Okay, fans of the previous three books need to be warned: this one has quite a different feel. I don't think that it's necessarily bad, but it did surprise me and took away some of my enjoyment. The story is as simple as the ones in the other three books, and what really pulled me in (again) was the emotional issue of Victor finding a mate who is half-demon and struggling with not just his own but his family's deeply ingrained prejudice.

Victor is the oldest brother, not that you'd think so looking at his emotional maturity. He does love his family and younger brothers deeply, but he has trouble letting them know. He has far less trouble letting his unexpected mate, the half-demon Malachi know. I loved how he kept saying that "his eyes itched". Took me a while to figure out that was his code for "crying". Dealing with those emotions was a whole different set of issues.

I really missed reading about Malachi's side of the story. While I felt I was able to connect to him through Victor and got more than enough information about his background, the emotional closeness just wasn't there. I hope Joyee returns to the previous style of showing both main characters' points of view throughout the story for the next book.

I think this is a good read with some thought-provoking exploration of prejudice and how it can blind us to the truth of another human's feelings and needs. While the exploration wasn't deep, it was enough to add some meat and good tension to this story.

Constant POV changes made this story confusing at times. This was not one of my favorite Marius Brother stories.

2.5 stars. I really didn't enjoy the change in writing style from third person in the first three stories of the series to first person in this story, so that has affected my rating because it affected my enjoyment of the story as a whole. This story seemed to almost have the feel of a number of diary entries.

Victor is strong, caring, and overwhelming at times. Nearly all of the writing focuses on him, along with how and what he is feeling, within the plot. Malachi is cute, but because of the first person writing style and the dominant nature of Victor, I felt cut off from him as a character. Even the understanding of his life so far and the abuse and ill-treatment he was subjected to didn't help me connect and empathise with Malachi.

The half demon slant was really interesting. I enjoyed how Joyee introduced yet another faction into this fictional vampire/demon world. I would have loved to have seen this developed further, with extra information on Malachi's history and the possibility of future half-demon's, but can also accept the resolution of this affliction.

It was also interesting how past issues and plot sequences were interspersed throughout this one, with nearly all characters from previous stories getting some airplay throughout. There were a couple of places that felt slightly disjointed or when I would have felt lost or adrift if I hadn't read the previous stories, but you could get away with reading this story as a stand alone if you really wanted to. What should I say?? I like JF's books for what they are, namely light fluffy reads. Easy storyline, quick to read during a break or in doc's waiting room, not too much thinking required. Not too much plot, mostly repeating even, with the typical huge dominant male and smaller submissive partner, but this one was just ... a bit too much.

I really felt sorry for Victor when Malachi wasn't accepted by all family members because of his status as half demon, however Victor, you suppose to be the oldest son, over 800 years old, but why did you have to cry so much?? Geez, man up!

Nevertheless, I'll read the next one in the series.

I really liked this story but as others have pointed out it is very one-sided. I wanted to know more about Malachi because his story really touched me. I actually teared up with this book and I know I would have had a much bigger emotional attachment to it if I could have heard more of Malachi's voice.

In the fourth installment of the Marius Brothers series, Ms. Flynn has definitely put together a dynamic due. She has paired a vampire warrior with his sworn enemy, a demon. This was a pairing that had me wanting to read Victor immediately.

Victor Marius is an eight hundred and ninety-five year old vampire without a mate. To say he’s extremely lonely is an understatement. Just when he thinks he won’t ever find his mate, he finds one smoldering on the side of the road. Victor is a little taken back on how to accept his new found mate, who happens to be a demon. Vampires and demons are like oil and water, they don’t mix, but when Victor is with Malachi all he wants to do is love him and to make up for Malachi’s difficult past.

Malachi is a victim of circumstances. He didn’t choose the life he has been forced to live, but it’s all he’s ever known. Born into the world of demons all he’s ever experience is cruelty. Malachi is an amazing character. After suffering years of abuse, he still has the ability to love and trust. His past doesn’t define who he is and when he meets Victor he’s ready for a fresh start with no looking back.

Victor and Malachi becoming mates is only part of this story, the other is the reaction from Victor’s family. It was interesting to see how this half demon was going to be accepted into this family. It was surprising to see some of the reactions Malachi received, and who they came from was a little shocking as well. There are individuals in this family who have suffered violence at the hands of demons and that is clouding their acceptance of Malachi. It’s heartwarming to see how this family works together to heal the wounds of the past. The Marius family is one of love, respect, and loyalty. Once a part of their inner circle, no one gets left out or left behind.

Victor is a passionate love story between two men from completely different backgrounds but are wanting the same things out of life, love and acceptance. If you’re looking for a story that will bring a tear to your eye one minute and having you fanning your face the next from the very descriptive love scenes, this is the story for you. Victor is an excellent addition to this series and a must read.

Let me start by saying that I have already read the majority of the books in this series and was following it for a long time. I lost track of it and realized recently that I had about 4 new books in the Marius World Series to read. But it has been a long time since I read some of them, and I couldn't really remember much of the overarching plot. I also hadn't read much of the "Beyond the Marius Brothers" stories and never even added the ones I read onto Goodreads.
I decided to take up the challenge of re-reading all the books (21 so far) in this series chronologically and writing a few thoughts on each. So I will set new dates to the "read date" section as I go along.

Victor: This book won me over because of Malachi. He was pretty darn awesome. I thought that Joyee Flynn also did a pretty decent job of dealing with his traumatic past. I think Victor was great with his mate; loving, patient, kind. And I ABSOLUTELY loved that Victor gave Malachi the chance to explain things when there were misunderstanding. One of the things that is really annoying is when the whole plot is based on two people who continuously misunderstand each other, and all the drama and story come from that.

I liked the book.

Joyee Flynn always throws the reader a curve ball, but this time the curve ball is left for one of the characters. Victor is the embodiment of a big brother and throughout the series has stood by his brothers and their mates. In this story, I found I wanted to scream at Victor’s family because they are so callous and selfish. Despite the resentment, I found myself sympathetic to them all and thoroughly enjoyed the story of the eldest Marius brother. I am always excited to read a Joyee Flynn novel but the Marius Brothers stories are the best.

typical joyee flynn serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical joyee flynn? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).

out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all books by :
joyee flynn
sunny day
lynn hagen
stormy glenn
scarlett hyacinth
carol lynne
gabrielle evans

unless otherwise noted. i'd apologize, but i'm not sorry. i figure it's about as much time as they put into their books. dammit! well, i made it all the way to the end being rather moderate in my assessment. that's a win

A fun book. Victor is the oldest and like a lot of older brothers is very serious and protective. Malachi is a half demon vamp who has been a prisoner in a cave is whole life. The two meet and .... well that is the story. I love Victor is a big "alpha" male and Malachi isn't. Malachi is perfect for Victor to bring back the joy of life. The realism of the two meeting and trusting each other so quickly just didn't strike correctly but this is a story of vamps and "mates" so liberties are allowed. It is sweet and heart warming.

Ahh wow where to friggin start???? While I have enjoyed Joyee Flynns other books, this one made me kinda cringe. It was like a bad B movie it was cheesy fake and overly dramatic. And while I don't mind a little of it in my books and characters, this was way over the top bad for me. I did not connect with the MCs at all. Wished I could have liked it and that it had been better than it actually was. 1.9 stars.

3.5 Delightful Divas. Victor is the last of Joyee Flynn’s Marius Brothers stories and I think partly why I enjoyed Victor’s story so much, or that it appealed to the romantic in me, was that he had been alone for so very long. We learn a little more about the real personality of the tough guy Victor, and how in reality he isn't so tough. The book brought tears to my eyes in parts and made me laugh in others. A wonderful addition to the Marius Brothers' Series.

Victor and Malachi. I liked this :) I liked how Victor was with Malachi and watching Malachi live in the "real world". Since all he was a cave life, it was kind of refreshing to see someone who was old, but yet viewed the world through the eyes of a toddler. Everything was new to him.

Others have mentioned some of the issues with the book and I agree. I just had to add --

"My big, dominant mate" as an endearment? Ohhhhhhhhkay. I didn't know if I should laugh or cringe.

That's a good twist having his mate be what his whole purpose for living is to hunt down and kill. The mate's innocence is also at a whole new level. I'm glad he's not exceptionally young.

I don't like the joy they're getting burning these creatures alive. I don't like suffering and if I were the one doing it? Two wrongs don't make a right and all that. I wouldn't want the worst serial murderer tortured. That would lower me to that person's level. I'm better than that.

If he'd never washed his hair, he would smell horrible. His hair would also be a big giant dreadlock unless it was short. But if he wasn't allowed to wash his hair, who would bother cutting it?

They'd been together most of two days and he hadn't needed to use the toilet? I'm impressed.

The evil demon has a Latino name. Argh.

Some of the sex was hot but there was too much of it.

I don't like how they solved all the problems by making it so that

Not okay to spank and punish him for real when he says he's not in the mood. They didn't agree to a domestic discipline relationship.

There was some illness but not really peril. The conflict was good when not everyone accepted Malachi.
