Marianne’s lifelong love of stories began in childhood, inspired by The Ugly Duckling and her treasured copy of Black Beauty. After a 25-year career as a senior technical writer at Boeing, she turned to creating her own happy endings. A native of Santa Barbara, California, she now lives in Washington State with her husband, three children, two grandchildren, and two rescue dogs. She enjoys quilting, embroidering, crocheting, gardening, cooking, baking, and watching every British mystery she can find.
Satisfaction was an enjoyable contemporary romance with some suspense. I didn't realize when I started the book that it was a sequel to Arousing Suspicions. I was able to feel comfortable reading the story without reading the prequel, but I believe that I would have had a better feel for some of the dynamics between the characters if I would have read Arousing Suspicions first. The characters in Satisfaction were likeable and the storyline was fast paced and had plenty of action. I liked this book enough that I want to go back and read Arousing Suspicions soon.
Ethan Darling, former police detective turned private investigator is hired by a television station to find out who is trying to sabotage Georgianna Mundy, the station's high ratings star. It soon becomes obvious that Georgianna is afraid and hiding something, but she has no intention of trusting Ethan. As Ethan digs into Georgianna's background and begins to uncover her secrets, the two begin to like one another. Georgianna has major trust issues, and Ethan believes himself unworthy of happiness due to a tragic incident in his past, so these two have much to overcome as they give into the attraction between them and begin a relationship that both realize is more than physical. Just as Georgie begins to trust and open up to Ethan, those that she cares about most are thrust into danger. Ethan is determined to save Georgie's loved ones while protecting her. While sorting out the dangerous situation, Ethan and Georgie must both come to terms with their pasts and what they feel for one another.
I enjoyed this book and will definitely continue to read this author. This is the third book I have read by Stillings, and I have enjoyed all of them. Satisfaction was quick to read and kept me interested. Georgianna's reluctance to trust Ethan became tiring for me fairly quickly, but other than that, I really enjoyed the main characters. This book was written in a lighter tone than most romantic suspense, so I couldn't really consider it that, but there are both action and suspense in the story.
Wasn't as cracked up funny as the last one I read of hers... but I thought the suspense was good and though I thought their relationship jumped to love quickly it is hard to stretch these things out sometimes.. I am going to check for some others from her after two good ones... thought I think she goes paranormal for one or two of the series... just not my cup of tea!
well, it's not really grand but it's an okay read. i am annoyed with the heroine sometimes, i think she is pushy as hell. if she is my friend, i would probably tell her to shut up and leave me alone, then REALLY leave her alone. but, it's a quick read, and i need quick read from time to time. so there ...
This was cute - I liked it much better than I thouhgt I would. I've been having trouble finding good Contemporary romances (at least by authors I don't know) but this was very enjoyable. The heroines obsession with Feng Shui was cute.
While, for the most part, I enjoyed the story and the characters, there were the odd moment or two where I had to put the book down and walk away. Unfortunately, I can’t explain why other than it was just something in me while reading. But, one thing both this book and book one needs is another round with a proof reader to catch errors like ‘ser vice’. There were other words like that as well.
The relationship development between the two was nice to see. Ethan was a sweetheart indeed. However towards the 70% mark, the book started to become a mess..?
Suddenly it was about Georgie's friend and Ethan's friend? Like isn't this book about Ethan and Georgie...?
Oh and her nickname being Grasshopper....? of ALL nicknames... you decided to call her GRASSHOPPER??? please. no.
Oh and the miscommunication trope was pissing me OFF. Ethan was being such a hypocrite like he's mad Georgie is hiding things from her and yet he became such a manipulative and gaslighting bastard when she asked him to trust her and tell him how he's feeling!! MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
Sparks fly when hotshot private eye Ethan Darling becomes tv chef Georgiana Mundy's bodyguard after a string of events lead those around Georgie to believe that someone from her past is out to get her.
Georgie isn't initially all that thrilled to have Ethan keeping an eye on her, and the job doesn't turn out to be quite as much of a cake walk as Ethan was expecting. But things work out nicely.
I enjoyed the overall plot, and the fact that Georgie is a chef and food is often mentioned in the book was an added bonus. The chemistry between Georgiana and Ethan is both entertaining and steamy at times. Definitely Satisfaction!
I picked this book up on impulse. The author's sense of humor really shined through some parts of the story and had me laughing out loud. The plot was better than some romances but some of the development was lacking - some of the shifts felt contrived. I will be looking for more by this author. I'd recommend this author to Jennifer Crusie fan's looking for new material.
The second in the Darling Detectives series by Marianne Stillings. Ethan Darling is hired to be the bodyguard for Georgiana Mundy, host of a popular culinary TV show.
This is what I'd call a light romantic suspense. The main focus is really the romance with a light suspense element to keep the story going. It was fun and entertaining and, well, I really liked it.
I enjoyed Ethan and Georgie's story. I thought that character development was really well done and it was fun to see Ethan, whom you meet in his brother's book, so toic open and and really see his caring for both his estranged brother and love interest. Of the Darling siblings, Ethan's is my favorite. I get a kick out of his relationship with Georgie and seeing them grow together.
I haven't read anything by this author, but this sounds like a fun, light read, by a fellow DN. So I'll be keeping my eye out for this one, and others by this author as well.
