Correspondence of Pasteur and Thuillier Concerning Anthrax and Swine Fever Vaccinations

Rate this book
This book consists of the correspondence between Louis Pasteur and his assistant Louis Thuillier. Both men were instrumental in developing vaccinations against rabies, swine fever and anthrax. In 1882-1883, Thuillier was sent throughout Germany and Austria-Hungary to conduct a series of vaccinations of sheep and cattle against anthrax. On these trips he did further research of the disease, and conducted an on-going correspondence of letters with Pasteur, mentioning the successes and disappointments Thuillier had with the vaccine. The letters that help form the basis of this publication are part of the Reynolds Historical Library Collection at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, which holds the greatest number of original Pasteur letters in any single collection outside France. A parallel English translation accompanies the French text, with the French text running on the left page and the English text on the right.
