Nobody writes quite like the original Dr Seuss but this book is close. It's full of information on butterfly lifecycles and the rhyming verse makes it easy for children to get involved with. Has a great glossary at the back for the trickier words too. Would be perfect for year 1 or 2 children doing a life cycles topic.

Another "written and illustrated in the style of Dr. Seuss" book. It's cute, the information about butterflies is good, but it's obviously not the original.

A fun rhyming book that also teaches about the metamorphosis process that a caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly. It goes through a caterpillars life cycle from beginning to end, step by step. This is a very simple book but it also is great to incorporate into reading or science classes or even both. The book even notes the distinction between caterpillars that become butterflies and those that become moths. It shows what they eat and how they drink nectar. It shows their natural defenses such as camouflage. The book even shows different sizes and types of butterflies and how they vary in colors and patterns. Very colorful and educational at the same time.

Overall, I liked it. It was kind of word heavy but I felt like the illustrations helped to distract and break it up a bit. Definitely felt more like a science lesson than a book.

My, Oh My--A Butterfly! By Tish Rabe. (Dr. Seuss)
This book is considered to be poetry and its also very informative! I believe its poetry by the way the words rhyme with each other. (like the title). It talks about how butterflies become butterflies and how long the process takes till they become one. They start off as an egg, then a hungry caterpillar, and finally goes into a deep sleep in a chrysalis. When the caterpillar wakes it turns into a butterfly! The book then goes into detail on where the butterflies decide to travel to when it gets cold here and talks about their journey to there. I highly recommend this book to a children's classroom especially if they are learning about butterflies!

I couldn't resist picking up this book. I'm a lifelong fan of Dr. Seuss and his funtastical rhymes! But above and beyond that, I'm also a major butterfly fan! Butterflies are fascinating, beautiful, and meaningful all at once, and this book is the perfect introduction to butterflies for young readers -- and the young at heart! Whimsical illustrations accompany a scientifically accurate (yet very accessible) rhyming text to create a keen sense of wonder and delight -- so go outside and see if you can find any butterflies around your home or office building! :)

Genre: Nonfiction/Informational; Poetry
Grade Level: Primary/Middle (2nd-4th)

This is a fantastic book about the life of Butterflies! It is full of information about the life cycle and the many different types of butterfly. It is from the Cat in the Hat's Learning Library and written in poetic verse. I love it because it uses some scientific words so the children can learn to use accurate descriptive words during a lesson. It is also a good book to use to teach because it has an index and a glossary which are things that children need to learn about as well.

“My Oh My a Butterfly!: All about butterflies,” written by Trish Rabe follows the Cat in the Hat Sally and Dick as they learn all about Butterflies. This book is part of The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library.
This is another one of those informational books that are wound around fiction. It’s highly entertaining and enjoyable.
It’s well suited for pre-k to second grade. It’s fun for a read aloud and also a great addition to a classroom library.

I’ll be honest, this was actually really hard for me to read, as I am completely petrified of butterflies and moths (I realise I’m a weirdo). However, I do realise most people for some unknown reason, seem to actually like these horrid critters, and this book is a great way to introduce youngsters to the process of growth these things go through.

Join in the learning fun with The Cat in the Hat, and Thing 1 and Thing 2 as they explore the world of the Butterfly. Learn about the many types, and what must happen as the egg goes through the processes of growing, and how the Butterfly survives in nature, and the world around them.

In enjoyable rhyme and wonderful illustrations, the Cat in the Hat tells, in interesting detail, all about butterflies from egg full circle to egg. There is a glossary at the end of the story.

This is a great book that shows in a fun way how butterflies become butterflies. This is a great rhyming book. Butterflies go through a process to form, then they get to live for not so many years. There are different kinds of butterflies. This book shows how they begin from an egg to a caterpillar, then coming out as a beautiful butterfly. It also talks about how they see and eat things such as flower pollen. And it talks about their wings and the colors of butterflies. I like this book very much plus is very colorful. It contains words to build on students' vocabulary.

The story tells of the life cycle of a butterfly beginning as an egg to a caterpillar to a chrysalis and its final transformation into a beautiful butterfly. The book also teaches about how butterflies see, what they eat, and it describes how to identify different ones based off of the colors, size and shape. The book provides new vocabulary and pictures of each newly expressed word.

This book is a way to teach children all about butterflies. The story uses comparisons to familiar knowledge they already know and shows them new things they may have never heard of before. The author uses rhymes to keep the story flowing and utilizes the known Cat in the Hat character to help make the book more interesting. This book is a great tool to use in a butterfly unit in science especially when discussing monarchs migration to Mexico in 2nd grade.

Questions:
- Where have you seen butterflies?
- What kind of butterflies do you know of?
- What do you know about them so far?
- What do you want to learn about butterflies?
- What is the lifecycle of a butterfly?
- Where do butterflies migrate to?
- What is the difference between a butterfly and a moth?

I started reading this book to my niece today and became fascinated myself. It is beautifully written with lots of great learning information for young readers about butterflies and their cycle of life. It just so happens that I have a plant with several caterpillars on it and was hoping that they would turn into butterflies. Reading this book gave me some reminders about the vocabulary words and some much needed information that I had forgotten.

I highly recommend this book for all parents and children alike. It's great to read to the youngest of listeners.

Happy Reading!

I liked this book because I learned a lot about butterflies.
I learned that butterfly when it is small it be in an egg, when the caterpillar comes out of the egg, it eats the egg!
And I learned when this butterfly looks at our face, it will see tens of our face.
And when the caterpillar comes out of its old skin, it eats the old skin!
I was laughing very much when the butterfly ate its egg and the old skin.
That's why I gave it 5 stars.
The end.

This book was full of great information. FUN FACT: Did you know that when butterflies first come out of their cocoons their wings are really soft and they can't fly until their wings harden? I sure didn't know that before I read this book.

The rhyme is rather good, although a couple of sentences are a little awkward and it took me a little while to get back into the rhythm. Overall, very entertaining with delightful pictures. =)
