Inspired by the tale of Rapunzel, USA Today bestselling author Lila DiPasqua, offers a new steamy, emotionally charged historical romance in the acclaimed Fiery Tales Series . . . Rescuing this beauty from the 'tower' is only the beginning . . .
Maintaining her ruse as a commoner, and trusting no one has kept Angelica safe. But a chance encounter with a handsome stranger lands her right where danger lies. Now, this sinfully handsome man with arresting blue eyes and a polished manner thinks he’s saved her life, when in fact he’s placed her in great peril. She’s intent on keeping him and everyone else at arm’s length. Yet, the smoldering attraction between them is difficult to deny. And impossible to ignore . . .
As commander of a number of privateer ships, Simon Boulenger dresses and speaks like an aristocrat, and has obtained wealth. But he is still not a noble. Or an officer in the King’s Navy. His lifelong dream to elevate himself from his station of birth and attain a respectable place in society is dead. Worse, he’s ensnared in a deadly scheme, and must get out. But how is he to stay focused on his dangerous mission when the mysterious beauty has him utterly intrigued? He can’t afford the distraction any more than he can resist the carnal hunger she stirs. Simon soon discovers that she’s not only a passionate soul mate, but a woman born into privilege. A woman he can never have. But they’re in too deep. Their hearts are at risk . . . as well as their lives.

This was ok, I don't know...I got bored, even the spicy scenes were so loooong..I skimmed some pages because they were talking too much 👀
The heroine didn't trust the hero with the truth about her past and sadness, the hero has inferiority issues because he's just a "beggar born" (he's loaded and even has a island now..).
At the end the heroine made some crazy choices, I get that she needed protection but still...🙄 fortunately someone dies so we have a HEA.
OMG! I have no words. I just finished this and Lila DiPasqua has done it to me again. I was up reading this to the early morning hours and I was finally able to get back to it and I BALLED, I mean, she had me crying at a certain part of the book that totally knocked me back with surprise. I saw her mention that this is her most emotionally charged book, and man she wasn't kidding. THIS BOOK IS SO FREAKIN GOOD!!!
This is a touching, romantic, seriously HOT, book inspired by Rapunzel, about a privateer, Simon Boulenger, (he is so deliciously alpha!!) who is on a mission to get out of this web of intrigue he's caught up in, and a woman who is guarding some serious secrets. I don't want to give anything away but I will say watching these two fall in love was wonderful, and the attraction between them literally sizzles up the pages. (Talk about sexual tension---whoa!). The character growth in this book is like none I've ever seen. Seeing how Angelica's character blossoms as she learns to trust Simon and becomes the woman she is at the end was just so amazing. I loved both these characters!! Simon is pretty typical of Lila DiPasqua's heroes--sexy as hell, a naughty loveable badboy. A true rake. He's great (not to mention seriously talented in the bedroom). UNDONE will make you laugh, cry, sweat from the sexual heat between these two characters--and those love scenes---Oh. My. God. Highly recommended. A keeper for me, for sure! (Book will be out the week of April 9th. ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review).
As with all the Lila DiPasqua books I have read, UNDONE is filled with compelling characters, sizzling love scenes, suspense and a passionate romance.
Simon is the sort of tormented hero I love. He is full of self-condemnation having realised that, in blindly pursuing his own driving ambitions to rise above his lowly origins, he had closed his eyes to what was happening to his own people…. ‘the destruction and devastation’. His life is a mess and he feels tainted by his association with the corrupt Superintendent of Finances, Fouquet.
Everything he’d done for his country and king, everything he’d worked for was now tainted. In blood.
Simon is an honourable man, willing to sacrifice his dream in order to save his men and bring Fouquet to account for his actions. His compassion shows in his condemnation of slavery and the way he has provided a home and work for so many desperate people.
He’d brought many families to Marguerite, at first only the crewmen’s families, then later, anyone who was in dire straits. He gave them employ in the fields. He gave us an opportunity to survive rather than to die in France.”
He is also just and fair when judging complaints brought before him. I love how cleverly he resolves the charge brought against Angelica by Père Crotteau.
Anglica is gentle and compassionate but also strong and courageous. It is that inner strength that enabled her to escape her loathsome step-father’s clutches ten years ago and find sanctuary within the walls of a convent.
She still bears deep emotional scars and a belief that no man could ever want someone like her. She has never been able to share her dark, shameful secret with anyone, even her close friend, Gabrielle. I love how Angelica demonstrates not only her compassion but also her bravery when she confronts the schoolmaster she sees brutally beating a young boy.
Instinctively, she swung around and struck him with an open palm across his face. “Don’t touch me! I am not one of these helpless children you enjoy mistreating.”
The sexual tension between these two is definitely explosive. Angelica finds Simon exciting and his mere touch stirs her senses while Simon is drawn to Angelica’s beauty, decency and bravery but their journey to a happy ever after is strewn with obstacles, not least their own closely guarded secrets. It was rewarding to watch Simon gradually demolish the walls Angelica has built around herself with his compassion, acceptance and understanding, inspiring her to take risks and find happiness and how Angelica makes Simon see the noble man he truly is.
“…you have sought to gain nobility, but you are noble. You don’t want to be ordinary, but you never have been. You wish to be exalted, but in the eyes of so many, you are.”
Be warned! The love scenes are very graphic and the language explicit and, if I have one complaint, it’s that they seem rather repetitive in content.
I really like Robert d’Arles, the nobleman who saved Simon from the streets and has always treated him like a son. He is an honourable man, willing to offer Angelica the protection of his name. I couldn’t help but feel heart-broken for Simon and Angelica when circumstances conspire to keep them apart but neither of them is willing to betray Robert. His words to Simon really touched my heart.
“You were my only family…You have made me proud…Raising you into the man you are today has given me a sense of purpose and fulfilment in my life…Simon…there is no limit to what a man can achieve except the limits he places on himself…”
Fouquet is a formidable enemy but his downfall rests with his sheer arrogance in underestimating the young King Louis.
Although I love the Regency era, the setting of 17th century France was refreshingly different. Ms DiPasqua brings to life all decadence and political intrigue of the Royal court and the inclusion of real-life figures like Fouquet and Louis XIV adds an extra level of authenticity to the story.
The Epilogue gathers everyone together on Marguerite island for a charming Happy Ever After.
My Verdict: If you enjoy a compelling story, fascinating characters and a lushly erotic romance, then I can definitely recommend UNDONE.

Loved this book. A beautiful erotic historical romance. This was my favorite part and had me LOL
“Do you really wish to become one of the ‘undesirables’?” he demanded. “Are you eager to bear children—sired by a man of common birth—that nobles would consider as revolting as a rodent? Do you want to always be at the mercy of your ‘betters’ and have them treat you and your children as less than human each time you’re in their presence? That’s the life of a commoner! That is what I, my mother, and everyone in our village endured. Do you want to marry me and have half the Aristos look at you with pity while the rest regard you with disgust?”
She crossed her arms. “Was that a marriage proposal?”
“What? No!”
“Good, because it wasn’t a very good one, the way you were carrying on about rodents and disgust.”
A great setting, loveable characters who went through a lot, & steamy tension make a great book. I was rather bored at some point but by I couldn't stop reading. I love heroes who realise they have made a big mistake & then do everything to get the heroine back.
However some things didn't make sense...his obsession with 'just being a commoner' while he was loaded (he owns an entire island??) + one character that was developed at the end of the book turns out to be the solution for everything.
Still, this gets a good 4 stars rating because of the ending scenes that were so beautiful. I loved reading about Simon & how much he is devoted to Angelica.
I am so loving this story line!! I'm on page 181 and Simon and Angelica and their sexually flammable attraction is on!!!!!! This is a wonderful, sensual and suspense filled romance. I loved it so very much! Full review to come. I just purchased though Kindle Amazon ebooks Lila DiPasqua’s next two books. I’m so in love with this suspenseful storyline with romance and steamy love scenes 🔥❤️ Angelica and Simon meet through unusual circumstances. As she and her friend are taken to a ship Simon’s intentions are to seduce her. But, Angelica has secrets and a traumatic past and she is in hiding. As Simon and her spend so much time together they get to know a little about each other. He has his a request from his king and he needs to expose an evil nobleman. This is such a beautiful, wonderful story! I loved it, the interesting characters, the attention to details and the steamy romance between the heroine and her alpha male hero.
I really enjoyed Undone. The characters felt raw and real to me. Our hero, Simon was born into poverty. Left orphaned at nine and alone to starve, he got a second chance when a man in the King's navy took him under his wing and raised him. He's grown up on warships, desperate to make something of himself. Desperate to become more than the lowly commoner he was born as. He doesn't want to be vulnerable to the upper class ever again.
He has been serving his country as a privateer. But what he really wants is to be recognized for his naval successes by the King, become ennobled and an officer in the King's Navy. Unfortunately, there are powerful people standing in his way. As the book begins, he sees that there's a big price to pay for chasing after one's ambitions.
I really liked Simon. He's a tortured hero (my favorite kind!) Aside from the fact that he is a drop dead sexy hero, I liked his vulnerable side. He was vulnerable to the heroine, Angelica. He was vulnerable in the intrigue around him and the circumstances he was in. Yet, he was strong and commanding--and alpha. (Lots of hot scenes in this book--also my favorite!) Best of all, he was honorable. He does everything he can to try to insulate himself. His heart. His life. An though he has to walk away from his dream of becoming more than a privateer, he struggles between still wanting the dream, and wanting to do the right thing. And that felt very real to me. This man is in a tight spot, and there are many people who's lives depend on him.
Angelica is a wonderful heroine. She's been hiding in a convent far away for ten years. She's pushed the past away, thinking she can forget about it, but destiny has a way of forcing you to face your skeletons.
It's because of her that Simon learns to see himself in a different light. It's because of him, Angelica takes a real chance at life. This was an emotional romance and i found myself getting a lump in my throat a couple of times.
My favorite part was the scene in the schoolhouse. It had me smiling. I can't put here what Simon says to Angelica, because it would give stuff away, but if ever there was a great hero moment, that was it! I found it very moving. I was even moved by the dedication the author puts at the back of the book because it contains a spoiler. I intend to reread this book again. Recommended.
Well, I devoured this book within days of its release and I see I never wrote a review for it! So, this won't be overly long as, unfortunately, the story is not as fresh as when I should have written this review (and that just makes me anxious to reread it soon!). I knew what to expect from this romance--a hot, sexy retelling of the fairy tale Rapunzel but the way it was wove together was pure magic. I really liked the fact that the heroine didn't have a hair the length of a tower--because really, how was that going to work? :) But our heroine, Angelica, has grown up basically in seclusion in order to hide from her evil stepfather and is rescued by our handsome hero, Simon. Angelica really did not want to be rescued and has to tell Simon the truth of her life and as she does, it becomes clear that the man Simon is hoping to uncover as a liar and a thief is also the man that most wants to harm Angelica. Will Simon, a commoner, be able to prove to himself and Angelica that he is good enough for a noble lady or will he just let it all go?
Sigh. I really adored this book. I absolutely love retellings of fairy tales and I know I can count on Lila DiPasqua to deliver a winner with plenty of heat! Simon and Angelique really know how to burn the fire! Have something cool to drink handy :) Angelique is strong and will do whatever she can to protect those around her and Simon has had to overcome a brutal childhood and it has molded him into the strong and commanding man is is today. When the past is revealed to the full extent, have some tissues handy as you are sure to tear up! If you like your historicals burning but filled with angst, love, passion and a bit of humor, please, grab Undone today and settle in for a treat! I know I look forward to more from this auto-buy author! 4 1/2 stars
I can see why some people may have thought that this book was amazing - it does offer drama and suspense. However, the characters, their reasoning for their actions and plot twists seemed so contrived. It seemed like DiPasqua just wanted to stick in all the ideas she had into this book to make it more exciting, but in the end it just felt too forced.
The characters are also so painstakingly stubborn, refusing to listen/tell anything to each other anything - it takes almost half the book for Simon to seduce the secrets out of the heroine, Angelica. It just wore down my patience reading scene after scene of her refusing to answer questions.
Simon: "What malicious force could bring about such a cruel twist of fate?" Me: Uhh...you guys brought it upon yourselves?
It was tolerable for the first half but nearing 3/4 of the way through the plot twists just got ridiculous And then after stretching out the drama for the entire novel, the ending is all wrapped up in a neat little bow within 20 pages.
I think DiPasqua really needed to edit and adjust some things in order for it to be a truly great read - it had lots of potential.
I give it 2.5 stars - I liked half of it but hated the other half.
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I couldn't put this book down!!! Their interaction and chemistry between the hero and heroine were so good. When Angelica reveals her secrets to Simon, oh let the emotional floodgates open! I teared up on more than one occasion in this book. And the ending had me sighing happily. Undone had the perfect fairy tale feel. Don't expect a woman with freakish long hair in this Rapunzel inspired romance. Do expect a wonderful heroine who has locked herself away from the world. A sexy hero who brings out the best in her and who becomes a better man because of her. Expect a beautiful, touching romance, with hints of Rapunzel weaved throughout.
Warning: this book, like the rest of Lila DiPasqua's books, is hot. If you like a healthy dose of steam in your love scenes, then this book will delight you.
Oh, and if you read and loved A Midnight Dance, (like I did) expect to see Jules and Sabine again! I really liked that. I can't wait for Luc's story in Three Reckless Wishes.
I Couldn't put this book down if my life depended on it ;);)
Can't wait for more Mademoiselle LILA!!! FAVOURITE QUOTEs:
Grasping her arms, he whirled her around, pressed her against the door he didn't even remember closing, and crushed his mouth to hers. His kiss was demanding, heated, anguished, and desperate. He tasted tears and wasn't at all certain they were hers alone.
Wow! I think this is the best book in the series—so far! I got really sucked into the story from the very first page. Adore the characters, the story line, everything! At one point I teared up a bit!
"Undone" is book #4 in the Fiery Tales series, but can be read as a stand-alone novel.
How are the sex scenes? DiPasqua adds more depth to their relationship by showing the intimate moments and mentioning others that happened behind closed doors. And the steamy scenes we do see definitely push the story. How are the story lines? Really loved those. The hero has a plan, the heroine has a plan, the hero interferes with said plans and all romance breaks loose. Review
"Undone" by Lila DiPasqua is a full length historical romance novel set in France and the Republic of Genoa in 1660. "It is a convent, sir."
Never would hero Simon Boulenger guess those words would inspire lust, yet after heroine Angelica straddled him while dressed in a habit he reconsidered.
Wait, what? The promiscuous hero is seduced in an instant by a nun?
LOVE it!
Detailing the plot, for this novel, is a spoiler. From the beginning DiPasqua layers meanings and readies readers for one of many reveals.
Angelica is wonderful. She doesn't take the 'easy' way out nor does she ask for help, because she can trust no one. Her secret is that dire.
Simon is the classic playboy pirate who wants the new shiny toy and refuses to stop pestering until he gets it. He's not always this childish with women, don't worry. His upbringing is tragic and the man he is today reflects a person wanting to save the world.
Simon often has an inner dialogue about how "he'd never done a rash thing in his entire life." Odd for him to think this, because when readers meet Simon he's in a precarious position and I can't imagine he planned that.
Angelica and Simon's physical attraction is intense. Simon sports a hard-on 90% of the book because Angelica is near.
"Undone" is a bit choppy in the beginning, with shorter sentences that are to the point - like what you'd expect at the end of a story or during an action scene. But man can she write descriptions:
"Raw lust licked up his spine."
"She placed her hand over her agitated heart, willing it to calm."
"Every inch of her quaked."
The start of the black moment is GENIUS. For the third time in "Undone," DiPasqua creates a conflict that no one can remedy. (And DiPasqua doesn't stop at three.)
What an adult approach to romance. Real people reap the consequences of situations and in "Undone" Simon and Angelica do too.
The only slight criticism I can give is that the black-moment-start is resolved too easily. A slight plot tweak would have hurt a few feelings, broken a heavy heart and added a bittersweet resolution instead of a neat and tidy one - making the 'start' all but forgotten.
Well done, Lila. Your books deserve much love.

Suatu waktu, Simon sangat lelah menghadapi peperangan.
I couldn't put this book down. From start to finish it kept me engaged and turning the pages. Undone was well written in one of my favorite genre's and time settings. I loved the romantic storyline and twists and turns that it took from one location to another and yet another. Angelica is a very strong character that finds it hard to trust anyone - Simon is a brave Captain that rescues Angelica and neither one will admit to falling in love with the other. It is a captivating, sensual story of a love that is fought, with a few captivating twists that had me in tears as well as laughing at times. The books cover is absolutely amazing as well. If you love historical romances, I definately recommend Undone!
I won a copy of this book from a GoodReads giveaway.
I feel like I cant describe this book without giving something away and I really don't want to ruin the surprise but I do agree that this is a highly emotional read so keep your box of tissues nearby ;) This book for me was a first of many it was my first book by the author, my first historical romance, and my first "grown up" (lol) fairy tale. I fell in love with this book quickly turning the pages to find out what happened next and found myself purposely doing everything I could to not read the last chapter cause I didn't want it to end. I loved the retelling of Rapunzel. The story and characters were very captivating to say the least and the story line was amazing. I will without a doubt be reading more from this author.

Loved this sooooo much. I don't think the description does this book justice. There are secret identities, pirate ships, intrigue, Louis the Fourteenth, a private island, an impossible match and so much more! Well written characters and fantastic plot together with such a great love story earned this title five stars from me.
Ego seorang pria memang luar biasa!!!!
Angelica tadinya ragu utk menceritakan rahasia kelamnya, tapi ketertarikan mereka yg luar biasa mencairkan hatinya.
Nah disini saya dejavu, krn mirip dgn plot cerita "Bittersweet Rain" by Sandra Brown.
Kisah cinta Simon - Angelica ini makin kacau balau apalagi setelah kematian Robert. Fouquet yg masih membayangi mereka dan bertekad utk menghancurkan hidup mereka, memfitnah Simon sbg pemberontak dan berencana mengumpankan Angelica yg molek ini kpd King Louis yg mata keranjang. Bagaimanakah mereka mengatasi prahara bencana ini?
Background Simon sbg anak nelayan dan keminderannya pd Angelica agak mengingatkan saya pada tokoh Kev Merripen dlm novel "Seduce Me in Sunrise" by Lisa Kleypas , tetapi karakter Simon jauh lebih unggul drpd Merripen yg meradang melulu bikin sebel saya. Sedangkan Angelica ini bukan tipe heroine favorit saya, dirinya nyaris selalu "disetir" para pria, walaupun pd klimaksnya dia berjuang utk Simon. Angelica ini terlalu mengandalkan keindahan fisiknya dan karakter bersahabatnya yg pasti disukai sejuta umat manusia.
Sssstt... epilognya mirip dgn epilog ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I haven’t been generous with my ratings lately, but for this author, I’m going all out: another five star read!
For an erotica, this was wonderfully researched. I appreciated not only the spicy scenes, but also the adventures that the black Demon and lost heiress had in this book.
Angelica has been in hiding for 10 years from a terribly evil man who has taken advantage of her birthright and herself (check out trigger warnings before reading). For the last decade, she has been hiding out in a convent outside of France, her true identity hidden. Until one fateful night, she literally bumped into our hero, Simon.
Simon is a commoner. He is a fisherman’s son but has great ambition and drive. All his life, all he ever wanted was to be ennobled. And so he commanded as a privateer fleets of ships that capture silver for the kingdom of France, hoping that one day he would bring much honor to his King and attain his lifelong dream.
This love story is compelling- it has a class difference, mystery, and intense attraction. It’s also filled with twists and turns that had me gripping my Kindle so hard for I wanted to know what will happen next. I swear, the suspense is too hard to resist, and I can’t wait to get on with the story that I had foregone sleep.
Truly enjoyed every moment of reading this. I highly recommend this author! This is fast becoming one of my favorite series.
As much as I am a big fan of Ms. Lila DiPasqua’s historical romance stories (which are AMAZING), I must admit after reading the first few chapters of this novel, I feared it would be a big flop. Not to mention the not-too-high rating (this is the work that got the lowest among DiPasqua’s works so far). But the more I read it, the more I was caught in the web that she magically wove for her story. I was always on the edge of reading the next and next chapter (although I mentally told myself to stop :D) just to see what was coming up, what would happen after every cliffhanger Ms. DiPasqua placed at the end of every chapter. And I seriously commend her on that, on her ability to pique the interest of readers and hold it for almost the whole novel.
However, after reading this book till the end, I also understand why it’s the lowest rated book of the author so far. There were many parts which made me want to scream in agony because of the dissatisfied feeling I got with how the story turned out, how the relationship between the two main characters progressed. Surely, the cat-and-mouse game between Angelica and Simon was delectable; it was sensual thanks to their heated sexual attraction from the beginning, while at the same time tugging at the heartstrings of the readers because of the tragic personal story of each person and the secrets about themselves they tried to hide. But after sometimes, it got boring a little bit, because I wasn’t satisfied at how elusive these people were to each other, how proud they were at keeping each other emotionally vexed while they should instead be embracing their love. It’s like the author was playing a cat-and-mouse game with the readers herself, by pushing the emotions of the story to a climax, then not rewarding the readers with a decent emotional release.
And not to mention to weird reaction Simon had when he found out Angelica wasn’t a virgin like he thought she had been (by having sex with her, of course). Thank God we had those paragraphs about Simon to know what he actually thought, but what about Angelica, what about her feeling when she saw that the man she just shared extreme intimacy with moments ago just walked out after figuring out she wasn’t a virgin, or when she revealed to him the real reason why she was so?
And when they finally fully embraced in carnal bliss and hinted signs of a blossoming, soul-shattering love, the social status of each person came to interfere. There are parts where I wanted to smash Simon’s head and put some senses into that man because Angelica - though born a noble lady - didn’t want anything to do with nobles. She wanted him and loved him for who he was, a man without a noble birth, but was even more noble than any noble people she came to know, because of his compassion, his courage, his kindness, his life’s mission to do good things and make lives happier for those around him.
And special kudos to Angelica, because for a young woman who experienced a horrible incident in the past, she was so brave, and fierce, and strong in her own way. She stood for herself, she wasn’t afraid or fearful for standing up against Simon and challenged him in their sweet game of love. And just imagine how much courage she must have possessed for agreeing to have sex (and then make love) with Simon after what she had been through at 14. Tremendous admiration for this woman!
Toward the end, there was a twist of fate that should have been made even more emotional. And the fighting scene or the plot to take down Fouquet wasn’t done very well. However, I still found myself turning chapters after chapters to read till the end (which is a good sign :D). And I actually read the ending and the epilogue twice :))) After all these things I pointed out, I must admit I couldn’t get enough of this story ^^ And all those heated, sensual and AMAZING sex scenes!!!! OMG, Mama DiPasqua is the best when it comes to writing them :D
P.S.: I met Jules and Sabine de Moutier - the couple in the first Fiery Tales book, A Midnight Dance - again. And it was so good (this time they were not the center of the attention, of course, but it was fun anyway ha ha :D).
I think I’ve read all of Lila DiPasqua’s previous books which are fun, erotic historicals based on fairy tales. In Undone, she plays off of the story of Rapunzel. Angelica is running from France, and her evil stepfather. Under the guise of a commoner, she takes shelter in a convent in the Republic of Genoa. She finds peace and contentment, and most of all security. No one will ever discover where she is. She finds joy in teaching orphans and becomes very good friends with a woman named Gabrielle.
When she hears of a villager nearby that is sick, she sneaks out to help them. While running back, she literally runs into a man. Picking herself up, she quickly detaches from him, and makes it back into the convent.
The man she hits is privateer Simon Boulenger. Simon is actually a commoner under the guise of an aristocrat. He has gathered a large fortune as a privateer, but he still isn’t a titled gentleman, nor an officer in the King’s Army. Obtaining something like that is very important to him. But he is tired and feels like he sends his men to die, just so Fouquet (The superintendent of Finance under King Louis) can become a richer man. He doesn’t want part of that anymore, and is trying to come up with a plan to extricate himself.
When Angelica runs into him, he decides he must hunt down the beauty that he quickly witnessed. He follows her back to the convent where he sees her getting hit by one of the nuns. Shocked, Simon grabs Angelica (who is unconscious) and her best friend Gabrielle, and takes them back to France with him. Obviously Angelica does not want to be in France, where the man she is running from lives. She also doesn’t want to be dragged around with Simon, refusing to tell him her real identity much to his frustration. But there is such a deep attraction between them, they soon start to discover each other’s secrets.
There is a lot that happens in Undone, but I don’t want to give too much away. Lila DiPasqua’s books have a very erotic tone.
Just like last eve, his unruly cock was fully alert to her presence.
When I read that sentence I knew we were in for some good smexy times. Who can dislike an unruly cock? Simon is a very horny guy. He has sex on his mind a lot. Maybe a little too much. His cock is bursting to get free and he often must walk around hiding his erection the best he can. He assumes, since Angelica has lived in a convent for the past ten years, that she is a virgin. Ah – but Angelica has secrets. So when they make it into the bedroom, and Simon realizes Angelica is not a virgin, there is drama. Drama that made me frown at Simon for awhile. He gets angry that she duped him into thinking she was a virgin. But I say – hold on there Simon. You are the one that took an unconscious woman from a convent. Was Angelica truly in harm’s way at the convent? Not really. She got slapped around a little for leaving unauthorized, which isn’t right but I wouldn’t say life threatening. When she wakes up, all decisions have been made for her. Simon refuses to let her go back to the convent. Partly because he doesn’t think she speaks his language, until he learns she does and then she might have heard secrets. Again, not Angelica’s fault. She is definitely attracted to him, but he controls everything about her. And becomes obsessed with learning everything about her. Many times I asked why? Why does Simon care so much? I felt his reasons for first taking Angelica from the convent, and then keeping her with him weak.
There are some good twists in this book in the second half. I enjoyed the final third of the book (although I do wish Fouquet had played a little bigger role). Simon’s unruly cock definitely has a lot of page time. Lila DiPasqua writes very sensual stories that are enjoyable to read. I definitely had some issues with Simon at the beginning, but in the second half of the book, the action picks up and I enjoyed the way the story turns out. A nice erotic historical overall.
I have to admit, I was not a fan of this story. Unfortunately I did not connect with the characters nor did I particularly like them. The cover art is beautiful and Undone just happened to be an Amazon freebie when I downloaded it. There are a lot of high ratings for Undone so it confuses me on why I didn't care for it as much as others. Hopefully I can accurately explain why it didn't do it for me.
Angelica literally runs into Simon right outside her home at night. Her home just happened to be a convent. Through the moonlight, Simon couldn't help but notice her beauty. She continued on her path and ran into the convent. Simon felt compelled to run in after her.
The story started out interesting enough. Almost immediately Simon was thrown into the role of hero and Angelica was ungrateful for his heroic efforts. Right off the bat I had a feeling I was not going to really enjoy the story. I loath stories where miscommunications are used to drive the plot forward. From withheld secrets to misinterpreted conversations I was beginning to dislike the story as I started to move through the pages.
It was also driving me nuts as Simon's penis seemed to have a mind of it's own. It was unruly and hard pretty much each and every page and I was getting bored with reading about Simon constantly fighting his raging hard-on. Angelica really hadn't done anything enduring enough to earn such strong feelings. Okay, she was stunning to look at in her plain grey convent garb but really, there was nothing that would make me understand Simon's feelings toward her.
There is a scene on ship where Angelica is locked away on in a cabin. I get her anger. I understand her anger. As a woman I want to side with her but the way she handles the situation like a immature, spoiled child throwing furniture and screaming made me rather wish someone would just throw her overboard. She orders someone to get Simon (the ship's captain) and he comes to her aid. She is so freaking spazzy and as soon as Simon sees her with her messy hair, guess what? He gets a hard on.
There is a good setup where by the author draw parallel lines of Simon's background and Angelina's background. Both hate and despise the same man, Fouquet but since both refuse to talk to each other about their lives, a major opportunity to join forces is completely lost. Instead they both walk around aroused, attracted, mad and in Simon's case, hard.
One of my other main dislikes was mostly centered around the writing style. I don't like being constantly told how each of the characters feel on practically every single line. As a reader I like to experience the emotions along with the protagonists. I'd rather feel the anger, lust, embarrassment or whatever the emotion is by reading about their expressions. It is okay to have the emotions laid out once in a while but it was so constant and just seemed way over done.
"She felt warn and right in his arms" "He felt disgust down to the very marrow..." "He felt like a complete imbecile" "she felt...feminine."
It just "felt" like every other sentence was having it explained to me. I hope I am explaining this well enough.
Undone does get better the second half of the book but maybe because I kept picking up the book up and putting in down, Undone lost the drive for me to embrace the story.
Undone may be the forth book in the series but you can 100% read this story as a stand alone.
So I absolutely loved this book ( I know I absolutely love a lot of books, but I really, really, loved this one). I'm also super excited because I got this book as a goodreads first read (only my second win, and my first to review). Yay!!
I was very impressed with the first two in Lila DiPasqua's Fiery Tales series (sadly I've not yet read the third book) so I was very much so looking forward to reading Undone. Undone, like all the fiery tales are loosely based on classic fairy tale, in this case it is Rapunzel.
Angelica has spent years hiding away in a convent in the Republic of Genoa. No one, not even her closest friend Gabriella, knows anything about her past, not even her last name. And Angelica does her best to keep it that way. Everything changes on one moonlit night when Angelica, making a extremely rare trip outside the convent, literally runs into Simon Boulenger, a Frech Privateer captain. Simon is so taken with Angelica's beauty does something he has never done before, he chases after a woman. Simon finds Angelica just in time to see her being hit as punishment for leaving the convent. The blow cause Angelica to fall and lose consciousness. Enraged, Simon takes it upon himself to remove both Angelica and Gabriella from the convent. He takes them onto his ships and sails them to France.
So the hero rescues the fair maiden in the first 20 pages, or so we think. Until Angelica awakens and realizes that she has been returned to the very place she has tried so desperately to get away from. She demands to be returned to the convent, but Simone refuses. Instead they set sail for Simon's West Indian Island home. And the real adventure/love story begins.
There is so much about this book that is just amazing, and I don't want to ruin it with spoilers. Angelica may quite possibly be my favorite historical romance heroine yet. She suffered through and survived things that no woman should have to, and she remained strong. I love that while she has the intelligence and common sense to be afraid when the situation calls for it (unlike so many romance heroines), she also stands her ground and doesn't cower in fear at the slightest things (again unlike so many romance heroines). And Simon, who I absolutely adore, is the first historical romance hero I've some across in quite a while, who is not somewhat of an asshat (granted some of them have been likable asshats, but still asshats all the same). Simon has all the qualities one looks for in a hero, and not just the obvious ones like looks, or wealth. Simon has a heart, he has a conscience, and he genuinely feels compassion and love for others.
There are so many things that could keep this couple a part, but they fight through it all and in the end find their much deserved Happily Ever After.
Aside from the awesome characters, I have to also says that I think Ms. DiPasqua is just an all around great writer. Her loves scenes are hot and very well written, but it is the emotion her characters display that really warms me. You also can tell that she put a lot of effort and research into creating this book. She worked hard to make things as historically accurate as possible, but didn't make the historical aspects boring at all. Her writing style pulls you in and makes it so that you never want to put the book down, unless you are moving on to the next one in the series.
I supposed the fact that our hero, Simon, "rescued" our heroine, Angelica, from a sort of prison could be compared to the tale of Rapunzel. But overall, I don't really see this as a fairy tale retelling. But that doesn't mean Undone is not a great read on its own. This book is very well written with passionate main characters surrounded by love, drama, and action. It's a great, fun read that is easy to get swept up in.
Our main couple, Simon and Angelica, were fabulous. There was great chemistry between them. You can really feel that attraction between them. They each had their own attractive qualities that made it easy for you to like and root for them. I thought Angelica's quiet strength made her a likeable heroine. Simon's sense of honor and responsibility made him a wonderful hero. He was really my favorite part of the book. He really provided the book's energy and passion. For a historical hero, he had quite a mouth on him which made him even more alluring. He encompassed all that you want in a hero, he's handsome, compassionate, brave, and honorable. He made the book for me.
There were some quirks that I didn't like. For instance, there was a little bit repetitiveness regarding the use of certain words, mostly the curse words. It wouldn't have come to my notice if they didn't occur often within a paragraph or two. When they show up in consecutive paragraphs, it tended to grate on me. Also, there times (few and far between) where a term would pop up that you wouldn't expect from a historical fiction, not sure if "balls-deep" was a common term used around Louis XIV's court. Furthermore, I really didn't like Gabrielle, mostly for her crying session towards the first half of the book. It just seemed like every scene she's in, she had to cry. It just annoyed me. Luckily she wasn't in many scenes in the second half of the book, so there wasn't much opportunity for crying.
However, these details I pointed out are just me nit-picking at things. Even though it caught my attention, in no certain terms did they diminish the quality of the book.
This was a very entertaining, enjoyable hot romantic historical fiction. It had so many things in it such as romance, steamy love scenes, dramatic twists, and even some sword-fighting action. I was left feeling very satisfied and looking forward to reading more work from DiPasqua. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
She writes some WICKED GOOD FEIRY tales. Undone is SO good...
Official review: n Undone we get to learn more about Simon Boulenger, who we meet in A Midnight Dance (book 3). Simon’s only goal in life has been to become an aristocrat, by any means possible. Simon has battled his way from poverty and certain death to become an officer in the King’s navy. Oh and Simon is a very, very naughty boy. Why you ask? Well you will just have to read the book :) But after so long of doing anything it takes to move up in this unforgiving world, Simon is starting to rethink his goals. After the death of a good friend he doesn’t know that being an aristocrat is worth it any more. He starts to question his goals, who he is, where he is going and what he wants. At that very moment fate steps in and literally knocks him to the ground in the form of a very beautifully plain woman. Life for Simon will never be the same from this moment on.
Angelica has been in hiding herself away for many, many years and she has no intention of ever being found. She is content where she is, it might not be ideal but it is better then ever going back home. But when Angelica finds herself tangled in a mess of arms and legs with a very large and incredibly handsome man, she has no idea the twist her life just took.
Lila DiPasqua is a wickedly talented author. I have loved every story of her’s that I have read. Undone left me totally undone, but in a very, very good way. Lila does a great job of having two main characters who are stubborn to a fault, beyond a fault really. Who both are hiding secrets that they are ashamed of. Each fears the truth will send the other running. But the journey that these two go on will show them that truth, trust and love can conquer all.
I will say that Simon & Angelica drove me nuts, they made me laugh, they made me cry on multiple occasions, but in the end like any good fiery tale there was a happy ending.
I loved Undone and so can’t wait to see what Lila has in store for us next with Three Reckless Wishes (book 5 in the Fiery Tale series), Luc’s book.
HUGE thank you for Lila for the great honor of letting me read your story and for listening to my feedback. Love you girl!!!
