This lesbian summer holiday romance comes with tangy cocktails, arched eyebrows, and a sweet side of mystery.
Lucy Holloway is dying for an escape. The high-flying lawyer’s life has just spectacularly imploded so it’s time to hit the reset button and soak up some sun, sea, and relaxation at a swanky hotel across the Atlantic.
Laid-back physical therapy student Elena Garcia is home for the holidays. Picking up a few shifts as a lifeguard at Sol Plaza, the hotel her father manages, sounds like fun. Speaking of fun…there’s also that sweet summer flirtation she’s having with a smoking hot American lawyer. But when their sizzling romance slides into real emotions, everything gets complicated.
Also complicated? Wild accusations against Elena’s father about how Sol Plaza’s being run. Teaming up with Lucy, Elena’s determined to clear his name.
But will working together bring the two even closer? Where do flings end and feelings begin, anyway?
Rachael Sommers was born and raised in the North-West of England, where she began writing at the age of thirteen, and has been unable to stop since. A biology graduate, she currently works in education and constantly dreams of travelling the world. In her spare time, she enjoys horse riding, board games, escape rooms and, of, course, reading.
This is an easy romance, probably something that could be read while on vacation. Apt too, because the main characters meet in a hotel on the Spanish island of Tenerife, while one of them, Lucy, is a lawyer on vacation. The other character, Elena, is a lifeguard stationed at the hotel pool. They go on to have a fling until they decide that they have caught on more feelings for each other than they expected but resist sharing their thoughts with one another until such time when they finally cave in.
This is actually a pleasant read in the sense that it's angst-free and while not an erotica, this has quite a bit of sexual activity. However in my opinion, i thought the couple lacked a bit of spark and they progress on far faster emotionally than what I would have liked in stories I read. The author tried to add a bit of excitement into the story and so there's a bit of mystery that takes place along the way that requires Lucy's help. I thought that was a good inject but not really enough to make things interesting.
I received an ARC from Ylva Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
Lucy Holloway was not expecting a sabbatical from her law career yet here she sits, pool side, in Tenerife, Canary Islands. All of this because she believed the colleague she was dating and in love with was as single as she proclaimed. This illusion was dramatically corrected by her husband’s emotional outburst at Lucy’s office and in front of her coworkers and bosses. Lucy’s life for now revolves around a pool, a tropical drink and the view of an enticing lifeguard.
Elena Garcia is home from university for the summer and working as a lifeguard at the hotel her father manages. Her life and plans for her future keeps her romantic life to the limitations of a visitor’s vacation stay. Hooking up with Lucy was supposed to be quick and fun. The longer Lucy stayed the more Elena tried to understand her feelings.
In Too Deep is a light romantic fare best suited to accompany a beach towel and sun block. It is perfect for those lazy days of summer when all you want is to be entertained by a sizzling sex-capade. There is some light drama surrounding Elena’s father and his job with the hotel but in truth the resolution is fairly see through. While I enjoyed learning about Tenerife, I could not read through the novel fast enough so that I could move on to something more to my liking. Just because this novel is not in my wheelhouse I know others will love the pure, unadulterated sexy romance Sommers offers you.
I received an advance review copy from Ylva Publishing and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
3.25 ⭐️ In Too Deep is a casual and light summer romance. American Lucy spends an indefinite period of time (a sabbatical) in Tenerife to heal her broken heart and humiliated image. Pretty young Spanish lifeguard Elena, 12 years her junior, is only too happy to help her. But as always, when emotions come into play, things get more complicated than they should be. Is there a way for the two to maintain their relationship?
A sweet romance without much drama and angst. Lucy and Elena have great chemistry and the sex is hot. From casual to I love you is a bit fast in my opinion, but it doesn't detract from the entertainment. The secondary characters, especially Marcos and Carla, are humorous and loyal friends and Elena's family is endearing. A bit of suspense comes into the story when the hotel manager, Elena's father, is unjustly fired and Lucy, who is a lawyer, tries to help.
A vacation fling under the Spanish sun made me forget for a few hours the gray and dreary weather in Switzerland.
Thanks to Ylva Publishing for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I have a bit of a hard time thinking about what I want to say about this one.
I enjoyed this story, enjoyed revisiting Tenerife through this book. It sure brought up some fond memories for me. And that’s where I get into trouble as well. Did I enjoy reading this book because of my own Tenerife memories? Or did I enjoy this book for what it is?
Let’s break it down. This supposed summer fling story between lifeguard Elena, who’s home from college for the summer, and Lucy the lawyer on a sabbatical, sounds like it’s all sorts of wrong in one line. It isn’t. There is instant mutual attraction between the MCs. The first ~40% is very lustful, something I don’t usually enjoy. It does work here though, Sommers writes it very well. At about the half way mark things change up a bit, feelings come in to play, a light mystery around Elena’s dad’s job comes up. Something that Lucy can help with because of her profession. What else is there? A 12 year age gap, not usually my thing either, unless… You guessed it, it is written wel and no power imbalance. I think Sommers does a good job of addressing both the age and the income differences (which come up later). Elena and Lucy both fight their feelings, don’t want to tell the other about wanting to move beyond casual. It all gets addressed in a pretty organic way in a lovely Tenerife setting. What I don’t like, but I guess is necessary? The Tenerife natives obviously speak Spanish with each other, but the dialogue in the book is in English. It’s a bit annoying to read “Elena speaking in Spanish to her dad is saying:….”. I think even when they involve Lucy and the dialogue would naturally be in English, it would be so normal for Elena’s parents to use some Spanish pet names for their daughter, or even for Lucy. I don’t know, it’s a bit nitpicking probably, but it annoys me.
Maybe the I love you happens a bit too quickly in the timespan of their dating, but it’s adorable. And after the amount of they spent together I guess it makes sense. I think the epilogue also helps me be ok with that. They didn’t do a rush uhaul type of thing, thank you for writing it that way!
Conclusion? I have no clue. I loved my time on Tenerife and remember it fondly. This book is a perfect light summer read for when you are lounging on the beach or poolside and just need some fun. I can’t really fault it, but u don’t actually know the why and how of it.
I thought it was just going to be loads of lust written in given that it started as a fling or a few nightstands for our 2 MCs; Lucy who is on a sabbatical and Elena, who is having some time off from school which truth be told, I was pretty bored with the theme. But it got better and relationships and feelings evolved between Lucy and Elena eventually. They talked (though not so much about their feelings about one another), went out for walks, help another out and work together to solve a crime. Wonderful supportive secondary characters in Carla and Marcos.
The Spanish island of Tenerife is the meeting ground for the two leads in this easy read romance. Lucy Holloway has escaped to the island fleeing the embarrassment of a love affair exposed, forced on vacation by the law firm she works for. Elena Garcia has made her annual trip home for the summer where she fills in where needed at the hotel managed by her father. There is a quick flare of attraction when they meet poolside after saving two children from drowning. The descriptions of the island are beautiful and interesting and made me want to visit the Canary Islands. Throw in a bit of angst and Lucy's legal expertise being called on to help Elena's father with a problem plus the hot romance and you have a quick holiday read.
I rec'd a copy through Ylva Publishing. My review is completely voluntary.
This was a breezy fun read on an island. Both MCs were like able and well thought out. It was an opposites attract insta sex story for the first part of the book. Then we were introduced to a small mystery and both MCs began to change.
This is an age-gap holiday / summer fling romance. Lucy Holloway is a lawyer from New York, who is taking a break, and running away from a break-up. She escaped to Tenerife, and there she meets Elena Garcia, a physical therapy student, working as a lifeguard during her university break at the hotel her father manages. The two got together early on with no strings attached. However, feelings usually have a mind of their own..and it seems to be tugging at both of them. Thrown in the mix was also a little mystery.
I liked both main characters. They are nice women. Both came from different lives and background. They seem very attracted to one another. But as time goes, there was pining and longing due to them not wanting to express their feelings. The secondary characters also added to the story. Really like the best friends, Carla and Marcos. As well as Elena’s parents. The little mystery thrown in the middle was not big or truly exciting, but it did allow for us to get to know Elena’s family a little more. I also enjoyed the setting where this story takes place. An island resort.. really gives a relaxing feel to it. The author described the area and local cuisines vividly and this had me googling on the internet to find out more.
For those who enjoy low angst romance… this book is definitely one of those. A very easy, pleasant read. This was a 3.5 star read for me.
I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I had so much fun reading the book all the characters is amazing and funny
I liked both Lucy and Elena very much, the chemistry between them was off the chart from the beginning and that’s what matters to me most, their banter and the way they flirted made me grin from ear to ear 😂😂🔥
“Elena’s mouth replaced her hand, and she slid her lips up the column of Lucy’s throat. “You probably shouldn’t try this with all of your clients.”
To be honest I wanted more sex scenes but i WONT complain much 😂
My problem with the book that it needed more editing and there was miscommunication and i hate that, but overall I enjoyed it.
Just a light, quick read. Sexy lifeguard sees sexy lawyer on vacation. Immediate attraction. Lawyer helps lifeguard with family problem. Lifeguard and lawyer fall in love. The end. I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Lucy is taking a sabbatical when she finds herself helping Elena, whose father has run into some legal difficulties at the hotel he runs. Laws are different in Spain but she knows she has to try and help when she realises what Elena’s father has been accused of and who is actually behind the mess.
A truly sweet story about taking chances and being kind. Lucy wasn’t searching for anything other than escape, to find herself a purpose and someone she could fall in love with, meant she had such a fulfilling holiday, even if it was at times stressful. They had a great connection that Elena had intended just to be a bit of a fling while Lucy was there but when she started getting emotionally involved in Elena’s dad’s case, you just knew it wasn’t going to be that simple.
I loved how selfless Lucy was when Elena needed her help, and it was wonderful how she didn’t need to be asked but wanted to do this because she’d started to develop an emotional connection with Elena. She couldn’t do it alone though, there were challenges working with a different language and country’s laws so that really cemented her and Elena’s connection as they had to work together to get justice.
A really lovely story with a bit of a race against time and emotional challenges that kept both Lucy and Elena on their toes. If they could make it all work, they had the potential to change their lives and find real love and happiness with one another.
Lucy is an important business lawyer, whose private life imploded at work. So, she takes a sabbatical to a beautiful hotel across the ocean. Elena is a28 yr old college student, home for vacation. Her father is the manager of the hotel that Lucy is staying in. Elena , when home works as a lifeguard at the hotel pool. This is where Lucy and Elena meet. The sparks fly! I found this to be an easy read and very entertaining! 5 stars!!
I really like this book by Sommers. I honestly just read it because it was unlimited, but I am so so happy I decided to read this romance. Super solid read. Great Chemistry. Enjoyable Mains. Cute side little mystery that is solved quickly. I found that I didn't get bored at all reading this. 4.25 stars.
This was a quick, fun romance perfect for a beach or poolside read.
Physical Therapy student Elena Garcia returns home to the Spanish Island of Tenerife for summer break before grad school, and works as a lifeguard at the hotel her father manages. There she meets gorgeous American lawyer Lucy Holloway who has taken a sabbatical to regroup after a personal issue blows up in her face at work. The two ridiculously attractive women can't help but notice one another and their chemistry is palpable. But neither are looking for a relationship. Lucy is recovering from a painful breakup and Elena is focused on her career goals. But Elena is no stranger to summer flings. Lucy isn't looking for anything at all - but she finds Elena's seductive appeal too hard to resist.
While they try to pretend that it's just great sex, Lucy and Elena start to develop feelings for one another, though neither will admit it. But several weeks into their friendship when Elena's father gets accused of some impropriety at work, Lucy steps in to help - which blurs the lines even more. But what could possibly come of it? Elena is a 28 year old grad student about to start a physical therapy program in Washington D.C. and Lucy is a successful New York City lawyer at least a decade older than her. They're in completely different places in their lives. But is walking away before knowing what might be even an option?
While this is one of those unlikely-to-happen-in-real-life scenarios, it certainly works for a fairytale romance. I spent half a day with these characters and enjoyed it. I also appreciated having an epilogue where we got to see the outcome years later.
I received an ARC from Ylva Publishing for an honest review.
f/f hot summer romance This is the perfect read for a hot summer day - maybe at the pool, definitely while relaxing. And serendipitously I took this ARC with me to read while vacationing and soaking up the sun on the Canary islands. So I had not only the perfect setting for this romance but super-perfect because the book is set on Tenerife, the biggest island of the Canaries. It all starts with a fling, a fling that burns hot for several weaks (sleep is vastly overrated, right?). Casual sex is routine for Elena who is a charming player and life-guard at the hotel pool, not so much for Lucy, the somewhat uptight American hot-shot lawyer who has recently been badly burnt and heart-broken. Just when the fling is about to cool down a bit Lucy gets involved with helping Elena‘s family in a critical situation: bringing Lucy deeper into Elena‘s family and maybe her heart. I liked the family vibe this development brought to the story. It made the turn from fling to forever believable. I loved that we get to see Elena‘s and Lucy‘s life after the vacation. The secondary characters are a good addition. Having been many times to Tenerife I was a bit astonished that except for two short excursions the book is set mainly at the hotel / house of Elena’s parents when there is such a stunning landscape literally in the backyard. If you are looking for a light, low angst and hot summer read this is for you.
Thanks to Ylva for the ARC. The review is left voluntarily.
3.5 stars - I found myself pretty engrossed in the story all throughout. I thought Sommer's "In Too Deep" was a feel-good, angst-free age gap romance set in a picturesque Spanish island. The attraction-at-first-sight between Lucy and Elena felt positively genuine, and the dash of investigative flavor also added more credibility to their blossoming chemistry and relationship.
In this book, the plot and the characters could be deemed as hackneyed for an age-gap romance, but as a big lover of the said trope, everything just worked for me. Despite the lack of a remarkable narrative, I thought "In Too Deep" was still a thoroughly enjoyable read.
This was my second book by this author and I intend to read her other works. I really liked this even though it was an age gap.
Lucy Holloway needs an escape after her life implodes and decided to soak up sun on an island far away from her life in New York. She doesn't intend to get involved with anyone, but she can't resist the sexy lifeguard.
Elena Garcia is home for the holidays before she starts her physical therapy training. She notices Lucy right away and they hit off from the first moment and end up having casual sex. All it's supposed to be is a holiday fling, but when Elena's father is accused of fraud, Lucy steps in to help.
I liked the pace of this book and adored the setting. This was low angst overall and a very enjoyable book. I loved everything about it and look forward to her next book. I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
would like to thank netgalley and the publishers for letting me read this exciting book
the way the author pulled me into this story was intriguing, and kept me reading right into the night with the added bonus of the storyline
the two main characters from different parts of the spectrum...one a lawyer the other a championship swimmer never in a million years would they normally meet under normal circumstances
lucys life is in turmoil elena is home from her studies and just about to start her summer job as life guard
but when these two meet its lust at first sight....
but someone is out for revenge
have to say i loved how the author captured the magic of the islands and their culture plus the all of the characters in the book made you feel as though you knew them or saw them at the pool.... magical
3.75 stars This was a fun light vacation romance with a mystery wound into the middle of it. Sommers did a great job of creating enjoyable and believable main characters with some excellent side characters as well.
Lucy is fleeing from a broken heart (and a bit of a scandal) that enveloped her in NYC and winds up at a lovely resort in Tenerife (Canary Islands) to cool off for a bit. Elena is the daughter of the long-term manager of said resort and is back home for the summer, working as a lifeguard at the resort. Both women are not looking for anything serious and start a no strings situation, but feelings start to develop. Things are progressing in a pretty normal way when Elena’s dad gets accused of cooking the books at the resort and is summarily fired. Lucky that Lucy is a finance lawyer and can step in to play forensic accountant - with the help of Elena, they solve that mystery and then the relationship status is the only outstanding question.
The chemistry between the main characters was believable. One thing that I had a bit of a hard time with was that Lucy didn’t seem truly brokenhearted, even though it was clear that she was meant to be. You don’t learn what happened until a bit into the book, so I won’t spoil it, but the duration of the previous relationship and the time between the old and new relationships didn’t map out in a way that made sense to me.
I received an ARC from Net Galley and Ylva Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
Light and easy romance to read poolside or at the beach. Lucy Holloway is a forty year old NYC business attorney. She takes a month long holiday on Tenerife, an island off the coast of Spain. While there she meets Elena Garcia who is home for the summer before she starts physical therapy school in Washington DC. She is 28, a not alarming age gap. It starts as a summer fling slowly becoming more. When Elena’s father’s job is threatened Lucy doesn’t hesitate to help.
The island sounds beautiful and I was glad to learn a little more about it but most of the time is spent at the resort where Elena and her father work. The mystery about the father’s job resolves quickly and the culprit was easy to predict. Because it is a fling novel the heat kicks in early (before 20 percent). They do get to know each other better with back stories, but there isn’t build up or longing between the two. I did enjoy the epilogue seeing them few years later. A likable read but nothing that boosts it in to memorable or read again category.
Thank you to NetGalley and Ylva Publishing for the ARC in exchange for a voluntary review.
I loved Chemistry and Never Say Never, but this one didn’t do it for me. It felt too obvious and overdone. That said I did like both characters and the chemistry was there, but it didn’t move me like her other books. And, Lucy’s arc wasn’t realistic to me- she’s supposed to be totally heartbroken yet falls instantly in love basically…Elena’s very lovable, but... It’s a cute summer fling-to-forever story, perfect for the beach.
Short Summary: Heartbreak sends Lucy on an unplanned sabbatical to Tenerife with no end date in sight. What is in her sight is sexy lifeguard Elena, former pro-swimmer, who’s allergic to commitment, and whose family basically runs the hotel until scandal gets her father fired. Enter lawyer Lucy who is happy to help the family right the scales of justice, and might just get the girl too.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
Lucy takes a vacation to cool off after a scandal at work even though in my opinion it’s wasn’t her fault. She arrives at lovely resort in Tenerife where she meets Elena who returning for summer as a lifeguard while she studying to be physical therapy in the US her father is lifelong manager of the resort. Lucy and Elena catches each other eyes decides to have fling as they grow closer Elena father gets accused of something going on at the resort and Lucy is there to help. This is was a light cute romance with low on angst which was really wether Lucy and Elena wants something more then a fling. I like the secondary characters that was supportive.
A fun summery read! Just what I was in the mood for!
I liked both of the main characters.
Lucy is a confident, high powered, driven lawyer who has run away (taken a sabbatical) after personal hurt and humiliation. She spreads a map, points a finger and just like that, she's headed to the Canary Islands! The descriptions of resort life, scenery and food made me want to be there. She's given up on love and relationships.
Elena is a soon to be graduate student who comes home to the Canary Islands to spend her summer holiday with her family. She's a confident woman as well, but one who lost out on her dreams when an accident occurred. She's never been interested in a relationship, possibly because she is also very driven and does not like to be vulnerable.
Our MCs meet for a one night stand. I have to admit, that part of the story made me squirm a bit … but only because one night stands are completely out of my comfort zone!
Add in a mystery about who is doing dirty financial dealings at the hotel Elena's father runs and where Elana lifeguards at and where Lucy is staying and you're set up for changes to happen!
I loved watching the changes. I loved the best friends of both MCs. I loved Elana's family. And there's a satisfying HEA ending.
I received a review copy via NetGalley, all opinions are my own.
After a disastrous end to a relationship with a woman who lied about no longer being married, Lucy Holloway decides to take some well-deserved time for herself and travels to the island of Tenerife. At the hotel where she's staying, she meets Elena Garcia, a native of the island, who is home for vacations. The attraction between them is instantaneous, they decide to enjoy the summer together with no strings attached. Everything changes when Elena's father is accused of fraud. Lucy immediately offers to help. Together, they work to unveil the mystery that got him into this situation. The novel is incredibly well-written and the enigma of what is happening at the hotel makes you stay glued to the pages. The book's pacing is great and the development of Lucy and Elena's relationship feels natural. There are some amazing descriptions of views of the island and of delicious local food. The book makes you feel like you traveled to the island yourself. Sommers delivers a delightful story, perfect to read on the beach, enjoying a nice cocktail.
Maybe this is on me, but I dnf’d at 20%. I can usually handle a fast-paced romance, and it’s always better when it’s gay, but I was sorta bored with this one. I didn’t feel particularly attached to either MC and I’m not a huge fan of insta-lust (please just let me yearn), so overall it was a miss. I do think it would be perfect if you're looking for an easy summer read with spice, just don’t think this one was for me.
A huge thanks to Ylva Publishing and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
