Pining for your best friend sucks ass—and not the good kind of sucking. But I can’t back away, and I definitely can’t let go. Eddie Phelps is too damn important to me. He has my heart and soul. Well, he and his daughter, a ten-year-old who one day will run the world.
It’s not like I can even blame Eddie for mixed signals or anything. He’s done everything right. He always does. Honestly, that’s part of his problem. But I won’t put pressure on him. That means it’s down to Eddie to see how freakin’ awesome a catch I am. I just have no idea how exactly I’ll get him to do that. Sure, I’m a professional basketball player. But once upon a time, so was he. It’s going to take something huge to get him to see beyond my age *cough immaturity cough*. But since Eddie isn’t one for making wrong moves, I’m not sure a grand gesture will work.
That leads me back to pining, and hoping somehow, someway, he’ll see me as more than a joker. More than his best friend—even though I’m a kick-ass one. Maybe someday, he’ll know I’m exactly the person he needs to make the move on.

Overall Opinion This book was absolutely brilliant! It embraced the realities of an age-gap relationship whilst still being sweet and steamy. We have Eddie, a single father and Pearce, a pro basketball player in the height of his career. Both are in love with each other but unable to take that step further due to both having the fear of ruining their friendship, along with the awareness of the 11 year age difference. The chemistry between these two is insane and at the same time very sweet. It was very low angst, despite the issues on the side with Eddie's ex wife, and was an overall well-written story that gets all the feels going!
Read if you like: ❣️ M/M Romance ❣️ Age Gap ❣️ Best Friends-to-Lovers ❣️ Low Angst ❣️ Single Dad ❣️ HEA
I won't be rating this one since I am not sure what I would rate it.
It all felt just a bit too simple and sweet for me? And waaaaaay too much concern about and constantly mentioning the age gap between the two, which was just 11 years. And the kid was way too precocious and involved lol, sorry.
I think I am just learning that I am not a huge fan of friends to lovers. It gets lumped into the whole "just communicate!!" pet peeve I have with miscommunication - just talk to each other!
If you are a fan of friends to lovers, I imagine you'll love this one. It's very sweet, very low angst/drama, and if you like kids being present, you'll enjoy this one too.
Eddie and Pearce are such wonderful characters and the bestest besties ever. Unfortunately Pearce has wanted to be more then besties for the past 5 years and the pining is still strong. Eddie is wary of the 11 year age difference between them and doesn’t quite understand how age gap relationships lasted. Add into the mix his confident and sassy 10 year old Lottie, his rather deplorable boyfriend and all the travelling for Pearce’s pro basketball career, Eddie really does struggle with how a relationship would look and work between them.
The caring, considerate and rather stubborn Pearce isn’t prepared to lose their friendship so continues pining until circumstances make Eddie really open his eyes to what’s possible for them. So begins a lovely, low angst romance that had me fully hooked from start to finish. The chemistry between Eddie and Pearce leads to some very steamy moments and the intimate moments are so tender and sweet.
“Kissing Peace was like experiencing sunshine for the first time after storm season. He radiated warmth and happiness, and I would never get tired of this. Of him.”
The side characters kept things interesting, had me smiling with their antics and at the end I felt as if I’d just been given a big hug!
What is it about best friends to lovers that makes my heart smile. In this case, it’s the adorable and adorably squishy duo of Pearce and Eddie. “The man was lodged in my soul, and whether he knew it or not, when I’d fallen for him, I’d given him a piece of said soul in return.” I loved this book. I loved the people, especially Lottie, the low-angst and high steam slide into forever love, and the camaraderie that Pearce has with his teammates. I’m looking at you, Cass. Eddie, Pearce and their wonderfully refreshing love story brought light, laughter and love. It was everything I wanted to read, and more so, “all the things” I needed in my life.
No Wrong Moves was a really sweet and uncomplicated love story!
This one was a bit of a slow burn - Eddie spent the first part of the story being hung up on their age gap, and it got a bit repetitive. Eventually he figured out his feelings, but because of his thought pattern I felt like Eddie initiating their relationship came a bit out of nowhere. They had a lot of chemistry though, and I really liked Pearce.
The story was enjoyable, but it never managed to fully draw me in. I got tired of Eddie thinking Pearce was too young and I thought the pacing was a little off - the first half felt too slow compared to the other half of the book.
It was nice to read about basketball for a chance, and that the sport was present throughout the book. I liked the glimpses of the team and their banter was fun as well!
This book was just so adorable! I loved the characters so much and the story line was great! There were a few repetitive phrases that bugged me a little bit but overall this book is a big squishy marshmallow.
Pearce is a laid back super fun prankster which a great sense of humour, I laughed so much at the banter he had with everyone, especially his team mates! I lol so many times!! I literally love it when he says wankface wayne 🤣🤣 His love for Eddie was so true, I felt it from the beginning, the touches and eye contact was hot as F!!🔥 This book is about two best friends who have s big age gap and some would say it’s weird to have a bff with ten years difference but they were made for each other, they both pinned for years thinking they were doing right for each other but it all got too much and once they kissed the friendship went from 0-100 and I was here for it!! I loved Lottie, she was a firecracker and defiantly kept everyone in line and on their toes!!! Loved this book, can’t wait for the next one!
This is a standalone but I plan on reading the other books because the side characters are great!!
This books has age gap, single dad, bff to lovers, low angst, with pining and hilarious basketball jocks!
I LOVED Pearce and Eddie in this best friends to lovers book. I've been looking forward to reading this story for ages and it lived up to all of my expectations. I loved the pining. It was delicious seeing how much Pearce wanted Eddie and then seeing Eddie accept his feelings for Pearce. I loved the drama with Wayne, and I loved seeing Eddie get a little jel as well. All the side characters were brilliant (can't wait for the next book). This book was so well written and I felt all of the emotions!

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆ This is the third book in the series – and an absolute winner in my opinion.
One of those stories where everyone around the two guys knows exactly how things will work out once one of them gets over the mental block which stands in the way. In this instance, Eddie needs to get over the age difference, the fact that he has a daughter, and that his career in the NBA is over, and whilst Pearce's is in full flight, he still would rather spend time with them than out on the town.
As the confusion clears and Eddie rights the situation so that they can enjoy the chemistry between them, and the feelings they have for each other, they get acceptance and joy from almost everyone around them.
Lovely, funny, engaging, and smoothly written, I devoured this in a day and am already looking forward to the next book in the series.

Pearce and Eddie are best friends and their 11-year age gap doesn’t get in the way of anything. Except, like, the fact that Pearce desperately wants to be with Eddie and Eddie thinks that Pearce is too immature for him. Pearce is a basketball player and the height of his career, his team making it to the playoffs. He works hard, loves his team, the game and has given up meaningless hookups in order to show Eddie that he’s matured and is a good role model to Eddie’s daughter, Lottie – who loves him and the game, too. Eddie is a retired basketball player, a single dad, divorced from his ex-wife for a long time and recently broke up with a guy who didn’t deserve him.
When Eddie and Pearce finally give in to their insane chemistry, it’s hot enough to feel it through screen. Once they get over their fears of ruining their friendship, making a long-distance romantic relationship work and figure out how to make their situation work for them until Pearce’s contract is finished, it’s smooth sailing.
I loved that this book was low angst, full of enough heat to make your granny blush and that their relationship together and as dad & stepdad felt so organic and real. Eddie and Pearce are sweet, sexy and goals.
I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and, as always, my review is unpaid and honest. No Wrong Moves Becca Seymour
No Wrong Moves by Becca Seymour is the third book in the Zone Defense series, Eddie and Pearce's story.
Pearce and Eddie became best friends after meeting at a basketball camp where they were both coaches. After turning Pearce down originally, Eddie wished things were different between them and when Pearce all but gives Eddie the green light, he is not going to give up his second chance.
Pearce and Eddie are adorably sweet together. I love the little family that they have with Eddie's daughter Lottie. Pearce and Eddie prove that age is nothing but a number. I love the banter and antics with the basketball team.
I can not wait for more Zone Defense and more from Becca Seymour.
No Wrong Moves contains... sports (basketball), mm, single dad, age gap, best friends to lovers, and dual first-person point of view.

Lovely, funny, engaging and smoothly written, I devoured this in a day and am already looking forward to the next book in the series.
I am in the happy position to get ARCs from different authors, which gives me the opportunity to get to know new ones ... and Inlove it when I find someone, whose books I want to read in the future.
This one was such a find. I loved the relationship between Eddie and Pierce. Their friendship, their chemistry, their commitment to each other and their ability and willingness to talk with and to each other.
I loved the story and all the characters in it.
The only thing I was not a favorite of was the ending ... as in how they decided to join their lifes together. I thought it was a bit unfair but that is just me and my love for fairytale endings ☺️
I’m loving this series, and hoped that Pearce would get his own HEA. I enjoyed his and Eddie’s sweet friends to lovers story, and how they become a family with Eddie’s daughter, Lottie.
I loved how Pearce and Eddie are already obviously both in love, but Eddie is worried about their age gap, and Pearce convinces himself they can be friends. The moment when Pearce realises their relationship is way more than friendship is wonderful. I love how caring and thoughtful Pearce is with Lotte too. I enjoyed reading about their friendship as much as Eddie and Pearce’s. I liked the organic way their friendship moves into the next level when they both figure out they could have a future together.
The team play a huge role in this. I love the sibling/family teasing and support for Pearce, and I didn’t guess who would win the betting pool, although the results were a given. I liked Lotte and how she’s a mix of manager in waiting, and realistic ten-year-old kid.
Eddie’s ex, Wayne, is immature and selfish. Every time he appears on page, it’s obvious Eddie is better off without him.
The epilogue is the perfect glimpse into their future. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
This was the first book I’ve read from Becca Seymour but it certainly won’t be my last! No Wrong Moves had the perfect mix of sweet and steamy. I loved how Pearce and Eddie already had such a strong foundation of friendship and they slid into a relationship (almost) seamlessly. But of course they have to make up for lost time and things get steamy really quick! On another note, Eddie’s daughter Lottie was absolutely adorable. The bond she had with her dad and with Pearce was so cute and I loved when the three of them had scenes together. Another aspect I enjoyed was Pearce’s teammates. Their antics had be shaking with laughter at times! I definitely need a few of them to get their own books! Overall, I highly recommend this MM friends-to-lovers romance and I can’t wait to see what comes next from this series.
*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*
That's so nice! I liked everything, the age gap, the 10yo girl and her fierce passion, the struggle to transition from best friends to lovers. This is the third book in the series, but it can becread as standalone. In fact, I didn't read the previouses and it didn't feel like I was missing something. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Thank you for arc read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. I mean it takes some nerve Wayne, the guy that requested to have the "open" relationship was a big bag of cling wrap where Eddie is considered. Eddie so needs to listen to that little voice about Wayne, that is two years of ego hot mess just boiling over. With both Eddie and Lottie, Years of longing but fighting the pull was becoming harder to resist, sharing his thoughts and feelings with Tony, Eddie over hears the desire in Pearce's along with the others statement. After all was the fight over or just staring? Because someone is bound to blurb, leaving one emotional mess to explain. Out of all the pranks, the door bell one that Pearce pulled on Cassius hilarious.
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and the author.
“No Wrong Moves” is book 3 in Becca Seymour’s Zone Defense series. It features Pearce, a professional basketball player in Minnesota and his best friend, Eddie, a retired professional basketball player who lives in Chicago. It’s also an age-gap romance.
Pearce has been in love with Eddie for five years. Despite being rejected by Eddie when he suggested hooking up years prior, the two continued a lasting friendship. Pearce struggles with his affection and desire for Eddie, but doesn’t want to jeopardize their friendship.
Eddie has joint custody of his 10 year old daughter, Lottie, though she lives with him. Eddie cherishes his time with Pearce, frequently attending his basketball games and making sure that they stay in touch. They talk everyday and have a strong bond. Eddie’s feelings for Pearce take on a romantic edge once Eddie ends a placeholder relationship with Wankface Wayne. IYKYK.
Things take off at warp speed once Pearce and Eddie’s coupling solidifies. Their interactions are intense and full of heart and heat. The steamy moments in this novel are smoking hot. The dialogue is full of witty banter, yet there’s a closeness there that signals true connection and tenderness. I love how Pearce and his teammates riff with one another. I liked the pranks between him and Cassius. I really appreciated the epilogue being set 8 years into the future.
This book is a really good read. It’s low angst, full of laughs, and just an overall good time. You should definitely check it out! Lottie steals all the scenes!
They were best friends for the past five years. Pearce and Eddie might not have been dating for the past few years but they were steadily creating a lasting bond with one another and a family with Eddie's daughter Lottie. Pearce was besotted with them both and wants to be with them both. Yes, he was young, at the start of his career and a bit immature when they met. But he was consistent and respectful, choosing the close friendship he could get instead of pushing for more. But as his team enters the playoffs, things begin to change for him and Eddie. They have both pined for more, Eddie just hid it better. They have been close friends long enough that they know each other and know themselves so when they finally cross that line from friends to lovers, all three are all in to become a family sooner rather than later. More than anything, I liked the way both Pearce and Eddie centered Lottie's feelings and needs in every move they made toward formally forming their family. Pearce's teammates were a hoot as well. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Pearce and Eddie are perfect, for each other, for a family, for Lottie!
I have read books from Ms. Becca Seymour before and I loved everyone of them. She has the ability to make you fall in love with her characters so hard and root for them, whatever they may be going through.
Eddie and Pearce have been pining for each other, although you might not see it clearly with Eddie. He has been holding back his feelings for a couple of reasons. The Age Gap is not really that big, and inconsequential when it comes to "happily ever after," right? And then there's the fact that Pearce is at the peak of his career in Pro Basketball. But again, it is something that can run alongside "happily ever after" if need be. The fact that they are best friends is the icing on the cake. It means that they really know each other very well at this point.
I love that this book is low angst. I love Lottie so much! I love how smart she is and equally strong and knows what she wants.
Congratulations Ms. Seymour, I can't wait for more!
This book has definitely been my favourite book of this series so far! I absolutely loved everything about Eddie and Pearce!! The addition of Eddie’s daughter Lottie and her love of basketball was perfect! The way Pearce really stepped up and loved Lottie like his own daughter was amazing!
Wankface Wayne. Ugh. I have no idea why Eddie was ever with him. He sounded absolutely terrible. I’m glad it didn’t take long for Eddie to decide to end that.
I love all the bets that this basketball team makes. There were some great ones in this book and I thought the winner of the last bet was hilarious!
I find with a lot of books the wedding and even proposal are just glossed over or take place between the last chapter and epilogue. I love that we got to see the proposal with a NSFW retelling ;). Also that the wedding planning was part of the main story. I would have liked a chapter on the wedding but I’m happy with what we got!!
Definitely make sure to read the bonus chapter available at the end of the book to read about Pearce’s bachelor party! As I was reading this book I was wondering who the next book would be about and I’m super excited that it’s Cassius. I can’t wait to read it!!
Friends-to-lovers is my go-to trope and this one is perfect. Eddy politely rebuffs Pearce’s advances several years ag because he really sees them at very different points in their lives. Eddy is an older, retired single dad and Pearce is still an active ball player in his 20s. So they develop a really deep friendship. Which of course is the best kind of foundation for a romantic relationship. Once Eddy gets rid of the awful weight that is Wankface Wayne, he takes a chance on Pearce. Lottie is realistically represented as a 10yo kid. She rounds out their family so well and is super fun. Becca Seymour writes low-angst, but the shift from friends-to-lovers isn’t quite smooth sailing. They’re all in, but still must navigate the logistics of combining their lives. It’s written beautifully and Pearce and Eddy are now my most favorite couple from this series!
Sexy fun! Friend-to-lovers, slight age-gap (~10 years—mentioning only bc one of the heroes is a tad hung up on it) and single-dad MM sports romance set in the refreshing world of pro basketball, an underdone sport in the genre. Please read the book copy for a plot summary.
I love a good pining story, and this one has that in spades. Pro basketball player Pearce has wanted to be with Eddie, retired from the sport, for years, nearly their entire friendship, but Eddie said no once and that’s enough for Pearce to respect his decision. Never mind that they’re drawn to each other like magnets and Pearce also adores Eddie’s 10-year-old daughter, Lottie. Something’s always held Eddie back.
Well this is the fun part where the dam breaks and Eddie can barely fathom why he said no in the first place. Watching these two on page together was hot and endearing and heartwarming, and Lottie adds a nice layer to the story rather than becoming a distraction. Though I kinda wanted to kick Eddie for his “reasons,” I still loved these two together and thoroughly enjoyed watching them take a chance and claim the future they deserve. Extra kudos to Pearce for hanging in there and being the mature younger man of the pair. Him I wanted to hug the heck out of.
Secondary characters add a nice atmosphere and potential for more books in this world, especially the incorrigible Cassius. I can’t comment on basketball accuracy, I’m a sports ignoramus, but there isn’t a lot of detail about the games. There’s enough atmosphere to make it fun for us lay-people, though more knowledgeable enthusiasts might want more authentic detail and specifics.
The only thing that irked me was the situation with Eddie’s dating situation—he’s too smart to have put up with it, and it made me feel so bad for Pearce. Eddie does get his head out of his rear, but, I’d have loved a bit more…I don’t know, not quite groveling, but, admitting he’s been a bit of a fool for a number of years. Cause he sure AF was. (I didn’t buy the “it all happened at the right time” crap talk; sorry, I call b.s.) But overall, I was rooting for these two and enjoyed their story quite a lot. I will read more in this world.
HEA, no cheating or emotional cheating (well… no e.c. on page anyway, so, okay for me! LOL), strong single-dad element and satisfying romantic tension and payoff. Recommended.
Many thanks to Gay Romance Reviews for the ARC; this is my free and impartial opinion.
Reviewed for Love Bytes – 4 hearts A few years ago, Eddie rejected Pearce on the grounds of an age gap, a fledgling career and maturity. Unable to give the man up, Pearce resolved to live his life, hoping that the older man would eventually see the light. In the meantime, the two remained resolute best friends. If you like basketball, wrapped in a duvet of hugs and friends, with negligible angst – this story is for you. No Wrong Moves is told in the first person, with alternating chapters between Pearce and Eddie. There are minor technicalities and habitual expressions, such as head bobbing (not in the sucking sense). But that’s just me being uber-picky on borderline things. As for worldbuilding – basketball is a factor. However, it is more the bond between the players and the game atmosphere than the action that is uppermost. This is done very well. For the majority, though, the focus is the connection between Pearce, Eddie and his young daughter, Lottie, instead of aesthetics like the color of carpets etc. I like this aspect and congratulate it because, I feel many books get too distracted by the surroundings – not here. For my reading preference, I like a bit more anguish. Nevertheless, the story is billed as low angst, and other than some should I, shouldn’t I, will it spoil the friendship - it lives up to that. As for the main characters, they are fully paid-up members of the mutual gushing society. Lottie is a firecracker who steals most of the scenes she is in with Pearce and Eddie. My favs, though, are Pearce’s basketball teammates. The banter and snark between them were a delight. No Wrong Moves is a cuddly book to read. I felt like I wanted to curl up in a blanket with a mug of hot chocolate and believe world peace existed. Yes, there were moments when other emotions invaded, but for the most part, it was time to bring out the hobnobs. On the basis that everyone needs a good hug and who can resist two hot athletic blokes - I’ve given this a recommended read rating of four hearts. This book was provided free in exchange for a fair and honest review for Love Bytes.
“I love you so much that just the thought of you hurting because of me breaks my fucking heart.”
✔️MM romance ✔️basketball romance ✔️single dad ✔️best friends to lovers ✔️age gap (11 years) ✔️no 3rd act breakup
3.5⭐️
Though the first 30% of the book was incredibly repetitive and I had some issues with the way the characters’ dialogue is written at times, overall I enjoyed this low angst spicy basketball romance. Eddie and Pearce are cute together, and it was very apparent from the start that all of the hangups when it came to starting a relationship were coming from Eddie. In fact, as I alluded to before, he spends the first third(ish) of the book lamenting their age gap and how he was stuck in a relationship (more like situationship) that he was not interested in anymore. Once he wakes up and realizes who/what he wants has been waiting for him to catch up, the pacing picks up and the book becomes much more enjoyable.
This is just a small nitpick thing, but the way the main characters speak sometimes threw me off. I know that the author is Australian, but this book takes place completely in the US with characters born and raised in the US, and so many of the little phrases they would use or their speech patterns aren’t accurate for the way they would realistically speak. It wasn’t as big of a deal in the first two books (book one both MCs are Australian and it is set there for half the book, book two the MCs go on a trip to Australia and spend a fair bit of time with the couple from book one). It isn’t a huge deal, just something that I noticed and pulled me out of the story while I was reading.
Eddie’s daughter is sweet and I love that the epilogue has a time jump to when they are dropping her off for college. She is a solid side character and I have a feeling she knew about her dad and Pearce before they told her, though that wasn’t explicitly stated in the book. There could have been OW drama with her mom, but thankfully there was none. Overall this is a cute book and once they got together I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it doesn’t rank higher than the first two books in the series for me.
As a bestselling author myself, I read countless books… but every now and then, one comes along that completely disarms me, and this was that book.
From the very first page, I was hooked by the emotional rawness, the sparkling wit, and the magnetic tension between the characters. The pining, the longing, the layered friendship turned love, it wasn’t just storytelling; it was soul-speaking. The author masterfully weaves humor and heart into every line, making me laugh, ache, and root for a love that feels so real, it might as well leap off the page.
Eddie and the narrator? Chemistry that burns. And let’s not forget the daughter, such a beautifully written character, smart, bold, and utterly unforgettable. This book isn’t just romance. It’s a celebration of vulnerability, resilience, and the courage it takes to hope for more.
📚 I don’t just recommend this book. I urge every reader, every romantic, every soul that’s ever yearned for something just out of reach, read this. It’s a gift.
And to the author: you’ve done something extraordinary. You didn’t just write a book. You carved out a piece of yourself and gave it to the world. I see it. I feel it. And I’m so proud to celebrate this with you.
This is such a low angst/no drama book, it oozes feel good. And that is a bit of the problem of it.
Pearce is in love with Eddie and Eddie is in love with Pearce. Eddie thinks he is too old for Pearce and blocks all attempts to start a relationship so Pearce settles for a deep friendship. Not a bad story as such if Eddie wouldn't be in the headspace of seeing Pearce as the young, just starting out, athlet he was when both of them met. I felt Eddie's excuses got old quickly, he is able to leave eveything behind to see Pearce's games on a regular basis, stays with an awful boyfriend to tell himself that he is save from his feelings for Pearce and only when Pearce helps out with Eddie's daughter falling ill, he opens his eyes?
Suddenly Eddie is seeing that Pearce is a catch and this is when the story starts to feel even more ridiculous. Add a sassy, basketball mad pre-teen to it and you have the happily ever after before even the book is halfway through.
There is no drama about the reality of a long-distance relationship, no issues with Eddie's ex-wife, no issues with Pearce's teammates and his old friend with benefits.
By the time the book was over I felt a bit of relief after all the sweetness.
