What do you do when you find out your whole life wasn't true?

Kira Dawson comes home to her mother, father and sister from boarding school. She's going to start going to the public school and trying to be a normal teenager. This doesn't happen. Oh, she meets new friends at school, gets in with their group. Has a little crush on Luke but he turns out to be more like a brother and she gets a crush on one of the evil misfits, Tristan. But is Tristan all that he seems? Is he really as bad as his friends? Possibly not.

 :

He was the kind of boy you wanted to comfort and to kiss, the kind you knew would break your heart yet hoped against all odds wouldn't. The bad boy with a soft heart, the sort of trap a girl knowingly jumped into.

I saw a lot of Twilight in this book (I love Twilight and that's not a big deal) and it threw me off at first. The blurb mentions Twilight, The Vampire Diaries and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I can see Kira being a strong female character like Elena in VD and Buffy. She gets told she's a conduit and she can do all of this stuff, she might can destroy the world. I think she handled it all pretty good and she does kick some butt in the book.

I liked the book well enough, I loved Tristan and I loved Kira's character. She is a kind person that takes on what she has to take on and does it good. There are just random things that didn't make this a 4 or 5 star book for me and I can't quite put my finger on it. Either way there are plenty who love the book and plenty who will love it more than me.

FYI: at the time of this review it's free on kindle =)

I might continue with he series later on because I do have a crush on Tristan and I love the concept of the Conduits. Hopefully I will love the rest of them more.

Kira Dawson has the power to burn vampires to a crisp. The problem is, she doesn't know it yet. The even bigger problem is, she's dating one.

When Kira Dawson moves to South Carolina, she meets Luke, a blond goofball who quickly becomes her best friend, and Tristan, a mysterious bad boy who sends shivers down her spine. Kira knows they're keeping secrets, but when she discovers Tristan's lust for blood and her own dormant mystical powers, Kira is forced to fight for her life and make the heart-breaking decision between the familiar comfort of friendship and the fiery passion of love.

Ignite was another book from Tea's Wishlist challenge. I did enjoy this book, even though I found it slow at first. We have a familiar setting of a girl that moves to a new place, makes friends and enemies right away, and discovers secrets. And, it turns out the boy she loves is a vampire.

The first though I have in the first chapters, and I believe you did too, was - Twilight much? But, no. Once you get to read further into the book, you realise that Kira is nothing like Bella. And Tristan is nothing like Edward either...

This book is so different, and somewhat refreshing from all vampire books I have read so far. It isn't even a book about vampires. It's a book about this girl that can mirror the sun's light and heat from her hands, and is able to hurt only vampires. With her friend, Luke, Kira will discover that she has this ability, and so much more, she will discover secrets about her past that will change her life forever, and she will have to choose between her best friend or the love of her life.

I thought that this book might have used more action, as I felt a bit bored, especially at the beginning, and sometimes during some parts of the book.

I loved Kira's character - she is the typical girl that moves and tries her best to fit in.
I loved Tristan - he proves that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, and sometimes people aren't what everyone thinks they are, and your environment doesn't define you as a person.
I didn't like Luke - I know he was there with a mission to tell Kira her secrets and protect her - but what friend would make you feel guilty about every single choice you have to make in your life. He is like, the very attached and overprotective boyfriend, that isn't her boyfriend.

Overall, it was a great refreshing read, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series. If you love vampire high-school stories, women that discover they have powers, a lot of forbidden love and paranormal fantasy - you will really enjoy this book. Solid 4 stars from me!

When I read the synopsis for Ignite by Kaitlyn Davis, I didn’t really know what to expect. A girl involved in a triangle with two boys seems to be the norm for a typical Young Adult book these days, partially due to the popularity of the Twilight movies and books. However, because of the book’s description, I was excited to read about a girl who had powers of her own; a heroine who wouldn’t be the typical damsel in distress, but a young female who could hold her own.

We’re introduced to Kira Dawson, who’s recently moved to South Carolina after spending years at a boarding school in New York. She meets Luke Bowrey, a fun loving jokester, who she immediately takes a liking to. She and Luke develop a friendship, but it’s obvious that Luke has a bit of a crush on her. However, Kira has eyes for the mysterious Tristan, who makes her feel things she can’t explain. Tristan is pale, with cold icy blue eyes. His bruises seem to heal unbelievably fast and he exhibits supernatural strength. Her new friend Luke has unusual colored eyes, he strongly dislikes Tristan (and his friends), and he’s obviously keeping secrets from Kira. As all three characters get to know one another, secrets are revealed, and we learn that both boys are more than they seem, and that Kira may hold the power to destroy them all.

The plot was interesting and it moved along at a good pace. I never felt that the story was slow or boring. I was pleasantly surprised by the author’s take on vampire lore. It was unique and intriguing, and I wouldn’t mind learning more about her version of vampires. I also wouldn’t mind more exploration into the world of conduits. Conduits are superhuman beings who protect and defend society against vampires. There are two versions. Those who use their power to weaken vampires are known as Protectors. Those who use their powers to kill vampires are known as Punishers. It will be interesting to see how this world of conduits and vampires evolve in future books.

I really wanted to like and connect with the characters, especially Kira, but I found that some of the characters lacked a depth and exploration that is essential for producing dynamic and loveable characters. Kira made me feel a mixture of emotions. On one hand, I felt she handled herself quite well considering the nature of a couple of secrets that were revealed to her. She was by no means a wimp, and readily did what needed to be done in the face of danger and uncertainty. On the other hand, she spent a good portion of the book stalking Tristan, was unbelievably stubborn, and proceeded to fall in love with a “dangerous” boy she had only known for about a month.

Tristan’s characterization was even more problematic. He’s described as a dangerous bad boy on more than one occasion. In reality he was a broody and tortured soul. He spent most of the book making painful facial expressions and telling Kira how they couldn’t be together. I never really felt that Kira, or anyone else for that matter, was in any danger around him. He came across as one-dimensional and as a consequence, I didn’t buy Tristan and Kira’s connection or love for one another.

Luke was a delightfully strong and likeable character. I enjoyed him in the role of an older, fun, witty and protective big brother, even though he was romantically attracted to Kira. He has the potential to grow into a well-rounded character, if he’s allowed to be more than a third wheel in Tristan and Kira’s love affair. More background on Luke and his family in the next book would be greatly appreciated.

Overall, I give Ignite two stars. I had some issues with the main romance, the grammatical and spelling errors, and felt some of the characters fell flat. However, the mystery, magic, and plot twists kept me interested. I would recommend it to those who enjoy paranormal YA romances and vampires.

Why has no one read/reviewed this book yet!?! Oh WOW!
I'm so grateful for Epilogues at the end of books - because Holy COW that was a bad place to end the book – but the Epilogue helped a lot  it’s also a GREAT way to look forward to the next one :) Can't wait now!

This book was awesome! I love the idea! "She was a Superhuman Conduit of Sunlight - a protector against vampires that would otherwise be unstoppable. "

It's awesome to read about - Ok in the beginning we met Kira - she is home now in Charleston because her father was laid off from work and couldn't afford boarding school in New York anymore - she was ok with that. She loved her family and loved to be close to them, so she agreed to go to her senior year of high school at home.

When she got to the school, she got her schedule and walked out of the office door ready to conquer her day - looking for some sign to tell her where her first class was, she bumped into a chest "Are you new?" A handsome blond guy with a lanky build was standing behind her looking over her shoulder at her paper. ... He told her his class was next to her, so she started to follow him. "So you are new, right, or have my great looks made you speechless?" " Yeah I'm new, and what good looks? You're so tall I can't even see your face."

The friendship between Luke and Kira is great! I would love to have a friend like him - he is a protector, a big brother and a best friend all in one. He took pitty on her and showed her around. grabbed a hold of her at lunch and introduced her to the other 4 newbie’s in the school that haven't really found their place in the school. But the 5 of them were just happy to be in their own little group.

When Kira's eyes met the Misfits out in the courtyard , something strange happened. But Kira couldn't figure out what it was.
In their next class, Luke was in there with her. And so was the group of Misfits - when Luke was pre-occupied with the girl and 2 of the guys, the 3rd guy's eyes studied Kira - "who are you?" is what he asked... and Kira was trapped in his gaze could only answer her name.

Tristan *sigh* So dreamy, so sexy, so bad boy gotta have him, but know he's going to break my heart anyways but i don't care -

The story is fun, exciting and full of drama! Conduit's vs Vampires - her whole world as she knew it (nice and normal) turned completely upside down, inside out and every other twisted way imaginable - and she only could rely on 2 people to trust - Luke - the Protector, whose sole purpose was to protect people from evil Vampires and teach her about her new life - and Tristan, a Vampire whose sole purpose was to protect Kira from harm -

I'm really excited I got the chance to read this book -

Thank you to Kaitlyn Davis and the Read It & Reap Review for the opportunity to read this book.

When I first started reading this book I felt like I was reading fanfic of Twilight. We have a new girl at school, a group of misfits that are vampires and a guy friend (protector) who loves her but she only feels like friends with him. It all felt like Twilight.

Then about halfway through the book it took a turn and became it's own story with a new mythology of how vampires came to be. YA is not something I typically enjoy reading but I found this one entertaining.

Kira is an anomaly, in fact, she's one of a kind. I'm very curious where the storyline is going and I look forward to reading the next one. There is so much potential for this series and I hope the author can carry it forward.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I fell in love with this book!! I love Kira, she's so strong and follows her heart; even though she knows she could get hurt and that it's wrong. She doesn't stand down.
Then there's Luke, he's so sweet and protective. You can tell that he really care's for Kira, and that may be he might like her. He does whatever it takes to protect her and be there for her.
And then there's Tristan, I love him! You know theres something about him but you just can't help to like him. And the way he care's for Kira that he's willing to do whatever it takes. He knows he should stay away for her but he can't; he even warns her and tells her that they can't be, they she will hate him.
This book was simply amazing. I laughed at parts and then I even teared up at some parts. I could read this book over and over again. I can not wait to read the second one!
If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.

(I was given this book for free on a read-to-review basis.)
17-year-old Kira has been away at boarding school for several years, but due to financial troubles she now has to complete her senior year at the high school near to her parents’ house.

Starting at her new school, the last thing that Kira expects to have trouble with is vampires. But the gorgeous Tristan is just too good to resist, even if she wanted to.

The trouble is that Tristan is blowing hot and cold, kissing her one minute and running from her the next, and her new friend Luke seems to hate him and she doesn’t know why! Kira can’t turn her back on Tristan though, she is drawn to him, and what’s more he saved her life – surely that must count for something?

Kira doesn’t understand Luke’s problem until Tristan’s friends attack her, and something truly extraordinary happens. What Kira doesn't know is that her parents were conduits - people who could kill or harm vampires. The problem is that her parents were from two different camps (a bit like romeo and juliet), and she is a result of this strange union.

I enjoyed this book. I found it a bit awkward at the beginning, and I got a horrible twilight feeling, which made it difficult to get in to. To be honest it didn’t really hold my attention all that well until I was quite a way in, but it did get better about half way in.

The romance between Kira and Tristan was real and sweet, and Luke did his best to help her when she needed him. I liked the new take on killing vampires – it was different to find vampires that can go out in the sun unharmed.

What I didn’t like was the whole love-triangle thing. I am so sick of love triangles, and I never liked them to begin with.

so it will be interesting to see where the story goes from here.

I already read the Raven and the Dove series. I also finished the Fairytale series and now it was time to dive into another series by Kaitlyn Davis. I have to admit that I didn't really check what the other series were about. I just randomly ordered one. And when I read the first two chapters yesterday I somehow had the impression this would be a delicious old school ya with love triangles, vampires and special snowflake leading ladies. And I was looking forward to it.

Let me start with stating that I was totally and absolutely wrong. Yes, in a way this was an old school YA in atmosphere, writing style and setting and yet Davis clearly steered away from the obvious tropes I was expecting. We didn't get a love triangle and although our leading lady was unique. She was unique because beings like her are forbidden and their existence is therefore prevented by law. Not so much a special snowflake. More a dangerous weapon created ignoring the rules.

Since this is the first book in the series and since Kira has absolutely no idea about anything at all, there is a lot of world building and explaining in this book. Normally I'm not a huge fan of info-dumps and characters telling lengthy stories to get the mythology across, but in this case it felt very natural for people to tell those stories. Because not just we but also Kira needed to know these stories to find her place in the world and the person she can become.

And Kira's journey, taking everything in, trying to deal with the hand she was dealt, trying to figure out what she had to do and wanted to do, was amazing to witness and it's quite clear this is only the beginning. And even though there were a lot of moments where Kira panicked and cried, I still thought she was an amazingly strong character, standing for the things she believed in and always putting those she loves first.

I can't wait to continue the series!

We meet Kira as she starts a new high school. She quickly joins the new kid clique with Luke but is also drawn to Tristan who is part of the misfits group. Turns out the misfits are just a group of vampires, and when they find Tristan and Kira together they attack Kira which in turn ignites her vampire fighting powers - yay.

So this is like Buffy meets Twilight. I admit that I kept comparing it to Twilight, which might not really be fair. It's not as good and is more immature. Trying to put that comparison aside, this book is still just average for me. I tend to give a little leeway to 1st books in a series while authors set up the worlds and build the plot and characters, and I'm willing to read one more in the series to give it a chance to hook me.

What we have here is a different kind of love triangle. Kira comes to South Carolina to live with her family after years at a boarding school in New York. She has to fit in at a new school and make new friends in a place where she has only spent summers. She is quickly integrated into the group of other newcomers meeting Luke, Emma, Dave and Miles. They become friends but she is also fascinated by a group that her new friends call the Misfits. The Misfits seem equally fascinated by her and begin staring at her whenever they are around. She is especially fascinated with Tristan. According to her, he has that rebel without a cause, bad boy look going along with a killer bod, black hair, and icy blue eyes.

Her new friend Luke and Tristan are enemies but neither will explain why. After a few interesting events, including a near drowning while surfing and being saved by Tristan, Kira's crush deepens. She seems to keep running into Tristan although he does try to stay away from her. It isn't until she is attacked by the Misfits and exhibits strange powers that things start to come clear.

Kira is a conduit. Conduits are the only ones who can kill vampires which is what the Misfits are. But there are two kinds of conduits - Protectors and Punishers - and Kira is the forbidden child of a Punisher father and a Protector mother. Her parents were killed when she was little and she has been raised by her aunt and uncle not knowing they weren't her parents. Luke has been sent by the Protectors to guard and train her. They become good friends as he teaches her about conduits and she learns what she can do. Apparently being the child of both a Punisher and Protector has given Kira some unique powers too. She is able to use her powers to heal which Luke is reluctant to share with the Council that sent him to guard her.

Luke becomes her best friend but Tristan is the one she loves despite all Luke can do to convince her that all vampires are evil. She sees something special in Tristan. They get to know each other and secretly date. His companions and hers are both opposed to the relationship. She is convinced that he is not evil and that he won't hurt her. This was a nice romance and had some exciting parts for the action lover. It is also a story of a girl who learns that she has a hidden history.

I liked the story but felt it could have done with some copy-editing. There were a few wrong words and a number of grammatical things that were sort of jarring. I have a personal phobia about misusing "loose" and "lose" and the author was guilty of this. Also there were a quite a few instances when "her" was used when "she" would have been more correct. Here is example of the wrong word choice:

"Your foe confidence is amusing," Diana said and grabbed hold of Kira's chin.

I had to read that one a couple of times before I realized that the author meant "faux." None of these things hurt the flow or excitement in the story but they were a bit distracting.

I recommend this story for young adults who want to read one more story about vampires and the girls who love them. The concept of conduits who are able to kill vampires was a nice touch. And, naturally, the author has a sequel in the works.

This book was given to me to read and review. I must say that I was sooooooooo happy that I got on the list in time and was given the opportunity to read this. I loooooooved it! Love the characters!!! The plot is awesome!! Any book that has people fighting for their love and fighting to be together is my kinda book. Loved Kira and Tristan. I must say when I started reading it, it definitely reminded me of Twilight. The more I read it the more I thought so. Especially with Diana. The whole scenario reminded me of Victoria trying to get Bella. Only problem I really had with the book was all the spelling errors I came across in the second half. Overall, I loved the book and I can't wait to read the next one!!!! OH , I think Luke secretly loves Kira. Ahhhh can't wait to see how everything plays out!!!

I found this book to be very intriguing and different. I don't think I have ever read a vampire book like this before. It kept my interest and I plan one reading the second book. It's refreshing to read a book that has vampires in it but with a different twist. I love all things vampires for they are my favorite super natural beings to read about. Very cleverly writing. For some of the bad reviews, you really have to take the book for what it is worth. It's a young adult novel. Easy read and enjoyable.

One of the most enjoyable novels I read. This is a kind of a book that you can flavor all the tastes of feelings; for instance, Romance, happiness, sorrow, anger, etc...
And there was some familiarity between this story and the Twilight saga series. Characters in the Ignite always kept reminding me about the characters in the Twilight saga. Yeah, Tristan as Edward, Kira as Bella & Luke as Jacob. Twilight may be the author's inspiration for this story. Rather than the similarity between this story and the Twilight, author was able to give something fresh to read. I admired that lot.

As much as I hate it when people compare books to Twilight, I really had no choice with this one. The beginning was so parallel I had to check the title and author several times to confirm it was, indeed, not Twilight. Keep in mind that, even though its similar, there are plenty of differences through the rest of the story. I wouldn't have given it four stars for being Twilight's twin. Here's a little (long) summary of what its about. Pretty much the whole summary is a giant spoiler, so if you would like to read the book first, then here is your warning :)

This is where the story gets interesting. I'll leave you to read the good parts now :)

It's been a while since I have read a really good YA vampire book. They have become so cliche that I often avoid them. Imagine my surprise when I picked up Ignite and fell in love with it by page 17. I emailed Kaitlyn that minute to tell her how much I was enjoying Ignite. At this point, I wasn't even really certain that the book was about vampires but I suspected as much. But hey...these vampires surfed. I loved Kaitlyn's lore surrounding her vampires. It was unique and well thought out.

Kira make a great heroin. She is faced with adversity and doesn't back down. She knows what she wants and she's going to get him...no matter what anyone says. I loved that she didn't do the whole "which one do I want" thing. She loves Luke as a friend and respects his opinion but that is as far as it goes. Tristan is the one for her, the one who makes her all warm and gooey, the one she dreams about, the one who brings out the fire in her...literally.

I loved Tristan but I felt his character was underdeveloped. He was supposed to be the bad boy but I never got that feel from him. I kind of felt like he had no real internal struggle. He wanted Kira and he would make it happen. Easy peasy. Sexy - definitely, tortured - certainly, take home and have my way with - oh hell yeah. But things were just too easy for him.

Luke is great. He's the supportive best friend when he needed to be and the protective older brother at other times. I enjoyed his light-hearted interactions with his friends and fierce reactions to Tristan and his crew of misfits. Luke was completely believable in his role.

Kira and Luke are conduits. They are the only things that can harm vampires...ever. They don't do it by ripping their bodies to shreds and burning them, they don't decapitate them, they don't stake them. They draw the sun into their body and use it as a weapon. Kira comes to Charleston without any knowledge of who or what she is. She realizes that Luke looks similar to her ex-boyfriend from up north and that his eyes are "psycho" like hers. At least that's what one of their friends point out.

Luke refers to Tristan and his friends as the "misfits." Of course, Luke knows more about them than he let's on. Luke has been sent to protect and watch Kira by the council. She was born to a Punisher and a Protector. These are two groups of people who have the power to either kill (Punishers) or weaken (Protectors) vampires. Punishers believe that vampires have no souls and therefore possess no ability to control themselves and care for others. Protectors believe that maybe vampires do have a chance at normality.

Kira has the powers of both Punisher and Protector which cause her to be a concern to her people and vampires, alike. Secrets will be revealed that leave Kira frustrated and upset with those she is closest too. Kira will have to learn to use her powers in order to save herself and quite possibly Luke and Tristan from death.

Truly, I enjoyed Ignite immensely. I did feel like certain aspects of the story weren't fleshed out enough and from time to time I got a Twilight feeling. That is not a bad thing in my book except to say certain parts lacked creativity. Overall, I would definitely recommend Ignite to anyone looking for a good YA Paranormal Romance.

Unique, Interesting Plot

One of the most interesting vampire premises I've read. It took all the stereotypes about vamps and extinguished them in a way that made sense and then created an entirely different "playbook" that was intriguing and unique. I also loved the conduit aspect of the plot; a species that are human but can easily balance the dangers of vamp immortality.

Childish, Tedious Writing Style

However, as good as the plot was, the writing style itself left a lot to be desired. The plot was slowed to a crawl with pages upon pages of trivial high school goings on that did nothing to move any part of the story along.

Love Triangle

This didn't really feel like the typical angsty love triangle. It was clear one boy was nothing but friend material and one boy heated her blood (no pun intended);) This was more of a forbidden love story. However, from problems mentioned below, I did read reviews from the rest of this series & discovered it turns into a full fledge love triangle, which is disappointing because the author went to great efforts to ensure a clear division between friend and boyfriend in book one that I can't imagine would be easily undone to ease reader uproar.

Date Rape Debacle

Another big problem I had was a scene where a popular boy spiked the female MC's punch in an obvious date rape attempt. She was saved from it by the vamp, but when confronted by her friends about what happened, she LIED FOR THE GUY WHO WOULDVE RAPED HER! "no, I think he just didn't realize. Someone else could've spiked the punch, I guess. I mean he drive me home. That was nice." The date rape guy didn't drive her home & she knew he was the one that did it... Yet she lied and put countless other girls at risk of the same scenario happening to them, but she is all prudish about vamps taking a girl out in the woods talking blood from her in a different scene. It was hypocritical, prudish, & (in real terms) is dangerous for teens reading these novels thinking the best way to handle such a situation would be to lie for the culprit. No, this is fiction, but we all know teens take away tala life messages from the stories.

Piss Poor Climax

The climax of the book was at the very end, & after feeling like it took forever to get to it, it was like a blip that readers could blink and miss & that didn't resolve anything but rather added another lingering question to the plot about the female MCs heritage.

I get this is a four part series, but I just feel like nothing really happened beyond the female and male MC coupling and identifying what each other are.

Continuing? WARNING : spoiler alert for book 4!

Despite the interesting plot premise, the slow pace & childish, simpleton style of the series made me very hesitant to continue forward with $10+ worth of ebooks to finish the series. So, I skipped to reviews for the final book and that sealed the fate of this series for me. Not to give spoilers, but when one review said to imagine Twilight ending with Bella in Jacob's arms, that was enough to make me run away:( Too much time was spent making readers root for the vamp in book one for me to just switch sides. Very few books, Shatter Me excluded, can take a reader on such switcharoo love without readers being seriously pissed!

First and foremost, I've been seeing so much distaste for this book and bad reviews and I literally want to tell these people to SHUT UP! Just shut the hell up!

Ignite is the first of its kind and what some have failed to see is the originality in the plot and story development. If you want an un-whiny high school student, go read an NA novel and eat some cake. YA is YA. So what if the character whines or cries? It just makes her so much more REAL.

So, back to why I loved this book so much.

I picked this book up back when it was free on Amazon and I consumed it in a day. I've recently gotten the chance to read book 2 and 3, and I loved them just as much. IGNITE had everything for me--vampires, mystery, a kickass heroine, and a sexy love triangle to set my blood ablaze! I didn't know what to expect, but Tristan and Luke were such great secondary characters. Kira was a great MC and I really connected with her on levels that I never thought I would. I felt myself rooting for all of them.

I don't think there was a single chapter I didn't consume. Davis hooks the reader in from the prologue, and the story doesn't slow from there! IGNITE is a witty, fun, and adventurous read that can be easily devoured in one sitting. It's that book that leaves you with thoughts of the characters long after you've finished reading. Truly, as I'm writing this I'm thinking about Tristen. *sexy sigh*

I've recently got my cousin into this series and she's just as obsessed as I am. I recommend this to EVERYONE. I say ignore the bad reviews and give it a try. In my opinion, it was friggin' worth it and then som!

This was possibly one of the worst, most predictable books I have ever read in my entire life.

Not only was the plot line so predictable I was literally screaming "HE'S A VAMPIRE YOU IDIOT" at the book after the first chapter or so (bare in mind I did not read the blurb before I read the book), but the characters and dialogue was so elementary school it makes me wonder who in the sane heck gave the author a university qualification?
Like, thank you very much, we know that sarcasm is used when people want to make a joke of a situation, and no male in the history of ever, vampire or not, would ever say "I let my emotional walls down for you".
Also, someone should have a firm talking to with her editor. There were so many spelling mistakes and grammatical errors I found myself wondering if anybody had actually proof read it before publishing.
The sad part is that it had all the makings for a good story. The idea itself is pretty interesting and if only someone had given the author a bit of guidance while writing maybe it would have been better than it was. It was definitely entertaining though and I will be reading the next two books, if only for a good laugh and to take my mind off of things. The best part of this book was really how terrible it is. I have enjoyed laughing at this immensely and it is the soul reason for the two starts I generously gave.

Initially I was thinking the group of 4 had to be aliens lol. It felt a little like Twilight so I should have known. I'm not a huge fan of vampires but this book is different anyway. Questioning whether all vampires are evil is an interesting plot twist unlike other young adult books. I liked Tristan from the beginning, vampire or not. He seemed and still does to be the most human out of every character in the book. I liked hearing his background & finding out how old he really is. Kira was likeable but she didn't stay with me as the other characters did. She's a vampire killer hybrid. I liked Luke & could understand & have felt the conflict of liking someone more than they like you. He is definitely Kira's best friend but wants to be more. I hope a love interest pops up somewhere for him.
Tristan has accepted the idea of having a relationship with Kira, even though she kills vampires. She should tell him about the almost kiss between Luke & her. Luke's thoughts have the ability to interfere with her reasoning. She must develop a wall and/or block it. Tristan deserves complete loyalty & not half truths. This omission by Kira annoyed me to no end. Kira knows he's insecure enough & finding out later will hurt more.
I am wondering if her long lost mother will turn out to be the mother and/or master vampire. It should be interesting. I've started book 2 already. Happy reading!

The word I would use to describe this book is Awesome! The author does an excellent job of developing the characters and the plot. This story hooked my attention and never let it go.

Kira just move to South Carolina from New York where she was attending a boarding school there. First day at her new school she meets Luke who shows her around and introduces her to his friends. They are all relatively new to the school so they know the struggles she will face fitting in. Kira and Luke instantly bond and as the story unfolds that bond grows stronger. Kira is also introduced to Tristan who belongs to a group that seems dark and dangerous. There is something about Tristan that attracts her. Will she choose Luke or Tristan?

I would definitely recommend this book! It is not only the love triangle which I already mentioned but also the almost indestructible vampires and the introduction to conduits who channel the suns energy to protect the world from those vampires that will keep you interested. Davis gives us an excerpt of the next installment and I can't wait!!

I really loved this book! It took me about two days to read, which is fast for me. I loved the characters. Luke was a really funny best friend and Tristan was definitely everything I love in a male lead. Kira was strong, especially with how many twists were thrown at her.

I loved the plot, too! At first, I was doubtful because the first chapter sounded a little been there/done that, but as soon as the new species was introduced, I was totally sold. I loved that there was a focus on action and the book wasn't just a drawn out internal monologue.

I quite enjoyed the writing too. I loved the flow of the sentences and thought they helped move the pace along. I just bought it a few days ago, so I didnt notice any grammatical errors, maybe its been edited since some of these other reviews? Maybe I just was too into the story to notice, lol. Idk!

Anyway, I would definitely recommend.

I received this book to review. I was first drawn to this book by the cover it's beautifully done, the cover is exactly how I pictured Kira. The characters are well developed you instantly fall in love with Kira she's the kind of girl you want to be friends with. For the most part the book felt very twilightish with the vampires concept however that is where it ended. I liked that Kira and Tristan where each others Achilles heel as you could say, since they could kill each other. I'm not a huge fan of love triangles I did at first get the impression there might be one. I was expecting to see one with Kira, Tristan and Luke but I never really got that impression it was more like a brother and sister thing for them. Overall I enjoyed the book very much to me the characters are what made the story.

A kind of neat story concept. Good cover art on the Kindle edtion. It is in major need of an editor. Definitely has touches of Vampire Diaries and Twilight. It was just... eh. I spent most of my "reading" time shaking my head and wondering why no one hires an editor anymore. I thought English might not be the writer's first language, but after a visit to her Facebook page, realized she has a B.A. in Writing Seminars. It reads more like a middle-school aged girl's attempt at writing a vamp novel, than that of a woman with a college degree. How can you go to college for writing and not know the proper rules of basic grammar? The plot doesn't pack enough punch to make it a page-turner. The characters were a bit bland and in need of development. I don't plan to continue the series.

I wasn't really hooked on the story line. Kira seemed a bit empty headed to me. Her character could have had more of everything. But the ending makes me consider reading the next book. Her powers are pretty awesome, but when I realized it was a vampire book I almost stopped reading. I used to like vampire books. Now I just don't. I think readers are looking for something new and refreshing. I felt a little of that reading about her powers, but I wanted more from the whole book. It did have a few things that were the same as "Twilight".

Totally enjoyed this book and I think it will be a really good series. Tristan is the bad boy that everyone can't help but love and Kira was a good lead character. Luke as her best friend was also a very strong likable character. I liked the premise of the story and their powers were unique which kept the story fresh. Awesome job.
