Across The Broken Line is a short story by the highly acclaimed crime thriller writer, Zoë Sharp. Never before published, it features her ex-Special Forces soldier turned self-defence expert and bodyguard, Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Fox.
In Across The Broken Line, we follow Charlie through a fragmented timescale of cross and double-cross as she fights to keep her principal alive – whoever that might be.
Zoë Sharp spent most of her formative years living aboard a catamaran on the northwest coast of England. She opted out of mainstream education at the age of twelve and wrote her first novel at fifteen. She became a freelance photojournalist in 1988 and started writing her Charlie Fox crime thriller series after receiving death-threats in the course of her work.
This one was put a side by the author originally, didn't make it as the final story in the Fox Five Charlie Fox e-thology release and perhaps it should have remained unreleased. Since it's not that great, doesn't add to the mystique of Charlie Fox, easy to realize what's going on and just gobsmacked that this one was really released. Will make me rethink purchasing more from this author that I don't have.
If you're one of those creatures who's known to like Reacher try someone who rocks the name's Charlie Fox this is a taster, not a time waster though there’s also a series up to #9
If (like me) you're waiting for Charlie #10, and wanting a Fox 'fix' this short does the trick - a clever mix.... deft prose tight plot Fooled my brain instead of 'figured it out'
Needed to go back and reread some again just as sound second, and third time round The ending? Unexpected, & somewhat mind-bending
Really enjoyed the amusing remarks and story quirk Sharp knows the score, and doesn't shirk Great stuff Zoë! it's neat For me, an early Christmas treat which leaves me wanting more...
It's a good story. I recommend reading it after Fifth Victim though because it reminds me of a little version written as preparation for 1 of the characters.
Fractured timeline is interesting but I wouldn't want to read it in a full length book.
Charlie's instincts are again shown to be very sound, even compared with more experienced people.
A great short. Working on a timeline, fracturing back and forth. Fox fans will love it. Have to say, surprisingly for Zoe's previous work I saw this one real early but it was a good read regardless. Yet another fix for the Fox deprived :)
