A year ago, Flynn Cormac and Jubilee Chase made the now infamous Avon Broadcast, calling on the galaxy to witness for their planet, and protect them from destruction. Some say Flynn’s a madman, others whisper about conspiracies. Nobody knows the truth. A year before that, Tarver Merendsen and Lilac LaRoux were rescued from a terrible shipwreck—now, they live a public life in front of the cameras, and a secret life away from the world’s gaze.
Now, in the center of the universe on the planet of Corinth, all four are about to collide with two new players, who will bring the fight against LaRoux Industries to a head. Gideon Marchant is an eighteen-year-old computer hacker—a whiz kid and an urban warrior. He’ll climb, abseil and worm his way past the best security measures to pull off onsite hacks that others don’t dare touch.
Sofia Quinn has a killer smile, and by the time you’re done noticing it, she’s got you offering up your wallet, your car, and anything else she desires. She holds LaRoux Industries responsible for the mysterious death of her father and is out for revenge at any cost.
When a LaRoux Industries security breach interrupts Gideon and Sofia’s separate attempts to infiltrate their headquarters, they’re forced to work together to escape. Each of them has their own reason for wanting to take down LaRoux Industries, and neither trusts the other. But working together might be the best chance they have to expose the secrets LRI is so desperate to hide.

A great ending to a series I love! I really enjoyed following Gideon and Sophia, and of course being reacquainted with Lilac, Tarver, Flynn and Jubilee. There was so much tension and action, at times I honestly thought we were nearing the climax of the story, but would realise there was still half of the book to go!
That was a great ending to this trilogy! I loved the new characters that were introduced in this book, Sofia and Gideon. Sofia is out to kill Roderick LaRoux the jerk of the book. Gideon is one of, if not the best hacker there is. They both get thrown together and eventually find out they are basically wanting the same thing, but they both have major trust issues. It takes them until the end of the book to truly trust each other and of course they fall in love because who can stop that from happening =)
They are trying to find out where the rift is so they can destroy it before LaRoux kills more innocent people. Well, more people do get killed but the end game is good!
Toward the last half of the book, Sofia and Gideon end up with Jubilee, Flynn, Tarver and Lilac. Sofia wants nothing to do with Lilac because she is LaRoux's daughter. But Lilac is against what her father has been doing and her and Tarver have been finding ways to take out any rifts around the galaxy that her father has set up. They already accomplished it once.
The book is just awesome with so much going on and we finally get a showdown with ole LaRoux himself and the Whispers. < --- read the book. I really wanted someone to blow him into space but . . . .
This book was very exciting and had me on the edge of my seat at times. I love these characters and I'm glad I got to go on this journey with them =)
4.5 stars. I am sorry to see this story end. I love these characters! Review.. at some point ;)
PRE-READING THOUGHTS:
1. I want this so badly it hurts! There is so much love in my heart for this series and I deeply want for it to never, ever end. Well, the story will but my love for it probably never will.
Here's for hoping to love this book as much as I adored the other two!
--
2. I bet many people went to meet Amie and Meagan in person during this tour, so come on guys, what's the title of this book?! They said they'd share it with you!
We have a title and a description, and names for the new characters. Oh.. I am so in love! Give it to me, now!!!
--
3. I don't know which one is my favourite - the cover of the first book or this gorgeous one. Damn, I need this like air!!
--
4. Is it December yet?
I am madly in love with these covers! Oh, pretty books, be all mine!
Seriously Gideon and Sofia are absolutely adorable!
This is my favorite book of Kaufman and Spooner’s Starbound series and here is why...
The Story
The third and final installment of this series takes place one year after the conclusion of This Shattered World. Like with book two, this story follows a whole new cast of characters living in the same universe (hint these characters have appeared before *wink*) but this story will eventually bring us headfirst into a reunion of all the characters we love from this series.
This story follows Sofia and Gideon who will be thrown together in this epic and action packed conclusion to this amazing series. But who can they trust? Can they even trust each other?
What I liked
I want to start by gushing about how Kaufman and Spooner were able to make sciency things happen in a way that my non-sciency brain could understand. In These Broken Stars, there were a lot of questions left unanswered. A lot of things I did not understand that left a slightly bitter taste in my mouth. Don’t get me wrong. I still adored Tarver and Lilac’s story, but not nearly as much as I did the succeeding books. This story, being the conclusion of the series, was the easiest for me to understand because all my questions were answered. I did not walk away from this feeling lost or confused, and in fact, this book really made me appreciate everything that happened in the previous books a lot more.
Plus there are some pretty awesome connections between the characters that made me want to dive right back into These Broken Stars to see what I could pick up with my newly acquired knowledge!
As far as our new main characters go, Sofia and Gideon are pretty awesome. They are intricate and flawed and real. As well as smart and clever and kickass. It was really easy to fall in love with both of them as individuals. Plus I fangirled pretty hard when I remembered them from This Shattered World.
The romance was beautifully built and woven into the story without overshadowing the story as a whole. It was there but it was not the focus. All of the relationships were well written and nothing felt too rushed or dragging.
This book was emotional and action packed and how can you not fall even more in love with all the characters once they come together in this awesome conclusion to a really great series?!
In Conclusion
This is a beautifully written and wonderfully wrapped up conclusion to one of my favorite YA sci-fi series.
I'm excited that I finally finished this series, and that I really enjoyed it! I will do a full series review on my channel soon, but I will just list out what I loved and didn't love for now.
What I loved: -The relationship. I was skeptical at first, but the dynamic between these characters ended up really working for me. Gideon is a hacker and Sofia is a con-artist and both of them are thrust together when their plans of infiltrating LaRoux industries go wrong. They have major trust issues, and lie for a living, so what happens when they have to rely on each other? I really loved watching their walls come down.
-Seeing all the main characters from the previous books having such large roles in the finale. They are all present and in the same room/scenes for most of the second half of the book. You might think that the new main characters of this installment would take a back seat, but their character development did not suffer. The first half was so focused on the two of them that I felt like I really got to know them. Additionally, they both have ties to the other characters so it felt like they fit right in.
-The examination of humanity. Once again, I love how the beings in this series have dropped truth bombs about what it means to be human.
What I didn't love: -This is due to the format I read. I listened to the audiobook of this one, but had read the print version of the previous two books. While I LOVED the voice actors and they really made me fall for these characters, there was a lot of action toward the end of the book and I had to back track a couple of times to catch some things. The story definitely impacted me more in books two and three when I read the text and was able to sit with certain sections longer before moving on.
A solid ending to an action-packed, Sci-fi trilogy. This series is hard to explain, sometimes harder to understand.. But, for the sake of reviewing I will try. 😅
The Starbound series, follows the journey's of six individuals across three different books. In book one (These Broken Stars), we follow Tarver and Lilacs story. They both meet, and survive a deadly shipwreck from space, which lands them on an abandoned, mysterious planet. What Tarver and Lilac discover on that planet, or who they discover (beings, they call:The Whisperers), propels us into book two. [This was my favorite book. I loved the relationship between Tarver and Lilac. I may have cried during certain scenes 😢. Their intense journey of survival was captivating.]
Book two (This Shattered World), follows Jubilee and Flynn, on the planet of, Avon. Both, Jubilee and Flynn give us another viewpoint of the Whisperers, which are connected to our key characters. These whisperers who want to learn about humanity, have attached themselves to individuals (our main characters) to try to learn about the human race. They want to learn why they have been imprisoned by a man called Monsuier Leroux 😏. [This was my least favorite of the stories. I enjoyed the setting of Avon, but did not like how it dragged after the action-packed beginning of the book. We learn more about The Whisperers, and how they are able to create 'husks' of humans, with a mental hijacking, known on Avon as, The Fury.] Yeah, it gets more confusing.
Finally, we have book three ( Their Fractured Lights), which follows Sofia and Gideon. This story unites all six of our main characters, who are now trying to stop a rogue whisperer from destroying the planet. [ This story was okay. It had its moments. I enjoyed the romance between Gideon and Sofia; but when do I not enjoy some romance. 💚 Overall, this is a series about a man (Leroux) filled with grief over his dead wife wanting to create infinite peace. He finds this opportunity through the Whisperers who have the ability to hijack a person brain and render them immobile, essentially making people harmless. This of course is at the cost of losing thousands, or millions of lives, but Leroux does not care about this loss and only sees his vision of 'peace'. Even if it means to cruelly imprison The Whisperers, and prevent them from finally going home. The three stories follow our six main characters as they try to stop this from happening.]
Whew 😂 did that make any sense? No, well too bad, because I'm done with this series and it's time to move on. I enjoyed it, but it literally took me three months to finish this series. If you like Sci-fi, romance, and mysterious entities from the galaxy, this could be the story for you.💫
this is the last book of Starbound series and honestly, I'm still a little bit confused about this series especially about the whispers, I just can't process it all in my brain and it confused me so much... and I'm very happy that I could finish this series and I got bored reading this around chapter 30.
The Characters
Sofia Sofia is an orphan and and now all she wants is to kill him because he took everything she loved. at the beginning of the story I liked her but she got a little bit annoying at the middle of the book.
Gideon Gideon is a hacker and he wants to destroy LRI. he's really funny and he made me laugh so much, I liked him at the beggining of the story but he disappointed me because all he cared about was only how to save her (she's not Sofia.).
I was happy when all the 6 characters(Tarver, Lilac, Jubilee, Flynn, Gideon and Sofia) worked together to destroy LRI. but after I read the second and the third book, I felt Lilac was kind of annoying and seriously I didn't care whether she would be alive or not in this book, and all she did was crying and it frustrated me and she always needed Tarver to protect and comfort her all the time!! Jubilee's life and Sofia's life are harder than her life but they're not a crybaby!!! all I wanted her to do was STOP CRYING AND BE TOUGH!!! WAS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR!?!?!?
Romance
I actually liked the romace because it's slow burning love and there're no love triangle in this book or in this series but when I reached chapter 20 I got confused because they didn't even trust each other but they kept kissing and kissing. I thought this book would be great because this is the last book of Starbound series but I wronged and I'm very very disappointed with this series. The second book, This Shattered World is better than the first and the third book.
this book disappointed me so much but I didn't completely hate it because I loved the second book and at least I could enjoy this book at the beggining. it always happens to me when I read books/series about Aliens, maybe books/series with aliens aren't my cup of tea...
thanks for reading my review, guys!! have a nice day!!
Now that the Starbound trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner has reached its conclusion, I can safely say that it has earned its spot on my all-time favorite series shelf. Each book is just as epic and intricate as the last, and it's easy to fall in love with the characters - new and old - with every page. While this is a companion series that features a different couple in each book, the plot is constantly building toward a larger picture. It amazes me the amount of detail that must have gone into planning this entire series, especially now that I know how everything comes full circle in Their Fractured Light. In this final book, there are moments that had me going "aha!", there are shocking plot twists, and there are beautifully rendered themes that gave me chills.
The stakes are now, of course, higher than they've ever been. The world still doesn't know what to make of the infamous Avon broadcast made by Flynn Cormac and Jubilee Chase (This Shattered World) a year ago, calling on the galaxy to bear witness to the evil intentions behind LaRoux Industries. All eyes are on Tarver Merendsen and Lilac LaRoux (These Broken Stars), who were rescued after the mysterious and deadly crash of the Icarus, a LaRoux Industries spaceship. Now, these four characters are about to collide with two new ones - Gideon Marchant, a sarcastic and brilliant computer hacker, and Sofia Quinn, a girl who can manipulate herself out of any situation. All three of these couples have their own reasons for wanting to bring LaRoux Industries down, but, despite their differences and their secrets, can they work together toward a common goal?
The plotting in Their Fractured Light is truly mind-blowing. I was amazed at how everything came together - plot points that were brought back from previous books that I had forgotten about and connections made between characters I never would have guessed. Most of the first half of the book is spent getting to know Gideon and Sofia, but it's when the six characters are all together for the first time that had my jaw dropping and my heart racing. It's like all hell breaks loose at that point, and I was simultaneously terrified for these characters and excited to see how everything would play out. This series has a habit of keeping me on the edge of my seat! I should also mention that Lilac and Tarver have been my darling OTP from the beginning, so seeing them being all OTP-like had me grinning like a fool.
Of course, that's not to take away from Gideon and Sofia. Gideon. Now that boy is one hell of a charmer. I think I fell in love on page one (or, whatever page it is when we're first in his head). He's sarcastic, he's funny, he's irreverent, and he's that irresistible form of cocky that dumb and smart girls alike seem to flock to. Basically, I loved him. Plus, the guy is a genius, and it was great seeing his mind at work. Sofia is definitely his equal. She has her own brand of cunning and smarts, toughened by a tragic past. The romance between the two is the epitome of a slow burn. There are a lot of hurts and secrets between them, and it takes almost the entire book for them to take that leap of faith, but the journey makes the wait well worth it. Amie and Meagan are so good at writing scenes that are sexy and tender, intimate and hopeful. I wanted more more more of those between Gideon and Sofia.
The world of the Starbound trilogy has been beautifully rendered from the beginning. I think books set in space are becoming my newest addiction, and there is plenty of detail about the planets that make up Tarver, Lilac, Flynn, Jubilee, Gideon, and Sofia's world. It's a good mixture of science fiction and paranormal, survivalist and dystopia. One of my favorite parts of the books have been the chapters in between the dual narration. This time we're given the point of view of the mysterious and fearsome yet sympathetic whispers, those beings that LaRoux Industries has trapped for its own nefarious purposes. It's haunting the way they view and pinpoint humanity, deciding whether or not they are deserving of mercy. The force is strong with these ones.
So there you have it. If you haven't yet started this brilliant and amazing series, I suggest you do so immediately! It's got something for every reader, and it showcases just how talented writers Amie and Meagan are. I'm sad to say goodbye to these characters - and I'm not-so-secretly hoping for some sort of epilogue - but I also can't wait to see what this duo comes up with next!
Thanks to the publisher for sending me an early copy in exchange for my honest review!

The ending of a favourite series is always bittersweet. All the emotion from experiencing the highs and lows of the characters. Saying goodbye to them. Feeling everything they’ve been through, and have done. After all is said and done, Their Fractured Light delivered an impactful, beautiful ending, where nothing could have ended more perfectly.
As each book has introduced us to another pair of starcrossed lovers, I quickly fell in love with Gideon and Sofia. These two have a complicated relationship, with layers upon layers of secrets, yet they can’t refute their undeniable attraction to each other. While they did spend the better half of the book trying to resist their feelings to one another, they had to put so much faith in each other even though they didn’t know how much they could trust one another. Throughout the book, you’re anchoring everything on the fact that they will work things out, and the way they let their heart win over their head was just perfection. Another well paced romance, another great couple, and another important duo in the fate of the world.
While the first half of the book we get to know Sofia and Gideon, and their secret identities and their interests in LaRoux Industries, the whole cast will join together in the other half of the book. They will each have an important part to play after everything they’ve fought for, and having everyone together really brings back the feels for these couples. We still get only Sofia and Gideon’s perspective though, so I missed Jubilee and Flynn’s easy natural relationship. We don’t really get to hear from the soldier much, as she’s more of a doer rather than a thinker.
There’s so many emotions built up over the course of the book – the fear for whether everything will work out for the Tarver and Lilac, whether Gideon and Sofia will work out their differences, whether Flynn and Jubilee will get everything that they’re looking for. Although they’re each working towards the same goal, we’ve seen and felt so strongly over the course of all three books, just how much everything hangs in the balance from preventing LaRoux Industries from taking over the world. They’re split up over their method, Tarver and Gideon for the saviour of love and the rest for justice. But only through their love, and the trust of one another, with their fates intertwined, can they bind together to save the world.
Oh what a beautiful ending it was. And it had me in tears by just how perfect it was. It’s like everything that you’re holding onto throughout the series just comes rushing out in a flood of relief. You just have to place your trust in the authors, that they won’t lead you astray, that everything will work out, and somehow, lead to an ending that couldn’t have been better.
Their Fractured Light is now my favourite trilogy of all time, coming out over my most loved Legend trilogy. The sci-fi romance series is completely and utterly beautiful, with some well-rounded characters fighting for justice over the course of different planets. These Broken Stars, will give you a couple so different that will grow to love one another, in a planet filled with secrets. This Shattered World will wrought you with death and war, with starcrossed lovers from two enemy sides. Their Fractured Light will give you a couple who has lost everything, driven by secret identities, loneliness and revenge. And it will bring everyone together, tying up everyone’s destiny in a perfect way.
I can’t rave about this beautiful series enough – ITS MY FAVOURITE. Those covers are also incredible.
Thank you Allen & Unwin for sending me a copy for review.
For me, The Starbound Triology will always be about Lilac and Tarver - not because I didn't like the other characters, or because the storyline wasn't interesting, because it was.
Gideon, one of narrators of this novel, is my favorite male character of this series. Funny, smart and positive person, he brought a fresh air into the series. However, some of his decisions didn't make sense and went completely against logic or survival instinct. On the top of that, I had big problem distinguishing between individual POVs. Both Sophia's and Gideon's voices sounded the same and I always had to flip pages to the beginning of the chapters to see whose POV I was reading. I hate it when authors ruin dual POV like that.
Moreover, I read this book for two weeks and even though some chapters were okay, others were boring. Simply said, this story wasn't calling to me and I just couldn't force myself to finish it. Storytelling part of this novel failed completely and I had to DNF it 65%.
3.5 because the back and forth of the relationship was annoying, but whew. i think i wouldn't have liked this if i read but since i listened, i appreciated it a lot more. i love the voice actor for gideon SO MUCH. both of them, actually, were so amazing and so in tune with their characters. and also i love gideon because he's the sarcastic boy of my heart, bless him. --- Expected publication: December 1st 2015 by Disney-Hyperion
(in case you guys wanted a larger resolution of this: here you go!)
So even though this was technically a reread, it's been quite a long while since I've been so passionate and absorbed into a book series and I just really needed that right now.I
I also remember this'll being good, but like it's even better than that.
I don't know why l kept putting away this book. Well, l think l know, but still. My presuming is that l just didn't want to finish this series. One of my favorites series so far. I remember how hooked the first two volumes kept me, and with this one was the same. I wasn't disappointed at all! So maybe you ask yourself why l gave it 4 stars. Well, l did it because even though l loved the writing style, l loved the romance in it, l loved that this book didn't let me get bored, it didn't have that sparkle. It didn't have that "firework program", as l like to say it. It didn't surprise me as much as l would've expected. But hey, 4 stars are 4 stars. Highly recommend it! Oh, and also, have a question. Why this series needed to be over?! Why?... I mean, all these three books were amazing, l had a very good time with them. If Amie and Meagan at one point, due to some holy miracle, will decide to continue writing on this series, they will sure make their readers very happy, including me. Again, this is by far one of my favorite series, and really want to reread it at some point, thing that it's saying a lot about it because l don't usually reread books. With all this said, wish that more and more readers will give it a try and will enjoy it as much as l did!
I’m not even sure how I can review this book… as the last in the series, it’s tricky because I don’t want to give anything away as to what happens in previous books if you haven’t read (WHY HAVEN’T YOU READ??)
I’m going to say this… The story wraps up absolutely perfectly in a way that I couldn’t have even predicted. I was on the edge of my seat turning pages as the story progressed and I couldn’t help the cheesy smile that was on my face as I got to that last page.
I’m going to try to focus solely on this book as I talk a bit below, but be warned I may give snippets away to the other books as I go along.
I have to say that this is probably my favorite book character wise. I mean, I thought I looooooved Tarver, but Gideon… *sigh*. Both Gideon and Sofia were amazing for me. I loved their character and story arcs and their relationship arc was just perfection. They both have their reasons for hating the LaRoux family, but neither are spilling. But then you get to see these two people who basically have no one at this point in their lives, who have pretty much given up on having anything resembling a family, connect and finally find that person that understands them and give in to the desire to finally trust one person in this crazy world… it was beautiful.
I loved that everyone came together in this final installment... and can I mention the way everyone ended up being connected to each other because I loved the way these six were basically tied together. The arc of this last part of the story is where everything comes to a head. The rifts that we’ve come to realize are the sources of the whispers ultimate and the destruction that they are causing are now in Corinth and things happen you guys! Major things happen … none of which I’m going to mention and talk about. #sorrynotsorry
Kaufman and Spooner have created an amazing trilogy here… the story, the characters, the world-building all culminate in an amazing series ender that you seriously can’t and shouldn’t miss.
I’m sorry… that’s really all I can say at this point without spoiling anyone. Fans of sci-fi and epic love stories that span the universe definitely need to have this series on their radar if it’s not already.
Special thank you to the publisher for a review copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
I didn't like Sofia and Gideon as much as Lilac & Tarver (MY ABSOLUTE FAVES) or Lee & Flynn (SO CUTEEEEEEE) But they were still really nice characters. Especially Gideon, he was great.
However, the first half of the book I was just waiting for my faves to come back, and I wasn't learning anything new that linked back to the first books, which I found a little dull.
But while I would give the first half only 4 stars, the second half definitely deserves 6, so that balances out to be a full five stars :)
I was really happy with the conclusion of the series. They all had such beautiful covers, and the books completely deserved them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Their Fractured Light is the third installment in co-authors: Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner's young-adult fantasy trilogy titled Starbound. This trilogy has been an engaging ride so far and Their Fractured Light offered a near perfect ending. To date, each installment in this trilogy has featured a different male and female lead, with all six characters uniting for a common purpose during the latter part of this final book. And when they all come together? ...OMG it was action packed and filled with page-turning suspense. I have thoroughly enjoyed this world that the authors have created along with the characters. I'm going to miss it, but I have no doubt that this trilogy's success will prompt more novellas very, very soon so...
until next time Starbound!!!
My favorite quote: "...even in silence and darkness, there is always a spark."
A pretty solid conclusion to a heartfelt trilogy. I was the person who fell in love with These Broken Stars (4.5 stars) and was devastated when I found out the series was going to be a companion collection, each featuring different characters. However, I can say that while I think there is still part of me that wishes the story had stayed with Tarver and Lilac the entire time, I am happy we met Flynn and Jubilee and Gideon and Sofia.
Their Fractured Light started a little rocky for me but ended up finishing strong. I wasn't a fan of the instalove, BUT I still stand behind the romance and love the main characters. But what really sold me on this book is at about the halfway point, all three stories start to really meld together and that's what I was waiting for -- so overall, a great read and if you haven't read this series and you are looking for a YA science fiction series, I would definitely recommend! :)
I don't have words to explain how absolutely stunning this was.
I loved seeing all six characters together and then learning how their stories were intertwined. There were laughs and swoons and action and tension and some serious fucking heartbreak and every page was amazing.
Anyone writing a trilogy should look to this series for how it's done properly.
SERIOUSLY this is the kind of series I love. It's not at all what I expected and I love being surprised by books. This series is made out to be a series of love stories (in space wooh) but it is honestly so much more than that which makes it super amazing. Yes, these are love stories. They are also about hope and forgiveness and courage in the face of war, plus friendship and the power of determination and all these things that just make me love it more. On top of that, they are beautifully written.
A lot of the time I find constantly shifting perspectives to be really annoying because it interrupts the narrative too frequently but I really enjoyed it in this book. What made it great was that Gideon and Sofia had unique and independent voices in their perspective chapters. They could be separated but the story still flowed really well. I loved them both as characters and, although it frustrated me how often the argued and doubted their choices, they were really enjoyable to read about. They both had really vivid and interesting back stories that motivated their actions in this book. I loved how their stories tied in to the other books and the other characters from earlier in the series.
The overarching villain was actually really great. He wasn't some shitty villain they had thrown in to make it interesting and I really enjoyed that he had once been a good guy and kind of slowly become the villain. It was clever. I also really enjoyed a lot of the supernatural elements of the story; the whispers were so intriguing and the passages with them were so beautifully written!
Like seriously my enthusiasm for this series is off the charts... I love it. I'm kind of sad that it's over and also a little disappointed with the ending of this book because it was very sudden. All the plots were rounded up so nicely. I honestly just love this book and this series because it did something which happens very rarely in that it surprised me and that is one of the best compliments I can give it. I'm not sure that it is for everyone but I already can't wait to reread it.
11/12/15 - 4.5 stars Authors amaze me. I'm always freshly awoken my the beautiful amazement that I have for a incredible series I finish. All of these emotions and thoughts that are skittering through my head all of the finally coming together at last... it make me happy. That's what amazes me, how authors can provoke such feelings upon me. One day I'll learn their secrets. But until then I'll keep doing the one thing I know best: reading.
I loved Gideon! More then Sofia, Sofia I had so struggles with her character would just.. bug me sometimes! I felt like them both had WAY to many trust issues and I know that was the main part of the book but I felt like it was takin' a bit to far. I wish that the authors would have changed their lost ones up a bit (sense they kept on mentioning it!! ok we get your all in pain let's move on now folks!) all of them lost family members except Traver. There are lots more different looses then that. Half way through the book, loving every page and then boom it just stopped being interesting. I was scanning over the pagesIslowly making my way through this. So much unneeded information and at the same time so much information left out! It felt like they were picking the wrong things for us to understand better... oh crap just looked at the clock XD goodnight sweets!
8/16/15 I can't handle myself her covers are just the must beautiful things!!! So excited for her books!
Surprisingly, the instalment I expected the least from for some reason, became my ultimate favourite from the trilogy! This book made me feel the most from the series, though my number 1 favourite ship is still Lilac and Tarver, followed by Sofia and Gideon. I loved the setting, the storyline, the two new characters - hacker and a con artist, and how the story from the whole series - and all its characters - came perfectly together in this last book!
I've quite enjoyed this trilogy – it delivers the perfect mix of dystopia, sci-fi, action and romance. After all the turmoil the characters have gone through in the first two books, all we want is their happy ever after in this thrilling conclusion to the series.
While this book started out strongly, it lost me somewhere around the middle. It wasn’t that this book was bad (it wasn’t at all!) I just wasn’t as interested as I was in the previous two books.
Let’s start at the beginning. Our characters in this book are Sofia and Gideon. Sofia is on the run ever since the death of her father and she’s become an expert at reading people and knows exactly what to say to make things go her way. We met her briefly in the second book when Flynn sought refuge with her. Gideon is an expert hacker; put him in front of a computer and there’s nothing he can’t do. He’s still reeling from his brother’s death and feels his ghost with him wherever he goes. He was also mentioned in the second book.
In this book, Sofia and Gideon meet by chance and realise they have the same goal – defeat LaRoux Industries once and for all, so they decide to team up and use their individual skills to get close to the enemy. As they spend more time together, they find themselves attracted to the other. However, as they’ve both been on the run and constantly used aliases and lies so as not to be discovered, both characters have to learn to be more trusting and real with the other.
I remember being super excited to read this from Sofia’s POV as I really enjoyed her in This Shattered World, but she quickly became quite repetitive with her trust issues. It wasn’t that I didn’t like her, but I just liked Lilac and Lee more. I did like Gideon, the fact that he was a programmer was really interesting and I just found him to be a great character.
We meet up with the main characters from the previous books about halfway through – Lilac and Tarver and Flynn and Lee. It was great seeing them again, especially Lilac and Tarver as those two have a special place in my heart. While it seemed a little TOO coincidental that all six knew each other in some way, I also don’t always believe in coincidences and believe that fate had a little hand in helping these six get together. Its better they have a history than six strangers being forced to work together – that’s even less believable!
The ending had quite a few twists and turns I wasn’t expecting with a lot of action scenes thrown in too. I found the “whispers” to be remarkable and would love to read more about them. All in all, this series is… for lack of a better word, enjoyable. These Broken Stars will still be my favourite of the series, but I can’t deny that this series is still good to read with a wonderfully developed world. If I'm completely honest, I probably won’t look back and remember these characters, or want to re-read this series any time soon. But if you’ve read the first two books, or is into sci-fi, dystopian, futuristic-y worlds, then give it a shot.
