But in this fictionalized life of Julian Carlton who brutally killed Frank Lloyd Wright’s mistress, her two children and four of his workers on a hot August day in 1914, the author has young Carlton leaving this idyllic setting, a domineering mother, and a soon to be discovered crime to eventually end up as an ax-wielding murderer in Wisconsin. She researched the areas where Julian purportedly lived, the social climate and attitudes that existed and situations he likely encountered which could have served as a catalyst to the heinous acts he committed.
