would have liked if Cat had found out about her earlier on in the book instead of late in the latter half. I wanted more scenes of Cat and Katie together, Cat and Bones discussing Katie, and Cat trying to come to terms with being a mum. There wasn't enough pay off to the Katie twist, I needed more of Cat and the gang interacting with Katie.

-Katie was a little badarse, it was great how she took down both Tate and Denise in seconds, she was definitely her mother's daughter.
It was tight how she grew up without family or love and was instead locked up and raised to be a killer. She was only seven yet she'd already been forced to killed hundreds. At least she'll be able to hold her own when she's older.
I kind of loved how she talked like a little soldier, it was cute.

-I was disappointed that Katie's biological father was an unknown, I know Tate believed it was him but that wasn't definite. I felt like the author left it ambiguous just so Bones fans wouldn't be upset that Cat had a connection with Tate or some other guy. I just didn't buy that Madigan or the scientists who were trying to create a one of a kind super soldier kid would think it unimportant who the biological father was. They were scientists, details should have mattered, also they could have used that information later on to manipulate an older Katie. It made no sense them thinking her father was unimportant just because he was human. The whole thing didn't add up.
It would have been good if Katie showed some physical traits similar to Tate or whoever the bio father was, after all Katie could just as easily have been Copper or Dave's kid… They could be missing out on knowing and raising their daughter. Yea, I really wish Katie's parentage had been cleared up.

-I've not liked Bones since he emotionally manipulated Cat into becoming a full vampire in book 4, my estimation of him went way down. I still kind of hate him but not quite as much as before — him embracing Katie as his daughter and protecting her even though it put his and Cat's life at risk raised my opinion of him.

-Cat was the same as ever… tough, stubborn, loyal, a little TSTL, and never thinking things through. It was odd her being so maternal with Katie when she'd never really wanted kids before. I guess after how her own mum treated her growing up she wanted to be better and wanted Katie to feel normal and loved.
I did find Cat a tad sexist and judgmental at times, she looked down at any woman who showed interest in Ian or some other sexy vampire. Since when has women fancying hot guys been wrong?! It really grated on me her thinking less of women for being attracted to a nice looking guy. I don't remember her being like that before.

-How did Cat not realise that Bones wasn't actually dead when he was shot? She knew he had that power where he looked dead, how could she not put two and two together especially when the last time she thought he was dead, he was actually alive??

-Why didn't Bones tell Cat his telekinetic powers had increased or tell her about his 'pretend to be dead so he could sneak into Madigan's compound' plans? He was such a hypocrite banging on about trust only to keep things from her. It was a double standard, he expected Cat to tell him every little thing about her but when he didn't do the same in return it was fine and dandy because it was for her own good, there was always an excuse with him… Yet he would never accept any excuse from her. Ugh.

-I hated Spade in this. He was so pissy and bitchy at Cat and Bones just because Denise chose to help them… It was Denise's choice to risk her life to help Cat's daughter. He acted like Cat/Bones had done something horrific in letting Denise help them save Katie. They did nothing wrong, and Denise was more than capable of making her own decisions. Ugh, he was such a dick.

-I felt quite sorry for Denise, in her book she was desperate to have a child of her own but instead it was her best friend who had no interest in kids who ended up being a mother. I hope Denise gets pregnant at some point, I'm sure Spade would be cool with her going to a sperm bank or something.

-Bones's British dialogue was atrocious. Like this (Bones replying to someone who he thinks is fucking with him):

“You must be taking a piss on me.”

Really?! That's not the expression at all… It's 'you're taking the piss' or 'are you taking the piss (out of me)' - I hate when dialogues are written badly.

-I didn't like the addition of Trove or whatever his name was as the villain. I hate when the villain or one of the villains in the final book of a series is someone new or never previously mentioned before. I expect final books to not have a villain-of-the-week type plot.

-There might be an Ian spin off book at some point which I'm quite looking forward to. I just hope the author doesn't somehow age Katie and make her his heroine, that would be sick.

-I wouldn't mind reading a spin off book about Annette, Marie, or Veritas. Even though I quite like Ian, I'd much rather read their stories than his, they seem far more interesting than him — he's just the typical fun loving manslut which has been done loads of times before. Whereas Veritas, Marie, and Annette seem more complex and have a lot more going for them.

All in all, a decent enough end to the series.

After 10 or 15 pages, my only thought was this:
I hope this series ends soon.

Yep.
Evidently, I was the only person on earth who didn't realize that this is the last book in the series.
Whoops.
Ok. Well, good for Jeaniene Frost! I hate to say it, because I fell in love with these characters years ago, but I was just about burned out on Cat & Bones.
Gasp! Sacrilege!
No. I don't mean it like that. What I mean is, I'm glad that for once an author didn't milk a series until it was drier than a dead cow's tit.

I'm not going to bother with spoilers, but I will say I'm basically happy with the send-off that Frost gave these guys.
There was no way for this to end in some absolutely glorious way...that everyone would love...but I think she came pretty close.
So, for that alone, I would give this book 4 stars.
But, luckily, it isn't just getting pity stars from me.
It had enough fun Cat 'n Bones stuff in it to keep my interest for the entire book. Lots of old characters made an impact on the story, and a couple of new characters kept it fresh.

It wasn't a 5 star read for me, though.
I never felt any real fear for any of the characters that were supposedly in danger. The twists were surprisingly easy to see coming, and without any shocking Reveals, it didn't quite pack the punch that would land it in 5 star territory for me.

Still, it was a good ending to one of the first paranormal series that I fell in love with.
Overall, very well done!

Don contacts Cat & Bones when he can't find or reach his old team (Tate, Juan, Dave and Cooper). They've been out of communication for weeks so it doesn't take long for them to connect their disappearance to Madigan. With the assistance of Ian, Spade, Denise, Mencheres and Kira, they begin the dangerous mission to find their friends and finally put an end to this creep.

I put off reading this long enough, dragging my feet, knowing this is the last book in the series. It was time for the series to end but I've enjoyed them so saying farewell was a little hard.

This story met or surpassed my expectations in every regard, even after a little slow start. There were some of the old expected skirmishes but blended in with some surprises, twists and unexpected turns. I like how it ended, even though it was bittersweet. And, there seems to be a huge door open for that much clamored for book starring Ian! I loved the story and it was a fitting end to a thoroughly enjoyable series. 4.5 stars

Since this is the 7th and last book in the series I'm not going to say much because you either love the series by now or you don't.

FYI though I would recommend reading the novella Home for the Holidays before reading this. There is a plot point revealed in that book that is only mentioned briefly in this one.

Leaving a series you love behind is always hard. I have totally enjoyed the entire ride and while I definitely enjoyed some of the books more than the others the journey I’ve taken with Cat and Bones is one of my favorites. The great thing about the ending of this series is that we get to see almost every character that we have become attached to, they all play a part. Some characters get a little more page time than others but we do get a glimpse of all of them at some point. The whole series wraps up nicely and even though we might see Cat and Bones a little in the future if Ian gets his own book or in Vlad’s final book I felt satisfied with how this series ended and will not be disappointed if they don’t pop up again.

Cat and Bones have come full circle. They will fight for each other over every obstacle that is introduced to them. Cat’s old team has gone missing and Don is hiding a terrible secret that he refuses to give up. If Cat is going to save her old team she will have to go to new lengths to find answers. Some of those answers were extremely unexpected.

This is an action packed installment with plenty of fighting the bad guys. Cat and Bones are in epic form and prove how much one will go through for the love of their life. There were moments I teared up and moments I smiled. Ian was in rare form this book and I wonder if there will ever be a book and a love interest to tame his wild adventurous spirit. Denise is our go to girl for many of the most trying fights, I guess it is good to have a demon infused human on your side. There is even a respite to Vlad’s wedding for any of you who missed that in his book.

The story is faced paced and even though I didn’t see where it was going to end up, I really should have. It was a great ending to a wonderful series that I’m sure I’ll read through again someday.

Up From the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
Night Huntress series #7. Final full length novel of the series. Vampire paranormal. Best read in series order. The two newer books listed (2022 and 2023) are from Bones POV and could be considered 1.5 and 2.5 instead of 8 and 9.
Cat and Bones deal with a rogue CIA agent that threaten their existence. It’s finally time to deal with mad scientist Madigan and his experiments on vampires and ghouls. The vampire Queen gives permission and it’s on them to solve the problem.

Cat and her determination and Bones and his protective nature add angst and twists in this novel that are explosive. A fantastic conclusion to the series.
“We were never properly introduced” I said in a vicious purr. “I’m the Red Reaper. And you’re dead.”

OH, casi olvido algo.....Odio a Tate .....bye!

EDIT

Just see Jeaniene Frost's announcement about Up From The Grave will become Cat and Bones's last book here :

http://jeanienefrost.com/2013/08/the-...

As much I (want to) understand, it's still make me sad. I can't even want to said goodbye to Bones *sobs*

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Jeaniene Frost just said that the tentative release date is push back to the end of this year!!

I don't care all of you prefer Vlad, but I want Bones!!! I need my Bones fix! *huff*

UPDATE

Guys, Jeaniene just update the cover for book #7! Finally its have cover and blurb! I do prefer the old model, but this one is not bad either. Just less fierce, Cat must fierce ;). But, I'm quite surprised to see the stepback :

*le gasp!*
They change the model for Bones!! And he has moustache, waaaaa!! :(( Can we get Paul Marron instead? (and damn, they already use him on Vlad cover!)
Dob't worry Jeaniene, I still buy Up From The Grave, despite its cover. You're still my favorite author after all ;)

Oh, the end of the saga of Bones and Cat, or is it Cat and Bones? And I just now realized that I missed a book about Denise and a book about Kira, WTF, how did I not know about these before? And then the Night Prince series? https://www.goodreads.com/series/4428...

Okay, back to this book: Jeaniene was smart to end it here. I have enjoyed this series, but I was definitely getting bored with Cat and Bones, and their romance wasn't very exciting anymore. I love the new subplot and how this is left to keep the door open for future stories from these characters.

This one lacked most of the witty humor I have come to enjoy from this series, and there was the least amount of character development, mostly just trying to shove all of the characters in for one last hurrah. It would be cool to see a spinoff featuring Marie Laveau for sure, though.

4 stars, and I will definitely be reading the other books from this world in the future.

I've decided to delete my old review. I never do that, but it doesn't reflect my feelings about this book at the moment. I was frustrated with it last I read it.
But in all honesty it was good. And I do love Cat and Bones too much to leave it with my frustration.
I don't know if there will ever be a new book in this series (Bones POV not included), but I'll gladly read it if or when. They'll always have a special place in my heart and in my thoughts.
I'm still sad though... Every time I think their story for us is over.
I haven't read Ian's books, so maybe they have a cameo there. All in all, one of the best paranormal romance couples ever created!

Peace,
A.

Well Jeaniene Frost did not disappoint us with the last Night Huntress book!! This book had it all...surprise revelations (one huge one), old friends and allies, and all our favorites from the past. I'm so sad to see this series end!!!

 photo ogaatWP1024x768_zpsnjtnf9i_edit_1391049037676_zpsozmae6oc.jpg

Cat & Bones once again find themselves fighting for survival against powerful forces that want their kind eradicated by causing a war between the Vampires & Ghouls. Evil Madigan plays a part in this but we learn that he is actually working for someone very powerful and it will take Cat, Bones, and all of their formidable allies to win this race war. Don finally reveals his connection to Madigan when he goes to Cat and informes her that Tate, Juan, Dave, and Cooper have disappeared and he fears they're dead, which leads us into the final book.

What a fantastic end to the series! But it really doesn't feel like the end...maybe wishful thinking but JF definitely left the door open for more. Perhaps sometime down the road she'll revisit and give us more of her wonderful Vampires, Ghouls, and Ghosts.....one can hope.
