Story - Frank, the frog, is carried off into the sky hanging from a balloon. At first this seems like an exciting adventure, but soon Frank just wants to go home.
I was really excited when my son and I found this book at the library. Anything that encourages him to read gets 5 stars in my book. The story is ultimately about perception which is quite cute at the end. While I absolutely love the idea of reading together, I didn't really feel like he was reading or being challenged to read. Asking him to read the word, "chair" in large letters under a giant picture of a chair was a bit of a giveaway. In other words, he wasn't reading the word, he was looking at the picture. I kept reminding myself, however, that some reading specialist out there would probably tell me this is part of the process and they're probably right. I think it did more for his confidence than mine and ultimately that is what matters and what we're hoping to build in him. We will try more in the series and see how it goes.
This book is actually for two readers to read together. The left side of the page is for an adult/parent to read and the right side is for the child. The child's pages are filled with only one or two words that s/he can easily recognize by the pictures as well. Good for pointing out that words and pictures often go together in stories. Main character is a frog.
Frog, Mouse, and Duck are playing ball. When he sails over all their heads and goes through the giant's window, they are afraid. Frog musters up his courage and goes into the house to retrieve the ball. But, the surprise is on him...things aren't always as they seem.
