If you've checked out my Diners, Drive-ins and Dives books or visited my restaurants, Johnny Garlic's and Tex Wasabi's, you know I'm down with all types of good food—and that I'll do what's required to track it down. In Guy Fieri Food , I'm cookin' it my way, from the perfect recipe for Pepper Jack Pretzels (from Mr. Awesome Pretzel himself—that's me) to how to pull together a Red Rocker Margarita Chicken sandwich to a full-on vegetable Guy'd (bet you didn't see that one comin'!). Before I'm finished I'll have you throwing parties with everything from Bacon-Jalapeno Duck appe-tapas to Chicago Beef Pizza to Johnny Garlic's Cedar Plank Salmon.
Fact is, I've been cookin' it, livin' it, and lovin' it since I was just a kid, and it's a privilege to help you bring home some of my own classic, big, and bold flavors.
Guy Fieri is an American restaurateur, author, television personality, and game show host. He co-owns five restaurants in California and is widely known for his television series on the Food Network.
By mid-2010, the Food Network had made Fieri the "face of the network." In 2010, the New York Times reported that Fieri brought an "element of rowdy, mass-market culture to American food television," and that his "prime-time shows attract more straight male viewers than any others on the network."
I love Guy Fieri. He seems like a really good son, brother, friend. A good guy. I enjoyed the chatty parts, and the recipes. Cute pictures, family anecdotes, finding that the "cartoonish" Guy comes from humble roots and remains a humble man, strong community leader, who's top priority is as husband and dad. Immediately on my menu to try..Louisiana BBQ Shrimp. There's some very different and good looking pizza recipes here as well. I make my own marinara and Italian dishes with my eyes closed, so unfortunately he didn't really teach me anything in the pasta section. A fun read, good food...get reading and cooking !
I love this "Guy". When I saw him on the Next Food Network Star, I thought he had no more chance than I did. But, I was wrong. He is great. This cookbook, besides having great recipes, has a good intro all about his life as a restaurateur. Very interestingly told in the pov of his parents, restaurant partner and other people.
The road to Flavor Town is not a difficult road to take, but a righteous one instead. Filled to brim with 100% Guy Fieri personality, this book can't be considered to be just a cookbook because he recalls parts of his childhood and early culinary career and ties them in with his recipes. It's the type of book where you want to read it in the author's voice and style, like me, because of the unique word choices like "out of this world", "a round house kick to your taste buds", "out of bounds", and more. Overall, this book is absolutely excellent. Who wouldn't want to hang out with this "Guy"?
I don't give 5 starts unless the book is perfect, so that's why it's 4 stars, but if I had to pick a weak point it would be the type of food. Guy Fieri is the type of guy that loves unique, crazy food (as long as it's edible), so it makes sense that most of the items appear as party food. I would love to try out some of the recipes, since I love to cook, but I doubt I'm going to be cooking 50 appetizers. Furthermore, I had to skip the 20-some alcoholic beverages that filled the entire drinks category.Out of all the recipes, I would like to try his Cajun chicken Alfredo and the garlic bread recipe the most. Anyways, that's all we have for this funky review, I'll see y'all next time on memoirs, mangas, and magazines.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book although I probably won’t make many of the recipes. Recipes are interspersed with short stories and family photos. As a GGG fan, it’s fun to read about Guy’s career path, dedication to his family and passion for making, sharing and promoting good food and good people. The book style and layout is one of a kind—most of the art is by his personal tattoo artist! Fun read.
I'm a huge Guy Fieri fan. Decided to flip through his cookbook and give it a go. A lot of the recipes are pretty complicated and above me, but I did get a couple that I'd love to try.
Once I get more comfortable with actual cooking (I'm more of a baker), hopefully I'll be able to try even more of these delicious looking recipes.
In all fairness, the people that rated this book negatively either didn't read it, or didn't try any recipes in it. In fact, a couple of them even admit it. I loved this book, but I enjoy cookbooks that offer more than just recipes. It was nice reading about his history and how he got to where he is today, and it's nice reading the history of some of the recipes. I've never made one of his recipes that didn't turn out out to be over the top delicious! I've been making the Grilled Romaine With Blue Cheese and Bacon for years. It's my "show off" salad for when we grill out with friends. I always end up sharing the recipe.....It's got blue cheese and bacon for heaven's sake!! The Saigon Subs, the Ginger Carrot Soup and the Cajun Chicken Alfredo are all amazing...... I haven't even made it to the pork section yet.
Some of the recipes do call for a lot of ingredients, but the creative blend of ingredients is what makes the recipes so good. Never judge a recipe by it's ingredients! If you can't afford making those kinds of dishes all the time, then try them every now and then when you have friends over, or instead of going out, have date night in the kitchen where you both cook together, then enjoy it with a cribbage game or a Netflix movie.
They say that good food needs to be visual....I say the same for a cookbook. This book is loaded with pictures! If you want to make simple, few ingredient recipes for your everyday meals, then buy a Betty Crocker cookbook. But if you want to see your friends faces light up as they shout "oh my gawd!" Then this is the book for you.
The food in this book would make this a 5-star cookbook for me - on a day I was boozing, and the day after, hungover. (Providing the food was prepared in advance!) This stuff is straight-up party food; not classy, not fancy. It's all very... Fieri. (Don't get me wrong, the food in here looks tasty, and it would probably change my life and bring me over to the Guy team if I ate it... while drunk.)
Okay, so I don't really care for Guy Fieri - he comes of as such a creepy douche (sorry) on TV. If you're a Fieri fan, then you will love this book: it's got a lot of background and childhood pics of the guy, and he talks a lot about his cooking experiences. Nearly every recipe seemed easy enough to do (the only exceptions for me were to do with deep-frying since I don't own a deep-fryer, and the recipes with duck. He does a lot of stuff with duck! If I got my hands on some duck, I would cook something MUUUUUCH fancier with it than BLT sandwiches, fried rice, etc...).
I hate the way his annoying mannerisms come through in the book. EX: "It'll give your taste buds a round-house kick!"
I do like that he has a couple pitcher cocktail recipes in the back, though!
Date nights at the Walton House usually involve snuggling on the couch, eating popcorn, and watching Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. Each of my kids know this man by face. They know his name. They have been known to say phrases like "off the hook", "flavortown", and "winner, winner turkey dinner" without being prompted. In short, we love this "Guy"! I loved this cookbook, too! I am so glad that it included stories about his past, his culinary upbringing, and introduced me to the team behind his shows. It was also fun to read about his Next Food Network Star journey and see pre-bleached hair photos. The recipes themselves are in general a little too rockstar for this Mormon mama, and most have extensive lists of ingredients, but I suspect that any I do make will be amazing. I am really looking forward to preparing the coconut rice and cilantro. This was a fun book!
“Guy Fieri Food” is a big, bold , colorful volume, musch like the author himself. Fieri writes about his lifelong love of food and tells stories about his family and friends. He started with a pretzel cart when he was a child, opened a restaurant “Johnny Garlic” and became a fixture on television food shows. Many of the recipes feature frilled meats, bacon, and hot peppers. There’s bacon-wrapped shrimp with chipotle BBQ sauce, banana pepper sauerkraut, and penne with Cajun hot links and chipotle shrimp. Not all the recipes are so over-the-top. There are also some with interesting flavors, but lighter on the heat and the meat. Like pepper jack pretzels, coffee bananas foster, and watermelon pork tacos.
Interesting background on Guy Fieri- actually his story was my favorite part of the book! The recipes were much too fussy to fix for my family (pretty sure that the veggie burgers would have been a hit for me- but not for the kids!), but if I had an infinite amount of time, money, and energy, I would have loved to try a few. The simplest recipe I found was one for Onion Rings. It would have been easy enough to make, and probably tasty, but it doesn't fit within my diet currently, so this book went back to the library without me taste testing anything.
Awesome cookbook! I didn't know where to begin when I saw all the good recipes in this colorful book. It's great that it starts with talking all about how Guy Fieri grew up and how he got into cooking and starting restaurants. Great stories...rambunctious and outgoing, like Guy himself. He has a wonderful way of talking about food and putting it together, until you can't wait to get cooking and taste the food for yourself. I highly recommend you read this one, and you're especially lucky if you can get your own copy.
I love his Diners, Drive-ins and Dives show because he is so energetic and committed to finding interesting places that you wouldn't necessarily find on your own. That's how we ended up at Brandi's Restaurant in Flagstaff, Arizona that makes yummy garlic fries, pastries and an amazing Mexican hot chocolate with espresso. Guy makes some awesome comfort food in this cookbook and I like how he takes simple recipes and "kicks things up a notch (to quote Emeril Lagasse)."
This is more that a cookbook, it is a casual biography of Guy Fieri's life. I got so much out of reading the stories about Guy, his sister, his family. They made a lot of the recipes come together. I know know more about where he is coming from and it add a little something to the dish.
The "Bring It On Brisket" is a variation on a dish my grandfather used to cook at his diner right by CBS studios in Los Angeles, not only did Guy jazz it up, he brought back great memories.
I hate Guy Fieri. I'm kinda not allowed to watch his shows, cause I get all mad and yell at the TV. Oh, I think Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives is okay....as long as it's on mute.
This cookbook would be good for the dude-bro, Sammy-Hagarish, tool kind of home cook. Guy certainly doesn't cook the type of food that I cook, but he wrote decent-ish recipes. I'd skip over all the dumb stuff about his life. It's pretty boring.
I really didn’t expect to like this book all that much. While I like Guy Fieri his personality is a bit too much for me at times, so I take his shows in short bursts. Reading this I’ve got much more respect for him as a person because he’s more real now and not just a ‘personality’. There were quite a few really recipes and the insights into his life read well and really gave you a feel for the people and atmosphere
I didn't think all of the recipes were really that accessible for the typical American kitchen. Many of them either didn't appeal to me, required expensive/hard to find ingredients, or were just odd combos.
I do have about 10 recipes starred that I'd like to try.
Overall, I enjoyed his step-by-step photos of how to deal with cuts of meat more than the actual recipes themselves.
Guy Fieri Food is an absolute must for any Fieri fan. He'll have you throwing parties with everything from Bacon-Jalepeno Duck appetapas to Chicago Beef Pizzas!
I bought this because I've grown up watching Guy on TV and wanted to be able to cook just like him. While my cooking skills are not up to par with his, it doesn't stop me from attempting these recipes and being happy when I pull it off!
This book is phenomenal. I found it at the library and it is now a must have to my growing cookbook shelf. The recipes are delicious. The biographical parts are well written. Great pictures of the food and fantastic tattoo-style artwork through out. It's a pleasure to just page through.
I really enjoy Guy himself but I doubt I'd make many of these recipes. Not entirely my style. But I enjoyed the information on Guy and a lot of the recipes look good, but no duck, no deep fryer, so no dice. Still a good read and some good ideas.
Definitely unique recipes and dishes I never thought of. Most have an accompanying picture to show the finished dish which I really like. This book just contains a lot of dishes I would never make but there are a few I will definitely try.
This is the first cook book I've read cover to cover. That's because it also Guy's autobiography, and full of great stories about his growing up years, his early restaurant years and his youthful adventures. The recipes look great, but a bit complicated for me. A fun read.
Off da chain this book is dunkey sauce crazy. We gotspice we got pork we got the drinks we got the smoke what more does a gangsta need! Dont let this book dry on the meat hook if you know what i mean! Slam into flavortown!
I love Guy Fieri. Rock on No Cali! Great recipes and love Guy's tidbits woven throughout the books that gives it authentic flavor. A true slice of Americana.
This book is so much more than a cookbook. It reads like a biography with a fantastic recipes thrown in. I checked this out of the library, but I will for sure buy it for my cookbook collection.
