Rate this book
Without Boundaries brings together 100 poems written by members of the Sutton Writers Poetry Workshop. They are a snapshot of their creativity, and a selection of their own favourite poems.

These poets produce a growing and dynamic catalogue to choose from as new ideas, inspiration through observation, and that familiar feeling that this is a poem I must write now, possess the moment.

When you read these poems you are invited to find your own favourites and to share the poets’ pleasure in writing them.

An intriguing anthology of poems from over twenty local writers and poets. There is no shared theme or genre – hence the collection’s title – and the selections span the emotions and the craft, although most err to contemporary free verse and prefer an identifiable rhyming structure.

We have poems of wistfulness, anger, love, contemplation, observation, the natural world, the dead and the living, memories sharp and remembrances fading, shadows of wit and a little rub of cynicism. Sometime we have breached the borders of experience, other times we look introspectively inward, a life affirming journey of sentiment and strength, overcoming uncertainty and celebrating the good, the ugly, the truth, the lie.

I would perhaps have preferred a shorter collection, one hundred poems seems an awful lot and they are crammed in tightly. Aesthetically, I’d have liked to see more space around each work and more prominence to the respective authors, perhaps grouping each writer together rather than attempting to theme the poems; but these are minor points and overall the collection is strong and purposeful, with a variety of touch, flair and heart unusual in anthologies.

I know some of these poets through the associated Writer’s Circle, so it’s great to see their talent and work gaining recognition.

Local writer's with universal ambition!

This Anthology is a well hewned gem. Inspiring, thought provoking, sensitive, personal.

Although written by many different writers as a collection it becomes a celebration of existence and is a glorious set of reflections on universal themes.

It is a collection of previous celebration made by the group and pulls them together into one place which I was grateful for. What a wonderful introduction to the local poetry talent.

Looking forward to their next book.
