I grew up in a small northern Minnesotan town married my high school sweetheart, had two beautiful children and as soon as we could we moved to a warmer climate. I have worked with my husband building and decorating custom homes for years. After loving every kind of vampire book, movie and series I decided that I wanted to know more. I can write a book I thought, how hard can that be? Well.... But I stuck to it and finished my first book Royal Blood Chronicles Book One in August 2009. I now have ten books and three novellas in the Royal Blood Chronicles, two in Phantom Lives, three in the adult dystopian Pathogen series, two in h thriller/mystery series Silken Ties, with Corporate Ties and Thorns of Revenge and 25 books in total. My parents always told me that I could do anything that I wanted, work hard, study and do it right. I believe that and live that way every day.
I started writing this new vampire series for teens and their moms because I myself wanted something different to read. I was tired of all the modern versions of vampire books, there had to be more to these long lived beings. Where had they been what had they seen? I wanted, no I NEEDED to know more so Royal Blood Chronicles was born! As in Royal Blood Chronicles, Phantom Lives features strong female characters and action and adventure mixed with romance, friendship and a historical backdrop
Elizabeth Loraine’s character Quinn is one of the most breath taking male characters ever. His love and devotion to Katrina will win your heart too. Quinn’s story fills in some of those missing peaces that you will want to know as you read the Royal Blood Chronicle series. Quinn is a 10 in the heart throb department with a heart as big as the moon.
Vampire "watcher's" should have tipped me off. This book really needed to be edited. If it were one mistake here and there, I'd understand. But constant grammatical mistakes (many most involving apostrophes used for reasons other than contractions and possessives) take me out of the story and, unfortunately, question the abilities of the writer. No offense meant - it just needs an editor.
This needs a serious edit to fix a number of issues. The story is told not shown. Richly detailed scenes that would establish background and character depth are skipped over with a single sentence.
Quinn is an awfully close-minded and misogynistic character and is stupid enough to voice those thoughts to his ‘love interest’.
Things I noticed:
1% - double fullstop at end of first paragraph. - …unfortunately that statement is (delete is) still holds true… - “How about a swim?”she (insert space after ?) asked… 6% - …right. mind (capital M) you.” 9% - …as the youngest is (delete is, replace with it) was in my nature… 11% - … that your (you) will marry and become… 12% - …you may be getting to(o) close to her…
I was expecting something vastly different than what we got. I was expecting something along the lines of Quinn's decision to be turned, what he went through, or how he felt seeing Katrina and Damien together. Not 2 chapters of growing up, then nothing new.
very short, 89 pages. good story but very short. It's about Quinn (human watcher)& Katrina (vampire). His family has been guarding her family before they were even born. They grew up together as best friends, but now they both have grown up and taking on new roles in life and new duties, & feelings. It's a good story but way too short, the story leaves you feeling like your hanging waiting for an ending.
Included is part of the story Katrina The Beginning, and it takes place 3 years later. The years don't feel like they line up, towards the end of the book she's planning her 18th birthday party yet the beginning talks about being 130. Maybe the whole book fixes this feeling. I think that maybe the beginning was current and then the rest is a recap of her life, judging by the bold print then regular print, but it was run together so it's hard to tell. The changes in action or places are run into each other. Makes it kind of choppy to read. The story does pick up and get really good. Mystery, some romance, twist. No sex or bad language. An interesting take on vampires.
I don't really know how to rate this one. If I had to rate it as Quinn's book (which is the title the author gave), then it's a 2. But the book is more Katrina's beginning. You have a few pages of young Quinn and Katrina. You get introduced to them and all 7 of the Voss brothers (who have been the Watcher's of Katrina's family for years, centuries). That is like a good chapter. They are still very young and just getting ready to start training. Then, it jumps to give you 10 or 11 chapter of Katrina's Beginning, Book One. That was pretty good but not what should be reviewed for a Quinn book. Yes, he made appearances but the 10/11 chapters were from Katrina's point of view, since she was ask to give a recount of her life once she was a 100+ years old.
I enjoyed the book less as the story progressed. The Quinn prequel was only a few pages, and the rest was an extended preview of the first book in the series. The beginning was engaging and the premise was somewhat believable (as much as the vampire genre can be). But when Katrina meets (and saves the lives of) several other young teenage vampire girls, they form a bond that resembles the Justice League of Superheroes. Then the story is about these giddy girls and how they continue to develop incredible supernatural powers. I would probably continue reading the series just to see whether it trends back towards an exciting vampire adventure or a teeny-bop romance.
I really enjoyed this book!!!! A different time, a different outlook on vamps and their human....whatever. Awesome characters, easy to read, fun to read. Loads of action, humor, scary parts, and VERY sexy characters. I really want more of this, to know where it goes from where i left off. Awesome and a must read!!!!
I read this when the author first published it. It provided a lot of background information on the watchers and why Quinn is the sweetest guy ever. I highly suggest you all get your free novella now! Right now! lol
Felt very rushed, really could have been a chapter in Katrina, most of the book is the beginning of the first in the series, really disappointed in this one
