The Lost Daughters #3

The Royal Daughter

Rate this book
“My darling B, my heart, my soul. I only wish we’d had longer. Longer to search for the daughter that I should never have given up. The daughter that I should have been brave enough to keep, brave enough to tell you about, brave enough to tell the world about.”

London, Present day. As Ella looks down at a faded black and white photograph of an unknown woman and child alongside a yellowing piece of sheet music, she wonders how the two things can possibly relate to her own family. The items were left for her family at Hope’s House, a home for unmarried mothers whose babies were adopted.

Soon Ella learns that the photograph was taken on the picturesque Greek island of Skopelos, nestled in the turquoise calming waters of the Aegean sea, and that the woman in the photo holds the key to her family’s heritage. As she opens up to her new flame Gabriel, he tells her that she should go to the island to unravel the mystery and that he will wait for her.

Though Ella is torn she decides to go and once there, she discovers a heart-wrenching story of a royal family forced to leave their country for a new life in London, and of a girl with a unique talent for music who captured the heart of a young violinist but was forced to leave him and London behind for the sake of her family.

When Ella discovers the sacrifice made by the two young lovers and comes face to face with her forgotten Greek family, will their story give her the courage to follow her own heart back to London and Gabriel, or will the beauty of the island capture her heart and lead her to a new love altogether?

A totally addictive and heart-breaking novel about the strength of family ties and never giving up on true love. Perfect for fans of Santa Montefiore, Lucinda Riley and Victoria Hislop. This novel can be enjoyed as a standalone.

This is book 3 in a proposed series of 8 books:

#1 Italy - The Italian Daughter (1946 post-WW2)
#2 Cuba - The Cuban Daughter (1950s pre-revolution)
#3 Greece - The Royal Daughter (1967 coup/depose the last King)

All the books in this series are set in different countries at different times in history and are all dual timeline stories that focus “on a group of women who are called to a lawyer’s office in London. They are told that their grandmothers were born at Hope House, a home for unmarried mothers and are each given a letter and a box which contains clues about their past - a past none of them even knew they were searching for.”

Things I loved:
✔️author makes sure we fall in love with her characters AND the country
✔️timelines/characters connected through a love of music
✔️becoming aware of family secrets; realizing the heartbreak yet seeing the love and acceptance…and hope
✔️focus on restoration
✔️beautiful balance of loss and hope/joy
✔️the mystery and following the clues

This talented author takes three main characters, all with individual story arcs, blends in historical elements and leaves you wanting more! Lane takes the heartbreak of the past, weaves it with hope, travel, and the joy of unexpected love and reminds readers of the pressures of royalty, arranged marriage, loss and adoption. You’ll immediately connect to her main characters and become swept away by the location. Watching for timeline clues will add to your enjoyment!

I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and was under no obligation to provide a review.

I'm so happy to be sharing the third book in The Lost Daughters series with you! When I set out to write to this series, I wanted to take my readers around the world to beautiful locations. My goal was to make you - my reader - fall in love with each country, as well as all the characters.

So before you start reading, be prepared to fall in love with Greece... as well as with Alexandra and Ella. Alexandra's story may just break your heart though!

Tai jau trečioji "Prarastų dukrų" serijos knyga. Visos šios istorijos tikrai įtraukiančios bei lengvai skaitomos.

Kaip ir kitose knygose taip ir šioje. Elai į rankas pakliūva paslaptinga dėžutė, kurioje yra keletas užuominų. Dėžutèje slepiasi partiūra bei nuotrauka.. Draugės paskatinta Ela kreipiasi į Gabrielių, Londono simfoninio orekstro smuikininką. Merginos mano, jog jis galės padėti išsiaiškinti kam priklausė paslaptingoji partiūra.
Ela net nenutuokia, jog sutiks senai prarastą jaunystės simpatiją.
Visos šeimos paslaptys veda į Graikiją. Ela nusprendžia leistis į kelionę ir įminti šią mįslę.

Kiekvienoje iš šių istorijų slepiasi daug šeimos paslapčių, o dèžutėse slypi raktas, kuris padės jas įminti. Galbūt šių knygų siužetas ir nėra pats originaliausias ir galima nuspėti keletą siužeto vingių, tačiau man tai nei kiek nesugadino skaitymo malonumo. Žinojau, jog renkuosi lengvą isroriją, tad didelių lūkesčių tikrai neturėjau.
Vasara bei atostogomis dvelkiantis skaitinys, kuris leis nors trumpam atsipūsti bei pabėgti nuo kasdienybės. Mano nuomone, ši knyga puikiai tinka atostogoms. Ar tiesiog norint pasinerti į paslaptingą bei nereikalaujančią didelio susikaupimo knygą.

Griekenland, 1967.

Some readers who were not around and/or cognizant of the truth of living as a teenager in 1973 might not believe that there was any stigma to being an unwed teen then. After all, it was considered the age of "free love." Well, I just celebrated my 50th High School Reunion. I was 18 years old in 1973, the same age as the main character in this story who finds herself an unmarried, pregnant teenager. No, I never experienced that. But, I can tell you that it was more than just frowned upon. It was still covered up, hidden and spoken of in whispers. The "pill" may have been introduced in the '60's, but it certainly wasn't widely used by teenagers, and certainly never provided by their parents. And, it was also a time when parents had tremendous influence over their "children." There were no outside influences, i.e., social media, to sway minds in any direction. So, the events portrayed in this book are far from fiction for more people than you can imagine. I know. I remember how it was in "those days."

This is a terrific addition to a great series. I enjoyed it.

1970𝘴 : Alexandra has fled her home country of Greece and has learnt to live in London, but when her heart is captivated by a Cellist and their love may just span decades despite the storms brewing to set them apart.

𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘋𝘢𝘺 : Ella no longer find any joy in her job. Her heart still hurts but also aches to hold a paintbrush. With a chance encounter and a little push from the past, Ella is encouraged to let go of things and learn to live for herself.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘰𝘺𝘢𝘭 𝘋𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘳 is an emotional and enchanting read, spanning decades apart with the common thread of love still lingering.

I didn't think this book would be as emotional as it was. But it is a well executed plot with a well established storyline and I can hardly wait for the next few books which were given a few minor spoilers in the epilogue.

I am loving this series, again Soraya M Lane has taken me on a journey of secrets and such love as we go between the 1960’s and 1970’s to present day, come along and meet Ella and Alexandra and the wonderful characters that add to the story and such a gorgeous location, who doesn’t want to visit Greece.

London, present day Ella is an art dealer in London and she loves her job, but when the family gets a letter from a lawyer to tell them there is something for her grandmother’s estate, Ella is keen to find out what it is when she arrives and is handed a small box with a faded photo of a woman and a young girl and a sheet of music, and discovers that it appears that her grandmother was adopted Ella jumps at the chance to do some searching, could these two items uncover the truth of the families heritage.

Through her research she meets up with someone she went to school with, Gabriel she also had a crush on him then and he helps her discover who wrote the music and she also is sure that the photo was taken in Greece, a trip there is essential.

What she finds will open her heart to a new member of her family and discover what happened to a young Alexandra when Greece changed back in 1967 when she was moved to London and her beautiful romance with B what happened to them as young lovers will bring you to tears, the music that bought them together and all that happened to them, lots of tears and smiles.

I loved this one so much, it is an emotional story in such a beautiful setting as we learn Alexandra’s story and get to know Ella and see her make changes in her life and fall in love with Gabriel, I do highly recommend this on and am looking forward to the next one in the series.

My thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my copy to read and review.

Get out your tissues. This is my favourite type of novel. Two parallel stories. One in the past and one in the present. Ella is given a box with clues leading to her past. From there we read about the life and love of the person who left the clues. This is the 3rd novel in The Lost Daughter series. It’s a great series. I look forward to the next book. The Sapphire Daughter coming out next near.

I finished The Royal Daughter by Soraya Lane last night before I went to sleep. This is the third book in The Lost Daughters Series. I know there is at least one more coming but, I honestly hope she doesn’t end there.I actually think seven books would be a better ending point. If you haven’t read any of them yet, I highly recommend them. They are stand alone novels and only have a few minor characters in common so you can jump in with this one or go back to the first one. I promise you won’t be lost.

Soraya Lane is responsible for my jump into historical fiction. She has a way of developing her characters thereby making you want to know them better and have an interest in what is happening to them. The first book I read of hers took place during the war and I opened the book with trepidation. I didn’t think I would make it all the way through. Imagine my surprise when I couldn’t put the book down. I started following her and the rest is history. Literally. Now, I read a lot of Historical Fiction.

The main characters in these books find out they have family members that were given up for adoption years ago. The background and circumstances of each story is different. As you can guess from the titles the locations are different. Their order is The Italian Daughter, The Cuban Daughter and The Royal Daughter taking place in Greece. They all have a few different locations. I love to travel with the characters to new lands they haven’t visited and see it through their eyes. You meet some locals and the food they eat is an experience you don’t want to miss.

All of the stories are heartbreaking but this one is so moving. The music they speak of is almost a character in itself. It speaks to my heart. I walked down the aisle to the main song that is the center of this book and was left as a clue. This book teaches us to never give up on true love. Never give up on the love of your family. This is such a heartwarming and heartbreaking book. This book will elicit a deep sigh of satisfaction as you read the last word.

If you love Historical Fiction, Love stories, mysteries or women’s fiction, you will love this book and the series. The Sapphire Daughter is due out on March 8th. You have plenty of time to get caught up and ready for it if you decide to read the whole series. If not, at least look at this beautifully written book as your next read. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Don’t forget to support the authors you read by leaving a review!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from #Netgalley, #Bookouture and #Soraya Lane. Thank you. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Z bohaterkami pierwszych dwóch tomów skosztowaliśmy klimatu Kuby i Włoch, a tym razem zamieszkująca w Londynie miłośniczka sztuki, Ella, odnajduje w pudełku należącym do jej przodkini tropy kierujące ją do klimatycznej Grecji.

To piękna historia miłosna z muzyką, sztuką i inspirującą Grecją w tle mówiąca również o utracie, tęsknocie, szukaniu własnego miejsca w świecie i spełnianiu marzeń. To też opowieść o relacjach rodzinnych, czasem tych trudnych i bolesnych i tych, które warto pielęgnować. To podróż pełna wewnętrznych odkryć, ale też magicznych krajobrazów, dźwięków muzyki i bogactwa sztuki, a autorka zgrabnie wzbogacając ją o wątek romantyczny czyni z niej cudownie ciepłą i urzekającą opowieść.

Sterren: 4.0 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Soraya Lane takes us back to Hope House and the mysterious little boxes that link the past and the present in the third installment of The Lost Girls series.

In The Royal Daughter, we travel back and forth from Greece to London and back again as Ella tries to determine the meaning of the mysterious objects left behind in a tiny little box found at a soon to be demolished Hopes House. The objects mean very little to her but somehow they are tied to her grandmother and she’s determined to get to the bottom of things. Her search for answers reunites her with the boy she had a crush on in school and reignites her passion for art.

Alexandra’s life was turned upside down when her mother died in a tragic accident. She was uprooted from her home in Greece and moved to London to begin a different life in the home of her mother’s family. Just as she began to find her way in life, her absentee father returns to take her home to marry her off to restore his name. But she had found a passion and a love and harbored a secret that led her to Hopes House and eventually forced her to abandon everything.

How are these ladies connected…not necessarily in a way you might think but love, passion and music both define them and bring them together. You’ll fall in love with this story, especially with picturesque Greece as the backdrop! I cannot wait for the next installment!

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Bookouture and Soraya Lane for an early copy of this book! It was well worth the wait!!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Royal Daughter' by Soraya Lane.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Soraya Lane, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication Date 12th October 2023.

This is the third book I have read by this author. It is also the third book in the 'Lost Daughter' series but can be read as a standalone. I have also read the first book in this gorgeous series 'The Italian Daughter' and the second book 'The Cuban Daughter' which I would also highly recommend.

This novel consists of a prologue, 35 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

Well I am ABSOLUTELY gutted to come to the end of this book as it ends my stunning sofa holiday 😭

This book is beautifully written and completely absorbs you in the stunning atmosphere of Greece completely sucking you in with the vivid descriptions leaving you feel the warmth of the the sun and smell of the gorgeous cooking. The synopsis and cover suits the storyline perfectly.

The storyline is authentic, unique and realistic as well as easy to read and heart-warming. It is just one of those absolutely stunning books that promises the reader gets completely lost in the pages for hours. I absolutely loved the beginning where we meet Alex in 1973 in London, to being by Ella's side in London present day where she is given her box from Hope House and all the way through the journey to Greece and more!!! I genuinely felt like I had packed my suitcase leaving rainy Wales for the stunning Greek sun. I could see the stunning island of Skopelos, hear the violin playing in the orchestra, feel Alex's heartbreak and walked along with Ella on her journey to discovering her family's past. There was heartbreak with Alex losing her mum and going through hell with her disgraceful father, love with Ella and Gabriel and Alex and Bernard, devastation when truths were discover too late, anger at Alex's so called father and just so, so much more!!! One moment I was crying with sadness and the next with joy and happiness!!! Seriously make sure you have the tissues at the ready as very rare I am emotional unless there is animals involved but this book even had me blubbering it was so raw and emotionally packed!!! What happened to some of these characters was unbelievably cruel and I had tears streaming down my face. You will also want to book the day off whatever you had planned as once you pick up this book and turn the pages I can guarantee you will not want to put it down!! I found myself picking it up every spare second I had and not wanting to put it down so ended up reading it in one sitting in the end!! I loved that Ella started with just two clues and then following her as it took her all over Greece and London. It was definitely a unique way of exploring places and I am looking forward to seeing if this is how the rest of the series will go. The storyline was filled with a range of emotions and was heartwarming, devastating and had lies, lost and renewed love, relationships, family, friendship and history all going on in this beautiful atmosphere. I loved the fact that we get to read both past and present time lines and Soraya has woven them together absolutely perfectly!! It felt like a lovely break away from a rainy Wales!! I loved how the story ended and I would love to read more about the life in this gorgeous Greek island of Skopelos. An absolutely stunning read!!!

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

Clear your schedules, grab your tissues and get ready to go on a journey of a lifetime!!!

Although this is the third book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

The characters were all unique with their own realistic traits, strengths and weaknesses. It was intriguing to watch

Ella and Gabriel's & Alex and Bernard's relationships grow, develop and change throughout the the storyline. I genuinely felt sorry for Alex throughout but also Ella as she had so much to consider while learning new things constantly about her family. It was also intriguing to see how not only Ella and Gabriel's & Alex and Bernard's relationships changed throughout the book but also how the relationships changes between these characters and their friends and family members including Alex's father and her Aunt and cousins and Ella's mum and her Aunt. It was absolutely amazing to watch the personalities and relationships between all the characters grow, develop and bond and although I don't believe their story will be told in this series again I would love to see what happens in the future with Ella, Gabriel and the future families. I adored Alex's mother's side of her family and how they were so welcoming and loving and each of these characters stories would make beautiful books which I would love to read!! Hint hint Soraya!!! All characters worked perfectly with the storyline and I would love to meet them again and hope to see this made into a series or even a movie!!!

Well done Soraya on another absolutely stunning addition in a gorgeous series, I will definitely be looking for your books any time I need to be swept off to another country!!!

A MASSIVE WELL DONE to Soraya on yet another HUGE success!!! I loved every page of your book and I cannot wait to read more of your past and hopefully future books. This is the exact reason you are one of my favourite authors! Here's to your next success 🥂

Overall a true page turning, perfect and stunning romance that will sweep you off your feet and land you in Greece and in the past!!

Córka z Grecji przeczytana podczas wakacji w Grecji :)

What an emotional rollercoaster. So sad three times over, but joyous too, with a twist or two. The dual timeline has you paying attention to every detail of this unfolding drama. The creative characters dedication to their craft was inspiring, & those who recaptured their passion were fulfilled. There’s so many layers, even more depth & curves than the previous two books (which were great). The last few chapters were so good. Restoration for the years & the precious things that were stolen.
This series is thrilling. Looking forward to Mia’s story. Brilliant Soraya!
