The Geek Job

Rate this book
Protect the geek, that’s the job she’s been hired for, but little did this shewolf expect to fall for a man of science.

As a werewolf who hires out as a bodyguard, Lexie is paid well to perform dangerous jobs that sometimes involve taking off her clothes. When she takes on the protection of a science geek for a vampire clan, she doesn’t expect her temporary girlfriend status to come with lots of pleasure. But a geeky human who pushes all her right buttons—and plays her body oh so right—isn’t reason enough for her to break the rules and fall in love.

Everything changes after an incident in the lab, but before she can decide if it’s safe to give him her heart, she has to help him survive.

The Geek Job by Eve Langlais

A female werewolf bodyguard is hired to protect the geek scientist. She’ll keep him busy and protected, even if that means sex in the shower, sex in the hallway or sex in the office.
Probably close to erotica but only because of the volume. Nothing kinky or BDSM related. The werewolf just has a very healthy appetite!

It’s entertaining when the geek finds out that other species exist and he decides to experiment.

Narrator (Tracy Marks): every sentence ended in a breathy sigh on the downswing. Not a favorite. A bit better at a higher speed but only marginally.

A nice quick enjoyable read.

And yes, it is about vampires and werewolves, but even so some parts I was just a bit "oh really!" It would have worked well a bit longer and with a less convenient of a solution. It all felt wrapped up far too neatly and quickly.

Lexie, for me, was a touch unlikeable to begin with, but she grew on me, and I loved Anthony.

But, I would love to read more based in this world, and maybe even a story about Frederick.

The Geek Job is not your typical erotic paranormal romance. Nope, Eve shows her talent yet again for writing something different and hot. I have to admit at first I wasn’t warming up to this story, but as I keep reading I found Eve added her twist to the story and made this geek into a hot demanding alpha. Oh my, *fan self*. Now, I need to find a geek for myself LOL.. You have to read “The Geek Job” for yourself to find out what this geek turned himself into in order to keep his lady wolf.

Ooooooooooh! This was such a great story!.

Not at all typical. Totally hot. A litle off the wall. Completely addictive.

I was looking for a great Langlais and I found it in this story. The blurb and/or the sneak peak chapter do not do this story justice.

The plot was quite busy with a lot of things going on. The hero was hot, the heroine was strong and interesting, and there was great character development. What more can we ask for?

I just ... don't really have words for how much I enjoyed this story, all I can say is that you should read it, you'll love it.

Like always I like to point out both good and bad things and there was a groaner in this story. The resolution to the main problem between the couple was way to easy. I hated that Langlais decided to go there. These two were really in love with each other, I wish they could have found a way to make it work without one of them having to dramatically change. However, much as I didn't like this aspect, Langlais fit it well into the plot and made it work, so I couldn't complain ... much.

Seriously great paranormal read.

I loved this story. It is going on my faves list and now I'm kicking myself for not reading it ages ago (it's been on my "To Read" list forever). It was just a great read and I really loved Anthony and Lexie. I liked how the story gave them time to grow and learn about each other. The story took place over a couple weeks, which isn't a long period of time but I felt it gave more time for their feeling to mesh and grow.

Lexie is an Alpha female shifter. Most of the male shifters want her as a mate but she's never found any male worth having and hasn't mated. She's fought and won against many males who couldn't take no for an answer and tried to force her to be their mate. Unfortunately, because of her attitude (not that I blame her) she's also an outcast from the other shifters. I personally just think the male shifters just make a big deal because they can't handle that none of them can beat her down. Her mother tries to support her but her father dis-owned her for her behavior making the comment of "she’d settle down once the right wolf came along who could beat the stubbornness out of her". For that I think I'd disown my father...but that's not really an important part of the story...it just shows the crap she has to put up with.

What is important is that Lexie finds herself attracted to Anthony, a scientist that she's hired to protect over the weekend while he's at a conference. Since Anthony doesn't realize the danger he's in, she has to protect him on the sly...by acting like weekend fling. Things go well over the weekend but by the end of it Anthony has fallen for Lexie hard. A plot twist has Anthony thinking that Lexie died saving him from a bullet and he goes in to a funk. Lexie had fallen for Anthony too but figured it was best for him to think her dead since he's human and she couldn't stay with a human long term. She was careful with him while they were together but if she stayed with him, she'd eventually loose control and hurt or kill him so she stays away.

Fortunately, Anthony's employer isn't pleased with Anthony's funk (because it's hindering his work) and engineers them meeting back up. Of course during all this Anthony finds out Lexie was hired to be at the conference to protect him and not with him because she liked him. This causes some issues and eventually he finds out her secret and the real reason why they can't be together. I don't want to spoil the story but lets just say that Anthony is smart enough to figure out a way for them to be together and I really liked the way the ending played out. I loved this story and would recommend it. 2 thumbs up!!! :D

9/30/14 - Just finished a reread of this story. Its still a great story and I love Anthony and Lexie. :)

My Review:
This was simply a fun afternoon's read. I took the afternoon off for Mother's day and took my Kindle to the coffee shop. This book was perfect for my afternoon. It only took a couple of hours to read. It wasn't too heavy or too deep- just pure entertainment. But there definitely was enough story and character development, that it didn't seem lacking...at all!

Anthony is a scientist on the verge of discovering the cure to a vampire's aversion to sunlight. As such, he is in a very dangerous position from other creatures and bounty hunters hired to keep that from happening. Lexie has been hired to protect him during a weekend convention where he's the speaker. Unfortunately, he is clueless..about a lot of things:
1. that he works for a vampire
2. that mythical creatures exist
3. the danger he is in and how serious it is
4. that his new girlfriend is being paid to be with him
5. that his new girlfriend is also a werewolf

Like I said, this was just a fun little read. Anthony is pure geek scientist, but a buff one because he uses workout time to work through problems in his head from the lab. He is also 6'4". Lexie has abandoned the pack-lifestyle because she has too much alpha in her to submit to any male that can't dominate her and none have been successful yet. Strangely though, she feels differently about that when things start to heat up with Anthony.

I think that part of the reason why this story worked so well for me is that neither Lexie nor Anthony has ever connected with anyone else sexually the way that they do with each other. On paper, their relationship should never work, but their chemistry together is so amazing- it just works. Even with all the secrets/facts that are being withheld from Anthony, he's smart enough to accept that they have a good thing.

I liked this one!

I love Eve Langlais' stories. They're funny, her heroines are sassy and idependent and her alpha males are usually to die for, like this guy...

Oh wait, did I say alpha? No, Anthony is anything but. He's a scientist with a no-nonsense approach to life. Science, not superstition is his driving force. And his mission in life is to cure the unfortunate "sun allergy" his wealthy boss is suffering from...

Of course, this isn't something the other supernatural creatures he does not believe in, are ready to accept, and so the hunt for the geeky scientist is on. The solution? Call in a werewolf bodyguard that can act as his girlfriend/incognito bodyguard.

Lexie is as alpha as they come. A trait that's gotten her ejected from her pack. She's tough. She's independent. She can't date human males. So why is her inner bitch suddenly yipping with glee every time the big geek looks at her? Suddenly, her paycheck is not as important as bedding - and keeping - the geeky nerd with the surprisingly hot bod.

This book reminds me of Claiming Her Geeks, also by Eve Langlais, but without the menage. His cluelessness is sometimes hilarious, Lexie's inner bitch even funnier. However, as an animal lover I am deducting one star because of the lab rats that all (except for one) bite the dust in this story. Animal testing, even in literature? NOT cool, Eve:-(

The Geek Job by Eve Langlais does a great job of bringing a-not-so alpha guy together with an implacable, sexy heroine who can hold her own against the toughest of situations. I really like the juxtaposition of the male/female roles in this book. Eve Langlais has written a jewel of a story with interesting characters and an original narrative.

Lexie who is a werewolf is hired as a body guard to protect a human scientist named Anthony who is working to unlock some secrets held within supernatural blood, though he is not aware that the blood he is experimenting with is not human. As the story moves forward, the unlikely pair fall for each other. The reader receives the enjoyment of watching the hero grow into a courageous man who cannot live with just his occupation any longer. He yearns to be a man worthy of Lexie. The journey that the reader is taken on is an enthralling ride that leads you to love, intrigue, and excitement. Don’t miss out on this tale.

Happy Reading from Bona Fide Reflections!

Ha ha ha! What a cute premise of a badass "shewolf" heroine being hired to protect a rather shy scientist. I can visualize it so clearly. Personally, I would love a geeky, hot sexy guy who comes into his own. It was a quick and fun read, and I love the chemistry between Anthony and Lexie and I enjoyed watching them discover how to work out their sexual challenges. The characters were fun, there was a lot of humor, and the plot progressed nicely. I'm hoping that Ferderick's story is picked up and explored in the next book.

Update: Re-read August 14, 2023 and I liked it just as much as two years ago.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy:

If you enjoy sexy fluff with characters who make you fall in love with them, THE GEEK JOB is perfect for you. The characters are instantly likeable, even when they’re bad, and their relationship, although initially built on falsehood, is fun to read about and believable. I find this book is nearly addictive - I’ve managed to read it twice in the last year alone.

Lexie is sexy, independent and knows exactly what she wants. She’s also pleasantly surprised when the geek she’s been hired to protect isn’t 60 years old and gross. He’s shy and awkward, but also tall, passionate and in pretty good shape. Anthony typically only cares about his experiments, and can honestly not believe his luck when Lexie pays attention to him when he gets to the conference. He’s so distracted, in fact, that he doesn’t even notice the multiple attempts on his life throughout the weekend.

The reasoning behind the ruse - Lexie pretending to be a fling and not telling Anthony she’s been hired to protect him - is flimsy at best. The vampire who has hired Anthony has not told him about supernaturals, and wants to keep it that way if possible. Anthony believes he is only trying to decode the genetic reason for his boss’ violent sun allergy. He doesn’t know that fairies and other vampires are trying to kill him or kidnap him for their own purposes, respectively. Still, once everything starts to unravel, Anthony catches up quickly and figures out stuff on his own, proving he is as clever as he is supposed to be.

This book hits all my guilty pleasure buttons: a decently developed mythology, kickass heroine, clever characters and just enough romantic misunderstanding tropes without making me roll my eyes in frustration. These kinds of books are meant to be fun, and THE GEEK JOB is tons of fun.

Lexie was too much of an Alpha to even try pretending she was just another pack female. After tearing into one too many of the pack males, she was banished and now makes her living on her own terms. Right now her terms are playing body guard and pretend girlfriend to a geeky scientist working on the vamp problem, sunlight = steaming pile of goo. Anthony was tongue tied when the most gorgeous woman he’s ever seen speaks to him. He can’t believe his good fortune when she actually seems interested, he’s a scientist who lives his life by facts and hard evidence, but she might just convince him to believe in the myth of love at first sight.

Eve has given us another of her funny and uber sexy stories with The Geek Job. Filled with a ton of her trademark snark and graphically explicit sex, this book just adds another notch in Ms. Langlais' already filled posts as a major star in women's erotic romance. At first I was a bit thrown off by her choice of hero, and was wondering if she could actually manage to make him a match for our viciously alpha heroine. Shame on me for being a "doubting Thomas". Of course she does, and in splendid fashion. If you're looking for tender, sweet and gentle...look elsewhere cuz it ain't here. Nor are there any playful euphemisms like swollen love python or glistening flower petals. It's all put out on the table in every raunchy, delicious detail.

Lest you think it's all rollicking sex, there is always an intelligent and entertaining story filled with well developed characters. Eve Langlais creates some of my favorite feisty and fierce heroines. Not a twit (yes, I mean twit) in the bunch. If you're in the mood for something playful and fun that is guaranteed to knock the chill off this autumn nights, check out The Geek Job.

I'd have to say this is one of my favorite stories by Eve, I was completely hooked by the smexiness of it! I'm so used to reading books where the hero is this dashing, warrior, uber Alpha guy and the heroine takes a journey into growing stronger. It was the complete opposite with The Geek Job.

Lexie is the kick butt and feisty character who knows what she wants and has absolutely no problem in taking it. She's a bodyguard and good at her job which lands her with a job protecting a scientist researching something for the local vampires. Enter our hero, Anthony. This guy is pure geek, a guy who is at home in his lab and awkward when confronted by a beautiful woman. When he meets Lexie at a convention he's speaking at, he can't believe his luck that not only does she give him the time of day, but she rocks his world at night with some pretty HOT action *wink wink* Everything about Anthony is endearing and you begin to picture this sexy guy with a pocket protector and taped glasses. But it's him that does the transformation in this story and watch out, because it will blow your mind!

Lexie and Anthony come from different worlds - she's a werewolf and he's a human surrounded by supernaturals. So what's a guy to do when he faces losing the woman he's grown to love? What any self respecting geek would do.. he hits the lab and applies himself to finding the solution. This story was amazing from beginning to end, keeping me completely engrossed by the chemistry between them. I will add this (because I don't want to spoil anything) Anthony was really appealing in the beginning and he caused a soft flush to spread as I read more about him. The Anthony at the end of The Geek Job? Full blown tingles, swoon and revved engine! That man had me purring and eating out of his palm of his hand - I would've done anything he asked and more.

I would definitely recommend this book - not just for an inventive storyline and great characters but for the emotion I felt as I read it. The great thing about Eve's books is you can sit down and read it in a day. You get the opportunity to fully submerse yourself into the world she's created and become a part of it. The Geek Job shares a strong heroine (don't you just love that!) and a hero worth swooning over. Perfect for any lover of romance! Happy reading...

This novella is erotica that I think might have worked even better as a full length novel, because the author has a nice grip on her characters and on the influence of paranormal beings on our world. In a matter of fact way that I could easily believe would work just like that.

Because it is erotica in intent, we do get a whole lot of sex right away and throughout, but the strong personality of Lexie, the heroine, and the nice foil that her geek is for her personality make for an emotional connection after the first 30 pages or so, which makes the sex satisfying to read, too.

Okay, the plot-deus-ex-machinas at the end to make sure they could have a happy end come very fast, but then this is 134 pages on my reader (at 14pt. font size).

I would love it if the author could afford better editing, although there were not many spelling mistakes - but the stylistic monotony of every descriptive sentence with Lexie starting with "She *did whatever*..." did drag me out of the story repeatedly.

So we are all used to hot strong drool worthy men taking spot in our paranormal romances, well be prepared to swoon over one very geeky man!!

When you find out that our main man is suppose to be a nerdy scientific guy you may think to just skip this. I mean we all like our men to be that alpha male and someone we can all fall head over heals for. But please do not let this dissuade you from this book. Because you will miss one hot book!!

This book really blew my expectations. The characters had amazing chemistry and you find yourself totally in love with a very tall scientific geek with glasses.

He doesn't stay the tongue tied blushing fool for long though. And trust me you are going to want to see how this all plays out!!

Besides our geek turning all sexified you get a nice romance, some sexin where you might need an ice pack to cool down from and a lot of fun!!

Highly recommended - this book was brilliant. It was humorous, romantic, adventurous, cheeky, different and just plain fun :))

The turnaround of the stereotypical characters was great with our heroine being kickass with an understandable chip on her shoulder as Lexie has always had to fight her way out of being pushed into the submissive wolf mould [kicking and screaming]. Our hero a brilliant scientist who is shy/diffident when not in his science element. The more time Anthony spends with Lexie the more confident he becomes - I guess as he finds something he can relate to/care about as much as science.

My review makes it sound boring however it is anything but, I feel in love with both characters which were entertaining - I wish them well :)

This was a super cute, sexy, funny read!

Having read this in one afternoon, I felt like it went by way to fast . . but still enjoyed the book very much!

Lexie has a job to do, one she has named "The Geek Job". 72 hrs, keep the geek safe . . put him in the limo to return and job done! Simple, right? Ha!

I don't wanna give anything away . . so that's all you're getting out of me. Just know that I enjoyed the read very much and would recommend! Great book for the beach or laying in the hammock!

This is a short and nice story with quite a potential.

Anthony is a scientist working on the cure for the vampire's intolerance for sun (even though he has no idea that the vampires exist). Lexi is hire by him vampire boss to protect him without him knowing about it. The easiest way is to seduce the shy scientist.

The characters and the plot have some potential. The whole idea of Anthony working on a cure and Lexi being his bodyguard is pretty enjoyable. I even liked the end. My only complain is that the story is too short. It could be made into a full-size novel.

Hear me roar

These two might have came together under false pretenses, but they are a sassy power couple who are meant to last. I love how she had no choice but to fall in love with this shy alpha male, and by the end his true strength shined as bright as the sun. The author kept the story exciting with bad guys and bullets making this a story I just couldn’t put down. This book is a fantastic adventure for anytime of day, and I can’t wait to see what the author imagines next.

If you have never heard of Eve Langlais then you are missing out. She makes writes funny erotic books. There are some books that are just a bit to spicy for me and I have to pass but that is not a bad thing. This book is a nice complement to her catalogue.

There was action, danger, and sex. I hope this becomes a series because I want to know more about Lexington and Anthony. I also want to know more about Frederick. I think knowing more about why he is so pressed about being able to walk in the daylight is interesting. I do understand that not all books should have a followup or there should be a series but a girl can wish and dream.

This book was just ok. I listened to it, and I read along. The narration was robotic and it took away from the experience. But, it also doesn't have an interesting plot. Don't expend the money. Just find something a little better.

Has it been 4 years already since Shameless? My first and only trip to Shameless was in 2018. I came home with over 50 books. It is a good thing I packed an empty suitcase to ensure I had all that I could bring all my newfound treasures home. Ms. Langlais is an author I have read before going to the book convention so I was very excited to see her in person. I ended up getting this book whilst I was there.

Lexie is an ubber alpha werewolf who she thumbs her nose at submissive expectations and becomes a bad ass bodyguard. Her newest job is to protect human, Anthony, who unknowingly is working for a vampire and that pesky allergy to sunshine.

Eve Langlais is quickly becoming one of my top tier authors. Her stories are definitely entertaining and worth reading. The one thing that really surprised me in this story is that it felt like a longer read. There was plenty of plot and character development which makes all the smoking hot smex scenes even better.
