After taking a job as an English teacher at a local high school, librarian Kim Reynolds discovers the body of a student, Sammy Granger, and finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation conducted by police detective Mike Gardner, her boyfriend.
Follow the twisted and dangerous path to the truth along with librarian-turned-high-school teacher Kim Reynolds. A path whcih leads (not unpleasantly) through the arms of two handsome men who stake rival claims on her heart. You'll be turning the pages faster and faster not only to see the homicide solved, but to see which man Kim chooses.
Kim Reynolds is the new English teacher at the high school after getting laid off from teaching at the university. But as the rookie, she's given the hardest classes. The acting principal seems to have a vendetta against her. And there is a boy who died mysteriously before the start of school. Also, her boyfriend-who-she-thought-was-divorced's wife shows up - surprise, not divorced.
Basically, I was really confused by this book. Time skips around strangely - things happen, then you turn a page, and suddenly, some non-defined amount of time has passed. The murder happened right away - then wasn't really mentioned for months (and 2/3s of the book). The relationship fizzling situation seemed to not be a big deal - then there's this other guy - and that all happens fast - and the first half of the book is some relationship drama. Not what I thought I was going to be reading. Then...Kim is sort of psychic in her dreams? That sort of came out of nowhere.
I know this is the third in the series, but I'm not really totally sure what happened. The plot didn't really come together very well and left several questions. Not sure where things stood with the guy (won't say more because I won't ruin it for you if you read it) at the end. It didn't totally clear up what all happened at the end either.
Overall, I'll go 6 of 10 for enjoyment and 3.5 of 5 for readability. Slow and jumps around a lot. Also I was expecting a mystery - so when this turned out to not really read as a mystery until the last third, I guess I also just didn't get what I was expecting. Hard to feel any emotions in this book and kind of hard to get into. If you like relationship drama with a touch of mystery, you might enjoy this one.

Story: Kim Reynolds, while out riding Harley's with her friends has a psychic premonition about a young lad, she finds his body, and she believes he has been murdered. Her friend Bert St. Croix who is with her, calls the death into the police department where she works.
Kim has recently lost her job at the University to downsizing and her present boyfriend manages to put in a good word for her at the High School. She gets the job, however, teaching school is not an easy job, especially when half of her students appear to be ESE students, and very difficult.
Her boyfriend Mike, proposes and she accepts.
I did not warm to the character of her boyfriend Mike at all. He proposes, and then his wife turns up at his house, telling him the divorce he thought he had had for years, never existed. He is totally amazed and so are the children, who thought mum had gone forever.
When one gets a divorce, one gets divorce papers! Mike obviously missed this part, 101 of getting a divorce, and also applying for Child Support from the mother. It does not appear he thought of applying for that either. For a police Lt he missed the ball on that one! However, Kim, although heartbroken, decides that as the love of her life, is not free, she will move on with her life.
She does not get off to a good start with the Assistant Vice Principal Hank Anderson, at the High School, however a better relationship does develop. Another murder, school grade tampering etc. etc. Good story line, (except for dope Mike) and an enjoyable read.
One is left with wondering, will Kim go back to Mike (oh please NO) or will she continue to gain better insight into men, and move forward. Maybe developing a better relationship with Hank Anderson.
Loved the Prologue, started off with racing of a Harley-Davidson V-Rod. One of those graces the "man cave" here, and maybe Kim will be riding her own Harley in the next book.
I look forward to reading the next in this series.
I won this through Goodreads and I was so excited about this read!
The beginning starts off with our protagonist, Kim, riding motorcycles with her girl friends. Now that I have finished the book I feel like that part of the story didn't really fit Kim's personality. She's tries to be as independent as she can but she was portrayed to be as a soft, well-mannered, simple young woman who would probably look silly on top of a Harley Davidson.
The beginning also starts off with a murder and the acknowledgment that Kim has a special ability. The murder nor this special ability were mentioned much through the story, except the end when everything unfolded. Which is a shame because I'm a sucker for the special abilities.
I felt this story was more of a romance. This was okay with me though because the romance was an interesting tangle. Who's she going to pick? Who's good and who's bad? Who's hiding something? .... All great questions for this story.
I do recommend this read. The ending makes me wonder if there will be a sequel. I'd like to see Kim use her ability more.
In this book you are deliberately led from suspect to suspect to try to deceive you.The writer creates the personalities of her characters in such a way as to let you see their idiosyncracies. What a diverse and unusual group of personalities they are. A puzzle of people and their opposing traits.Strong/weak..brave / fearful..wealthy and poor..confident and retiring..handsome and hideous in heart and mind. One of them a coldblooded murderer of high school aged youth. I personally prefer more depth of character as opposed to more characters.I found some of the circumstances in which the heroine found herself to be somewhat implausible and some of the characters as created, acting out of character. The solution to the mystery I found to be somewhat anticlimactic.
This cozy mystery had a bit more romance than I'm accustomed to, yet I found myself enjoying that part of it as much as I enjoyed the mystery itself. The plot and characters were intriguing, and ending a complete surprise. Kim Reynolds, the main character, possesses some psychic abilities, but the book didn't focus too heavily on that segment of her personality. All in all, it was a most enjoyable read.
This was an intriguing read start to finish. I got caught up in the main character, a librarian, immediately. She stayed with me after the book finished and I was sorry that her story had ended--because I wanted more. There was a nice mix to the romance and mystery, often hard to do. And there were good twists and turns to the plot, always a plus.
I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
I just couldn't get into this. It seemed so disjointed. Hard to like the main character, Kim. The author didn't make much use Kim's "psychic intuition". She overreacts to both Mike and Hank, and was just generally annoying. I didn't find the writing style engaging at all.
