Once upon a time, there was a charming restaurant owner and an unsuspecting matchmaker who refused to mix business with pleasure…
Layla I've always been in the business of love. Happily Ever After, Inc. has thrived under my leadership and the hard set of rules that I set for myself. But when a never quite forgotten blast from my past walks into my life, I'm suddenly questioning everything and everyone around me.
Cole Reed is everything I want in a man - handsome, successful, and charming.
There's just one minor hiccup... Cole is Happily Ever After's latest client, and he's got his sights on me.
Cole I'm used to getting what I want and I've never left a date unhappy. So when my grandmother insists I need to work with a matchmaker... her lifelong best friend at that... I'm skeptical. Especially when my path crosses with the girl that always seemed to get away.
She's sexy, smart, and determined - everything I've always admired about her. And this time, I refuse to let her get away. There's just one minor problem... Layla James is my so-called matchmaker's granddaughter - and the owner of the matchmaking company that's just taken me on.
It feels like a weird twist of date that's put the two of us back in each other's life, but Layla doesn't quite see it that way.
Can I convince her to break a few rules and take a chance on our own happily ever after?

There is so much I wish I could say about this book, but I can’t because I don’t want to spoil it. What I can tell you is the chemistry between Layla and Cole is instant, scorching, and undeniable. Add in the forbidden aspect and I was absolutely salivating. Cole and Layla kept me glued to the pages and desperate to see how their story would unravel. I found myself helpless and unable to stop myself from devouring this book in just a single sitting.
From relatable characters to a delightful meddling matchmaker, I just couldn’t get enough. I’m absolutely in love with the Happily Ever After, Inc series and can not wait to see what author Lauren Helms has in store for us readers next!
*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*
Twist of Date was an enjoyable, sweet read! Layla is the owner of a very successful matchmaking company called Happily Ever After, Inc. She is always busy trying to find the perfect match for others instead of focusing on herself. This is where her Grandmother Ruth comes in and decides to find Layla her perfect match!
Layla and Cole have wonderful chemistry! They were good friends in college, but the timing was never right to explore something more. I loved watching them reconnect and fall for each other! It was so cute how Ruth would always find different ways to put Layla and Cole together!
Twist of Date is the second book in the Happily Ever After, Inc. series and can be read as a standalone. It releases wide on July 14th and on Amazon + KU on July 21st!
Thank you, Lauren Helms, for this ARC!
What to expect: 💜Friends to lovers 💜Secret fling 💜Matchmaker 💜Slightly forbidden
Fantastic match-making, second chance romance! Have you ever found yourself wanting a cute Hallmark-esque romance but with some *spice* added in? This book is it!!
This book is the second in the Happily Ever After, Inc. series. I jumped into this one without reading the first in the series, and it was a great standalone read, but has left me wanting more so I'll likely go back and catch up.
Happily Ever After, Inc. is a business started by two best friends, Layla and Cassie. Cassie (the heroine from Wed Like Wildfire) is in charge of wedding planning. Meanwhile, Layla is the overseer of their match-making services. Now, this isn't just another Tinder or Bumble, no, no... this is the real deal. Layla's grandmother and co-matchmaker, Ruth, have an extraordinary talent of finding people their soulmate. Why, Ruth would like to brag that she has a 100% match rate, in which everyone has found their own happily ever after.
While Layla is busy matching her clients with their dream dates, she often forgets to put herself first. So, Ruth takes it upon herself to find Layla her dream man. Who better to match her with than Ruth's best friend's grandson, Cole Reed. This isn't the first time Layla and Cole have met, far from it. They had explosive chemistry back when they were in college together, but Layla was always with another guy, so they never got to explore their feelings for one another. So, imagine how surprised Layla is when she finds Ruth taking Cole on as a client at HEA. That intoxicating chemistry is there again, but this time Layla tries to maintain a professional boundary, but Cole won't let his second chance slip away so easily.
---
This book was down-right addicting! The chemistry between our couple, Layla and Cole, was electric. Cole never got his chance to show Layla how well they could fit back in college, so he's determined to explore their feelings now that they've fallen back into each other's lives. Getting to hear all the in's and out's of how their match-making service worked was fascinating. Then the sneaky ways Ruth would throw Cole and Layla together was so cute. The interactions they had were beyond convincing the pair is meant to be, and that's before they even agree to be in their "secret sexy fling." While this book has spice, it was on the lighter side, and definitely felt like a cute rom-com. If that's what you're looking for in your next read, don't hesitate to pick this one up!
*Many thanks to the publisher for providing a free copy in exchange for my honest review.*
"Twist of Date" by Lauren Helms is an absolute gem of a romance novel that captivated my heart from beginning to end. This charming story takes us on a journey of love, second chances, and the undeniable pull of fate. With its engaging characters, sparkling chemistry, and a touch of unexpected surprises, this book deserves nothing less than a five-star rating.
The dynamic between Layla and Cole is electric. Their interactions are filled with sparks, witty banter, and simmering tension. I found myself eagerly turning the pages, anxiously waiting to see if they would overcome their obstacles and find their happily ever after. The chemistry between them is palpable, and the author masterfully builds the romantic tension, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.
If you're a fan of feel-good romances with well-rounded characters, witty dialogue, and a healthy dose of fate, "Twist of Date" is an absolute must-read. Lauren Helms has crafted a captivating tale that will make you believe in the magic of love and leave you with a smile on your face. I highly recommend this book and eagerly await more enchanting stories from this talented author!
Giddiness from knowing about this book and what the previous book had me diving in and reading until my eyes couldn’t take it anymore last night! I am in love with this series and Ruth always knows how to shock me with her sly moves!
I knew things with Layla would be difficult since she owns HEA, Inc but I didn’t realize she would put so much pressure on herself. I have so much love for her and the things she’s accomplished but I was also sad she never put herself first.
I had high hopes for Cole but I also was disappointed he just kept going through with the matchmaking. I understand his reasons but I also worried for his heart too. I could tell instantly how he felt for Layla which surprised me when things went the way they did.
I really loved these two together and so many things kept pulling them apart! I worried so much and hurt so much for Layla at the end. Cole still had my heart so I had high hopes for a happy ending!! Ruth is the biggest hoot and I can’t wait to see how she pairs Stella up!!
Layla and Cole had me hooked from the get-go. Their chemistry was hot! But let's not forget the real star here, Ruth, pulling all the strings behind the scenes like a literary puppet master.
These characters are so relatable, it's like they crawled right out of our own lives and onto the pages. The situations they find themselves in hit close to home, and their spicey is my kind of hot sauce! Cole's DND backstory... It felt irrelevant and did nothing to reflect his personality.
Despite this, I couldn't help but fall head over heels for this book. I'm absolutely, irrevocably hooked on this series!
Another cute read. ✔️ I like when people who are meant to be always find a way back to each other and of course, you always need a meddling grandma or 2. Things work out how they should and I can't wait to read about the next one in the friend group getting her happy ending. It is HEA Inc. after all. 🙂 There's one downside and that's how rushed the story felt, while I was happy about the couple and how things played out, it just seemed too fast for my liking. It was still a good read.
Cute, tender and hot story This story is cute, predictable on the happy ending, but it's a good simple, tender and hot romance. The annoying point for me remains the time taken by Layla to open her eyes. Certainly it gives a more intense romance, but a little slow for my taste about her relation with Cole. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
These books most definitely have that Hallmark movie feel, but with some great spice. Starting with the matchmaking grandma (Ruth) who has never missed a match, who is determined to match her granddaughter, and fellow matchmaker, Layla with the charming and enigmatic son of her best friend, Cole. When she agrees to take him on as a matchmaking client for her friend, she’s thrilled to learn that Cole and Layla actually knew each other in college. She’s certain that they are the perfect match for each other, and matchmakers are never able to match themselves, so Layla will be oblivious to the connection. Thus ensues the dating chaos and spicy fun.
The first book in this series, the matchmaking aspect was definitely more subtle, but that is most definitely not the case here. And especially if you read the first book (not necessary, but a great read as well), you already know the sneaky lengths Ruth manages to go to to make her connections, so it’s all the more fun to watch it unfold and wonder who’s in on the plan, and who is along for the ride (other than Layla and Cole). When Cole and Layla first reconnect, they both feel the sparks that were there in college, even though the timing was never right for them to do anything about it due to other relationships, and just bad timing. However, Cole is still sent through the matchmaking process, all while Ruth brings Layla in to “help”. Meanwhile, Cole only has eyes for Layla, but goes along with Ruth because he knows it will make his grandma happy. But the closer and closer he gets to Layla, the less he’s interested in anyone else.
Definitely a “he falls first” story, though she’s truly not far behind, this rom com delivers all the goods for a fun story, with a secret romance (lots of spicy times), plenty of angst, and an overall love story that will just make you laugh and smile.
This is such a feel-good romance! It hit all the sweet spots for me and with some added spice it was exactly what I needed to read at this moment. Cole and Layla are adorable and perfectly complimentary opposites with so much chemistry and I loved everything about their story.
Layla is determined to make her business a success and every decision she has made has been to further that goal, like having her personal life take a backseat to her professional one and never mixing business with pleasure (smart), but Cole Reed is about to put all that resolve to the test.
Layla was the one who got away for Cole, but there are so many possibilities to being back in same city as her, except for one fact - he is the newest client at her matchmaking service and it's going to take everything he's got to convince Layla to mix some pleasure with business.
I enjoyed Cole because of his fun-loving outlook on life and his ability to get Layla to take risks and lighten up. He always finds fun in any situation but can be serious when needed.
Layla comes across as formal initially but as she spends more time with Cole, we see a more fun-loving, risk-taking, and upbeat side to her, and I loved them together.
From the sparkling banter between Cole and Layla, to the enviable friendship between Layla and her girlfriends, the shenanigans Layla's grandma pulled to their cast of friends, there is always something to enjoy on each page.
Disclaimer: I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely mine.
I would have reviewed this earlier, but I couldn’t figure out how to leave the review on Amazon because the book has not been released yet.
This was my first book by this author. I actually enjoyed it. I didn’t know what to expect because again this was my first book from her. I obviously cannot go into great detail because the book is pending release, but I can say that the plot was cute. I loved Layla (Baked Lays) and Cole. They were adorable. Although I loved their chemistry when they were together, I do wish that we could’ve seen more of their day-to-day versus kind of getting a wrap-up of what they had done later. It was a little hard to accept that they had fallen in love when we only got a few seggsy scenes and texts. Also, the spice could’ve been a little bit spicier. I noticed that the sex scenes were kind of quick and to the point or were just implied. Nothing against the author, I just like spicy seggsy scenes. I’m also a little bit of a freak so do with that what you will. Having said all of that, the book was adorable. I loved the meddling grannies and ride or die friends. The whole concept of the story was a home run honestly. I think you guys should give it a chance…especially if you read Cassie’s story. I have one more book I need to finish and review and then I’m going to go back and read Cassie’s story. I also cannot wait for Stella’s.
This book was a thoroughly entertaining read. It is packed with humour, sweet and spicy moments and a cast of characters that are impossible not to love. Layla inherited her grandmother’s gift of matchmaking and has opened her own business, Happily Ever inc. She has been so dedicated to her business that she has neglected her own personal life. Her grandmother, Ruth, is determined to find her granddaughter the perfect match, but Layla has refused her help. When Cole, the grandson of her friend shows up to consult with Layla about using her services, Ruth takes note of their reactions, their chemistry and takes matters into her own hands. Layla and Cole were both attracted to each other years early, but their timing never seemed to work out. Now, nether Layla or Cole know what Ruth is up to as she seems to match Cole with another woman seeking help. Her sneaky and rather ingenious plan works to force Layla and Cole together into secretive trysts and very passionate encounters until everything seems to blow up in their faces. Cole knows who he wants….Layla. Unfortunately, Layla is in denial, hiding out and generally in a confused muddle. Will Ruth’s matchmaking skills score another success or will this be her first failure?
I received a copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Just like Wed Like Wildfire, Helms's newest is sweet, fun, & sexy and I had a tough time putting it down. Cole & Layla work seamlessly together as a couple. From the moment Layla gives in, it's like they've always been together. . . if only he wasn't in the process of being matched to someone else.
As for the matchmaking, it's obvious there is something going on, and from the outside looking in we know what Ruth is up to, but it takes a bit for the characters to catch on. Plus, Layla fights it every step of the way - I'm not 100% sure of all her reasons but she does take her company seriously. If they'd only talk to each other, and to those around them, things could have been handled a lot easier (usually the lack of communication is a big problem from me, but somehow Helms takes those things and make them OK. She did it in Win My Heart, too, which was the first book I read by her.)
There were a couple of things involving the conflict that didn't make a lot of sense to me, but it was overshadowed by how much I enjoyed these two and couldn't wait for them to get to their HEA. I'm so enjoying Helms's writing and look forward to checking out more of her books.
(Part of a series but can easily stand on its own.)
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
If you’re a reader that plays music in the background as you read, the author has included a playlist for you.
Layla is all business. She reminds me of the woman who ran The Millionaire Matchmaker. I could see them being competitors. Cole is second guessing his decision. He has someone who seems to know exactly who he needs in his life for it to be complete.
Our author creates a different type of romance. She doesn’t have the couple use an app. Her couple doesn’t go the blind route. She creates a romance around a tradition that goes all the way back to the sixteen hundreds. But things have changed a lot since then.
She also creates a secondary character that gets close to stealing the show. When I’m reading about her, one word that comes to mind is Bubbe. Ruth is a woman with a big heart who wants to see everyone happy. She has a gathering just like Patti Stanger would have. There were times where it seemed that Cole had her number. Just like the series says, we get a happy ending, but we’re not invited to the final event. But if you read the Author’s Note, you just may.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
This book is the second in the HEA series and I loved it just as much as the first!
Cole and Layla’s chemistry was hot and undeniable, but I think it was their teasing banter that got me every time. It brought an appreciated humour and sass to the story that only helped build that chemistry even more.
I would say this would almost fall into the second chance/mutual pining trope as well as the forbidden secret romance, which are both equally delicious in nature. There was a lot of great scenes, dialogue, and characters that really made this a well rounded-check all my boxes type rom-com. Not to mention the off the charts spice level and feels that the author delivers in the most delectable heartstrings pulling way.
Also, who could forget Ruth and her grandmotherly meddling ways. You cannot help but love that woman; add in her best friend (and Cole’s Grandmother) Dorothy and you have a perfectly mischievous entertaining pair.
Twist of Date is another great read by Lauren Helms and I will definitely be tuning in for Stella’s story when book three comes out!
*I was gifted an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
Lauren Helms has so much talent in creating great stories filled with heat & sweet, and Twist of Date is no exception. Layla & her bestie created Happily Ever After, Inc with said bestie running the wedding planning & Layla takes care of the matchmaking portion. Layla's grandmother (Ruth) also helps with the matchmaking portion, and they're very successful at it that's for sure. Ruth has decided it's time to find Layla someone, and has come up with her best friend's grandson, Cole Reed. Turns out, Cole & Layla know each other from college, and while they're totally perfect for each other, the timing was never right. Things get very entertaining when Ruth takes on Cole, and it does throw Layla for a loop (little does she know). Cole is super happy about this because this time, he's not about to let her get away. Their chemistry is definitely on point with sparks flying like crazy but Layla doesn't mix business with pleasure but the best laid plans amirite?! I couldn't get enough of this story with all the heat, sweet, and awesomely entertaining supporting cast as it left a big smile on my face! I cannot wait on the next book, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This was a fun book. I really enjoyed reading it. I almost forgot I was reading and felt like I was watching a movie. It’s funny because some books can really transport me into in plot and I loose myself. This was one of those books for me. The writing was seamless and well done. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a fun escape!
Layla owns a match making business and she is very good at making matches! She inherited her abilities from her grandmother Ruth. Her and her grandmother work together at Layla’s company HEA.
Cole’s grandmother is best friends with Layla’s grandmother. She has decided that it’s time for Cole to settle down. She gets Ruth to agree to find Cole a match.
Coke and Layla went to college together and they were always attracted but it never worked out because one or the other was always seeing someone.
Needless to say when they both realized that he was looking to get matched the sparks flew.
There is some fun hit or miss action and confusion that leads to a very entertaining story! Loved it!
You'd think as a matchmaker that Layla would already have her perfect match, but you'd be wrong. The heroine in this romance story is too busy helping everyone else find their happy ending, to even think about finding her own. The business she runs, Happily Ever After, Inc. with her best friend Cassie is thriving. Business is booming and much to her matchmaking granny's dismay, Layla won't let her match her. But Ruth wouldn't be a matchmaking grandma if she didn't ignore that wish and do it anyway. And who does she find but the college guy she crushed on, Cole Reed? They had combustible chemistry in college and it's still there when they meet up in this story. It's just too bad that Cole shows up to let Ruth match him, which puts him squarely out of the running for Layla, chemistry or not. The chemistry and the conflict was just the right amount in this story to keep it interesting and Cole's determination not to miss out on his chance with the girl that got away was sweet. There was a little too much matchmaking details for my taste but this was a fun, enjoyable read.
There certainly is a twist to this one! Our Matchmaking Company, HEA, Inc., is back in business. This time, Layla's grandmother, Ruth, the original matchmaker, takes on her best friend's grandson, Cole. Cole and Layla knew each other from college, and there was a little spark back then, but nothing came of it. Working with Cole gives Layla fits since he flirts, and she wants to flirt back. She makes herself adhere to the strict rules she has set about fraternizing with clients, but then she refuses to work with him anymore, and they get together on the DL. More and more people figure it out, and finally, everyone knows due to one of the most genuinely embarrassing scenes I have ever read. Poor Layla is tortured by Cole, Ruth, and her conscience. Finally, all is explained. Ruth is one sneaky old lady! A sweet, funny and hot romance. I received an ARC for free from the published/author and left this review voluntarily.
5 star Review Twist Of Date (Happily Ever After Inc #2) by Lauren Helms
Lauren Helms is a new author to me and I am surprised I have not come across her books before. When I read the blurb for Twist Of Date I was intrigued.
Layla James and Cole Reed’s story was entertaining and at times witty. Layla runs Happily Ever After Inc and Cole is her latest client. Cole is attracted to Layla but she is focused in finding him his perfect match. When Cole decides to humour his grandmother he is surprised to find the woman who has already caught his eye, Layla.
Layla never mixes business and pleasure so she is not happy with the feelings that Cole brings out in her. Can Cole convince Layla to cross the line and take a chance?
The chemistry between them is intense and it was entertaining to watch their journey play out. This was a delightful read that made me smile.
Cole and Layla met years ago in college, but timing was never right for their mutual crush to develop into anything more. Layla now has a successful matchmaking business, and her grandmother Ruth works for her, taking a few special clients a year. Cole is one of those, and Ruth is determined to find him the perfect woman. As things heat up between the two friends, Ruth's real matchmaking skills come into play. Luckily, they get their happily ever after.
This is a really sweet, lighthearted story. Layla is the one who got away, and their chemistry now is on fire. The story is well written and believable. The characters are fun, particularly Layla's group of girlfriends. I really enjoyed it, and plan to go read the first book in the series now, as well as the next one when it is published.
i received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Layla James owns and runs Happily Ever After Inc. (HEA Inc.). She is a matchmaker, and does an amazing job at it but how can she not as she inherited her abilities from her grandmother who still looks after a very select number of clientele. Cole Reed owns a local restaurant named Lace and is always working on ways to reduce waste and use local ingredients and resources. Cole’s grandmother, Dorthy, decides Cole needs to go and see her best friend Ruth to be matched with a partner. Cole and Layla went to school together. They knew each other, were attracted to one another but neither ever knew. They run into one another when he comes to HEA Inc. Layla has certain rules for her business to run smoothly the main one is no dating any clients whether they are hers or her grandmothers. Will Ruth find Cole the perfect match? Can Layla stick to her own rules? I receive this Advanced Readers Copy for an honest review. Happy Reading. 😄
Lauren Helms is a fairly new author to me but that’s about to change because I loved everything about matchmaker Layla James and Cole Reed the man who is determined to be her match. If you are looking for a book that is fun, sweet and will leave you smiling look no further than Twist of Date (Happily Ever After Inc #2). Layla runs Happily Ever After Inc and her lastest client is Cole but the match he wants is not with any woman on her books he want the matchmaker herself. Layla has one rule “do not mix business and pleasure” so what happens when Cole goes all out to win her over, will she cross the line and break her own rule, you will need to one click to find out……….. The chemistry is sizzling, the characters are easy to love but more importantly this is a beautifully written, fun read that left me smiling.
Twist of Date is a sweet cute romance. Layla and her grandma (Ruth) work hard, building up a thriving matchmaking business, Happily Ever After Inc. They both have a knack for matching people with their ideal matched person. One day her Grandma Ruth has a new client in Cole whose grandma Dorthy wants him to find someone and sends him along to her best friend to help out. Cole happens to be one of Layla's friends from school when she was younger and whom she had feelings for, but he never reciprocated. Lauren keeps you on the edge of your seat with will they or won't they with all the angst and other factors in play. I received an arc for my voluntary honest review for NNBB. You will love this read if you love a sweet romance with some angst.
Layla and Cole were friendly in college and felt an attraction but never acted on it. A few years later, they are both back in Indianapolis. Layla is the owner of a matchmaking and wedding planning business. Cole is running several restaurants for his family’s business. They are already flirting but then their matchmaking grandmothers get involved…. Cole and Layla struggle with their attraction, then give in. But what happens when they are found out?
I liked this book - the characters were well written and you are routing for the HEA. I did not read the first book in this series and I thought it worked fine as a stand alone (although now I want to read the first one!).
A cute story. I absolutely loved Layla and Cole. Even though you know they will be each others match, I definitely did not expect things to unfold as they did. Layla’s and Cole’s grandparents are perfect, it is fun to see how they push their grandchildren. There are a lot of cute moments I love, but I can’t say them or it would ruin it, you just have to read it to see. Cole is so sweet and knows what he wants and when to push for it. You can’t help but root for these characters, they really draw you into their story. I highly recommend you read this sweet romance. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I'm sorry but how cute were Cole and Layla. The whole time i was reading thos story i hade a huge smile on my face. The charming Cole was such a great man in every aspect amd i find him, just like Ruth said a perfect match for Layla.
Layla has a strong work ethic and when Cole is thrown into her life again, she struggled how to maneuver her attention for him. But Cole is one determined man and he didn't take his chance back in college but now he's doing everything to make sure the girl of his dreams doesn't slip through his fingers.

Layla and Cole have a very fun story. College friends reunite years later.
Kayla’s grandma has been tasked with finding Cole his match and she has a streak she needs to keep going. Who better than Layla to be his match. But just how is she going to accomplish this?!?
Well there are so many fun ways that granny gets these two together without them even knowing it’s going to happen.
Then they find out they like one another and they have to figure out how to navigate this.
Since Layla owns the business she has to stay out of a clients business and his bed-but she had a hard time with that.
I hope we see more in this series. It’s fun and unique.
Book 2 of the Happily Ever After, Inc. series is a delightful romance story. Layla and Cole were acquaintances during their college year, but lost touch until he finds himself the client to find his match with the help of Ruth, her grandmother. What happens next was an enduring storyline with come on moments that will keep you flipping the pages until the end. Will the match maker be able to find his match when all he wants is what’s in front of him? One click to find out, in this entertaining addition to the series that doesn’t disappoint.
Tropes: Matchmaker Friends to lovers Secret fling Rom-com
Lauren Helms is a brand new author for me. Twist of Date is amazing for a romcom. Whhaattt?! Okay let me explain. I usually don’t go for romcoms. Usually my books and even movies need to be dark. But guys… This was amazing. I will be adding Lauren Helms to my one click list.
Layla and Cole had amazing chemistry. Cole is a serious dirty talker and unapologetic flirt. He knows what he wants, and he wants Layla.
Funny, sexy, and certainly entertaining, I think you will love Twist of Date.
