As the reality of the untimely death of King Jastark (John Stark) sinks in, it is up to the wizard and witch council’s to fight back the Dark Wizard-Elf, Ulicoth. At least until the dead king’s son Drago (Peter Stark) can take the thrown and fulfill The Second prophecy. Will the fact that Drago was trained as an ordinary wizard and raised on Earth (the Normal world of man) stand in the way of him being the king the second prophecy says he'll be? As the young king has just turned sixteen, his true powers have reached their peak. His luck goes from bad to worse as he has an unorthodox entrance into the mystical world of Dorminya, and Ulicoth will stop at nothing to track down and capture or kill the boy king, and take over Dorminya forever.

"I started writing in 2002, it was when I was working in the injection moulding department of a factory that I had the Idea to write The Second Prophecy. I was on my lunch break, and as it was night shift I was on my own in the canteen when it came to me. I had always had a great imagination, so I spent the second half of the eight hour shift adding to the idea for The Second Prophecy, and when I got home I sat down in front of my computer and started writing."
"I took a long break after writing my novel. It was mainly because I couldn't find a publishing company to take it on, although I got good reviews from everyone who read it. Even the son of my English tutor, who I have never met(the son, not the English tutor). The truth is, I lost heart that I would get it published through conventional means. Then I read about Amazon letting people publish their work for free, and thought I would try it."
"I Have more than a few ideas for more stories, and I'm looking forward to writing and publishing them all."
What I liked about this book: the beginning was sweet and interested me enough to read ahead the humor which sprung up in unlikely places and kept the tale from being too dark- the exchange between Delsani and Peter about "roadrunner" was one such scene. the relationship between John and Helene how the different factions seemed to mistrust each other, even though they were on the same side and the funny situations it led to.
What I didn't like: quite a few spelling mistakes-obvious enough to put me off the dialogue felt awkward in a lot of places like a lot of first books, this one contains scenes that could be left out or happen off stage, as well as, repetitive conversations the Council plans to mess with Peter's memories and his mom agrees to it? Peter's personality is inconsistent-sometimes we're told he's shy in front of strangers and at other times, he behaves in the exact opposite way! the scene where Peter starts to confront his bully of a teacher- it breaks off and there's this huge info dump and then we're thrown back into the scene again.
What I found confusing: how could nothing be known about the Valcotas? why was there a lot of misunderstanding about the prophecies/ wizard history?

The Second Prophecy The Dragdani Prophecies Part One By R. Alan Ferguson
John Stark has been exiled to the “normal” world where he has married and created a life for himself, but one day a great wizard arrives to tell him that he is no ordinary wizard he is the last remaining descendant of the only Dragon/Wizard/Elf and he must return to his home to defeat the Evil Ulicoth. Things do not go as planned though as the King John Stark is murdered bringing about a reign of terror. When it comes to light that his wife is with child all they can do is wait for their savior to be born and come into his full powers. But Peter Stark is not like his father or any other that has come before him, he is something more powerful than their world has ever seen.
From the beginning this story captivates your attention; it is truly an imaginative tale full of creatures rarely used in novels to the most creative invention of beings. The story itself is fast paced with so many things involved I was afraid I would not be able to do it justice in my synopsis. The only problem I found is that there are quite a few typos, such as though instead of through, though they are small mistakes it gets a little annoying if not for this then this would be one of the best books I have read in a long time.
John Stark was exiled to the “normal” world, our world. There he married and is expecting a child when he is returned to Dragdani to fight Ulicoth, the dark lord who is trying to rule. John ends up dying but not before he prophesizes the coming of a great king that will win the battle against Ulicoth. That king will be his son, Peter Stark, who is not even born yet.
Fast forward 16 years, Peter is just turning 16 and getting his full powers. The problem is Peter has no training and has more power than anyone has seen or knows what to do with. They have to train him and get him ready to battle Ulicoth to save Dragdani. The question is if Peter will follow through and if he can defeat Ulicoth.
I liked how the story starts out with John Stark. It was a great way to get the history of events but it seemed a little rushed. Then it seems like an impossible task for those that have had to suffer for Ulicoth. Others keep up hoping for Peter, but can Peter help them. He has a lot of power that no one has seen before but can he get the training to use it before Ulicoth finds him and kills him?
This was a pretty good story. It is a little rough and could be fine turned. I think if it flowed better when talking about John Stark and any early story would make this a lot more enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong, it was still a good read.
I originally downloaded this book a while back and started reading it, I liked it despite all the mistakes that plagued it. It was hard to read, though I found out that it was re-edited and thought I would download a new copy and try it. I'm really glad that I did as this version is so much easier to read and lets you delve into this new imaginative world for a truly magical adventure.
This is definitely one of the best books I've read in a long while. If you like wizards, magic, and adventure, then this is the story for you. I am giving this book Five stars because that's how much I like it. Though it is obvious that this author has only started out, I can't wait to see what he will be able to do when he gets more writing experience.
These are two reviews my eBook has received on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnifico, 4 Mar 2012 By Sam This review is from: The Second Prophecy (The Dragdani prophecies part 1) (Kindle Edition) I downloaded this book yesterday and immediately enjoyed the start of the book.
I'm really liking the fact that the story it's self tells us what happens before Drago was born and it slowly but surely allows us to follow his life up to the age were his powers manifest.
I do have to say, for a novice writer, you've started off quite well.
Nice choice of cliff-hanger too, i'm looking forward to the second book in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun alternate world, February 27, 2012 By Michelle Isenhoff (Michigan) This review is from: The Second Prophecy (The Dragdani prophecies part 1) (Kindle Edition) R. Alan Ferguson is new to publishing, and his prose does mark him as a newbie. However, he has a vivid imagination, and many of his story ideas are very good. Indeed, this fantasy includes some very unique details and many great place and character names. He also hints at a lot of thoughtful back story, which gives the setting a history and veracity.
Within, the land of Dorminya lies under the threat of the Dark Lord, Ulicoth. But a prophecy, spoken by a late, great king, promises hope. But do prophecies always come true? To those living close to the shadow, it seems not. Those with longer sight, however, still watch for a savior. And as The Second Prophecy spans two generations, this world of magical creatures must wait long and navigate many twists and turns to see if their expectations will be fulfilled.
If the word "prose" isn't in your general vocabulary and you like adventure, magic and alternate worlds, you'd probably enjoy a trip to Dorminya.
