Being juniors in highschool now, Ninako, Ren and Andou are in the same class They're going to a field trip. Ninako, Ren, Ninako's friend Sayuri dan Ren's friend Yuutarou are in the same group. Ninako can't get closer to Ren because their relationship mow is "just friend"
Sayuri and Yuutarou, however, seem to have had something between them in their past. When they are alone, Yuutarou tells Sayuri... As pecial chapter about Sayuri and Yuutarou's middle school days ia also included.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still really enjoying Strobe Edge. But this volume in particular felt like a lot of spinning wheels. While I understand why Ren and Ninako aren't moving forward yet (Ren didn't feel like things were fully settled with his ex, Ninako didn't want to confess her love and lose Ren's friendship) it doesn't exactly make for compelling storytelling. One good thing that comes from it is the message (strong, but not exactly hammered home) that avoiding talking about troublesome parts of a relationship can ruin it just as surely as the trouble itself.
Review on IG: @xojazzle OK I THINK THIS WAS MY FAV VOLUME SO FAR OMG!!! The school trip chapters are ALWAYS MY FAV! I love how ren asked ninako to be in a group and their friends did whatever they could do they could get alone time heheh🫶 love supportive friends! I also just rly liked how comfortable they are with each other. Things just seem to flow so nicely for them and I just love seeing them get more comfortable and development a close bond w each other :) I think it’s so so so sweet I love it! Ren is deffff getting out of his shell more and it makes me so happy to see how much he likes Ninako. SO WHOLESOME !! I also like how we focused a lot on Sayuri in this volume I LOVE HER SO MUCH and I’m so happy there’s no trouble in paradise for her and daiki. I love them together so much <3 I rlly enjoyed learning about her past. THE BONUS CHAPTER OF HER AND YU!! So so so cute. I literally love her so much. But I can tell there’s going to be trouble for ren and ninako I feel something coming 😩😩 need to read the next volume NOW. side note: THEY MENTIONED THE KIMI NI TODOKE ANIME I FREAKED OUT JAJSJSJSSHSJ <3333
Interesting dynamics in the different friendships and relationships in this manga. I find it awesome how the author makes everything work in a nice pace. I totally appreciate what a sweet gentleman Ren actually is. There is no arrogant bone in his body. His heart is so golden. [image error]
I'm not sure why I didn't absolutely love this volume. I feel I SHOULD have because we have some ships sailing and I think this volume shows the full importance of communicating in relationships. Friendships too, but this volume focused on a different couple, which wasn't bad. I think it's because I was so deeply moved in this previous volume that this one didn't quite punch me in the feels as strong?
Don't get me wrong, there are some incredibly cute moments! This whole volume has ALL the giggly and cute feels, but I just didn't connect quite as well when I read this volume. I also still feel pretty undecided of WHICH ship i want to sail. LOL! That's fairly odd for me because usually it's one dude or the other and then wholeheartedly cheering them on the whole way, but I'm still unsure of who I want to "win."
Overall, definitely still recommend! It's sort of weird to think I'm getting near the end though.
3.5 Stars | To be honest, I like the back story of the side characters like Sayuri and Yu more than Ninako’s story. Someone please slap this girl upside the head.
Do I have to root for Ren and Ninako to end up together? Because honestly by this point I'm not sure they would be good for each other in the least. ARGH. Watching everyone struggle to grow and mature is interesting, but the whole thing is slow going, and I'm not sure I like any of the couples the way they are now. Sayuri is complicated, and honestly her love story is getting to be way more interesting.
Overall? I like this series. It's not on my "love it, need to own it" list, but it's fun reading and I'm looking forward to the next book. But the author is going to have to do a lot of convincing before I'll root for Ren right now.
Soo cute! But Ninako's questions to herself got a bit frustrating at times. Nevertheless I understand that she feels very strongly for Ren and is struggling to keep it in, especially now that he's single :P
I love how Ren is finally starting to respond, and laughed when the author herself mentioned that he was 'becoming more human'. His cute ignorance and straightforward nature is very endearing <3

This is always such an emotional series. But, seriously, the romance between Ninako and Ren is not going anywhere. She's convinced that he won't care about her, if she tells him that she wants to be more than friends. She also feels as though it would run their friendship. And, he's just starting to realize that he feels the same about her as him. I really wish that one of them would just out-and-out say how they really feel. -------------------------- I also enjoyed the extra story. Seeing the story of Sayuri and Yu's relationship as it formed helped me understand why Yu felt the way he does in the main story. I hate that he made a silly mistake, and lost Sayuri forever. I know that things, sometimes, go that way...but, I got the impression (in the main story) that he does actually still have deep feelings for her. --------------------------- This volume was provided to me as an eManga by VIZ Media, via Edelweiss, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
I really like how this series deals with breakups and real problems. It doesn't skimp out on thoughts you might not want to hear. This is what we all feel and think and do, and the mangaka captures that so wonderfully. Nothing is a fairy tale, and nothing is a complete tragedy. It just is.
This volume starts at a week into the new school year, and Ninako is still in disbelief that she gets to see Ren every day in class. From the very beginning of this volume, Ninako is reflecting on the fact that her and Ren are just friends. She feels like she has to hide her true feelings or else her and Ren couldn’t continue to be so comfortable with each other, and it keeps the other girls from being jealous and competitive with her. (I did this a few times was young with guys I liked myself)
The class is getting ready to pick groups for the upcoming class trip. The teacher directs the girls to pair up with girls and boys to pair up with boys. Ninako pairs up with Sayuri, and Ren pairs up with the new kid Yu. Then the teacher tells each pair to pair up with the opposite sex. Everyone kind of flounders here, like they aren’t sure how to go about this, and the teacher says it doesn’t matter, pick whoever you want. All of a sudden, all the girl groups look at Ren, like they’re about to attack. Ren starts to panic and instinctively reaches out to Ninako. All the other girls are disappointed, but they reassure themselves that they don’t have to worry since they are just friends. Ando is extremely upset over how things turned out.
Ren and Naniko spend a lot of alone time together on the trip, thanks to a dog chasing her. She ends up covered in mud, and Ren lends her his hoodie, which is a whole thing. The whole time Ninako keeps reminding herself they are just friends, but Ren definitely seems to care about her from our perspective.
During the school trip we find out that Yu and Sayuri used to date in Jr. high, and also Sayuri keeps seeing Daiki and another girl together, at one point it looks like he may have kissed her, but everyone reassures her that probably wasn't what actually happened, and she should talk to him, but Sayuri is afraid. Yu feels like it’s his fault she is afraid, since they broke up because he cheated on her with someone else. But eventually we find out that was a misunderstanding, and it wasn’t till after they broke up that he went out with her, and he immediately regretted it, realizing him and Sayuri were actually a good match. Yu manages to explain some of this to Sayuri, which seems to help her get the confidence to talk to Daiki, and of course we find out there is nothing going on between him and the other girl.
Ren and Mayuka meet up, she has some of his things to return. We find out she is moving for work. Ren tells her how awful he feels about everything, but Mayuka won’t let him take the blame. After they talk, it seems Ren fianlly feels better about how things ended with them.
Ren and Ninako end up walking alone together after school because they both had duties after class. They have a sweet moment when they become aware that they were both thinking the same thing at the same time, and we are reminded that isn’t the first time that has happened. Oh, we also find out Ando told Ren not to smile because he looks creepy, which sounds like BS to me. That is what someone says to make another person dim their light, but at least Ninako feels special because Ren smiles around her.
It ends with Ando and his ex-girlfriend talking, but not on the greatest terms. There seems to be the implication that she still likes Ren. Later, Ando tells Ren to be careful, but gives him no context. We also get a bonus story of Sayuri and Yu’s relationship in Jr. high, which explains a lot more about their relationship and why Sayuri acts the way she does.

So I lucked out and this became available way earlier than I was expecting it to! I was really ready to tear Daiki a new asshole when I thought he cheated. I was literally ranting when that page came up. I'm glad that it was only a misunderstanding and that Sayuri asked him instead of assuming and just leaving him. I knew that she and Yu were exes! I'm glad that he cleared up the fact that he had never actually cheated on her while they were dating and made her question if they would've still been together if they had just talked it out and said what they were feeling. I'm glad that his question gave Sayuri the extra push to confront Daiki.
I'm also glad that seeing Yu and Sayuri get closure made Ren want to reach out to Miyuka and gain closure too. I'm grateful that neither side tried to get back together and that they are on good terms with each other, despite breaking up. Seeing Ren get to say what he needed to say and apologize was really nice.
I adore how sweet Ren and Ninako are with each other. You can tell that they like each other more and more and I'm not sure how long either of them can be unaware of the other's feelings. I'm curious how they are going to learn of the other's feelings and who is gonna confess first. I think they are just really cute together. It's interesting to me that Ando already knows that him getting with Ninako is an absolute long shot. I also was fascinated hearing his reasoning for questioning Ren's feelings and wondering if they were just temporary. I want to know where the stuff with his ex, Mao, is leading. I just really trust her but at the same time, we barely know anything about her, except what Ando recalls. I feel like things are gonna get messy.
¿Me gustó?

... Yu & Sayuri. They're much more interesting than I expected. I never really thought Sayuri was that much of a "take charge" kinda girl. Well, Yu certainly screwed up. He had a really good thing & his indifference ruined it. As for who Ando was talking to at the lockers last volume, my mistake! It was Yu, talking to Sayuri! So... back to Ren & Ninako. They're growing closer all the time, yet they're both afraid to tell the other how they really feel. And that seemed like a fun school trip. It obviously was for Ren & Ninako. Will these two star-crossed lovers ever get together? Will Yu be able to move on? Will Ando give in & fully accept that he never had a chance? Who put the bop in the bop-bop-bop-she-bop? WHO KNOWS!!! As a wise man once said, "The world may never know." Let's hope that's not true in this case with our friends.
(01/23/2021) The volume revolves around a school trip, Ran and Ninako keep on developing their romance without getting together. (Ren also says sorry to Mayuka, thus, ending his personal arc with his ex)
But the main focus in this volume is Sayuri and how her past relationship with Yu, another of Rens friends, affects her. Daiki and a girl from his class seem to be...getting together and Sayuri doesn't know how to deal. Of course, it's resolved, but though the resolution was silly, I enjoyed this volume.
As a bonus chapter we get Yu's backstory with Sayuri. The way his guy friends convinced him to kill a good relationship for toxic masculinity was accurate as hell.

It’s interesting how Yu regrets breaking up with Sayuri and how Yu realizes after the fact that he did like Sayuri and not the other girl. Love is different depending on the POV. I don’t remember why Ando broke up with his ex but I wonder how she’s going to fit into all this.i feel for Ninako though. She wants to stay by Ren but wants to tell him how she feels even though she was shot down already. I’m glad that Ren and his girlfriend broke up because it seemed like they weren’t that happy.

In this volume we learn more about Sayuri & Yu's past together.
Yu was the boy who hurt Sayuri in middle school. And that hurt is keeping her from confronting Daiki about something. Will she be able to get past her hurt & be able to trust that there won't always be hurt waiting around the corner?
Ando’s being written out of this narrative and I don’t like it :( I really liked the Yu-Sayuri backstory though. Sayuri needs more attention and appreciation. We stan strong, powerful girls like her. Ninako could stand to learn a thing or, like, 10 from Sayuri.
The angst never left but we're getting closer and closer to these bittersweet feelings turning into sweet feelings between Ren and Ninako. Tsukasa and Manabu were such good wingmen when they tried so hard to ensure that Ren and Ninako would be left alone together on that trip.
