This book deals with Lordship salvation. In appendix 1, we are given a chart showing the difference between Lordship salvation and No-lordship salvation and radical No-lordship salvation. It also explains in appendix 2 what dispensationalism is and how it relates to Lordship salvation. There is a Scriptural Index and a Subject Index in the rear of the book. This is what I like because I can use this book as a reference to the Bible in studies that I may do later.

MacArthur nails it again with this companion book to “The Gospel According to Jesus”. This book does a great job at dissecting the different aspects of salvation; repentance, faith, justification, sanctification etc. I felt like MacArthur did an especially good job on the area of assurance. This book should be read by anyone who is searching for the truth about salvation as well as Christians who want to know more about their faith.

A very well written refutation of the current pop-theology that peddles easy-believism and cheap grace. Jesus is Lord, and those who would enjoy His salvation must submit to His rule.

THE SEQUEL TO MACARTHUR'S "GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JESUS”

MacArthur wrote in the Introduction to this 1993 book, "This is not a typical sequel. It is more of a PREquel... It fleshes out the framework of doctrine that was only hinted at in its predecessor, 'The Gospel According to Jesus: What Is Authentic Faith?' That book was an analysis of Jesus' evangelistic ministry... This book deals with the apostles' doctrine of salvation, showing that ... the entire New Testament message stands in stark contrast to the hollow 'gospel' many are proclaiming today." (Pg. 11)

He explains that he declines to participate in debates on the subject, as "The real issues are not going to be settled in one- and two-hour sessions... Worst of all, debates contribute to the perception of personal hostility." (Pg. 14) He also notes, "I don't like the term 'lordship salvation.' I reject the connotation intended by those who coined the phrase... Although I have reluctantly used the term to describe my views, it is a concession to popular usage." (Pg. 23)

He states that genuine believers "may stumble and fall, but they WILL persevere in the faith (1 Cor 1:8). Those who later turn completely away from the Lord show that they were never truly born again (1 John 2:19)." (Pg. 25) He admits that the lordship controversy "IS a disagreement over the nature of true faith." (Pg. 30) He emphasizes that works play no role in GAINING salvation, but "have everything to do with LIVING OUT salvation." (Pg. 70)

MacArthur notes that "Jesus Himself had very little to say explicitly about justification by faith. That doctrine was first expounded in its fullness by the apostle Paul." (Pg. 98)

MacArthur's book should be read with GATJ, for full effect; for the contrary view, read 'Absolutely Free: A Biblical Reply to Lordship Salvation' and 'So Great Salvation.'

Another 'must read' book from the pen of John MacArthur!

This is a sequel to his 'The Gospel According to Jesus' and follows that up with an in-depth consideration of the gospel preached by the apostles of Jesus. This book continues to defend the biblical gospel against the easy-believism approach and antinomian doctrines which have dominated much of American-styled evangelism for almost 100 years now!

Every chapter is packed with scripture, exegesis and exposition, and is a tremendous resource for any student of the Bible, and especially the New Testament. The central thesis is that saving faith is working faith, with all that comes along with living a life under the Lordship of Jesus Christ!!

Very highly recommended! A truly 5-star read!

What is saving faith according to the Apostles? MacArthur reveals why it is much more than just an "I Love Jesus" sticker on your bumper.
