These books never fail to make me laugh and cringe at the same time. However, I binged it. It was concerning the pace at which I was reading. It was funny as hell, and yet, I still wanted to kick and yell at everyone in here.

I kind of missed reading these kind of books. I'm a big ass fan of the supernatural/paranormal vibes and academy like books. They're entertaining and interesting, I like the paranormal species and how they develop. To be honest, these series are getting "better".

C.C. Hunter wrote an amazing sequel to Born at Midnight. Everything I loved about Born at Midnight was present in Awake at Dawn. Awake at Dawn is absolutely unputdownable. I read this book in record time. I got up an hour early in the morning to read, I read on the bus on my way to class, I even ignored my friends at break time in order to immerse myself in Kylie's story.

Awake at dawn is a delightful read with a plot full of twists and turns, genuine emotions that reach your heart and make you helpless against loving the characters. Every character in this series is just so alive, their personalities are so strong, it feels like you're reading about your own friends and enemies. No character is unnecessary, each and every one of them plays a major role in Kylie's life (positive and negative).

Kylie's friends, Miranda and Della, with their clashing personalities, their kindness and devotion to Kylie provide the book with many delightful moments, and gut wrenching ones too. And Holiday along with Burnett is such a positive role model for all the kids at camp. The relationship between the two camp leaders (business and personal) adds to the richness of the book. Kylie's relationship with Holiday was especially heart warming. Holiday filled the role of a supportive big sister perfectly.

Kylie herself is a wonderful main character, with kindness that she offers even to those who in my opinion don't deserve it. All her emotions and reactions are so genuine and realistic I found myself crying when she did, laughing when she did. She's a wonderful example of a teen trying to find herself and to define her role in this world. She’s long from figuring all that out, but despite all the hurdles that are thrown in her way she stays true to herself, even in the most difficult situations.

Now, what to say about the boys...Oh, the boys. I have to admit I was leaning heavily toward Derek in this book and rooted for him. For once I wanted the kind and loving character, who is always there for the girl, to in the end win her over. And just as I was set on wanting Derek and Kylie together, C.C. Hunter added Lucas and his charmingly honest personality to the mix, leaving me yet again undecided about the love issue.

Without a doubt, Awake at Dawn is worth buying, reading and displaying it on your bookshelf. The third book (and hopefully not the final book), Taken at Dusk is one of my most anticipated books in the year of 2012.

Born at Midnight was a great start to this series. I liked the writing, and even though Kylie was boring sometimes, it was still enjoyable. I didn't like certain things about it, like the shallow romance, and the mistery about what Kylie was.
I hoped that, in Awake at Dawn, those things would develop, and we'd get to know a lot more about Shadow Falls. I can say, for sure, that this didn't happen.
Well, to start with, Kylie doesn't know what she is. She spends the first half of the book searching for answers, and when she doesn't get them, she starts to look for her grandparents. And big surprise, this research leads us nowhere. I get it that the autor wants a suspense, but it's boring. I can't stand another internal crisis, with Kylie wondering what she is, and being completely broken by it. Seriously, get a grip. Strong female characters are one of the things that attract me in a book, and someone who just complains about the lack of answers and does little about it isn't appealing.
The romance is also disappointing. Kylie likes Derek, but can't give her heart to him because she still thinks about Lucas (the shape-shifter who left the camp for unknown reasons). And, of course, when Lucas comes back, her whole frame shakes and her pulse speeds up at the sight of him, while at the same time, she tries to fall in love with Derek. Love triangles are great, as long as they are well-written. And this one wasn't. It was a mess of feelings and impulses, and I still don't understand Kylie's preferences.
Lucas, apparently, is supposed to be charming, and a badboy. I got the impression he's a jerk covered with sweet words. He leaves the girl, knowing that she may have feelings for another man, comes back later and expects to find her waiting for him. And when she hesitates, he tries to win her by making her remember how their love is amazing.
Oh, and did I mention that while he was gone, Kylie dreamed about them making out? And that the dreams aren't just a fragment of her imagination, but a psychic ability?
Not to mention that every 20 pages or so, Kylie talked to Holiday about every single thing that happened with her. Yes, she wanted to have a friend and yes, it's great to have heart-to-heart conversations, but with the camp leader? I know I wouldn't open up and spill all my problems in front of the principal of my school, no matter how many times she tells me I'm her friend.
Another disappointment was Miranda and Della. Yes, Della being a vampire and Miranda being a witch really makes their friendship that much harder, but the constant fight between the two of them was really childish. There wasn't even an argument, just constant insults. My point is, wanna make a troubled friendship? Fine. But make it believable.
One of the things I liked about Awake at Dawn, though, was Kylie's relationship with her mother. The way they cared about each other was great, and there was a specific part of the book that I really enjoyed. However, while their love was great, the change of personality in her mother was obvious. It could have been more subtle.
I really hate to write negative reviews. I do. But my mind was going to explode in frustration when I finished this book. I know others may have loved it, but it was ... not so good for me. I'm still going to read Taked at Dusk, though. I'm hoping it'll get better.

Well, I won't be continuing this series. The issues I had with the first book, became even more glaring in Awake at Dawn. My main two issues were -

The pace seemed to drag even more.
"....I mean, if I understand this right, someone is going to die. Actually die and it’s not going to be an easy death, either.” All the problems in Kylie’s life started bouncing around her head like ping-pong balls. Tears filled her eyes. It still hurt to think about her grandmother’s funeral—she couldn’t lose someone else. “Failure isn’t an option.”

I continually felt as though I kept getting pulled out of the story. It didn't seem to hold my interest, and when I would put the book down, I didn't have the urge to pick it back up. On top of that, I wasn't the biggest fan for how the storyline proceeded. It wasn't a path that held by interest, which made me feel so sad.

I'm not happy with the love triangle.
He leaned closer. “I’m patient, Kylie. I’ve waited eleven years for you. I can wait until you’re ready.”

Again, it's being dragged out. Just like the pace. So by the end of the book, there was definitely a clear winner. Or I guess it would be better to say that Kylie had more of a connection to one of the guys than the other. Which made me ecstatic, yet Kylie put it all on pause. It was not moving forward, even by that last page, and it left me feeling irritated. I'm not a fan of love triangles being stretched out, and this one definitely was.

I usually don't stop in the middle of a series, I can be a little neurotic and need to know how it all ends. Even if I'm not a huge fan. But I went and sneaked a peak at the next few books, to make for sure that I was making the correct decision. And what I saw definitely solidified my reason to stop this series now. All my issues kept appearing in the next few books. So I'm done and walking away. While I'm sure there are plenty of people who will love or have loved this series, unfortunately I just can't be one of them.

I would like to just say I NEED MORE LUCAS! Okay so you might guess I am a total hot werewolf fan. While I loved every minute he was in this book, I would like more, lots and lots more!!

Awake at Dawn is a fantastic sequel. All of our favorites are back and just as loveable as before. Its just a fun new series with an amazing set of characters, one hot werewolf (okay the fairy is too, lol) and lots of mystery. Kylie is still trying to figure out what supernatural she really is. Now she is gaining all these new talents and turning into one bad ass supernatural (whatever that might be) but nothing is clear, is she a werewolf, vampire, shape-shifter or something completely different?

I must say Awake at Dawn is addicting. Somewhere close to the middle, I knew I had to finish that day or I would not be able to sleep. I needed my answers and I just knew if I waited a little longer I would get some Lucas action. C.C Hunter really brings these characters to life and you feel like you know them. You have her two best friends: a take no crap vampire Della, and a little not to sure of herself witch Miranda, both are always there and you feel such a connection. Then there is her two boys, sensitive and loveable fairy Derek, then hot and mysterious Lucas who will have you totally teaming them up. Not to mention Holiday, Perry her mom and the ghosts who play important rolls.

Lets just say if you like a fun supernatural read with an awesome set of characters and a story that keeps you guessing, well you are going to love Awake at Dawn!

3,5 stars / 5.

This sequel was far more interesting than the first "Shadow Falls" novel; especially in the beginning. But in the middle it was just a long process where little concrete things were happening.
Kylie Galen met another ghost now, a woman. One that kept telling Kylie that someone dear to her will die soon and that she has to save that person. But Kylie didn't knew exactly who she refers to.

Kylie goes to the waterfall, but no big deal is happening. She is trying to find her grandparents; to see what supernatural creatures they are. Because not even in the sequel we aren't going to find out what is she. At the end, though, we can imagine. We can see her throughout the novel growing; her body, at least. She even grows stronger.

But anyway... again, you need to be very patient with the novel and certain parts of it, because it goes slowly. The story itself is a very interesting one; it kept me curious. It's just that it is very slow and the revealing moments aren't all that good or "wow". But overall, it was a good read, and let me tell you, that ending...

There were things that I didn't fully understood, but they don't affect me liking the book too much. It had much more mystery than the first one as far as I can remember, so enjoy this.

*Sorry for my repetitive review. I am really tired right now.*

Awake at Dawn picks up where BaM leaves off with many more questions, a whole new ghost and reeling from the last eat drama which is also what AaD leaves us at the end as well.

Kylie is going through more supernatural changes whilst mending her relationships with her parents and trying to decide between Derek and Lucas (what a dilemma to have!).

We’ve been introduced to the main villain of the series now - finally

And Kylie is getting closer and closer to finding out what she is and her birth father’s family.

Also there’s more sexual tension between Miranda and Perry plus Holiday and Burnett.

Saying I was thrilled when Awake at Dawn arrived on my doorstep would out it lightly. I was beyond thrilled because after finishing Born At Midnight I was in love with the story, the characters and CC's writing. I devoured Awake at Dawn in one day and needless to day I was sad when it was over...

We are back in Shadow Falls with Kylie, her great friends, the boys and the camp leaders. Kylie still has no clue who she is and what she will become other than knowing and finally accepting her ghost-whispering gift.
But she is still confused and desperately wants to know who and what she is.
With Lucas gone, she's drawn even closer to Derek who never hided his deep affection for Kylie. But other Love stories and romances unfold during the story. There is Miranda and her crush on Perry the powerful shape shifter and there is Holiday the camp leader and the Vampire...

In Awake at Dawn friendships and relationships, that have been formed in Born At Midnight grow deeper and more meaningful and I loved seeing this. The unusal friendship between Della, Miranda and Kylie is beautiful. The girls fight and piss themselves off ever so often but in the end they love each other and are truly loyal.

Kylie grows and comes slowly to terms with being supernatural and not "normal" anymore. Still, deep down she's lonely since she still is no step further about discovering her true self. But in Awake at Dawn we will see Kylie grow even more exceptional than she already is and there are a few twists and turns you might not expect that were truly intriguing.

Kylie and the boys... Oh My.. the boys! Lucas is gone and Derek is there trying to get Kylie's full attention, but she's still reluctant to fully commit to Derek. She stands herself in the way of letting her emotions loose, but on the other side there is still Lucas in her mind...

I admit, I fell for Lucas in Born At Midnight but now I am so very torn. Derek really really grew in this book and I crushed hard on him here... He's sexy, hot, sweet, cute and ..did I say hot? I remember CC saying that people who are Team Lucas might change their mind after reading Awake at Dawn... well she didn't promise too much. I still love Lucas (a lot!!) but now, I'm torn between those two hot boys, just like Kylie...

I also very much love the deep connection she has with Holiday the Camp leader. They are more than just "teacher" and "student" she's more than a sister and I loved that Kylie had someone she could confide to ...

Awake at Dawn was full of growing relationships, friendships, love and romance. Following Kylie's journey to discover her true self was wonderful and I loved every minute I spend with Kylie and the others. This will be a series that will have a place in my heart with characters I deeply care for and love. I can't wait to learn more about Kylie, I can't wait to see who she will choose and I can't wait to hear more about Holiday, Miranda, Perry and Della.. Is there a place for me in the Shadow Falls camp? ...

“Life isn't supposed to be easy. Generally speaking, the harder something is the more rewarding the results will be.”

This is one of series that seem to get better with each book. I am glad I decided to read this one.

In this book a new ghost starts to visit Kylie and warns her that someone she loves will die soon, but Kylie does not understand whom she has to save.
Moreover, there is the problem with vampire attacks and her supernatural identity. The hints are all contradictory and Kylie is more and more confused. The boy-problem seems rather harmless in comparison with the ghost and the vampire attacks, but all of these problems really bother Kylie.
“What you are doesn't matter. Because what you are isn't going to change who you are.”

Kylie is a very sympathetic character. She is like an angel of peace, who helps Holiday and Della and Miranda with their problems and does not bother anyone with her own worries.
Kylie is determined and very humorous and I really like her in this book, while I did not like her in the first book.
Della and Miranda are both loyal and hilarious persons. They are worth Kylie, together they are a real dream-team when Miranda and Della don't fight.
I don't really like Derek, he seems to perfect and too soft to me. Besides, his words and actions are often contradictory. A point in favor of him is that he accepts Kylie no matter who she is and how she is, he just wants her to be honest and sure about her feelings.
Lucas is absent most of the time but when he appears he is very confident and caring and possessive. He is more of a real man in contrast to Derek.
“When we care about people, we sometimes overstep our grounds.”

I honestly do like this book much more than the first one thanks to all the surprises and turning points and contradictory hints and feelings the characters have.

Now after reading this one I am totally looking forward to read the next books!
This book is perfect for all the House of Night fans, and those who love YA-fantasy series.

Second time reading, first time reviewing!
I really like this series. The different kinds of supernaturals and the mystery of what Kylie is exactly. I also enjoy the love triangle between Lucas and Derek. They're both good guys and if this were an adult book, I'd want a reverse harem lol.
The characters are cute, especially the friendship between Kylie, Miranda, and Della. They care about each other and even if they don't always get along, they'll do anything to help the others out. The narrator also did a good job, especially with Kylie's Texas accent. It's there but not so much that it bugs me.

We discover more about Kylie's abilities in this one, which makes things more interesting, but also a little unbelievable. It did get a little tiring that it was so obvious what the ghost wanted her to do, but she was so obtuse about it. These books are a good escape read. If you can get past things being a little predictable, and the sex-shaming, they do have some fun elements.

Kylie doesn’t know what she is. Kylie kisses a boy. Kylie has a sudden not-so-climatic event. Kylie still doesn’t what she is. Kylie is at the end of book two.
For me, that was exactly what it was like reading this book. I remember I complained about the fact that Hunter didn’t use first person in the first installment of this series and unfortunately I have to do it again. In my opinion, if you’re going to write in third person, you should write in a way that your characters name isn’t repeated in almost every sentence because it’s very distracting and highly annoying especially when you’ve chosen to give your character a name like Kylie (not that Kylie is a horrible name but say it over and over and over again and you’ll never want to hear it again). Also, I am definitely NOT a genius when it comes to grammar but I’m pretty sure that I came across several editing issues because they made my brain stutter and I had to go back and reread to make sure that there really was a word missing or misspelled and I hadn’t completely lost my mind. There were also a few times that Hunter added words into Kylie’s vocabulary or made her say things in a way that I don’t think matched her usual voice or style. For example, once she made her think, Gawd, to herself. For one, no one say GAWD! Not even us southern folks and certainly not Kylie.
I’m not saying this story was horrible. I’m sure a teenaged girl would love all the supernatural characters and reading about their different abilities and such, I did. However, it seemed to drone on and on about things that after a while I didn’t find so interesting because it was basically the same things that the first book droned on and on about. Kylie doesn’t know what she is. Ok. I get it. She wants desperately to find out. OK. Let’s do that. And she does but it’s only a little bit here and there without really doing anything significant or intriguing. And do we have to play out the entire conversation about the exact same thing that she has with Holiday in every single chapter? I also thought the character took it a little too far with, “I can’t kiss Derek because I don’t know what I am, I can’t not kiss Derek because I don’t know what I am, I can’t make up my mind between Derek and Lucas because I don’t know what I am….”
Ok, NEXT! I thought the idea behind the bloody ghost that kept visiting her played out pretty well. I was actually expecting something a little different. The surprise was taken away with all the extras the closer it got to the reveal but I guess it was necessary. As for the not-so-climatic event I mentioned earlier… I really don’t know what else to say about it. There were no surprises, no twists, no turns. It was pretty cut and dry.
I wouldn’t tell people not to read this series because there are some things that are interesting, just not intriguing. I am curious to find out what Kylie is, although right now it feels like Hunter is making up a character that isn’t realistic not even in this paranormal world because of her little-bit-of-everything status. As if she’s some freaky hybrid or something. We don’t drop our characters in vats of toxic wastes anymore…. So, why make them a hybrid, nonrealistic anomaly?

P.S. I LOVE Della!

This is a nice sequel. Though I still prefer the first book.

It's still funny and adventurous and full of teen dramas.... which gets a bit annoying at times.

Kylie is still trying to discover what she is. Is she a vampire? werewolf? shapeshifter? fairy? She's still confused with her feelings for Derek and Lucas but decided to give Derek a chance. And I must agree with Lucas, Derek is an idiot. Derek is patient and understanding guy BUT what the hell was he thinking?!? As for Lucas I'm getting fond of him after Derek's stupid decision.

It's easy to connect with Kylie and the book is always on the go. Never a dull page.

Loved it!
I liked the story and the characters so much!
I didn't even care about the love triangle! OK, I have to admit that for some reason I prefer Lucas (he's more mysterious) from Derek (he's just a nice guy).
Kylie is a very interesting character! She is a good and true friend, smart and funny and a typical teenager. I was happy to see that she has a better relationship with her mother because I have to admit that I like her mother a lot!
Also, I really like Della and Miranda and I hope to see Miranda with Perry!
But my favorite people are Holiday and Burnett! They have great chemistry!!!
Can't wait to read the next one!!

After reading the first book in the series, Born at Midnight, I just had to read the second book because of the cliff hanger that was presented. Awake at Dawn was a mystical book that once again brought me back to shadow falls, a camp full of supernatural creatures. The protagonist Kylie Galen still isn’t able to figure out what type of supernatural creature she is and she is determined to find out. Although she might just look like a teenage girl on the outside the power she holds within her is far stronger than anyone in the camp. Throughout the book the reader is exposed to more of Kylie’s powers. It seems as though her power matures along with her. At the beginning of the camp she is confused and doesn’t understand the supernatural creatures that exist in the world. Although she is one, she was isolated from the rest. But as time passes in the camp, she realizes their existence and hers. I feel like because she was able to accept who she is her powers began to show more frequently. She goes on different searches to figure out what lies within her. With each path she takes a new truth is opened to her. Helping ghost is just a mere part of her powers. She can dreamscape and when she thought that the werewolf counselor had done harm to her mother, the strength of her power is shown as she was able to take down a werewolf. Same goes when Lucas (her werewolf crush) was locked up by rogue vampires when coming to save her, she broke down a concrete wall to save him. Confused about her powers and told she was a protector (one who has the powers to protect others but not herself) she searches for her biological grandparents from her dad’s side (she doesn’t know them) to give her some answers.

Kylie is a fascinating character with great potential. She is someone you can depend on but sometimes I feel as if she makes the wrong decisions. She is so determined to find out who she really is she is oblivious to what is in front of her. She pushes aside her friends and her potential boyfriend(s) and takes the dangerous road that might not even have the answers. I really like her character, strong and protective, but I think she needs to just be a teenage girl and worry less about her powers and more about her life with friends and family. Miranda and Della are very caring friends, although they want to rip each other’s head off, they are always there for Kylie and I think it is time for Kylie to spend more time with them instead of figuring out the unknown. The answers will arrive sooner or later and she just needs to be patient. Overall i don't really see her character change from the first book because she is still confused as ever. Although she accepted being different, she doesn't know "what" she is or who to choose as her boyfriend! :)

Additionally this book incorporates romance as well. Should Kylie pick a half fae or a werewolf? I think she should pick Lucas the werewolf. Derek is sweet and kind but Lucas is all she thinks about. Lucas is the one she meet when she was little, the one who protected her, the one who will risk changing his bloodline just to love her. It bothers me that she cannot choose one or the other when it is obvious who she really likes. This book basically has everything a fantasy reader would want. The supernatural, the romance, the action and the mystery so I would recommend this book – IT IS AWESOME.

**3.5 stars**

I don't really know what to say. It was fun, easy to read, had some nice friendships and an improving mother/daughter relationship. Some of the imagery was beautiful, for example "Kylie popped up from her chair and shot out of the dining room like someone wearing white and in desperate need of a tampon."......

Jokes aside, it wasn't terrible. There was far too much relationship drama and if we don't find out what Kylie actually is by the end of the next book, I can see myself becoming rather irked. Also the ending was so rushed it felt like - the end event literally started and finished in less than 20 pages.

I read it quickly though and found myself reading big chunks at once so it's obviously a bit addictive, right?

OH my goodness I LOVE this cover<333 I can't wait for this book! Come quickly!!! <3

______________

Fantastic sequel! I loved every part it. I loved discovering what Kylie was discovering, feeling what Kylie felt, and watching her grow. I have to admit, boy wise, I was Team Lucas after Born At Midnight. But, now, after Awake At Dawn, I am kind of split. Derek is just the all around great guy, with sexy green eyes and then there's also Lucas who you can't help but loving. ARRRGGG I'm not sure who I want her with. But I do know, I cannot wait for the next one... I'm dying to know what happens next!

No se porque este libro me gusto mas que el primero si son practicamente iguales
◆¿descubri lo que es Kayle o alguna pista? NO
◆¿un poco mas de accion? NO
◆¿el famoso Lucas aparecio mas? NO
