Rate this book
Dickie Mullins, sometime private eye, owner of a failing bar and driver of a DeLoren, lives on a houseboat in the St. Paul Marina. His life would be a lot smoother if only he ignored ex-wife Rae Nell's get rich schemes. But that's not the way Dickie operates.

Rae Nell has just been hired by rip-off artist Terry Taggert to promote his unique line of Chow Meats. What better way to introduce the dining public to Chow Meats than an open house at Dickies Emporium of Dance? A meat market of a slightly different nature. By the time the open house is concluded Rae Nell's fling with her boss has erupted into a very public affair. His wife, heiress Helen Hardy, looks for justice. Meanwhile, Terry's assistant, Luther Suggs, is increasing the body count just as the Health Department closes down Dickie's Emporium. Did we mention the fur coat scandal? Fortunately for Dickie, his girlfriend, D.J., is still talking to him.

You're hooked from the first page to the final word of this hilarious read. Hang on tight for plot twists and turns sprinkled with wonderful surprises along the way. Another magnificent cast of Mike Faricy madcap characters and incredibly fast moving action make this a must read.

I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, I still live there as well as in Dublin, Ireland. I've been a soldier, freelance journalist, tended bar, sold designer cakes, owned a painting and decorating company along with a number of other schemes and scams. If that doesn't offend you I also play bagpipes with the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band. All my books stand alone, read them in whatever order you wish. They are filled with the sort of oddballs we are all curious about, but wisely, prefer to keep at a distance. None of my characters will be saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies or coups to take over the government. Rather, they inhabit a world just below the surface of polite society, characters with one foot on either side of the law. The circumstances they find themselves in are usually due to bad decisions, but bad decisions lead to interesting stories. They serve not so much as an example but as a warning to us all. Thanks for taking the time, happy reading.

Dickie lives on a dilapidated houseboat, drives a decrepit DeLorean, and owns a failing bar. What else could go wrong in his life? Enter ex-wife, Rae Nell, with another of her get-rich-quick schemes, and we watch as his life goes from bad to nightmare.

Mike Faricy has done it again – written a witty romp about a down-and-out guy who makes the absolute worst decisions possible. I always love his characters – flawed but loveable, ditzy and without a clue, or evil and stupid. He does a wonderful job of describing his characters, scenes, and keeps the story going without a lot of extra detail.

A fun read – fast-paced and entertaining. The book could definitely use a good editor, but the story is great.

Darker and grittier, this is not my favourite book by this author! It will however probably appeal to an ever wider spectrum of readers than most of his other work!
The plot is solid and the protagonists well developed but... The feeding of puppies to restaurant copies was not for me! I found this part even more disturbing than the cannabalism! Not a bad read! Good enough to evoke some strong emotion from me! So pick up a copy and make up your own mind!
