Lose Me #4

Rate this book
I don’t fall to my death: I jump.

There are these defying moments in everyone’s lives, those intense few seconds, or even less, when you have to make a decision with your heart, quicker than your brain is able to process things.
And in those milliseconds, your heart makes up your mind for you.
Your heart knows.
Well, it always has known, it’s just that now you know too.
Your stupid, stupid brain catches up.

The day my father died, that was the day that my heart stopped believing in God.
Two years later, when I was almost eighteen, the girl I had given my heart to, left me without a word of warning or explanation. That was the day that my heart stopped beating.
And now, four years after that, this is what my heart does: It tells me to jump.
I am standing on the edge of a cliff, in one of the most beautiful places in the world. But my heart is racing, my stomach is churning and cold sweat drenches the back of my neck. I look down. Ten meters or more of solid, jagged-sharp rocks and then a glittering emerald pool of water at the bottom.
And also, she. She is at the bottom, in the water. In danger.

She.
The girl whose name I can’t even mention in my own private thoughts, or it will destroy me, the girl who ripped out my heart and ruined my life.
That girl.
In the water. Ten meters below the cliffs. And that’s when I know it.
My body hits the cold, freezing water. It’s hard and solid like cement, and pain shoots up my entire body as the breath catches in my throat.
And then there’s nothing.

The pop idol. Everyone knows my name. Everyone knows my story, how I started from nothing and shot to stardom within the past year. I sell our stadiums within hours after announcing a new tour. I have everything, or so people think. What they don’t know is that everything is fake. My music, my success, my smiles. Even my name. I had to change it four years ago, when a girl broke my heart and ruined my life.

I am starting a new tour in a few months, and I need at least five new songs. Problem is? I can’t write a single note. I am blocked.

The hired help. I met her when we were both sad teens, each lost in our own tragedies. But with her, I came alive. We forged a bond that I thought would last a lifetime. I used to look at her and think that I could never stop. Then, one day, she told me she never wanted to see me again. And now, four years later? My team of assistants (ex-assistants, I should say, as they will all be fired soon) have hired an English lit student to help me out of my creative block. She is good, they say, she has won awards for her poetry. A genius of her generation.

But when I see her? It’s her. The girl who destroyed me.
The girl who stopped loving me on a whim and disappeared, taking my dreams with her.
It’s four years later, and it’s four years too soon to be seeing her again.

She pierced my heart.

She ruined my life.

I hate her.

But when I look at her, she’s not the girl I hate: She is the girl who used to be my reason for existing.

Pierce Me is a second-chance angsty romance about a pop idol and the girl who destroyed him. Prepare to be destroyed. The darkness will be off the charts with this one -but so will the hope be. So will the heat. And so will the love.

Pierce Me is hate-to-love complete stand-alone. It’s an angsty rom com filled to the brim with darkness, romance and hope
Tropes: pop idol romance, K pop idols, enemies to lovers, tortured boys, found family, Jane Austen retelling, Peter Pan angst, cute dog. CW for a lot of darkness and traumatic childhood events, but all of it lit up brightly by hope. Contact the author for a detailed list.

Pierce Me has a HAE and no cliffhangers.

Welcome to the world of M.C. FRANK's books, where characters aren't going to have an easy time of it: They will find themselves in icy-cold dystopian worlds where kissing is forbidden (among other things), or in green forests ruled by evil Sheriffs. If they're in Jane Austen's England, they have to be running away from a traumatic childhood, or if they are in our contemporary world, they're scared they'll die before they have finished high school. That sort of thing.
Don't worry, though, she knows we all need a little hope and joy in our lives, so there's a good dose of those as well in everything she writes.
M.C. Frank (writer, reader, designer, physicist and teacher, to name a few) has been living in a world of stories ever since she can remember (that's before she knew how to write). She started writing them down when she could no longer stand the characters in her head screaming at her to give them life, and while those first scribblings weren't exactly good (nor were they books, although she insisted on calling them that), they were enough for her to discover her passion in life.
She got her university degree in physics a few years ago (yes, she's like Sheldon, only a bit crazier!) and is now free to pursue her love of reading and writing, as well her free-lance job as editor-in-chief. She lives with her 'dude' in a home filled with candles, laptops and notebooks, where she rearranges her overflowing bookshelves every time she feels stressed.
Which is often, since (as you might have noticed) she doesn't pick the easiest subjects for her novels.

The following review was based off of an ARC copy I have received. The following review is from my own personal thoughts and options.

It's been hard to find books that have rendered me completely and literally speechless. Pierce Me has a perfect mix of everything; romance, emotions, literally everything.

I could not put this book down. Once I started reading, I had to finish. I could not stop willingly, I had to force myself to take breaks for my sanity. I CANNOT recommend this enough.

I was kindly gifted this book to read as an ARC and just want people to know that all thoughts and opinions on this book are my own.
I have just completed this book as I am writing this and wow.. I have never been left so speechless. This book is just the perfect amount of everything? I have never been a big romance fan but I think this may be changing. I can not wait to read more by this author.. You know those books that leave a heavy feeling in your heart and make you think but in the most amazing way possible? This.. this is that book. I think I can go as far as to say that this may be my book of the year so far. The amount of times I teared up or cried, so the pre reminder for the tissues needed is perfect! 🤣 the playlists, the writing, character developments, the clear amount of time the author has spent writing in depth about the emotions of the main character. I can’t rave about this book enough and I can’t wait for the next in the series in 2024!! Please, if you’re a romance reader and enjoy books like this, please take the time to read it when it comes out September 8th. I promise you, it’ll be the best thing you do in a long time. (ITS OUT NOW)
I know this is not my kind of review I usually write but I just had to share this and the way I am feeling right now. Thank you again for trusting me with this.

Interesting story with interesting characters. One star off for cliffhanger. I will probably miss the second book or have to read one again to get the vibe again. No thanks.

Pierce Me is a difficult book to read and, most definitely, a similarly difficult book to review. The actual words, the composition and the premise are original and quite personal as it takes us into the mind of two very damaged characters. Eden experienced a trauma too horrific to believe, but the face she put on for the public temporarily hid her pain. Isaiah is a music virtuoso with many different instruments, but he's a phenomenon with his voice. When Eden and Issy first meet, it's in the woods where they are free to express whatever they want and to know each other's soul. The majority of the book deals with the aftermath of their breakup, but because of a lack of communication, Issy has no idea about what really happened. He becomes a rockstar known for the anger reflected in his songs. He claims that someone broke him; no, destroyed him and it's about her, Eden, he writes. When Eden walked away, Issy lost the life that he knew because of Eden's father's accusations. He struggles through this anger throughout the book, only pausing to doubt himself when he finally sees his heartbreaker, again. This book would have been much better if there weren't so much repetition of situations and dialogue. Issy's inner musings reflected his tortured soul, but he didn't believe in God and had no hope. There were flashes of hope throughout the book when he finally realized that he was at the end of his rope. All the while, Eden stood as his rock, albeit damaged, and yet what she had experienced through her life didn't destroy her soul. Her panic attacks were frightening and the way she was treated by some of the secondary characters, made me want to devise a plan to make them suffer! At the end, Issy shows how much he has changed and I was certain that with her love for Issy, Eden would learn to trust that he saw her for the person she was. It takes a twist right at the end and nothing could have prepared me for the devastation I felt. The well-placed cliffhanger has me counting the minutes until the next book is released!

I was fortunate enough to snag an ARC of this book and I absolutely loved it, though it made me ugly cry in the end. I love all of M.C. Frank’s angsty new adult coming of age books and this was absolutely brill as well. At 20yo, Isaiah aka Issy Woo is a pop star with a broken soul - because his first love destroyed him when they were both 16. His past comes haunting and Isaiah’s and Eden’s lives unravel in the process while he’s on tour. I loved the tension - I didn’t know what Eden’s deal was until half of the book (though there were breadcrumbs); I loved the song lyrics - ahhh, be still my heart! I adored the angsty interplay between the two main characters and the cast of their supportive friends & family. I loved how this book crosses over to the author’s other books - some lovable broken (now healed) characters make an appearance. I also applaud the author’s continued love and admiration for Greece and even writing in making movies of Rakes of Ruin (the author’s other series). Agonized over the high stakes hopeful ending (though my wine got diluted quite a bit towards the end from all the crying) and now I can’t wait for the 2nd book in the duology. Unputdownable!

Recommended for lovers of angsty new adult enemies-to-lovers, second chances romantasy; probably also suitable for higher YA.

Trigger warnings: will be difficult to read for survivors of ptsd and mental abuse.

- Summary -

Pierce Me is an angsty second-chance romance about a tormented pop star idol and the girl who destroyed him. His heartbreaker.

So, what happens when she shows up on your European tour as "hired help" to get you out of your writers block. A rollercoaster. That's what.

Your assistants claim she's good and have won awards for her poetry. A genius of her generation. What they don't know is, she's the girl who destroyed you.

- My Thoughts -

Personally, I struggled with the style and format of the writing, but since this was an ARC copy, I can't fault that in my review.

Unpopular opinion, but I did not like our MMC the iconic pop star. I found him, immature, rude and WAY too dramatic. I understand he had a hard past, but his woo is me attitude got repetitive.

Our FMC, on the other hand, I loved. Despite her past (intertwined with his) she was still a very loveable, caring and kind character.

Overall I enjoyed the concept and the story. It was a slow start, but I found it to get more engaging in the last third of the book. But just when it was getting good, it ended with a cliffhanger 🙃

I'm looking forward to reading the second half and and hoping we get more from our FMC. This book was highly MMC focused and I would love to get the other side of the story.

Big thanks to M.C. Frank for providing me with this ARC copy to read & review.

If you are looking for a romance you will not find it in this book. This is not a typical meet cute, fall in love, third act break up and it is all good in the end romance anyhow. Isaiah and Eden are too broken for that. They've been cut too deeply. The scars are too thick. Oh, there is a meet cute, and a misunderstanding, and a grand gesture but somehow they come in the wrong order. At the wrong time. In the wrong place. This is a love story. Of a love so strong it pierces more deeply than either could imagine.

But mostly it is Isaiah's story. His journey through the darkest hurt to finally understanding and ultimately devastation. His growth to learn who he is, who his true friends are and finding his voice. Threaded through his story we get glimpses of Eden's story and her incredible sisters. This story is just so emotionally crushing it is addictive and you can't stop reading. Complete angst layered with bubbly sweetness that somehow works and fills this book of utter despair with sparks of beauty and hope.

That ending - OMG that ending! It was inevitable based on the trajectory but oh so poignant and painful with a clear ring of truth. So glad Haunt Me is there to pick up the pieces because the story could not end there but I just know it's going to cause a serious case of book hangover.

Torment to spare

The narrator of this book, Isaiah, is in so much pain, it’s hard not to spiral down into his misery. But as the reader, I wanted him to recover and find some happiness, so I kept on reading through the anguish, and I was rewarded with a glimmer of hope at the end.
Although as a pop idol adored by millions, Isaiah should feel happy and successful, he has in fact achieved his massive success via songs chronicling his heartbreak and devastation. He fell deeply in love while in school, but one day, out of the blue, the girl he loved broke it off without explanation. Now, four years later, he sees her in the audience of one of his sold-out concerts, and her reaction is as extreme as his — she passes out from a panic attack and is rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, Isaiah, “Issy” to his fans, is trying to write for his new album, but is blocked. His Uber-wealthy friend lends him his yacht to get away from it all, in exchange for a concert series in Greece, so Isaiah finds himself sailing around the Greek islands with band mates and other friends, who arrange for a talented poet to come work with him in an effort to break through his writing block. Of course, this poet turns out to be none other than his lost love, and both of them stumble around in misery until they finally manage to speak openly about the past. This is a helpful example of how holding onto your pain just keeps hurting you more and more — they have a terrible time getting past all the trauma, and they are lucky to be in beautiful surroundings that offer some balm for their pain. There are unexpected turns of events which throw things into a different perspective, which is a relief for this reader, who could hardly bear to keep reading about this couple’s torments. I would not like to experience such all- consuming love again myself. But I would like to go to Corfu, which is brilliantly described. There is more to come in a sequel, which I look forward to in hope that they both survive their star-crossed passion.

YA Romance, Dark Romance,
Pop star Trope, Lost love returns / Second Chance Romance, "Hate" to Love, Fall for the Heartbreaker/"badboy", Fake to hide the pain
Trigger Warning : Mental illness, Suicide, Death of Parent
Extra Warning : Cliff Hanger, To be continued in next book

Anguished filled, Emotion Striking.
Very pain filled book that engages the want for the main character to heal and recover along with find happiness. Struck alot of personal emotions.
Have tissues ready! Sadness, Anger, Hopefullness, etc.

Money doesn't buy happiness is a big idea within this book. Also, holding onto pain instead of dealing with it causes more damage and hurt. I wish that the mention or inclusion of getting help was presented, especially as a YA romance. Even if it was just mentioned as an option or an after thought, but that is the advocate side of things.

Shows different perspectives, has unexpected twists,

The first 30% of the book was alittle slower pace, but the rest of the book was very engaging.

Did have some repetition at times. I also wish the main character had more depth or explanation instead of mainly pain and anguish.

Overall, looking forward to the second book.

I received and ARC and am voluntarily leaving my unbiased review.

Wow! This book had me going every which way. Please note that this book definitely could have triggers for some people, please see the author for further clarification. For those of us that it won't trigger, it's still a dark book that deals in trauma, loss, deceit, and emotional pain. But with all that, there is an undercurrent of hope and faith. The leading lad and leading lady have so much in common in their shared pain and getting lost with their feelings. While they are together they are nothing but loss and love. Do those two feelings even go together? Well when they are saving each other from their separate pain, it does. But when they are tragically ripped apart, will each of them grow? Or will they self destruct? When they come back together again, will they each be able to handle their feelings? Will misunderstandings on both ends destroy what hope and faith they may still cling to? You will not be disappointed in reading to find out! BUT... please note that this book is the first in a duet and ends in what I would classify as the middle of the book. So, be sure to have Haunt Me ready to go as your next read.

This book had me feeling some type of way. First of all, the MMC was just pissing me off. Not in a way of wanting to dnf…but in the way that made me want to grab him and yell at him to stop acting dumb and just make smart choices already!!! The amounts of huffing and puffing and frustration I let out was intense for the first half of the book! It was the good kind of pissed off and I could not freaken put the book down.

And then the roller coaster started. I was happy, I was sad, I was frustrated…happy, sad, frustrated some more. On repeat for the last half of the book.

When I started the book yesterday, I got through 5 chapters and wondered what I was getting myself into because I was already feeling all the emotions. Today I just sat all day…14 whole hours! And just could

Pierce Me drew me immediately into the raw, real pain of both Isaiah and Eden. I adored all the side characters and family (found and blood) vibes! I’m not a romance reader (especially absolutely no smut), but this wasn’t too much for me. The ending was completely unexpected but also made sense. I had to recover, and my mind was feeling for a few days afterwards. I’m really excited to see if M.C. Frank published a sequel or parallel with Eden’s POV. I don’t know what. But it’s gonna be good! The message of Hope being such a hard thing to grapple with sometimes was really timely for me. I felt I was right there with the characters, experiencing it all! As a musician, Isaiah’s music was fascinating to me as well. Highly recommend this book to any romance lover!

I am going to be honest, this book started off very slow for me.

I struggled a little with falling into the story. I liked the characters, the story line, and the way it was written. But it wasn’t grabbing my attention at first.

But something kept telling me to keep reading. There was a reason I wanted to read it in the first place.

I am so glad that I kept reading because out of nowhere the story pulled my attention and I was hooked!

I really enjoyed getting to see the different sides of both Isaiah and Edina’s life and how they intertwined.

As much as I struggled getting into the story initially, I can’t wait for the next book!

It took me a while to finish this book. I do not have an artistic bone in my body. And with the MMC, Izzy Woo, aka Isaiah, being a rock star, his thoughts and reasonings were just beyond me. I found it all to be so repetitive and 'woo is me' feeling. I am so glad I hung in there tho. I loved getting to know the cause of his heartbreak, Eden. She was a precious girl and she made this a 5 star read. Lots of emotion.
Book 2 in this duet will be their earlier love story as well as the conclusion of their second chance story. I will be so looking forward to that.

Issy Woo is a pop star that has a past with a girl that haunted him, but he could never forget her. All of a sudden, in the least expected way, she comes back. This is a story of love, loss, music, and raw emotions.

This book was so emotional to the point that I cried during the first chapter. It did take a me a bit to read because of the topics.

(TW: Depression, anxiety, suicide, death of parent)

I will say this was written beautifully, but it was a tad repetitive at times. Also, a lot of the song lyrics appeared multiple times, so I ended up skimming over them.

But overall, I enjoyed this book!

I give this a 3.5 ⭐️

Eden and Isiah were a tragedy from the start.
The beginning was definitely slow and I couldn’t get into it until about 30-40%, the plot was good but I feel like it dragged a bit more than what it needed to. They are from different worlds but mentally they are the same, the heartbreak, the survival they endure in different aspects was interesting to read. I enjoyed the book and I will be reading the next one (left on a cliffhanger). I want to see the character growth for both of them and where they end up in life.

This book was good. I enjoyed reading Isaiah and Eden’s story. The side chart were great. I did get frustrated because I felt like it took forever for someone to finally tell Isaiah Eden’s truth but when it happened, I couldn’t atop reading. The beginning was a little slow for me but after Eden cam into the story, it took off. I did take off for the cliffhanger the story ends on. I can not wait until the next one comes out so I find out what happens to Isaiah and Eden.

I was lucky enough to receive a complimentary copy from

This is the first MC Frank book that I have read and I have no words.
I could not put this book down!! It took me one day to read this and I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing it was.
I went through every single feeling within minutes of each other. Anger, sadness, happiness, heartbreak confusion and more. The fact that MC Frank was able to bring all that out in a short setting was amazing.
This book will live in my head rent free forever.
I absolutely can not wait for the next book to come out. I need it like yesterday 😂😂

Pierce Me is the first book I have read from M.C. Frank and I can say that I will watch for more of this author’s books. This book started out a bit slow but once I continued on, I was hooked. The author does a great job of describing the scenes and that to me as a reader it can go either way, too much I skim over or just the right amount. For me, it was just right. I don’t dive into plot or spoilers to leave some fun for the next readers but this was a great read!

This book was kindly received as an arc. Opinions are my own and honest.

My goodness - that was intense. And heartbreaking (ha! no pun intended, you'll see when you read it). It did make me cry. More than a few times. Very loosely inspired by Persuasion but darker with a far more twisted backstory than Anne and Wentworth (a much younger Wentworth and all that comes with that) and only half way through their story. It was gripping.

By the by, for anyone who cares about these things, my kindle has this at 677 pages cover to cover (about 640 ish for the actual work).

This is a heartbreakingly beautiful love story between a pop star and a writer. Make sure you have the Kleenex ready because Isaiah and Eden’s story takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Pierce Me is a well written, captivating story with believable characters that make this a five star read. This is book one in the Heartbreaker Duet and I look forward to reading the next book. The description of this book does not do justice to this book. I didn’t not expect to love this book and I mean that. I expected to maybe like it but the whole rockstar plot just doesn’t make me excited but I thought why not give a try. Holy freaking emotions. This author knows how to bring out every single one possible during this book including break your heart and make you ugly cry. You feel for the FMC so much and as the story goes on you learn more and more about her and why she is the way she is. Why everything happened the way it did. All this build up to a point you think you can breath fully again and then it ends with you shocked and desperate to know how things will end. I loved this story and the message it brings to reader. ❤️

I was struggling to read the book up to 30%, after that you get pulled into the story. We follow Izzy Woo, aka Isaiah whom is heartbroken by a girl who resides in his heart, Eden. You get sucked into a storm of love, hate, anger, hurt, happiness and just wanting to smash Izzy and Eden together.

I still recommend this book, you do get left at a cliff hanger :P, this is my first MC Frank book i've picked up can't wait to read the next one when it comes out.

I had the amazing opportunity to read this book before it came out and when I say JAW DROPPING this book will leave you happy, sad, speechless, in tears, filled with hope, and torn with every emotion. It is a MUST READ. I read this book in two days. That’s how captivating it is. I couldn’t stop. I would rate this book 10/10 and definitely in my top five favorite books. Can’t wait for the duet. 💜

The story of Eden & Isaiah will have you in a WHIRLPOOL of emotions! I mean angry, sad, happy, crying, laughing, etc. all of the above. A few plot twists I didn’t expect at all. It started off slow, but it definitely got good ! I will say it may be difficult for readers who struggle with mental health, ptsd & mental abuse. I can’t wait to continue the story when the second (& last) book comes out. As I was reading the story , I was picturing the scenes in my head & I felt like this book would make a fantastic movie , (although it definitely wouldn’t beat the book) anyways go snag a copy !!

The setting was well put together and the side characters. I loved most of the main characters and their stories were awesome. I couldn't feel for the main character though and wish the author would have given him more depth rather than just a lot of angst. I didn't have any tears, but had some smiles.
