Okay, I'll admit it, I have a crazy, lust-infused crush. Brick, the sexy right-winger of the Orlando Vipers, is the star of all my erotic fantasies. Just a glimpse of him has me panting. So when the chance to actually work with this hot hockey player comes along, of course I say yes!
Being a world-class athlete myself, I have a strategic plan to have him all tied up with lust and desperate for me too. The thing is, plans never go smoothly. Especially when my heart pedals right into the vulnerable game of love again-completely unprotected.
Luckily this sinfully delicious superstar is just as hooked on me-phone sex, bondage, anal sex and rude piercings abound. Despite my tactical errors, Brick catches me when I fall, holds me when I cry and pleases me when I need it most. He's hard on the outside, soft on the inside and plays one hell of determined game when it comes to finding the ultimate satisfaction.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋💋💋 Brick is such a sweet guy , but he has such drive and passion both in the rink and in his woman . Carly has her future planned and it all revolves around Brick . Can they find each other and love . Great read . Totally different from the first book , and so refreshing.
Cross-Checked is the second book in the Hot Ice series. I started this one immediately after finishing book one, as I was already hooked. This book deals with Brick, another of the Orlando Vipers hockey team and Carly, an Olympic athlete. They meet as they're volunteering for some charity work, and we quickly learn that Carly has had a crush on Brick for some time. She's surprised to learn that he knows who she is, and that he's interested in her.
Resisting his charms, Carly's determined to keep him at arm's length until she's sure he's not just after a quick fling. However, it's not easy to keep Brick away, he's sexy and persistent, and before long the two of them have given into their passions. What follows is a really fun romp with some kink, some laughs (of the good kind!), and a healthy dollop of romance. I was totally engaged with this novel from beginning to end, I just couldn't stop reading. I loved the characters, their chemistry and their adventures, and as with the last book, this one made me immediately want to read the next one.
Overall, another brilliantly written erotic romance from Lily Harlem, one that I can heartily recommended.
Number 2 in the Hot Ice series was similar, but completely different from number 1. The similarity is the hockey team, but everything else was different. Brick has been Carly's number one fantasy for a couple of years. They meet at a photo shoot for a charity, and sparks fly. He ends up taking her home and asks for a date. Things progress from there.
This is written from the POV of Carly. She's a little bit of a control freak. She has a plan on how to keep Brick interested, but I don't think she really needed it. I think as soon as Brick saw her, he knew she was different and he was intrigued. I did get a little tired of hearing about her self doubt. She was sure he wouldn't call, she was sure he was back together with his old girlfriend, she was sure he just didn't care, she was sure he was going to leave her. But Brick kept doing the opposite of what she expected. He was incredible when she got hurt. And he showed he was vulnerable to her several times as well. They both weren't too sure what was going on, regardless of how confident Brick was.
I thought Brick was an ass in the first book, but I think he really redeemed himself in this one. I wonder if the next one will be about Ramrod? I'll watch for it!
Snagging a gold medal in the Olympics for long-distance cycling was a piece of cake for Carly, taming the bad-boy hockey player, Brick, another story entirely – or is it?
CROSS-CHECKED is told from Olympic Gold Medalist, Carly Flannigan’s point of view, so we get a really good sense of how she is feeling about being the object of Brick’s desires. I would have expected Carly to be super confident, but she proves that even world-class Olympians succumb to the occasional case of self-doubt when members of the other sex are involved. Although her lack of confidence in the love department was sometimes annoying, it made less like a character in an erotic romance and more realistic, like a real woman might behave when falling in love.
Brick brings every bit of the alpha-maleness you would expect from a hot and sexy hockey player. Honestly, I almost skipped this book because I hated him in HIRED (HOT ICE, #1), but I sure am glad I didn’t! He is bossy in that kinky, bad-boy way that lets you know he is dirty to the core…dirty talker…dirty sex…dirty HOT!
Lily Harlem brought exactly what I have come to expect from her – a great cast of characters and a deliciously erotic romance. If that’s what you are looking for, then CROSS-CHECKED just might be the book for you!
My pulse is still racing and my heart is a gooey puddle after reading this tremendous book. It's the second story of the Hot Ice series and focuses on Brick and Carly. The story held me breathless from the beginning, the romance gives you goosebumps and would melt the iciest of hearts. As for the sex, well, I've said it before and I'll say it again, Lily Harlem holds the crown and forever will as the Queen of Steam! I absolutely love, love, love the mix of romance and raunch that she writes so splendidly. I'm anxious to race on to the third book now. Copy kindly gifted by author for honest review.
Really enjoyed this series .... what more could a hockey fan ask for ... hot hockey players ... hot sex .... decent story lines and happily ever after .... yep my fantasy of a romance novel...
Read this entire series and enjoyed each of them.... I just wish there were hot hockey players like this when I was about 20 years younger.... Oh how things could have been different .. lol
another fab story from Lily! 2nd book featuring the Orlando Vipers. I love that the story was different to book 1 and look forward to seeing what is in store for book 3!
Fast read. Brick surprised me. After meeting him in book 1 I didn't think Id like him, but he turned out to be a very decent guy and I am happy Carly caught his eye.
FMC was just ridiculous. She lied about pretty much everything. What she was and wasn't doing, what she was and wasn't wearing and what she did and didn't know about Brick. It was just so wrong to be in her head with her being all fake. It was wrong on so many levels.
This series is so much lighter than I normally go for. It’s filled with fun, flirty, and interesting characters. Decent plots revolving around the players on one hockey team and lots of steamy scenes.
These two are funny together. They had a couple of moments where I laughed right out loud. She came off a little crazy/possible stalker at first, but she won me over.
Fantastic second book in the Hot Ice erotic romance series of Lily Harlem which features hockey player heroes *sigh* :-D
I enjoyed Hired, the first book in the Hot Ice series by Lily Harlem and was looking forward to the next books to discover more about the other Orlando Vipers hockey players and how they would find love. Cross-Checked is Brick’s story. We already got a glimpse of Brick in Hired and despite him being kind of an arrogant jerk there I suspected he had more to him and I had a soft spot for the young but warm-hearted and funny charmer even back then, so I was curious and excited to finally read his story.
Cross-Checked is narrated by the heroine, a respective athlete: Olympic medalist cyclist Carly. Carly has had a crush on Brick for a long time, she is obsessed with him and has an elaborate plan on how to seduce him and keep his interest hooked for longer than a quick tumble into bed. She wants Brick for more than the simple rink bunnies do. But when nothing goes according to her plan and Brick acts nothing like she expected she feels her control on the plan and his seduction slipping.
I dare every warm blooded woman not to melt when reading about Brick’s courting of Carly:
“I’ll take you home.” He grinned. “I’m going that way.” “But you don’t even know where I live.” I tugged my wrist from his grip even though having him touch me sent waves of delight over my skin. He shrugged. “Wherever you live, I was going that way.”
Despite being a huge and muscle solid man Brick has a very open and generous heart. He is playful and flirty, but underneath that easygoing charmer is a man who has depth and hidden vulnerabilities. When he spoke of his deceased father and how much he still misses him even though he hasn’t lost him recently, it made me tear up and squeezed my heart. It was surprising and sobering to see the flirty playboy become instantly intense and one could not mistake his seriousness as to his relationship with Carly.
“You’re not a game to me,” he said quietly. “When I said you were all I could think about, that you were the star of all my fantasies, I was being honest. When I thought I was coming to the hospital to identify a body and help your parents organize a funeral my world ended.” His lips squeezed together and he dragged in a deep breath. “I have never, ever in all my life wanted anything as much as I wanted you to be all right, not even last year, when I really wanted to lift the Stanley Cup.” He swallowed.
“If I hand myself over to you, Carly,” he said, softening his voice, “then you need to be there for me, don’t you get it, you’ve become my weakness. I’m a big, strong guy but if anything happened to you it would destroy me.”
I found Carly’s internal monologues a bit too sappy and her self-doubt and lack of confidence in herself and in Brick irritating, I often would have liked to shake Carly a few times to finally realize what a good man Brick was and not to miss out on her chance to be happy with him. It was nice to have a story where it was the hero who was sure of his feelings and set on the course to take their relationship further.
Verdict: Just like Hired, Cross-Checked is rather a sensual romance than erotica due to the well developed storyline, characters and emotional journey of the characters taking the main stage instead of the physical scenes.
I have to say I liked Cross-Checked even better than Hired, it was wonderfully hot and heart-warming. I love how 3D Lily Harlem makes her characters, they feel like real people and not just cardboard props in a story. A great story and series I would recommend!
Plot: 9/10 Characters: 8/10 Writing: 8/10 Ending: 9/10 Cover: 6/10 - the male model looks like a great Brick, but sadly the woman is so tramp-looking, not like Carly the athlete :-/
Carly's every fantasy is about to come true when she finally comes face to face with her bad-boy, hockey-playing obsession. In true Carly style, she takes control of the situation when it becomes clear he is also interested. Her mind is sent on a determined slow seduction of the mind versus becoming another rink-bunny notch on his bedpost. Although a one-night stand with Brick would be nothing short of electrifying, Carly's looking for more, but Brick doesn't exactly have a reputation of being tamed. Carly's controlling and untapped dominate nature is exposed and soon her weaknesses are too.
Brick played a hardcore game both on and off the ice, that is until he met Carly. Their athletic talents brought them together for charity work, but upon seeing Carly for the first time, Brick is immediately drawn to her. She charms him with her unpredictable mind and her athletically appealing body makes it hard to think of anything else. She's not his usual type and maybe just maybe that's exactly what he needs.
After reading the first book in the Hot Ice series, I was very unimpressed with Brick's character. His short role in Phoenix and Brooke's story, left me with the feeling that this wouldn't be the last that we see of him and I was anticipating the challenge that his character would no doubt bring in his own story. Therefore, I was completely surprised to see that much of the challenge and frustration didn't so much come from Brick, but from Carly herself. Of course, there are good reasons for her actions and with the story told from Carly's point-of-view, it allows the reader to experience all the surprising layers that make-up Brick.
The stories I've read by Ms. Harlem have always been entertainingly sizzling reads and Cross-Checked is no exception. The sexual tension is thick and the pacing perfectly matched for connections to form with the characters. Ms. Harlem provided a surprising epilogue, which only leaves me wanting more of the Orlando Vipers and what will no doubt be another scorching read with my favorite fictional hockey team.

After reading and loving book 3 of the Hot Ice series, I made it a point to try to get my hands on the first two books in the series. As I can attest, these books do not need to be read in order and do well as stand alones. I did enjoy meeting and getting to know Ramrod (the hero in book 3) before he met his heroine.
As with every Lily Harlem book I have read so far, it is told in the heroine's first person point of view. We know exactly what Carly is thinking and how she is feeling. I was embarrassed right along with Carly during the TV studio incident. I do understand that Carly is worried about being a one-night stand to Brick but I'm not sure I agree with some of the things that she did. This led to some rough moments and misunderstandings.
One thing I would have liked to have seen developed a bit more was why Carly has the need to drive herself so hard to succeed. It was briefly alluded to while they were at Brick's cabin in South Carolina but it was not developed or revealed.
Overall, this was a great story and it definitely has a place on my favorites shelf
This is the second book in Lily Harlem’s Hot Ice Series, and she has yet to disappoint me. The sex is hot, the characters are both damaged in a way that makes them so real and approachable, and yet the story was able to flow so quickly that the Epilogue came way too soon. Having read the full three books in this series (hopefully with more to come soon) I can tell you that Lily Harlem is someone to watch for when looking for a great book to have a lazy reading day with. Each book in this series has had characters that are so easy to relate to that they seemed like people you would meet on the street, while at the same time being fantasy enough to rev anyone one’s engine. The Hot Ice Series would make a great edition to anyone’s TBR and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for her readers in the future.
“I received this book as a review copy in return for an honest review” Cross-Checked is the second book in the Hot Ice Series by Lily Harlem. Another great one by Lily. When you first meet “Brick” in Hired he comes off all wrong. I am so glad Lily straightens us out with the lovable Brick. He just puts it all out there and you just want to hug the big man well maybe more than just hug. ;) Carly finally meets the man she has been wanting for some time now all thanks to a photo shoot. Do you believe in love at first sight? Well check out Cross-Checked to see how it happens! Sorry I didn’t give you much but I don’t want to spoil it, but it is so worth the time and money. I can’t wait to read book three Slap Shot...
“Cross-Checked” is the second in the Hot Ice series. Expect more first person narrative… HOT sex… some piercings, anal, etc… but really what I couldn’t get past the STALKERISH feel of the female character. I mean, at points, I kept wondering if there was going to be some big twist where we hadn’t met the romantic counterpoint yet because we were “hearing” the story through the stalker’s point of view. Um, if you take that out of the equation – well, I don’t know. I still can’t get past it.
I’m now reading Slap Shot: 3 (Hot Ice). Will let you know what I think when I get through it… Share Some Snark!
I was kindly gifted this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Cross-check is the 2nd book in the hot ice series and, although similar to book 1, its completely different. It's extra hot. I absolutely love it. Lily Harlem is an amazing author and this series is a must read. I completely feel in love with brick and carly. The chemistry between them is electrifying and you can feel it seeping from the pages. Their road to happiness is not an easy road to travel. Lots of confusion, misunderstandings and great sexual encounters. Does Carly and Brick get their happily ever after?? Read and find out :)
"I received this book as a review copy in return for an honest review" Cross-Checked (Hot Ice, Book Two): Hot Ice Series, Book 2 , i reaaly liked reading this one , its so different from the book one , its like a sweetvalley high crossed erotic series which i really enjoyed cant wait to have the pleasure of reading book 3 , i take my hat off to the author Lily Harlem
"Carly doesn’t want to be another notch on the belt for Brick but when she begins to second guess herself, trouble ensues. Will Brick be the man to catch her?"
Thanks to Bianca and Lily, I now have a strong interest in hockey. Ben, aka Brick and Carly duel it out in a battle of whit, desire and insanity as they navigate their explosive emotions for each other.
Disappointing after the first book was so good!! I just couldn't connect with Carly, she's so conniving. I kept waiting for her to be like "oh and I'll get his money too!" just didn't feel right to me.
Oh the mental games these characters play with each other. Truly great writing and character development in this book. The author has a gift for bringing the characters to life. Hot and steamy and a piercing, what?
