Noted Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani gracefully elongated lines of his portraits, including Reclining Nude (1917).

Amedeo Clemente Modigliani, an artist of Jewish heritage, practiced and pursued his career for the most part in France. He began his artistic studies before moving to Paris in 1906. Circle of friends and associates, a range of genres and movements, and primitive art influenced nonetheless unique and idiosyncratic œuvre of Modigliani. Poverty, overworking, and an excessive use of alcohol and narcotics exacerbated tubercular meningitis, from which died young in Paris.

Features a chronicle of the artist and then a collection of his paintings. Most are abstract portraits and some are bare and bold. this type of art was on its way out due to photography. Insightful

Beautiful art. Beautiful plates. Interesting essays. A chronology, short bios of the key players in the life of Modigliani. A sweet coffee table book you can actually lift with one hand and cuddle.
