(I need to know about that phone call right now that Finn received!! Is he having to leave to go on tour or did someone die in her family or did they find out their relationship?? I hope he hasnt been in remission and has cancer like his mother. The title would be fitting for the 1.5 Novella then there is a book 2 after that. Questions, I really need a synopsis here Jen!!!) side note before I read Out of Time
Out of Time Review.......So......Jen.......What the Crap!! Not just a "Cliffhanger" again but a HUGE Cliffy.......I am definitely not feeling "Positive as a Proton" about this at all!!
I freakin loved this book from the beginning to the end! I cried off and on probably the last 25% of the book! Wow, another fantastic series and cannot wait for book 3. I so want to see things come together for Finn and Carrie because they have gone through so much heartache and tragedy together. I would love to see at least a proposal maybe a wedding, just saying.
I would even like to see a story for Hernandez and Marie. That would be interesting....hint, hint ;)
Finn and Carrie's story only gets better in this book. I absolutely loved Out of Line and was worried this book would let me down. Jen McLaughlin, you nailed it. By the end of this one, I am beyond invested in Finn and Carrie's relationship. Out of Line ended on a cliffhanger when Finn receives a phone call and you can only assume the news wasn't good on the other end. Out of Line opens with the fallout from the phone call and Carrie and Finn trying to deal with the aftermath.
Finn is hard not to love and it is easy to see why Carrie only has room in her heart for him. He is a honest, hardworking, straight shooter that only has eyes for Carrie. He is willing to go through hell and high water to make sure his relationship with Carrie works for not only the two of them but for Carrie's dad, Senator Wallington and her family. He wants to fit into her world and is willing to go to any length as he believes it will make her happy.
Carrie loves Finn unconditionally and wants to make sure that he understands she will pick him no matter what the fallout with her father. Finn has lived a harder life than Carrie. He knows that although she speaks the truth to him in regards to their relationship's future, it may be easier said than done to stand up to her father. Finn chooses a path for himself that he hopes will make him more palatable for Carrie's father and the ramifications could be life changing.
You have a good idea what is going to happen but you can't put the book down as Jen McLaughlin's skillfully navigates from Carrie's POV to Finn's POV. It is absolutely heartbreaking to read how much they need each other and how both of them realize that part of their heart is missing when they are not together.
I can be honest and say that I had no idea I was at the end of the book because I was enjoying it so much. The ending caught me off guard…which is always a good thing. I look forward to Round 3, Jen McLaughlin!
5+ beautiful heart wrenching stars. This story was written so beautifully it just pours out emotions you thought you never had. I find myself sitting here shocked and devastated and completely torn with heart ache. This book was so realistic, for a moment I thought I was Carrie. It reminded me so much of my past relationship with an american soldier, we will never know when they will be called away for duty. so I know how Carrie felt through the whole entire book. And Finn let's just say he's so perfect that I wish I could find myself a man like that. Protective, loyal, honest, and never makes a promise he can't keep. Just by reading Finn's point of view made me cry even harder while i read the story. Now I know how a real gentleman feels. This book will make/probably change the out look on your life. Because it did mine. I Loved it and I hope there is a third in the series. A bit of a cliffhanger but other than that you will be completely in a book hangover after 50%. MUST READ.
"The sun will continue to shine because I have you. And you have me. Nothing will change that, okay?"
It's Round 2 for Finn & Carrie and I was beyond pleased with the outcome. Jen McLaughlin did not let us down!!
The attraction between the two characters is still fresh & new since Out of Line. The love they have for one another is so strong and are finally together. The only problem? They still have to keep their relationship a secret.
Carrie is still Carrie - the adventurous, big hearted, world saving heroine of the story.
Finn is still Finn (probably hotter this time around) - the Marine, the surfer, Californian, hot bodied, tattooed body, motorcycle riding sex on legs.
Out of Time focuses on how Finn & Carrie will make this relationship survive in hopes of finally getting their happily ever after even though the odds are against them.
Finn gets a call that will all determine that. Carrie & Finn have a few days to try and fit in as much together time as possible as their fate is in the hands of the military.
All Finn wants is a normal life with Carrie - a relationship they don't have to hide because of her affluent family (and his boss, Carrie's father) just may not approve us because he comes from a different lifestyle and not what they would want for their daughter.
Finn is sent away for a while, a mission that will change everything. He'll be able to change his life so and he Carrie can finally have their happily ever after, with or without the approval of her family.
But then ..... Something happens while Finn is out on the mission. Lives are rocked. Secrets are exposed. Love is put to the test.
Out of Time will blow your mind!! The ending will having you saying "no, no, no, no" a few times because it all just feels that real.
Now....we must wait for the conclusion. I really am rooting for Carrie & Finn to finally get the happily ever after they deserve!!!
If you loved Out of Line, then you are going to be blown away by Out of Time. As I am writing this, I am still in awe by this book. I have such a book hanger over right now, it is not even funny. In my opinion, this books was even better than the first. Out of Time is the second book in the Out of Line series. If you haven't read the first book, please, stop what you are doing at this very moment and go and read it right now! Then pick up Out of Time and read it immediately afterwards.
Out of Time picks up right where the first book ended. Super hot Marine Finn is trying his hand at a relationship with Carrie. He knows he is not the best choice for her. He can see it even though she can't. He is not what her Senator father has in mind for his only daughter. Finn wants to be better for Carrie and her campaigning father. He is a cross roads as to what to do with his life. Go to school, continue in the Marines, or go a different road completely.
Carrie doesn't want Finn to change at all. She loves him the way he is. After all, she fell in love with his whole person, tattooed surfer who is a little rough around the edges. She doesn't understand why he is making a big deal about changing who he is to make her father happy. Carrie is growing into her own person and she is happy the way everything is. If her father and mother don't approve, she doesn't seem to care. Carrie keeps insisting that Finn doesn't need to be anyone but who he is. Finn won't listen. He wants to make sure no one will ruin their relationship because of who and what he is.
Finn and Carrie have decided not to tell anyone they are seeing each other. It is more Finn not wanting to let the Senator know cause he knows he will not approve. Carrie doesn't want her dad to know because she doesn't want Finn or his dad to loose their jobs. She likes having Finn be her bodyguard and boyfriend. She doesn't want a new bodyguard who will watch her and Finn. Since the story is told through both Carrie and Finn's point of view you get to see everything happening. I loved this, because you know what both of them are feelings, seeing and doing. You get to see how much the couple really does love each other unconditionally, as well as see what the other is willing do to make this relationship work.
Staremo a vedere… Datemi il seguito…. Subito!
Out of Time is the second book in Jen McLaughlin’s Out of Line Series. After falling completely in love with Carrie and Finn in the first book, Out of Line, I was beyond eager to get my hands on this book. Well, it was everything I could have dreamed of…and more. I loved, loved, loved this book.
Carrie and Finn have overcome the obstacle of Finn being Carrie’s bodyguard and are enjoying their newfound love. Well, they’ve sort of overcome that whole bodyguard thing. Carrie’s father, a senator, still has no idea their relationship went from professional to personal. They plan on telling him, eventually, but now the more pressing problem is Finn’s role in the Marines. He’s gotten an ominous call and fears he will be deployed much sooner than he thought. Fearing he will upset her if he hides what little info he has about leaving, he has no choice but to tell her what may be in store. Finn sees an upside to this mess when he’s given the chance of a lifetime in the form of a special mission. One that will hopefully improve the senator’s view of him and ultimately the senator’s view of him as someone worthy of dating Carrie. Now, the only thing left is to just enjoy the possibly limited time they have left together. Of course, that’s when her father decides to come for a surprise visit. Now the question becomes will it be the Senator’s visit or Finn’s choice of a mission that will threaten their relationship more….
As some of you may know, I completely adore this series. So much so that I deemed it “tattoo worthy”….and got a Finn tattoo. Well, I was a nervous wreck waiting to read this book. I had an idea from the message Finn got in the last book that he would be leaving Carrie. Well, between the waiting game and Carrie’s dad visiting, I didn’t think my emotions could get any more chaotic! I was a ball of nerves from one page to the next but then I would get to a Finn and Carrie moment and I would just swoon and give a happy sigh. The heat and passion between them is scrumptious. I adore these two. I don’t know of many book couples that I enjoy this much. Finn is just, well, the perfect package. Loyal, caring, sweet, sexy and so in love with Carrie he is the perfect guy. If he didn’t already win my heart in the first book he would have won it in this one. His love for Carrie is so intense and so real. I just adore that man! Carrie is once again a girl with quite a head on her shoulders and really shows it at the very end of this book. She knows what she wants and will do what it takes to make it happen for her and Finn. The navigation from Carrie’s POV to Finn’s POV is so well done and makes his book that much better, which I didn’t think possible.
The ups and downs Carrie and Finn have to deal with in the beginning of the story are nothing compared to what they go through right before this story ends. Get tissues handy. Not a few tissues, a box of tissues. I was a complete and utter mess by the time I finished reading (I’m actually tearing up as I type this review). Not all sad tears though….there were tears of joy and relief after all the sad tears. I won’t give anything away, but I will say I would never recommend a book that ended badly….so you’ll just have to trust me on this. Jen writes emotion so damn well. It’s raw and beautiful and makes the reader feel everything Carrie and Finn are feeling. It’s a rare gift and I appreciate every moment of it.
After all my blubbering, if you take one thing away from this review, it’s that you MUST get this book and if you haven’t read the first in the series, read it….and then read Out of Time. I am waiting on pins and needles for the next book and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Finn and Carrie.
Thank you, Jen, for another amazing read and for a book dedication that still has me smiling from ear to ear! Heart you, girl!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Would I ever be able to convince him I loved him exactly how he was, not as a version of what he could be? That I didn’t want him to change at all?
For me, this book was so much more delicious than the last, and I’m not even a little ashamed to admit that I misted up more than once. There was am honesty about it, a rawness, that really let us get to the heart of the characters. To strip them bare, both literally and figuratively, to see into their soul. Finn OWNED this book, and held NOTHING back. The emotions that we are privy to witness will simply make your heart swoon overtime! There is something about a man in uniform, all strong alpha, ALL male, so strong, commanding, and yet wears his heart on his sleeve, that is just SO mouth-watering to read!
I will not leave you. And if you leave, I will always be here waiting for you when you get back. Whether it’s in a few days, a week, or a freaking year. I’ll be here. I’ll be yours.
Out of Time is definitely more heart-pounding than its predecessor! There were moments when I literally thought my heart would simply stop working. Ah hell, who am I kidding, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop the ENTIRE book! My heart ached for what was inevitably to come. I cannot begin to imagine the emotional turmoil that military members and their families go through, wondering if their loved one is safe, but I CAN empathize. My heart goes out to them, for they truly HAVE strength I could only hope to someday possess.
Even more beautiful than the last, I cannot wait to see where Jen takes us next. Carrie and Finn will stay in my hearts for a long time, especially Finn. 4.5 stars for me!
As most of you know it is hard to get a 5 star rating out of me. Hands down this book (and series) deserves it. For you Carrie and Finn fans out there, you are gonna love this book. Don’t worry I WILL not give too many spoilers because like me, your gonna want to savor every second because, yes, this books ends in a cliffhanger too!!!! UGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I mean that in the best way possible!
This sequel starts out with Carrie and Finn together. God, do I love Finn!!! He is your tattooed bad boy but he is such a teddy bear at heart…your perfect guy (swoon). You can feel their love seeping out at you. They have decided to throw caution to the wind and be together. Only they are keeping it to themselves for now until the right time to spring it on Carrie’s Dad.
They are spending tons of time together and their relationship is moving forward and I loved every freakin second of it. And then a couple things happen…Carrie’s father seems to back off on wanting reports on Carrie from Finn. Which is so out of character for him and his freaks Finn out because he is wondering why. Could her father have someone watching him and know that Carrie is with him? Then, Carrie mentions she thinks someone is following her and lastly, Finn gets a call to meet with his CO for a possible deployement. Or is it for something else…HMMMMM.. Yes, I know!!! I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how all these things played out. And they do and your gonna be shocked!
And I did shed a tear. Or ten. LOL…I refuse to ruin this story for you but I will say that parts broke my heart and others made me smile and I am waiting on pins and needles for the next book. Love, love, loved this book!!
Out of Line was such a fantastic book and I was looking forward to reading Out of Time because of the cliffhanger. Nothing could've prepared me for the devastation I'm feeling after finishing Out of Time. This story totally rocked my world. I'm wrecked. I'm devastated. My heart has literally shattered. And she left us with another cliffhanger!!
Finn is such a wonderful young man. I couldn't help but fall in love with him. He's the man I would choose for myself. He absolutely worships Carrie, but he isn't made out to be sappy and unbelievable. He's just like I imagine any marine who loves his woman would be. And Carrie is a down-to-earth college student who comes from rich, powerful parents, but she loves her blue-collar, harley-riding, tattooed marine and she loves him with her entire being. It felt like they were me - like they were part of my world. I cried tears like what was happening to them was happening to me. If I could go shake Jen McLaughlin's hand for writing such wonderful story with beautiful characters, I would do it in a heartbeat! I can't say enough good things about this series! 5 stars isn't nearly enough. The only negative is when will the next book come out??? LOL
I was a huge fan of the first book, Out of Line, and was really hoping that Jen would deliver something as amazing. AND SHE TOTALLY DID! I loved that the relationship wasn't challenged by a third party, but by natural things that arise in relationships--work, parental disapproval. It was beautifully done and seeing Finn so wrapped up in Carrie was AWESOME. Read it.
This series is getting better with each book. Just when Carrie and Finn think they've found their happiness, the real world interferes and tears them apart. I seriously did not expect the story to take this direction and I was heartbroken for Finn!
This book begins right where Out of Line ended. They mystery of the phone call is revealed. Finn and Carrie finally have bared their secrets and are truly together. But now they have to face hiding their relationship from her powerful overprotective father who hired him as her bodyguard. And also deal with the possibility of Finn having to leave for deployment or assignment.
"This was a pattern in my life. The second things started to look up for me, shit always blew up in my face."
They seem to be on borrowed time. Their fragile new relationship is tested. Their feelings are intense so the the thought of separating or loss is difficult and frightening for them both. They are trying to learn to truly be a couple during these stressful times and it is challenging and complicated.
Together they are seemingly opposite as she is a young college student and wealthy politician's daughter. And he is a tattooed, motorcycle riding, Marine/bodyguard. But they truly fit together and have a strong connection and chemistry. Finn is protective, caring, and devoted. Carrie is coming into her own, fighting more for what she wants and who she wants to be, and trying to come out from under her father's thumb. And Finn is trying to make plans for the future to make himself feel more worthy for the politician's daughter. Even though Carrie accepts him just like he is.
"Fuck, I love you. So damn much it scares she shit out of me. I've never been scared of anything before. Guns. Surfing. War. But now I have the biggest fear of all--losing you."
But in trying to secure a future for them, will Finn ultimately lose it all?
This is the second book in this series and again even though it gives us some closure to the current story line, it also leaves it open for more trials and tribulations in the next and final book expected Spring/Summer 2014. This was a fast-paced story told in both points of view with romance, secrets, danger, and suspense. It was sweet, sexy, heartbreaking, tense, and emotional. The characters are truly likable and I am totally invested in their outcome. These two deserve a happy-ever-after!
Thanks to Jen McLaughlin for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review. Will be posted at Reviews by Tammy and Kim.

Note: I received a copy of this book from InKSlinger PR and the author in exchange of a fair and honest review.
I love this book! I loved book 1 so I was definitely excited to read this one! Finn and Carrie are one of my favorite couples out there.
Carrie and Finn's romance is put on hold when Finn receives a message saying that he has to report back to duty. Another problem? Carrie's father. Carrie and Finn have gone through so much heartache that I think is time that these two get a break! And a break for me too because I was a mess in those last chapters! But we also get to see the great relationship that they have, they are not perfect, like every couple they have their fights and faults but underneath all that you can see the amazing and intense love they have for each other. Their story just keeps getting better and better! And their sexy scenes? EVEN BETTER! Filled with a lot of heat and passion.
OMG cliffhanger alert!! I'm dying! Where's book 3 when I need it?!!! That ending didn't leave me okay. It caught me off guard. Finn, I love you and everything is going to be okay!! Finn is such a great guy. He's so adorable and considerate while being extremely sexy! He's determined to work hard, go through hell and back just to give Carrie the life that she deserves and to make their relationship work.
I loved this book so much! I love Jen's writing style and while this is the only series I've read by her I will definitely be checking more of her stuff! And I highly suggest you do too, starting with this series!
Please bear in mind that this is book 2 in the series and the review may therefore contain spoilers for the first book.
OMG I think Jen McLaughlin is trying to kill me, the ending has left me in such an anxious state of anticipation I’m counting down the seconds until I get my next Finn fix. I adored the relationship in Out of Line but Out of Time takes it that one step further and takes my heart with it.
Carrie and Finn soon settle into a blissful, mutually supportive relationship. The way they are with each other is utterly swoon worthy and their chemistry explosive. However, they still have to keep their relationship hidden in fear of jeopardising Finn’s fathers retirement. This necessary deception weighs heavy on them. Not only do they have this strain to face they also have the continual threat of Finn being deployed hanging over their heads.
The emotions are poignant as is the tension within the narrative regarding these issues. However, I think the deployment and the anxiety/worry that a relationship with a military man can bring is so realistically portrayed your heart goes out to them both. There is a feeling of inevitability to the story.
I can’t go into details regarding the plot or it’s going to totally spoil it for you. I will say Finn and Carrie’s relationship and their interactions as well as their inner monologues will have you speeding through the pages alternating between gasps of shock and swooning.
I am so desperate to find out what happens next, I need my Finn Fix ;)
Sitting here in tears at that ending. Omg, Jen why did you do this to me?!?!!
it was beautifully written. I was still so inthralled in Carrie & Finn's love story and i love how it progressed over his novella. But not that its over, i'm happy & relieved but sad because of Dotter
Paradossalmente è proprio Finn a bloccarla.
Picking up right were Out of Line left off, Out of Time follows Finn & Carrie’s journey to find their place as a couple in a world where her over-protective father pulls all of the strings. The major twist this time is that the Marines have come calling, and Finn is facing a possible deployment.
Finn is given the deal of a lifetime; in exchange for a couple of months on special assignment, he will be given major career opportunities that could not only advance his career in the Marine Corps, but possibly help him out in the eyes of the senator. This is where I start to have problems with the book. Why?
The military doesn’t work that way.
In the first book, there wasn’t a lot of reference to the military other than Finn is a Marine. This time around, there was quite a bit more and that made it a little more difficult for me to enjoy. As a military spouse, I have a tendency to shy away from books with military characters; I become a lot like my husband while he’s watching Crimson Tide, or An Officer and a Gentleman. I have a hard time separating fact from fiction. This should not affect the lay reader at all, but for me, it was a little bit of a speed bump.
The heat between Finn & Carrie is still there, however you can feel their relationship start to evolve. Ms. McLaughlin again spends a substantial amount of time establishing the relationship between Finn & Carrie, and as Carrie becomes more independent and Finn becomes more
One of the things I really liked about Out of Time is that the emotions of dealing with the possibility of deployment were very real, and I could definitely relate to them. You’d think that when your loved one is getting ready to be sent away for months at a time that you would get along fabulously and take joy in every minute together. I can tell you that couldn’t be further from the truth. The last days leading up to deployment are usually spent in tears and fighting tooth and nail, it’s a defense mechanism we come up with to help deal with stressful situations, especially if your loved one is going off to war. That really hit home and was represented well.
Out of Time is another great read. It is well paced, well written, and just an all around engaging love story. I didn’t like it quite as much as the first, simply because of the military issues, but I would still give it 4 ½ stars. This is the second book in the series, however reading the first is not completely necessary before reading this one. I would highly suggest it though, simply to get to know more of Finn! Again, this one ended on a cliffhanger, a bit bigger than the last one, but I did feel like other issues had been resolved adequately before moving on to the next. I am definitely looking forward to the last book in the series when it comes out in spring/summer 2014. I have a feeling it is going to be an explosive end to the series!
Oh dear lawwwwd!!! Someone get me a cardiac surgeon because I’m pretty sure my heart gave out on me—in fact, I don’t even know how I’m managing to write this review right now.
Jen McLaughlin has done it again. Only this time…she managed to tear my heart out, shred it to pieces, then she shoved it back in only to do it all over again with that gosh darn ending. Yes, my lovelies, there is a cliffhanger—THE MOTHER OF ALL CLIFFHANGERS!!!!!! *takes a deep breath* Good thing Jen busts out books faster than any other author I know, so the wait won’t be thaaaat unbearable.
If you haven’t read book one, Out of Line, please do. Easy peasy. You can’t read this book with out the first one, yada yada.
You will love this series, aside from the debilitating cliffhangers—unless you’re a weirdo and are a glutton for punishment like me—the story of Finn and Carrie is just so dreamy. I can’t get enough of Finn Coram…he does something for Carrie in this book that totally melted my heart. Where can I find my own Finn??? *sigh* Carrie is pretty rad too. She’s always had a “Ms. Independent” streak about her, but this time she actually physically shows it by not taking shit from her parentals.
The best part of this book was that it is waaaayyy steamier and naughtier and sexier that book one. Even though the story line picks up right where it left off, there’s more confidence between these two when they’re rollin’ in the hay….or sand(since they like the beach).
I can’t recommend this book enough. Actually, I can’t recommend this author enough!!! I first fell in love with her books as Diane Alberts. She has never let me down. Any book I’ve read of hers, whether she’s writing as Jen or Diane, is amazing! Completely talented, I can’t get enough. :)
I really like Carrie and Finn as characters. He is sexy, smart, kind, has eyes only for Carrie...she is kind, honest, cares about him so much.. So it all continued in this book. We could see how much they love each other, they were ready to do anything for the other...but the whole book was nothing special really. It was slow. It picked up where the previous ended and the next week of their lives was dragged through the first 3/4 of the book. They were both afraid of the call Finn received because they didn't know what they want from him and nothing happened really. The last part of the book (Finn's job) was so short and quickly handled that I haven't even felt for him/her. In my opinion, it would be better if Finn was there for a longer time, worried if Carrie will wait for him...while Carrie would be worried about him and had to deal with her parents and defend their love. I guess, the 3rd book will be about that. Finn dealing with nightmares and fighting for their love. I think it would be better if there were only two books that covered the whole story. However, I'll read the next one, but I'm not that excited about it..
