When Lennox and Connor race full throttle into a secret relationship, can they navigate the track, or will they crash and burn?
Lennox Bradley is Formula 1 royalty. His father was an F1 champion, and so is his brother, so expectations are high for Lennox’s debut season. But when he suffers a koala-related PR disaster at the Australian Grand Prix, he’s thrust into the media spotlight. For an introvert like Lennox, it’s a nightmare.
Connor Blake doesn’t know the first thing about Formula 1, but as communications manager for Bradley Racing, it’s his job to manage the fallout for Lennox. Except Lennox isn’t anything like the arrogant, shallow guy he’s expecting, and it gets harder and harder to deny the magnetism between them. When Connor and Lennox both have to choose what it is they really want for themselves, is there any room for a future together?
This M/M romance from Lisa Henry features a secret relationship, two guys who are bad at admitting their feelings, pining, and is set in the high octane world of Formula 1 featuring fast cars, driving at the limit, spectacular crashes, heated rivalries, and of course, a HEA.
Each book in the Lights Out collection is a standalone story, and the books can be read in any order.
I liked this more than book 1! Still just find it so weird that book 1 spoiled the ending of this book, book 2?! My main issue with this was the pacing - the relationship moved so slowly it was like they never even had enough time to get to know each other
I really enjoyed this one as it takes a slightly different approach with an F1 driver who doesn't want to be there.
Lennox made me feel all the things as he struggled with his anxieties over not only being closeted, but also the pressure of living up to his father's legacy and his brother's racing efforts.
Connor comes across as a bit of an arrogant man, he knows he's good at his job, and he's not keen on babysitting the boss's youngest son.
But he very quickly sees behind the facade to the real Lennox and they slowly begin to connect.
There's a combo of both slow burn and instant attraction in the narrative, which totally worked for me, and I liked seeing them start to open up.
The tension comes from external causes, and for a while, things do look like they're going to just die out.
Thankfully, though both men find solutions to what's giving them the stress and pressure of dealing with what looked like a bleaker future.
I liked them both individually but I adored them as a pair.
We also get to see some of the events from book one with a different perspective, and I'm loving that element of this series so far.
Hopefully things carry on in the same enjoyable way!
#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.
I love Lisa Henry, and it pains me to not love one of her books, but Full Throttle was hard for me to get through. Maybe I shouldn't read books about sports I have less than zero interest in???
I think my biggest issue with this #totallyfine story was that the romance was extremely tepid. Like, it was the cottage cheese of romances. It existed, but the chemistry just didn't click for me. The story was fine and mildly interesting, and nothing was wrong with the rest of the book, but I felt totally indifferent about the romance.
I haven't read the other books in this collaborative series (and I'm probably not going to read them), but this book was underwhelming.
What I think happened while creating this book/series:
MM authors: mmmh, let's have a look. We've done hockey, football, we've done some basketball and baseball too, we are too American for soccer (it pains my heart to call it that), we've risked it with diving and swimming at times, so... what's left? OH, OF COURSE, CAR RACING. Chiara: wtf how could anyone think formula 1 is interesting is beyond my comprehension but I suppose these people exist because I mean
I was subjected to countless races on tv when I was younger and lived with my parents, as my dad is a massive fan of F1. I was there when Senna died and my dad cried, guys. But anyway. I hated it as a child, and I hate it now, I cannot fathom why this is ever called a sport. But I still read the book because I have a tbr made of very heavy literary fiction that I'm saving for a flight and I wanted a sweet easy romance to read during my breaks at work. Seems pretty fair to me.
So yeah. F1 aside, which I now understand has to be the bane of my existence, this book sucks. It's flat, it's boring, the characters are absolutely unremarkable, and their romance is just plain silly as they meet, fuck literally twice and then spend the rest of the book pining for each other and calling it love. Not even at 16, cmon.
Anyway, one star because the combo F1+boring characters+instalove is absolutely irredeemable. Like, no. bye now
Living up to expectations as an F1 driver is draining, and Lennox Bradley shows. He feels inferior, and people make comments about him being the son and brother of the famous F1 champions, which doesn’t do any good.
Connor is a PR specialist and Lennox has PR issues, so a match to be made. Not quite at first. Lennox is in trouble and Connor loves to clean up sh*t. If only Lennox let him. An arrogant prat that’s what Connor is, Lennox can’t stand the man.
To open up Lennox is a hell of a job, he’s an introvert, and publicity isn’t for him. The more pieces of Lennox’s real personality are revealed, the more Connor is attracted to the man. He’s vulnerable and anxious, he’s kind and responsible. The PR train is at full speed! As are the catching feelings for each other. There’s a bond between them until circumstances scr*wed it up.
The author gives us a great view of the F1 world, all the ins and outs, awesome! A story with all the feels, with wonderfully layered characters, and a sweet romance.
I enjoyed this one a lot. Exciting action, F1 racing scenes, intense pressure of being in the spotlight and driving very fast cars. The romance felt believable in this one and I really liked both characters. Connor acts like a genuine Aussie and Lennox is a likeable introvert with an inferiority complex. I enjoyed the Australian setting and the unfortunate koala incident. The side characters were all really good value. I’d probably read a book about Arlo if he had one and I’m intrigued by Karl’s story. The pacing and storyline worked well. It was good overall.
I’m just annoyed that in Team Orders there is a big spoiler for this. Basically Team Orders shows a scene from 80% in this that gives away a major plot point and pretty the entire resolution of the storyline..so yeah, it was disappointing to read this knowing what the outcome would already be.
I'd say it's somewhere between 3.75 and 4.25, so I'm sticking with the middle.
Lennox being portrayed almost timid doesn't really explain why he's got such a bad temper. Or is it only around Karl Neumman? Either way, Karl would have had to have done something much worse than this to guarantee such rage.
Also, what is it that made Lennox immediately hate Connor? Connor kept saying he was so hard on Lennox when they first met because of his background and what he does, but honestly, he was actually surprisingly gentle, so it doesn't explain the supposed animosity between them.
It is nice to see a character suffering because of his father's expectations and worried about coming out, if he's going to get the dad or the team owner worried about the publicity and the team's image.
Oh they're the sweetest. I can't do this anymore😣.
My only problem with this is book is the pacing, and that's it. I loved everything else, although I would have loved if there was more racing involved, but I'll take what I can get.
Connor and Lennox my babies, ugh they deserved their HEA!!!
This one's really full speed ahead! It successfully gets across the excitement, hard work, and chaos involved in Formula One. Mind you, thanks to the previous book, (Team Orders by RJ Scott), I did feel that I already had a good idea of how things work in that world, but this one's just a little bit extra. It can, however, be read as a standalone, even though there is a slight overlap with the previous one.
Both Lennox, who I adored 😍, and Connor were well explored and interesting characters. There's an immediate attraction between them, but they have a real struggle between their priorities, and a battle to find happiness. There's so many internal and external pressures. Growing up with his dad, and being expected to follow in his footsteps, caused Lennox a great deal of heartache. I felt like I connected with Lennox with the anxiety issue, loved how he became more confident and pushed his own limits of the bubble he lived in. I think that I actually cheered out loud when he confronted his dad. I loved how Connor was so gentle and thoughtful towards Lennox, and the way in which he helped him on the way to self discovery
Loved the ending! I was rooting for them throughout!
I haven’t read the first book in this series yet but after reading this one I will try it. This was really good and I enjoyed the F1 storyline. I don’t know anything about F1 racing buy luckily you don’t have to to enjoy the book.
I was going to leave my review at that but I decided to write some more. 😊 I really loved Lennox’s relationship with his brother Malcolm, that was such a sweet bond! The other members of the racing team’s PR team were supportive and funny too. Connor’s old/new boss from Hipe, Arlo, interested me immensely! Is there a book or planned book with him?
Lennox’s father could have stayed as a cardboard cutout of the father who only cares about winning but there was more to him and even though we don’t see it much it was definitely a very powerful part of the story for Lennox.
I did feel like Lennox and Connor caught feelings very quickly and I didn’t feel as much buildup and reason for this. The sex scenes were boring and that was disappointing because I thought maybe I’d see a spark there that I was missing elsewhere. I was still rooting for them and I think they worked. I just felt like the chemistry wasn’t all there for me.
I know I’m going to read HL Day’s story because I love her writing and I’d like to read RJ Scott’s after meeting Archie in this book. I’m not sure about the book about Karl, he was such a jerk and I’m not familiar with the author of that one. I’ll keep my eyes on the reviews for the other books. This is a great collaboration of authors in the racing world that I enjoy better than novellas in one anthology.
This was only slightly better than the first book, so I remain disappointed in this series. I usually enjoy Lisa Henry's work quite a bit more. In this installation, we have Lennox, the younger son of a racing dynasty who makes a huge PR blunder (which, admittedly, was kind of hilarious) and Connor, the team communications officer sent to clean up the mess. Lennox is a sensitive but stoic soul, in desperate needing of some understanding. And Connor is confident and observant. These two end up in a complicated sort-of relationship that seems doomed from the start. So that's straightforward enough, but honestly it was just so lukewarm for me. Their chemistry was mild, the spice was mild, their conclusion was mild. I again enjoyed the racing aspects far more than the romance. I won't give up hope yet, there are still four books in this series. One of them has got to be good, right?
First book by Lisa Henry for me, and I am definitely leaving with a good impression. It's one of the things I like of multi author series, I can get to meet new authors I might not have otherwise. We met Lennox in the first book, being friends with Archie. Seeing all the events we saw on Archie's periphery from his perspective was really cool. And Lennox and Connor make for an unlikely but compelling couple! I really enjoyed it
Oh, look—a sports romance that isn't about NHL or NFL. That's good—as is the initial set-up (a cute koala PR disaster) and the FI background to the story. I don't think I'd go back to this, though—the chemistry between the MCs feels manufactured, while an intriguing family dynamic was, frankly, squandered in the drive to a fluffy finishing line.
Lisa Henry has captured the world of F1 racing in all its glory. From strategy meetings to pit lane and the roar of the engines at the start line. She also highlighted the struggles introvert Lennox has to conceal not only from the media but also his teammates. A team which is very much a family affair as it is owned and run by his father and also includes Lennox’s brother as a driver.
Lennox has numerous insecurities when it comes to his place on the team, his sibling and his famous father. An unfortunate koala related incident throws Lennox and Communications Manager Connor together. It’s not long before Connor truly sees who Lennox is and Lennox feels truly seen. The chemistry between them isn’t acted upon immediately but they soon can’t help themselves and things heat up. Their time together is not without some ups and downs which causes some angst before they get a well deserved HEA.
I really enjoyed this engaging read. It gave me some feels as Lennox struggled with his place in the family legacy and all his perceived shortcomings. The F1 racing and romance elements are well balanced whilst nuanced main characters and plenty of side characters keep things interesting.
3.5 stars. This M/M Formula 1 racing romance, between a driver who went viral for the wrong reasons and the PR guy called in to rehab his reputation, started strong but didn’t really come together for me. I didn’t connect to the romance or the MCs - I wanted more character development.
I did enjoy the Formula 1 setting. Thanks to Netflix’s Drive to Survive docu-series, I know a lot more about F1 than I did two years ago and I enjoyed Lisa Henry’s take on it. It’s part of a multi author series and I’ll probably try another one.
I was surprised that this book actually provided angst 😅 . I thought it would be fill with high octane emotion and people butting heads because, you know, EGO. But Lennox totally took my by surprise because of his vulnerability. And I fell for him just like Connor did because of that. Loved how Connor discovered Lennox underneath, loved that Connor saw Lennox for who he was
The relationship had a touch of instant-attraction but at the same time, a right amount of time-progress because (1) Lennox wasn't out and (2) Lennox basically was the boss's son. Properly balanced, and I loved that.
The father-son relationship also made me teary-eyed at one scene. Good job, author 👍
Wish the ending to be a little more romantic () but overall, this one was good.
Earlier break-up than usual which isn't necessarily a dealbreaker, but the romance didn't feel grounded to me when the MCs pined for each other after hooking up once or twice. Having said that, if you like Lisa Henry or wanted to read an F1 gay romance, this is still worth a shot.
4.5 stars – Sometimes in life you need to ride to meet it!
Dontcha just love it when a new multi-author series (of standalones) introduces you to an author you’ve never read before, and you immediately click with their writing? It’s that strange scenario where you’re kicking yourself for not picking up their stuff sooner, but just being happy you finally did!
I devoured Full Throttle over two sittings as I needed to ensure Lennox & Connor got their HEA.
You know my aforementioned ‘mothering’ issues (see TO review)? Welp, I was in full-on Mama Bear mode with Lennox. He was literally screaming on the inside for someone to see him… to really see him and acknowledge his wants and desires. Life can be hard when you’re trying to live the dreams of others *sighs*.
I loved how Connor knew as much about F1 as me, which it to say heehaw (nada, zilch!) Thank heavens for Google, eh? *smirks*
Considering Connor isn’t one for suffering fools gladly, you’d think he’d know better than to assume anything about anyone… but heyho *shrugs*, you live, and you learn! It was fun watching Lennox knock him on his buttski (metaphorically speaking, of course!). Feelings have a way of doing that, don’t they?
I can honestly say I don’t know who was pining more in this book, them, or me *snorts*. *gestures between us* It’s just us, right? Safe space and all that. So, I can confess that I may have had a few melodramatic ‘ugh’ moments during reading where I flopped on the sofa with my e-reader when the slight angst was so good and too much all at the same time.
Now, I’m not saying I’m a Petty Betty (shh!) and you all know I love an epilogue. I just wish it were further on in time (greedy mare that I am).
FT got me in the feels. And you don’t need me to tell you I was sitting with the dopiest grin on my face when I finished.
Connor Blake is a PR specialist. Lennox Bradley is a driver with a PR issue. What they ultimately find is more than they hoped for.
Lisa Henry’s FULL THROTTLE is part of the multi-author Lights Out series, set in the high octane world of Formula One (F1) racing. Lennox has essentially grown up in the F1 world. His father is the equivalent of racing royalty, and is now the owner of his own team. Lennox’s older brother Malcolm is Bradley’s top racer, while his best friend, Justin, holds the other place. Lennox feels the full weight of the expectations that one day in the near future, he will step into Justin’s spot and it will truly be Bradley’s glory days.
While Connor knows the bare minimum about racing, he is a legendary PR expert, and when Lennox finds himself in a situation that threatens to blow back onto the team, Connor has the chance to step in to help save the day. What Lisa Henry writes is how Connor and Lennox have the chance to get to know each other a little better without the glare of the spotlight, and how they actually really like each other. A whole lot.
Full Throttle is a fantastic opposites attracting, wrong timing, but maybe some making of the right timing, and a sweetly hot and satisfying just-the-right-speed read. Do not miss this one!
Jun 2025 ebook First, I am a fan of Lisa Henry. I've enjoyed several of her books and am a huge fan of her Sterek fan fiction. Sadly, Full Throttle didn't work for me. The thing about being a paid driver bothered me. Aren't they all paid? I didn't really get the issue. I did understand that Lennox was touchy about "not being a good driver," and only there because his dad owned the team, but there was no way his dad would let him race if he couldn't do it.
The relationship between Connor and Lennox, I didn't feel it. What on earth did they have in common? Lennox often came across as immature. 🫤
Then the whole thing with Lennox and the other driver (forget his name) in the hotel hallway and Connor seeing it and realizing that Lennox was gay. It felt, sorry to say, cliche.
I ended up skimming parts because a.) I don't understand racing so it was all lost on me, and b.) I didn't care to hear about Connor and his new job potential or his weird relationship with his former boss who I think he calls Bear? I haven't read any of the other books in the series so that could be part of the issue. The best parts for me were the Koala. 😊💜
Because this didn't work for me, I regretfully give 1 star. Still a fan!
*** 27 Sept 2024, just bought on sale at Amazon US for .99 cents.
I read the sample and it's cute so far. I didn't pay close enough attention to the blurb and thought this was between two drivers, not 1 driver, and 1 PR fixer. It seems like it's going to be a little cutesy story, not a full-blown dramatic love story, which is all fine, but I'm in the mood for something with a little more dramatic meat to it. Definitely keeping this on my TBR but holding off buying for now. I do love Lisa Henry, so I know it'll be good when I get to it. :)
“Being an F1 driver is a crazy job but not what everyone expects. My year consists of 20% driving and 80% media, marketing, and travel. -Daniel Ricciardo”
Full Throttle by Lisa Henry is our second fast paced, passionate romance in the multi author series, Lights Out.
In this series about Formula 1 racing, each author takes one racing team, a driver or two on that team , the international races in the series , and the dramatic events that occur during that season. We see it impacting on the various races , season team standings, the emotional reverberations on each driver, as well as the relationships that arise between men on the circuit.
In Full Throttle, Henry’s focus is on Bradley Racing. Sir Andrew Bradley a former F1 champion, his sons , the oldest, Malcolm, the current F1 team champion, and Lennox, the introverted son whose been racing in F2, but now has been called up by his father to be the team’s F1 reserve driver. This is a huge honor as well as an earned achievement for young drivers, a spot that Lennox is well aware he’s not exactly achieved but being given as the son of the wealthy owner. It’s a place that should have gone to his F2 teammate, Renzo.
It’s a sore spot that other drivers, as the infamous Karl Nuemann keeps reminding him, and others, loudly and often. In scenes to be repeated throughout the series.
Henry has given us a very relatable character in Lennox. Lennox is a soft spoken, insecure man, one with a father whose disappointment and indifference to his hopes for his future plans make him withdraw into himself further. There’s no outlet for Lennox, no one to confide with, even on his own truths about his sexuality.
Until a fist fight with Karl and a dropped koala bring him to the attention of Team PR mastermind, Connor Blake.
Henry’s cast of well rounded characters expands with the addition of Connor Blake, a man from Melbourne, with a ex boss and family who want him back in Australia where he’s beginning to feel like he needs to be. Connor ‘s circle comes with the ever so delicious Arlo Paddington, CEO of Hipe, his ex boss who wants him back. Every conversation, every get together is a delight! Same goes for Alexis, the acerbic , perfectly put together director of communications of Bradley Racing, a master of the wry look . Connor is in control of each situation, changing the direction of the narrative to fit the team’s needs, and goals. But not without a heart and informative mind guiding him.
Henry has multiple themes in play here. The troubled Blake family dynamics , team hierarchy dynamics where resentment is building over Andrew’s eagerness to push Lennox forward over other better qualified drivers, and finally, Lennox’ s closeted status.
Because being gay isn’t acceptable if you’re a F1 driver, and, from Lennox’s perspective, that’s one more strike against him in his own family where he’s kept his sexuality a secret.
The slowly building relationship between Lennox and Connor is full of hurdles, and while there’s racing elements, they don’t feel as massive an element as they did in Scott’s novel, Team Orders.
This feels more relationship and personality driven, and while we focus on the team building aspects of Team Bradley, and all the communication/PR that goes into a successful business, I wish we had more track time too.
The quotes from actual drivers at the beginning of each story give us insight into how the author is angling the focus. Here it’s the stresses and frustration of the of 80 percent of the sport as it’s seen through the life of Lennox and Connor, the PR man who’s a magician at handling this aspect of F1 racing.
A bonus was the epilogue, it didn’t extend too far beyond the end of the season, all the characters were comfortably included here.
I really enjoyed Full Throttle by Lisa Henry. The characters, relationships, family dynamics, were all well defined and realistically balanced against the frustrations and challenges that comes with racing at the F1 level right now.
I’m definitely recommending this story and the one that came before. This is turning into a very exciting series!
Lights Out:
- [x] Team Orders by RJ Scott - [x] Full Throttle by Lisa Henry - [ ] Pole Position by Charlie Novak 6/6 - [ ] Scoring Points by HL Day 6/13 - [ ] Black Flagged by Emma Jaye 6/20 - [ ] Rookie Mistakes by Beth Laycock 6/27/2023
This is another great book! I am so happy all the authors got together to do these. The characters of Connor and Lennox are perfectly paired. Their dynamic is definitely hot at times and can be funny at others. They are friends too so that makes it just that much better. Their attraction to each other, uncertainty of reciprocation and finally the relief that the other was attracted was very charming. This book grabs you by the heartstrings. I could read on and on about them and hope they will pop up in the other books in some small way. The supporting characters are very well written too. I love this story and will be looking into more books from this author.
5/5 disguised cups of Coca Cola. 😊
I received an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review.
Started off really good. Like it was one of the best mm romances I've read in a while. The stress Lennox was going through felt real and I loved how Connor swooped in. The problem was that it was too short---and I don't mean that in the good way. There wasn't enough there for it to make sense to me that they fell in love. They had maybe 3 or 4 days working together, a handful of conversations, and now they're in love? Lennox didn't even how old Connor was till after. I don't think Lennox knew anything about Connor. Just seemed odd to me.
Another wonderful book in the Lights Out series! This one focuses more on the media side of things (don't worry, there is enough racing included!) and on Australia, which is a bonus (I love koalas.). If you like men who find their love through a bunch of obstacles, Full Throttle is the book for you. I translated the book, so I got a free copy.
My favorite of the series so far and a great romance all around :) This was exactly the right mix of sweet, emotional, tender & angsty I love for a relaxed but still full of feelings read. Both Connor and Lennox were likable MCs, their voices very distinct, and had amazing chemistry.
A dynamic and passionate read. Hard to put down and I enjoyed every page. It kind of set a high bar that many other books of the series didn't live up to!
