Prequel Genetic Attraction

Geneticist Jake Martin has brilliant scientific vision, but he’s blind to his own nature. Despite his flagging interest in women and his past experience with a man, he’s convinced himself he’d be happy if he could just have his older boss, Emmaline Silvay, as his lover. Living in his closeted dream world, he’s unprepared for the powerful attraction he experiences to supermodel Roan Black, “the most beautiful man in the world.”

Jake can’t resist the gorgeous, androgynous creature. Who could? he thinks. But Roan refuses to accept him until Jake admits that it’s a man he wants and this man in particular. Jake tells himself it’s just sex, but his refusal to understand what he really needs threatens the best chance at happiness he’s ever had. Is there a future for a PhD scientist who refuses to see and a high school dropout supermodel who understands all too clearly?

Publisher's This book is predominantly a romance between two bisexual men and features primarily male/male sexual practices; however, it contains m/f and m/m/f scenes and is therefore classified as menage, not strictly LGBT.

Synopsis: THE SCIENTIST AND THE SUPERMODEL by TARA LAIN
Geneticist Jake Martin has brilliant scientific vision, but he’s blind to his own nature. I have just discovered m/m romance books – I am an absolute lover of romance and I had thought I would enjoy this genre as much as I do. Saying that, I have to admit that some of the books I have read so far I have loved and some not that much, reason being that a lot of them follow the same formula like:

-straight man suddenly discovers he’s attracted to me and does everything possible to fight it or hide it
-gay man acting macho to hide his gayness from the world and the guy he’s now hot for and thinks he has no chance because he’s straight
-they fight off the attraction until suddenly straight man realizes he’s now gay, discovers they guy he’s been attracted to is gay and they get it together, lots of times even in scenes that have nothing to do with that point of the story
-they have their HEA

I have been wondering if I would ever find a story where the plot, whilst having conflict, angst and obstacles, the main focus would be on the romantic journey of the two persons. And The Scientist and the Supermodel, by Tara Lain, is, for me, one of those books. And yes, it may not be a total m/m romance so some readers – there is a ménage scene between the protagonists and a woman, it’s Jake and Roan’s story of their relationship.

I could not put this book down. I was enthralled and captivated by these two men, who I fell totally in love with from the first time I met them.
The gorgeous and brilliant Jake Martin, a scientist geek who has never come to terms about his sexuality and OMG…Roan Black, beautiful, sensitive and sweet supermodel!!!!!!!! The chemistry between the two is explosive, tender, sweet and so so romantic!!!!

I adored the side characters – Jake’s family…totally amazing parents, so accepting and loving. His brother Cal..what a hoot…loved him too. And Roan’s “family”…fabulous characterization.

Tara Lain captured it so beautifully – acceptance of who you are and finally finding the courage to go with what you feel in your heart in this warm, uplifting and sweet love story that leaves you with such a good feeling for a long long time.

I SO DID NOT WANT THIS BOOK TO END!!!!!

This is the first book I have read from this author and I cannot wait to read the next one in the series.

This isn't the classic opposites attract that you would think given the title. It's more of a PWP confused about my sexuality in the face of overwhelming temptation story.
It's not bad, but I did have a significant WTF? way to take me out of the story issue with this book.
Personal Hygiene. Come on people. I'm not a prude, but either go all out with the ridiculous fantasy sex where no one uses a condom and no one cares, or clean up a little!

The Scientist and the Supermodel review on The Romance Reviews.

The most beautiful man in the world falls for the brainy geneticist, Jake. This is where it all started. In this story, the prequel to Genetic Attraction, we learn how Jake and Roan meet. Jake is at the science convention where he crosses path with Roan in a hotel bar. The two fumble with each other, trying to come to terms with a relationship they can both accept.

This story is filled with misconceptions, assumptions and pain. Jake isn't the loving and self-assured lover in Genetic Attraction. Instead, he's just learning he may be attracted to men even though he's dated women all his life. He's still wrestling with his unrequited love with his boss, Emmaline, when Roan blows into his life like a category five tornado.

Jake's stupid male antics make me want to hit him over the head. His unintentional careless words and actions cut little tiny slices into Roan's lovely warm heart. I'm surprised Roan doesn't slowly die from internal bleeding. After a few of the stunts Jake pulls, I wanted to kill him, not unlike Roan's friends. Jake's struggle with his sexual identity places everyone unwillingly on a roller coaster ride. Roan, on the other hand, is a lovely and much abused man who despite all odds, still sees the best in people and gives many second chances.

I loved this story. The realistic responses from each of the characters pulled me in. Ms. Lain has a way with showing the flaws of her characters and then flip them upside down. Her male on male sex is hot and not what I expected. The surprise threesome was pivotal in the story and necessary, despite the grief it caused. I recommend this book to people who like a happily for now story with a guaranteed happily ever after in the book detailing Jake, Roan and Emmaline's story.

a Whipped Cream Reviews 'BEST BOOK'!

originally posted at http://whippedcream2.blogspot.com/201...

“He’d managed to get hard earlier, but only after she’d sucked him like a Hoover and he’d done some seriously heavy fantasizing.” This is one line that will stick in my mind for a long, long time. One of the things I love about reading books by Tara Lain is the way her imagination comes out in the written word. It's all the cute lines and the vivid details that leave you smiling and going back to re-read them again. I fell in love with both of the heroes in the first book, Genetic Attraction, so I was eager to get my hands on this one. This story was more of a step back in time and told how the two hot men, Roan Black and Jake Martin, got together.

It's funny how, when you read a book that is so good, the characters not only hold your attention but your heart as well. In this story I got to see the lust and love of both Roan and Jake grow and bloom into something everlasting. As I watched the tale unfold, I could not help but wish them both the best and hoped they'd come away with everything they wanted. Not only does the book have an in-depth plot that broke my heart, it also had a beautiful air of tenderness that left me breathless.

Roan's need for a family and to be loved, even though he is a supermodel, was a story line that made my heart ache for him. It was hard watching and waiting for Jake to make up his mind and decide what he wanted out of life. There is so much emotion between the pages of this book that I found it hard to put down. This is one of the best M/M stories I have read and one I will be reading again. The story of Jake and Roan is so exquisite I walked away from this tale loving them both.

***** Delightful M/M GFY -Gay for You - story !!! *****
Jake is a genetic scientist, handsome, blonde, blue eyed, and struggling. He is in love with his boss, Dr. Emmaline, but can't act on it in the stuffy small world of research. Jake doesn't know
that Roan is a supermodel...

He meets Roan at a conference hotel, and they get together. Roan's a supermodel, worldwide celebrity, and a magnificently beautiful male.
Jake

had a homosexual experience in college, but never went beyond that, but it's Roan who brings the feeling up front. Not other men, just Roan.
As they go back home, get back to work, neither can forget the other. I liked Jake's openness with Roan, and willingness to learn his first time M/M sex. Roan is an amazing character, and I liked how he chose his name, plus I liked that it rhymed with "moan". LOL ! Jake's family is awesome, but the outside world and fellow colleagues are a different story. * The sex is superb, fun, erotic and exciting. (M/M with a brief M/M/F) The story flows and the deep characters are wonderful.
I love a Tara Lain story. This is the first in a series, but can stand alone. I have to tell you, you will want to read the other tales, because they build from this one. Awesome , terrific, amazing, and well thought out.
I know a reviewer said this isn't realistic, but it's fiction, so it doesn't have to be real, right? It's an escape; a fun story to wrap you up and take you along for a sexy ride.
I highly recommend this story and the whole series. I read them out of order, but it didn't matter, it was worth reading.
Please ENJOY !!!

Jake, a genetic researcher, has loved his boss Emma from afar. He can't tell her because she's older and his boss. Trying to forget for a night he goes to a bar where he meets Roan, a male supermodel. After having sex, Jake freaks and leaves but he can't forget Roan. Meeting again in NY they have an incredible night of sex. Jake believes he is straight but can't get Roan out of his mind. He hurts Roan throughout their relationship but can it be saved or has he finally overstepped the line in the pain department? I liked the characters in The Scientist and the Supermodel. I could understand Jake's fear of facing the truth about his sexuality. I felt Roan's pain each time Jake hurt him. Loved Jake's mother. She knows her children. The sex scenes were hot. Good read, not to be missed.

Hhhmmm...so I learned something about myself as a reader, apparently I can do certain types of m-m-m menage, but don't like m-m-f menage. So that really slants my view of this book, so if that isn't an issue for you, this might be a book for you. It threw the whole story off for me and I had to get back in, only to be thrown off again. The only other m-m-f I read was a Josh Lanyon book and was hoping my dislike was an anomaly (apparently not).

I love Roan and just absolutely wanted to know so much more about him. Didn't love Jake so much (to self centered), so my alternate reality for this relationship would be Jake and women can go off on their own and Roan and a new man start their own relationship and I get to read a book with just them :D

I love Tara Lain, but I avoided this series of hers for a while because it's mmf menage. I finally broke down and read this first book in the series because I needed a mmf book for a challenge.

I'm happy it was this one, because I enjoyed Tara's writing just as much here. I loved Jake and Roan and the extended family. In this book, there's only one brief mmf menage encounter and it was mostly about the mm relationship.

However, I probably won't read more in the series because it looks like future books are more menage oriented and, as much as I love these characters, I just can't deal with them being with a 3rd person, particularly a woman.

It's been a while since I read anything other than a M/M but I have to read a "menage with girl cooties" for a challenge I'm in. This is the prequel to that book and contains a brief M/M/F scene. Up to that point I was enjoying the book as I liked both of the protags but that scene just didn't work for me. Amazingly though it wasn't so much the fact that the third is a girl it was just that I didn't like the character. As a trio they didn't appeal to me. Hopefully when I read the actual menage book, Genetic Attraction, it will be better since I've heard/seen good things about it.

The romance is fine and hot and angsty, alright. It has many aspects of straight-realized-about-his-bisexsuality conflicts. But nooooooo, while I found Jake and Roan was cute and hot and so perfect for each other, I found their choices to do menages wasn't exactly my cup of man-love tea. As much I love slash romance, I still loyal to one-partner idealism. I'm not into threesome, either it was M/M/F or M/M/M. But I love Roan and Jake's relationship, but nooooooo.... *wail*

This was an excellent book! I really didn't want it to end and am glad that there is a second book to keep going with this couple. That said, I still thought it could have still been a little longer in my opinion.

The Scientist and the Supermodel was a great book to curl up with on a rainy night. It was fast paced and took me through several naughty experiences with Roan and Jake which left me wanting… I enjoyed the love/lust at first sight which turned into more. Can’t wait to see what happens in the sequel.

I thought that this was cute overall. I did think that Jake was a little bit over the top when dealing with his feelings for Roane, but hey, I'm not a guy so what do I know. Otherwise, I thought it was funny, sexy and engaging. I am definitely going to continue the series. I can't wait to see what's going to happen between the boys and Em.

This was really cheesy. I wouldn't say it was PWP, but it was close. It was unrealistic and the writing was in need of a good editor.

This story is a spectacular beginning to the series. Roan is so unashamed of his sexuality and is so bold, especially for being such a sensitive guy. Jake is not afraid to explore his desires, but struggles with what it means in the long run. Together, they’re sexy, sweet, and beautiful. The ending is the best part, as it is so heartwarmingly thoughtful and leads right into the next book (even if it was written before this one).

I loved the family element on Jake’s side, and just how well they take all the events that occur. Plus, we meet Caleb (Jake’s brother, the runt) who is featured in book 3, and Roan’s personal entourage who are featured in book 4. This book has an amazing story that is as hot as it is sweet, and sets the stage for the rest of the series perfectly by introducing several characters and giving us a little taste of who they are.

The Scientist and the Supermodel is a love story of self acceptance and the love of family. If you’re looking for a sexy but oh so touching read, pick this one up and you will not be disappointed!

The chance encounter of Jake and Roan while they are hiding from their problems and seeking solace in a hotel bar leaves one questioning everything he has ever known and the other wanting something that is so far out of reach that heartbreak would be easier to obtain.

I just loved Roan! He is such an easy man for anyone (with the exception of Jake) to easily and quickly realize that they love everything about him. All he wants is to share his home, life, and love with someone who will reciprocate unconditionally. He is tired of no one seeing him as a person. All people see of Roan is the beyond gorgeous supermodel, a pretty object.

This quote from Laney best describes what is going on with Jake.
“Wow. Your love life is so complicated, it make my lack of love life seem positively restful.”

Jake is confused about life, not just his love life. The fix to his love life is could easily be accomplished if her would just be honest with himself and those around him. Jake not only creates many of his own problems but he manages to complicate them. This made him such a delight to read. He is that wreck that you see happening, there is nothing that you can do to stop it, but you just have to watch it.

I feel conflicted by how the The Scientist and the Supermodel ends with the gearing up for the next book. I am well and happy with the happily ever after that Roan and Jake have. From reading the synopsis of the next book in the series and the end of this one I can see that they will get an addition to their happy. I’m not sure how I feel about that thus I’m not sure if I will move on with the series. I will definitely read more books by Tara.

So... I've had my m/m cherry popped. Well, this isn't the first time I've read about men getting it on, but it's the first time that it's been the overriding focus of the book. Most of the time when I read anything with m/m, it's part of a menage with a female. So, while Jake was in love with a woman (whom he does not have a romantic relationship with), this story was all about Jake and Roan. More precisely, it was about Jake coming to terms with his bi-sexuality.

This was a group series read or I might have skipped this one. I have too many stories including women to want to spend a bunch of time with an m/m book. I *know* m/m is very popular right now, I just haven't made that jump yet. I probably still won't at this point, but it's not a reflection on this story.

Man I wanted to smack Jake a lot of the time. While I feel like how he felt was adequately portrayed so I could sort of understand where he was coming from, how often he hurt Roan was just dick-headish. Roan had the patience of a saint. What a great, damaged guy. I was so glad he was able to experience Jake's family since his own had been so horrible to him.

I also thought it was a little humorous that everyone knew what Jake was trying so hard to hide from everyone including himself. Jake's mom was so awesome! I wonder if Em suspects as well?

I was a bit shocked at the end with the extra room in the house. I wonder how that's going to play out. Maybe I'll find out in the next one!

I loved this book, I love ROAN!!!!!! Great beginning of a new series for Lain. Jake is a genetics scientist that is at a convention and meets a "beautiful" man at a bar and cannot resist the attraction that they have for each other. Jake has always said he is straight except for some "release" needs that he got from his friend, Tom, in college. Even though it was offered by his friend, Jake takes him up on it, time and time again (even though it is obvious that Tom is in love) Jake plays stupid, which does not suit him. He falls into this again with Roan. This book makes Jake out as a "user: to me. Jake really struggled through this book about being true to himself at the expense of Roan. I almost hated Jake, but learned to love him in the end m(kinda of). He has a life time of making up to do in my eyes... but boy what a prize at the end. Everyone knows that he is avoiding the truth but him.. When finally given the final choice, he chooses wisely, but boy he almost lost the best prize, Roan. Loved Jake's family in this book, all of them. Enjoy!

This is a quick bit of fluff reading— entertaining with all the super hot people populating it like a big ole fairy tale. But so unbelievable. This is la-la-land, literally. The ending is improbable, but fits the fairy tale. I mean, Jake protested to the end that he’s a straight-shooter (ok, bisexual) and carries a torch for his (female) boss (who seems strangely oblivious to it all) and yet he had an irrevocable attraction to Roan, even as he denies it. This goes on so much that Jake's final capitulation to the sweetly patient Roan just seems abrupt and unbelievable. As does Roan’s continuing forgiveness. Jake does treat him like an easy piece of ass for most of this, and Roan just takes it. What just barely saves Jake is his awareness of being a git and trying to do something about it. Ah, beautiful people acting beautiful and silly. Fun to read about, probably not to know.

Absolutely fell in LOVE with Jake and Roan in this book! My heart went out to both men as they dealt with Jake's 'coming out'... And with the help of a much love and VERY mischievous mom, poor Jake was shocked to learn that mom's really do know everything about their children.

While there were some 'head smacking' moments, the two men were lovely together and I found myself enjoying the ride just as much as they did!

Absolutely BRILLIANT Tara!

Oh god, this was so obviously written by a straight woman. The whole relationship was so fetischied and it felt really unnatural and made me deeply uncomfortable.
Laughed out loud a lot of times though, but probably for the "wrong reasons".
I'm also pretty sure every synonym for "penis" known to man was used in this book.
I could have lived happily all my life without reading sex-scenes involving a "rod", "phallus", "joystick" etc. Unfortunately that is no longer an option for me now.

This book was laugh out loud funny, but I don't think that was intentional. Dialogue was too wooby for my tastes and sex was repetitive, but I appreciate the fact that it had an ensemble cast and women characters that existed for reasons other than getting men together or keeping them apart. When do I get an f/f featuring Alex, that's what I wanna know.

Hmm - I really enjoy reading Tara's later work but this is clearly one of her first books. I could see why Jake would lust/love Roan, but for the life of me, I couldn't work out why Roan gave Jake the time of day! Overall the story and relationship just didn't gel for me.

Pardon me while I freak out a bit here… Tara Lain has a new book out! Well, new-ish, I suppose. This time, Tara reached into her backlist and dusted off a long forgotten little gay-for-you story, polished it up a teensy bit, and released it as a self published title. I ran across this book a couple years ago, but did not have the chance to read it, so I’m super excited to have gotten my greedy little hands on it now. Honestly, I loved every moment of it. If you’re looking for a sweet romance with little angst, this is definitely the one to read.

Dr Jake Martin is in love with his boss, Dr Emmaline Silvay, but of course office romances are a no-no so he leaves it at harmless unrequited pining. Then, he ends up going to a convention in Los Angeles and in the midst of getting pleasantly toasty (after a bout of convention sex with a woman that was as satisfying for him as a leaf of lettuce for a starving person), he locks eyes with the most beautiful person he has ever seen. Queue Roan Black: male supermodel. Jake is totally Roan’s type and when he makes eye contact with the sexy scientist from across a hotel bar room, it is definitely lust at first sight. The pull each feels for the other is irresistible and it leads to steamy times in Jake’s hotel room later that night. With his mind blown, Jake goes back home to New York, wondering if he’ll see Roan Black again.

The Scientist and the Supermodel by Tara Lain is a quick, sweet read that will leave you smiling and desperately wanting the next book in the series. Normally, I am not a fan of gay-for-you, but for some reason, this one works for me. If you’re a fan of gay romance with a teensy touch of menage with a woman thrown in there for spice, then this is definitely the book for you. So glad Tara dusted this one off and re-released it as a self-published title.

A scientist and a supermodel ,you would think that they have nothing in common but these two men click and find that there is something more than just attraction in what they are feeling for each other. Roan is more than just his looks and longs for someone to see past his outside and see who he truly is. Jake may just be that man if he could only figure out what he himself wants. The two men are made for each other but they must find their way through the minefield before they can even began to look towards a happy ever after.
Jake goes through a lot of self denial and discovery as he figures out what he truly wants. He is hard to like at times and does a lot of hurt because of his confusion and denial. Roan has such a big heart and longs for things that he thinks that he will never find but one night changes everything and puts the lives of these two men on a different course. I enjoyed seeing their relationship take shape and not only did we get to see them fight for love but the supporting characters had a lot to say as well.
This story is a nice introduction to this world. It has strong characters and an engaging plot. while there were some details that I did not like overall this is a good read and I am interested in what will come next.

The Scientist and the Supermodel is book 1 of a duo. This story follows Jake coming to terms with the fact that he not only has feelings for his boss Em but he just might like men too. Roan is a supermodel who definitely knows his sexuality. When Jake and Roan meet, sparks fly. But Jake is torn in two. Will Jake and Roan make their relationship work? What about Jake's feelings for Em? Does Em have any idea that Jake is into her?

I felt bad for Jake as he tried to work through his fears. Roan was not always understanding but his frustration helped push Jake along. I had to laugh about Jake's family because they were so real. I believed Jake's confusion. I didn't feel that his fear about his job was so believable. It felt a little incomplete or maybe cartoonish. I don't really know the right word but it just didn't quite hit the mark with me.

I would recommend this story to anyone who is a fan of M/M or bisexual romance. This is contemporary set in the city and at a university. I will read the next book in the series.
