Tessa Gray has found friends among the Shadowhunters, supernatural protectors of mankind who possess angelic blood. But Tessa's new life is threatened when some members of the Clave challenge Charlotte's leadership and pressure her to resign as head of the London Institute. If Charlotte is forced out, Tessa will be forced to leave as well due to her warlock blood, making her easy prey for the still-at-large Magister. As Tessa and her handsome Shadowhunter escorts, Will and Jem, journey far and wide to unravel the Magister's secrets, they quickly learn that they have no secrets from the vengeful Magister...and nowhere is safe...
Cassandra Clare was born to American parents in Tehran, Iran and spent much of her childhood travelling the world with her family, including one trek through the Himalayas as a toddler where she spent a month living in her father’s backpack. She lived in France, England and Switzerland before she was ten years old.
Since her family moved around so much she found familiarity in books and went everywhere with a book under her arm. She spent her high school years in Los Angeles where she used to write stories to amuse her classmates, including an epic novel called “The Beautiful Cassandra” based on a Jane Austen short story of the same name (and which later inspired her current pen name).
After college, Cassie lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines and even some rather suspect tabloids where she reported on Brad and Angelina’s world travels and Britney Spears’ wardrobe malfunctions. She started working on her YA novel, City of Bones, in 2004, inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, her favourite city. She turned to writing fantasy fiction full time in 2006 and hopes never to have to write about Paris Hilton again. Cassie’s first professional writing sale was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord” in a Baen anthology of humor fantasy. Cassie hates working at home alone because she always gets distracted by reality TV shows and the antics of her cats, so she usually sets out to write in local coffee shops and restaurants. She likes to work in the company of her friends, who see that she sticks to her deadlines.
City of Bones was her first novel. Sword Catcher is her most recent novel.
I will never not give anything The Infernal Devices related anything less than 5 stars!
"Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: For love is strong as death; Jealousy is cruel as the grave."
1. ALL of the swooning for my love Will Herondale. 2. All of the feels 3. Will. 4. More Will. 5. Magnus. 6. Magnus kissing Will. 7. Henry trying to save Charlotte 8. Demon Pox
WILL HERONDALE
My heart isn't ready for Clockwork Princess, I will be getting my tissues at the ready!
"I had always thought one could not be truly lost if one knew one's own heart. But I fear I may be lost without knowing yours."
It seems like these graphic novels really focus on the political conflicts rather than the characters and relationships, which is sorta upsetting because I really, really loved Jem in this book and that aspect of it got a bit lost with this translation. Nevertheless, the art in here is so stunning and this trilogy is so well-done that I had to give it the credit it deserves, just as a well-concocted storyline.
Jem and Will and Tessa ALL deserve each other and I will never hear any arguments on this. 😭 What I wouldn't give for Cassie to rewrite this series with the on-page polyamory we deserved!
Also, this adaptation was lovely, and I'm so happy I finally got the opportunity to continue this trilogy. My heart probably isn't ready to re-live the agony of Clockwork Princess, but we're going to find out!
✨ Representation: Jem is Asian and terminally ill; Magnus Bane is bisexual
Of course, I had to rate this book 5 stars, I knew I would love it. I have already read the Infernal Devices and it was such a beautiful series. When I found out that there was manga for these books, I HAD to read it. I already read the manga for Clockwork Angel, so I started to read Clockwork Prince. And they did an awesome job with this book and the art was so beautiful.
“Wo bu xiang shi qu ni.”
If you haven't heard of this series, it is about a sixteen year old girl named Tessa. While wandering around in London, Tessa is kidnapped. She doesn't know why or who these people are but all she knows is that they need something from her. They want her to do something and she is really important and she doesn't know why. While she is locked up, a bunch of Shadowhunters come to her rescue. Her whole life changes and she thinks that she doesn't know herself anymore. This whole adventure helps Tessa find out more about herself and jumps into a different world.
THE FEELS IS CRAZY WHEN YOU READ THIS BOOK
It was like I was reading a shorter version of the actual books. This manga did a really good job of summarizing the evens and timing everything perfectly. The drawings had so much detail and I couldn't help but look so closely and study every page. I loved this reading experience and it was just so much fun. I am so glad that I got an opportunity to read this.
“Blue does not go with everything," Will told her. "It does not go with red, for instance."
I loved all the characters from this book and the expressions were so realistic. I love Will, he is awesome, and Tessa is great. Jem is super nice and I like him too and it was nice to see all these characters while reading. Henry and Charlotte are the best and MAGNUS IS AWESOME!
I finished this book so fast, and right away, I wanted the next book.
I highly recommend this if you have already read the actual books in the Infernal Devices. I suggest you read the Infernal Devices before starting off on the manga, but it is just a suggestion. It was awesome and fast-paced and I really enjoyed it. :)
Can I just first rant again about the fact that there are Manga editions of my favorite books? I LOVE THIS SO SO MUCH! Reading these Manga editions of The Infernal Devices has been SUCH A JOY so far! They're nothing short of being amazing.
The artist remains so loyal to the original books and I couldn't be happier about that! And I am just so insanely in love with this artist's artwork, so in love. The world Clare created... It's so awesome to see it being presented in drawings, and in such beautiful detail as well. Seriously; the details used in every drawing of the characters but the settings and backdrops as well, are just so beautifully done.
Overall, the development, especially the characters developments but the plot a bit as well, isn't AS good as the original book, but that's to be expected given the number of pages used in Manga books and the fact that there are just A LOT of words missing, lol - But I still think that in the end, the artist did a really great (amazing even) job with adding all of the Most important stuff inside the book and still offered us a great insight into these characters feelings. I'm greedy, so I'd always want there to be more pages when I love reading a book so much.
I am not all that familiar with manga books, so I can't say how this one is in comparison to other manga's. But what I can say is that this manga set of the Infernal Devices is a MUST-HAVE to any Cassandra Clare fan out there but I'd think it'd be a great read to Manga-readers in general as well! This one made me feel ALL THE FEELS and I don't know if I'm ready to read book three, knowing what'll happen and that I'll be reading it by seeing it in 'pictures'. I'm definitely going to need some tissues..
Conclusion; It's such a great addition to the already existing books and I think everyone needs a set of these manga editions in their Clare collection. It's just so wonderful to read the story of these favorite characters by seeing this awesome artwork and the awesome quote lines that are being used. GO GRAB YOURSELF A COPY, you won't regret it!
I try to express only my most honest opinion in a spoiler-free way. Unfortunately, there is still always a risk of slight spoilers despite my best efforts. If you feel something in my review is a spoiler please let me know. Thank you.
The second book done. Devoured this in a day. I feel the same after this book as I did after the original book. I shipped Jem and Tessa so hard. Although I honestly don't feel Tessa deserves Jem. He deserved someone that would have wanted only him. That's just my opinion though.
A freaking gem! The art beautiful, the scenes are so on point. The shadowhunter world is as impressive as always. The relationships starting to blossom are goals. The characters are so fond to my heart. And the love between Jem and Tessa and Will kills me and brings me back to life time after time.
Ahhhhhhh, this volume is so satisfying. We learn a lot more of Will's backstory which may actually surprise you, we learn about demon pox and who is carrying it, we see Charlotte and Henry Branwell fighting to remain as leaders of the institute and we learn the following:
Jem asks Tessa to marry him (and she accepts) - I bloody love Jem! Jessamine and Nate (Tessa's brother) are secretly married! Will isn't actually cursed as he previously thought and so is free to let those who love him close (we learn he loves Tessa so there's a triangle situation going on here and we ALL know what's going to happen in the third installment)
This issue is more political and focuses on the workings of the Clave and the various alliances between Shadowhunters and Downworlders and Lycanthropes. The illustrations continue to amaze me and are as beautiful as ever.
And Jem continues to be ridiculously dreamy!
I mean, do you need any more reasons to read this?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Eh, it was a pretty good graphic novel adaptation but I was SO SO PISSED THAT THEY DIDN'T PUT WILL'S DEMON POX SONG. OR THE WE LIVE AND BREATHE WORDS QUOTE.
Jem Castairs is one of my favorites shadowhunters and reading and remembering his relationships with Tessa and Will makes me happy, this is definitely a great alternative if you want to read the infernal devices really fast.
Not sure if this volume just ended up working better as a manga, or if I've begun to warm to this series in a visual format, but I really enjoyed this volume!
This is immensely better of an adaptation of the novel than Clockwork Angel manga, albeit I had to ignore how it portrayed Magnus and Henry -.-. I felt all the feels, cried about it just as I had reading the book, so I’d say it translates pretty well! With maybe a few more chapters, this could be further detailed (I would’ve appreciated chibi Will doing the duck dance). I still wouldn’t recommend reading the manga alone without having read the books. The novels definitely have a lot more descriptions and scenes that were cut that add so much to the story that we miss out in the manga, but it's still a great way to delve back into the world.
I really enjoyed this second installment! It was better than the first in my opinion and had some great humour. I felt the personalities of the characters came over better in this book. I loved it and look forward to the final installment!
