The first in a new erotic contemporary romance series, Inappropriate Thoughts is a scorching mix of desire, sex, love and slightly inappropriate comedy.
Jillian Grayson is a disillusioned divorcée and best-selling romance novelist who can't write a chapter without her hunky male heartthrob suffering ED, an STD, or even worse. Brian Nash is a tennis-obsessed, college senior who's unlucky in love and the roommate and best friend of Jillian's son, Rob.
When Rob brings Brian home for spring break and he meets the surprisingly young and also tennis passionate Jillian, their shared interest quickly develops into an intense mutual attraction. After nearly giving in to their feelings, they hatch a plan, while under the influence (of something more than just the perfect Miami night), to be friends with "partial" benefits complete with rules to define the boundaries.
Will the lonely pair continue with this distinctive relationship, actually explore their desires or will they discover all of it is a really bad idea?

Inappropriate Thoughts is a more explicit version of another currently available novel. For more information please see the author page.
Ian Dalton is the Kindle-bestselling author of the Victoria Wilde novels, which feature strong, sexy female characters -- women who seize every opportunity for fun and don’t let a little thing like age stand in the way of love or passion.
Dalton brings a fresh perspective on the "erotic romance" genre -- seamlessly working it to the max while poking just a little harmless fun at it along the way. His work has gained fans around the world who have proclaimed his books as "must reads," "mind blowing," and more.
One of Dalton's specialties is capturing the intense desire between an older woman and a younger man who are completely crazy about one another, but are desperately trying to squash their feelings. He brilliantly explores the passionate thoughts floating around in their heads as they pine away. The result is steamy, tender, often funny writing at its best.
However, Dalton's greatest creation is the incomparable, fan favorite Victoria Wilde. The character has emerged as a life-savoring heroine, with readers around the web asking, "What would Victoria do?" We're not always sure but we know it will be fun!
If you enjoy romance stories with flirty banter, steamy sex, and some hilarious escapades as the guy tries to convince his love they’re meant to be, you’ll enjoy Ian Dalton's books.
Dalton has also released many of his books in a less explicit form under the pen name Luke Young. If you'd like a little less heat with your sex comedy, be sure to check out Young's Friends With…Benefits series. ****This book was part of a blog tour, I received a copy for my honest review**** Jillian is a highly successful romance novelist who is suffering from a weird sort of writers block, since finding her husband servicing another woman in their pool. She has a college aged son, Rob, who is friends with Brian Nash. Brian is in an unsuccessful relationship, but finds he is stuck on this girl and can't get her out of his mind. Rob persuades him to come home with him over the spring break holidays, the big drawing card, Rob's mom's house has a tennis court and Brian is a lover of the game. Jillian has had a string of unsuccessful blind dates since her divorce so when her son and his hot friend come home for the break she finds herself, inappropriately drawn to Brian. Brian is equally drawn to his friends surprisingly young, tennis mad mother. Wild fantasies and inappropriate thoughts from both parties slowly wear down this pairs resistance to each other and they both start to wonder whether maybe a fling wouldn't be so bad. I had high expectations for this book. The idea of a woman coming out of her divorce and exploring her sexuality with a younger guy really sounded appealing, and it was, to a point. What got in the way of my enjoyment of this book was the Jillian's best friend Victoria, she was like Samantha from Sex in the City on steroids. And we got too many parts of the book from her perspective for me to enjoy it. I understand from the title that this will be a series based around this character, however for me, the book was sold on Jillian and Brian being the main couple, Victoria and her wild cougar antic's just got in the way of me developing any real feelings or interest in them. I understand that her and Jillian's conversations were probably supposed to be humorous, and a few were, but after a while I just found it annoying. I started skimming and I hate skim reading. There really was just too much going on, too many storylines. The focus for me just wasn't where I wanted it to be. The pacing of the book was also a little off for me. The first half of the book was really slow and I found it really hard to get into. I hate giving a bad review, especially to a book that I thought I would enjoy, but this book was just not for me.
I must admit to a moment of hesitation before I read this book......my hesitation was could a man write romantic erotica without it being 'icky'? Let me assure you he can...the 'ick factor' scale didn't even register....good to know I enjoyed the characters, I found parts of it 'laugh out loud' and other parts just plain hot! For me it was a book that ticked most of the boxes I like in a read. In addition I also discovered a new phrase ......'going around the world'.......if I get nothing else out if this book I can now put a name to something, that according to Victoria, would prevent the break up of so many marriages.......(really to decode this you need to read the book!) To think all these years I've been calling it something else....good to know, I liked it enough to buy the rest of the series and plan to read them with a large glass of a cheeky Pinot noir!
Hi Ian. I stayed up almost the entire night because I couldn't put your book, Inappropriate Thoughts, down. I have been in a reading funk for a couple of months now and kept saying I didn't want to read about borderline BDSM rape sex in an erotic novel. Lol. I was terrified to read your book, but I went for it. It is the first erotic book I have read where I laughed my ass off, eyes widened in awe, and couldn't stop reading. It was perfect! I write, so naturally I took notes as I was reading. I loved your style. I couldn't believe how natural the dialogue was written. It felt like I was hearing my friends talking in reality. The "high" scene reminded me of how they talk in "This Is 40", and I freaking LOVE that movie! The humor wasn't forced, silly, or corny, just downright awesome. I will admit, I skimmed through the tennis stuff, but you didn't overwrite it so it's all good. The plot was perfect and focused on the relationships without dissecting the hell out of emotions. Oh, and the sex scenes. Whew! I am not sure if your book "Shrinkage" was a book to help men or not, but I am glad you are now putting your energies into books geared toward women. I am amazed how you are able to relate so easily to a woman's emotions, thoughts, and fantasies! Okay, I'm done feeding your ego now, and so I don't look like a kiss ass, I would just like to thank you for writing such a great book. Now I have to buy the whole series. That was your goal wasn't it, you evil man?! ******************************************************************** Ian responded immediately and thanked me for my compliments. I do not give credit where credit isn't due, though. This author is a funny, kind, and talented person. He has taken time to interact with me as one of his fans and has helped me with my writing as an aspiring author. Buy his book, or get it while on free promo. It's an absolute steal. Be sure to tell all your friends and read the rest of the series. This guy deserves to benefit from his hard work and I am so happy he is sharing his twisted and hilarious views with the world!
This is a longer and more erotic version of the Friends with Partial benefits book. And OMG I LOVE the Friends with Partial benefits, but I'm so in love with this book!! This book is so fun, erotic, HOT, intens and such a joy to read!!! The sexscenes is so HOT, well-written, filled with erotic, passion and are very realistic. Actally the hole story/books is like that. So I can only say: READ it!!! You will have a great time!!!! ;)
So here I was, sitting at Wicked Girls Book Weekend author event, totally mesmerized by all these authors that I seriously fan girl over, when someone introduces me to Ian Dalton/Luke Young. To be honest, I had never heard of him. So of course, the introducee explains that he writes these extremely erotic, oh so amazing books and I of course was like "where do I sign up?" Funny thing was, at the author event, I won a signed paperback book of "Friends with Partial Benefits" by Luke which is the not so racy version of his Victoria Wilde Series.
Trinity told me that she has read the first book, Inappropriate Thoughts, and as much as I was the one for steamy, I needed to get on this soon! So, that's how I began my extreme love affair with all things Ian Dalton!
Inappropriate Thoughts introduces us to all the characters that we get to follow along through the series. Jillian Grayson, a recently cheated on divorcee is a romance writer who has hit a serious writers block since her divorce. Every leading man ends up loosing his penis, contracting some terrible disease or dying by the middle of the story. When her son brings home a friend (Brian) for Spring Break, her hormones are kicked in to high gear seeing this extremely attractive young man who shares so many similar interests, including tennis! As they are thrust into some sticky situations and under some extreme encouragement by her best friend Victoria, Jillian and Brian come to an agreement that they will be friends with "partial" benefits. This first book is full of humor and situations that include some pool activities, too much drinking and even a bit of streaking through the neighborhood. There is also a crazy limber ex-girlfriend who is a technical virgin since she only does anal?!?! Yeah, I had those same thoughts, WTF!
So it's kind of neat to be part of the Sweet and Spicy tour with this book and see the tame version and the kinky version of the same book.
This book had tons of quirks, hilarious attempts at bad dating and crazy sexual encounters. Every time Victoria is in a scene you know you are in for it. Victoria reminds me of Samantha from Sex in the city. With her antics and sexual appetite.
If this journey was only Brian and Jillian it might not has been as good even thought I love them as a couple but you add Victoria, Rob, Laura, Natalie and a whole bunch of bad dates then it equals a book full of fun encounters and tons of naughty.
Can't wait to find out more with the gang and what Jillian's answer will be.
I recieved this book free from the author,so would like to thank him for the opportunity of reading his book . I have to confess i havent read alot of books by male authors in fact this is only the third book i have picked up by a male author, the first Erotic novel wrote by a man. And i have to say i was pleasently suprised.I like Ian's writing style and i didnt find myself grossed out by any of the book. Infact it was pretty hot and i really liked the characters.Victoria is a hilarious character and she and Jillian had me in stitches of laughter quite often with some of the stuff they said. id recommend this book and ill definitely buy and read the others.I would like to see what happens between Jillian and Brian and how Rob reacts when he finds out about them.
Great story, I decided to plump for the more explicit version of Friends with Partial Benefits by Luke Young. This story is about Jillian a divorced romance writer how falls for her sons friend Brian, and before you think urgh how disgusting, it's not, it's a great story with laughter and love and I couldn't put it down. It builds into a brilliant story with the help of Jillian's best friend Victoria. What makes it even better is its written by a bloke !
Darlings, I have read my first erotic romance novel, Inappropriate Thoughts (Victoria Wilde #1) by a male writer! And I have to say...I LOVED IT!!! Ian Dalton is a really fantastic writer! Boy does he know how to get you worked up and leave you hangin’, girls! He builds the romance and the relationship throughout the book and the sexual tension so much that I almost wrote the author and said, “Hey Man, what’s the deal? Are they EVER going to hit the sheets or what?”
Seriously!!!
Considering the age difference and how the relationship starts between Jillian and Brian it does make sense to take time for them to get together. And maybe our male counterparts in romance erotica writing have a little more patience in getting their characters into the bed.
Mr. Dalton also does a masterful job at converging all the story lines together. There are several characters who he could write books about from their own points of view. Like Victoria, the fun filled friend, who could easily steal the limelight! She stays practically naked most of the time in this book. Or he could do a book based on the antics of Jillian’s college age son, Rob who seems to have some trouble being faithful to his longtime girlfriend, Laura.
Inappropriate Thoughts is very well written and I couldn’t put it down! I would rate this book with 5 stars. I will be reading the next book in this series for sure! I can’t wait to see what happen next!
The first in a new erotic contemporary romance series, Inappropriate Thoughts is a scorching mix of desire, sex, love and slightly inappropriate comedy. I am not sure who wrote inappropriate but I have a big crush on Victoria I love her to death! I think this books should be summed up as the juicy parts of Friends With Partial Benefits. Victoria, although she was my star, was not the center character in the "Friends" series. This book lets Victoria stand front and center. I personally will stalk the author until Victoria gets her own series. There! I said it and I stand for many ladies out there. MORE VICTORIA!

This is marked book #1 in the Victoria Wilde series, but it's actually 2nd after the prequel novella, Desperate Thoughts. This is the first m/f erotica series that I've read that was written by a man, and I think it's amazing! The story is fun, the characters are intelligent and quirky, and the sex is OMG! It's neat to see things from the perspective of a male mind, and let me just say that absolutely NONE of the hotness is lost! I started the next book as soon as I finished this one and plan to keep on until I've finished the series. The same characters appear throughout the series, with a few added here and there, and I'm completely invested in them now. I can't wait to see what happens next!
This is the 1st book in the new Victoria Wilde series and it hits the ground running! The characters are well written **I even find myself crushin on Brian ;-) hahaha** You get humorous shenanigans, quick wit just as well as hot & steamy sex scenes that leave you tingly and eager for more. The issues are real world that people can relate to and it is all balanced very well never leaving you hanging or restless. I was immediately drawn into this book and then rode the waves right to the last page, excited to read book 2. I would most definitely recommend this book as a must read. Sit back relax and enjoy!
I love this series. Yes a man can write a good erotic book without it being sleazy. It's funny and smoking hot in places. The things they learn from Victoria to try in bed crack you up. A sex therapist is the perfect job for her. Jillian and Brain at first thing their affair is just for fun till they both fall in love but how will her son Rob take the news of her sleeping with his best friend.
You will love this book if you don't mind lots of kinky sex with little romance plus some parts are so funny you will cry.
This is such a fun read! So many stories are predictable, but not this one! This author has a zany sense of adventure and it shows. After reading Inappropriate Thoughts, which I downloaded for free, I HAD to read the rest of the series. It was worth every penny. Jillian is an erotic writer who ends up having the hots for her son's best friend. Throw in her sex-crazed best friend (Victoria), a law suit, some mystery and dating mis-adventures, you have a really great read. I literally read all books in the series over 5 days. I had to know how it ended and was not disappointed!
This book is smoking hot!! Loved it! Funny, passionate, sexy! I loved it. It was even pretty realistic...I mean not in my world of living, but Im sure in the world of sex addicts and cougars this happens! LoL made a believer outta me. While there are some pretty intimate/sexual scenes in this book, it was well written would never know a man wrote it, so many great emotional scenes to tye you to the characters. I'm excited to read the rest!
4.5 This was such a great book. What a surprise this was. Honestly I was hesitant to read an erotica book written by a guy. But this author was so witty and creative that I was hooked right away. I couldn't put this book down. Then the end came and I was dying to know the answer to Brian's question. I cant wait to read the next one and see what happens next!
Author Luke Young sent me his book Friends With Partial Benefits a few months back. It had been on my TBR list before that, but I’ll admit it, the fact that it is written by a guy had me a little concerned, so it stayed on my tbr. Then I heard he has the same book with more sexy stuff….so I asked him to send me that. Because, well, I’m a horn-dog. I admit it. So he sent me Inappropriate Thoughts, written under the pen name of Ian Dalton. This is the same book as Friends with Partial Benefits, with 30 extra pages of smut. No complaints here! If you aren’t sure which series to read check out the comparison of the two series here. I also have the series order for both posted. See the Friends with….Benefits Series by Luke Young here. See the racier Victoria Wilde series order by Ian Dalton here, this book is in the latter series.
All I can say is “why did I wait so long?” I love funny romances, and I had a great time reading this one. It was a perfect break from the overly intense YAs, and the the overly hot billionaire alphas. At no time did I feel that the author being a male detracted from the book, and I have to say, I think this guy’s wife must be pretty lucky.
Jillian Grayson is a bestselling erotic romance novelist. Since she divorced her husband after she caught him cheating on her in her pool, she has not been able to write any good scenes without the male hero having embarrassing difficulties. The dates she goes on go from bad to worse (but are pretty hysterical). Jillian has made a good living from her books and lives in a beautiful home with a pool and tennis court (she loves tennis) in Miami. She has a son in his senior year of college, and despite what she writes, she is fairly conservative, except for her crazy horny BFF, Victoria (think Samantha from Sex in the City, but even MORE.)
Brian Nash is a tennis junkie, and roommate and best friend of Jillian’s son, Rob. While Rob has a steady girlfriend, Brian has been unlucky in love. Crazy about a girl who can lift her leg straight over her head, Brian thinks he’s in love with the girl, but all she does is lead him on. Rob insists that Brian come home to Miami with him for Spring Break instead of pining away for the girl at school in Georgia. But in Miami, Rob spends most of his time with his girlfriend, leaving Jillian to entertain Brian.
Jillian and Brian hit it off immediately talking tennis. Both of them have an obsession with tennis that only other tennis nuts can understand (I’m not one, but I know a few). Both Jillian and Brian are both so deprived and horny they can’t help but have inappropriate thoughts about each other. Adding her friend Victoria to the mix, with her barely there bathing suits and very inappropriate suggestions, and poor Brian can’t help but be in a perpetual state of horniness. But so is Jillian.
When she goes into Brian’s room one morning to wake him for breakfast, she can’t help but see and admire his “gorgeous penis” (a theme that continues throughout the book, in fact Brian is complimented numerous times by several people on how beautiful his penis is. I’m not sure what makes one that beautiful, but I admit it, I kinda want to see it.) The sexual tension between the two of them while playing tennis continues to grow, and we find Jillian secretly watching Brian do other things as well.
When they break out a joint (supplied by Victoria) that was when the fun really began. I found myself hysterically laughing to the point that I woke my husband from shaking the bed (and since the book also got me going, my husband didn’t complain about the wake-up call).
“I think I’m really f’ing high, but I feel like I’m thinking so incredible clear right now.” He nodded. “I know exactly what you mean. This must be some special, new, clear-thinking blend of marijuana.”
And they come up with the “FWPB”-Friends With Partial Benefits scheme. They know that it is inappropriate for a mom to fool around with her son’s friend, so they come up with a scheme….just remember, they are stoned.
Brian was great. Super sweet, a little naive, but a gentleman despite his horny nature. The friendship/relationship and banter between Brian and Jillian was a ton of fun to read about, and despite their age difference, this couple seemed perfect for each other.
“I’m not your tennis whore, you know. I need to be wined and dined and…other things…first.” “Do you think if people heard us, with our constant pseudo-sexual-slash-tennis banter, they would want to kill us?” “Definitely. After five minutes, they would beat us to death with our own racquets,” she replied with a casual nod. “Personally, I love us,” he said a little sarcastically. “Oh so do I, we are a lot of fun.”
And they were! I think I want the souvenir t-shirt:
Likes: -Fun and silly and hot all rolled into one. -Victoria, the friend, (and namesake for the series, so I expect more) was hysterical. -Brian was super sweet, and I felt a little sorry for him, but loved him. -The fun banter between them. -I loved the interactive “click here” for tennis rules (which was still confusing as hell). -It made me want to immediately grab the next in the series. -I never felt like the male author took away from it. -The bad dates like “giant pube boy” cracked me up. -The anal attempt had me laughing so hard (haha I said hard) because it sounds EXACTLY like mine.
Dislikes: -Told from third person and a little more from the guy’s POV, so I didn’t connect 100%.
Rating: 4 stars, 4.25 heat
I am absolutely planning on reading this whole series, the book was a fun and quick read, perfect between angstier reads. Since this is called the Victoria Wilde series, I expect to see even more of the hysterical Victoria in future books, and I can’t wait. I thought she was a riot. At the end of this book she discusses becoming a sex therapist…she would probably be great at it. She offered one great piece of advice:
“That’s why I think there are so many divorces today–married couples just don’t have enough really good sex. I’m not talking about five minutes of ‘I’m-exhausted, we-have-to-get-up-in-five-hours, we-just-finished-watching-the-local-news, but-do-you-really-feel-like-doing-it?’ sex. I mean, the up-to-bed-early-on-a-weeknight, take-a-good-shower, slip-on-some-lingerie, and really-go-at-it sex. Your basic blow-job, oral-for-her, sixty-nine, regular-old-fashioned, and then-maybe-a-little-backdoor, around-the-world-sex.”
This one is just not for me. I will admit - there are some really funny parts in the beginning of this one.
I just had trouble with the mom/son's friend relationship. Which is spelled out in blurb...so I knew it was coming. I thought I could handle it - but Brian felt...just not old enough for her. When she sneaks in his room and pulls his boxers down while sleeping..that skeeved me out a little bit.
I think this has to be a total fantasy book (and again, the writing style is really funny at times) but it was too much for me.
This book was assigned to me as a challenge, and it is the first book I've read (knowingly) written by a male author. Fail. There were so many opportunities for exploring the May-December (really April-July) relationship, and the awkwardness of sleeping with your buddy's Mom, plus a randy cougar to encourage sex at all angles, but the author dropped the ball almost every time. The humor was just off, the sex was confused, and the motivations were muddled.
I was quite pleasantly surprised by this book. I found it well written, and with good characters. The plotline reminded me of the film The Graduate, but with tennis thrown in. There were bits of humour laced throughout the storyline, and even the steamier side of things were well written without being overly graphic. I know that this was the first book in the Victoria Wilde series, but I did actually find her intrusive to the overall story.
I read way too much of this compared to the fact that I really didn't like it. I don't know what this was supposed to be, but there was no emotional resonance and not really sexual tension either. I guess it was kind of trying to do both and failed miserably. Mental note: next time give up earlier...
If you have the series Friends With Benefits by Luke Young, you don't need to buy this series. It is the exact same series with a different title and different author name! I really liked the book but felt like I was cheated because because no where does it state this is a reissue!
You know a romance is written by a man when they just breeze right on past cheating multiple times with no evidence of actually working through problems
Disclaimer: I got this book for free on Kindle. I participated in stuff your kindle day where I got a bunch of romance books for free, roughly 2,000 books. I normally do not read romance books but I wanted to try the genre. I typically read fantasy, science fiction, biographies, and classics so this is way out of my comfort zone. My plan is to draw a book at random without reading the summary, title, and avoiding looking at the cover. As long as the book is not too graphic for me or leads into something uncomfortable, I will be attempting to finish as many of these books as I can in 2024. I understand that many of these books will likely not be top tier but I am hoping that I can learn something about the romance genre as a whole and figure out if any types of books in this genre are for me.
Review: I figured that I wouldn't like this book after realizing one of the main character was divorced and the other was in college. I still hoped that maybe there was something good to come out of this. Nope, I was completely wrong. They just peep on each other because they can. They have sex even though he is in a relationship with someone in college. He breaks up with his girlfriend in college because they don't have sex and he now loves the woman. OH I FORGOT TO MENTION! This woman is his best friend's mom! Terrible, no. This is an obvious violation of the bro code. Nope.

Inappropriate Thoughts (Victoria Wilde, #1) starts out really slow. The author also goes back and forth between two stories- neither really has a plot to them. I tried to get through this and read for over an hour (about 7-8 chapters), but I just could not get into it. It feels as though the author put his thoughts on paper, as the characters were not developed and, therefore, not likable.
Best friends mother after her divorce. Son comes home from college with his bast friend. Everything starts from there. A sexy read from start to finish with a great story, I would recommend this book to you
