"Alive or dead, the truth won't rest. My name is Georgia Mason, and I am begging you. Rise up while you can."
The year was 2014. We had cured cancer. We had beat the common cold. But in doing so we created something new, something terrible that no one could stop. The infection spread, virus blocks taking over bodies and minds with one, unstoppable command: FEED.
NOW, twenty years after the Rising, Georgia and Shaun Mason are on the trail of the biggest story of their lives-the dark conspiracy behind the infected. The truth will out, even if it kills them.
The Newsflesh trilogy boxed set includes Feed, Deadline, and Blackout.
Born and raised in Northern California, Mira Grant has made a lifelong study of horror movies, horrible viruses, and the inevitable threat of the living dead. In college, she was voted Most Likely to Summon Something Horrible in the Cornfield, and was a founding member of the Horror Movie Sleep-Away Survival Camp, where her record for time survived in the Swamp Cannibals scenario remains unchallenged.
Mira lives in a crumbling farmhouse with an assortment of cats, horror movies, comics, and books about horrible diseases. When not writing, she splits her time between travel, auditing college virology courses, and watching more horror movies than is strictly good for you. Favorite vacation spots include Seattle, London, and a large haunted corn maze just outside of Huntsville, Alabama.
Mira sleeps with a machete under her bed, and highly suggests that you do the same.
If you're truly, deeply, completely afraid that the Zombie Apocalypse is imminent, well, you probably need to stagger your medication a little better. But if you're a fan of doomsday survival mixed with a seriously deep and solid mystery and sprinkled with an epic love story, this is the series for you. It's non-stop action, non-stop scary and punch-you-in-the-face violent. It's political intrigue, stupidly heroic, snort your coffee on the screen and laugh out loud funny. It's heartbreaking and beautiful and smart and most of all, it stays with you. It's just impossible not to fall in love with these characters, the richest and most complex real-unreal-udead characters since Buffy and the Scooby gang. Seriously, do yourself a favor and read these books. Just don't read them before you go to sleep.
In all honesty, the Newsflesh Trilogy is one of the strangest trilogies I have ever read. Why is that? Well, I was expecting non-stop zombie action. Instead, the book seemed to focus more upon the politics and conspiracies of the world. Don’t get me wrong, it was entertaining – it just wasn’t what I was expecting.
So, as a forewarning: if you’re looking for zombie fighting this is not the book for you.
The only reason i`ve ranked the trilogy a 4 star and the books themselves a 5-star,it`s because if you read them separately, they will blow your mind.they are vivid, sharp and smarter then you`d think a zombie can be.But as a whole,less-then-a-week read-fest of all three, they got really repetitive.Too much coke, too much "bit into my fingers" ,too much pop-culture.Dont get me wrong,i love witty caracters."I am " a witty caracter. But good god,the world is ending over and over again.Nobody has the exactly same words ,like in a forever-loop.
love the writing but this book really wasn't for me...corruption in a post apocalyptic world is very interesting as a show but in a book series it bored me
I loved this series. I didn't expect to like the political aspects but they played well with the story telling. The zombies were traditional zombies with a twist, which I really enjoyed. While the main trilogy follows Georgia and her adoptive brother Shaun, we even have several novellas set in the same world that allow you to come back and see how it started or how it was going at different parts of the timeline.
i read it before the 2020 pandemic, and in many ways it helped me... 1) it could all get much worse 2) politicians never do what they have to do when they have to do it 3) people do stupid things for a laugh
THOSE FEED BOOKS? LOL I TRIED READING THE FIRST ONE AND THEY FELT LIKE A BOOK WRITTEN BY A 60 YEAR OLD WHO DOESN'T GET THE INTERNET.
IDGAF ABOUT HER CRYPTOZOOLOGIST BOOKS AT ALL AND THE NEWSFLESH BOOKS PISSED ME OFF BY THE END.
FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH I LIKED HER ZOMBIE BOOKS BUT DIDN'T CARE FOR HER MAGICAL CREATURE BOOKS.
IL THE WAY FEED DOES ZOMBIE LORE WITH ALL THE ROMERO FANS BEING THE ONES WHO SURVIVE THE FIRST WAVE, BUT THE WAY THE FIRST BOOK ENDED WAS SO DEVASTATING I'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO GO BACK AND FINISH THE SERIES.
I READ PART OF THE SECOND BOOK AND BOUNCED OFF IT SO HARD I'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO TRY AGAIN.
I GROUND THROUGH THAT ONE AND THE THIRD BOOK, BUT TBH I REGRET IT, THEY WEREN'T NEARLY AS GOOD AS THE FIRST ONE.
INCEST IS PRETTY MUCH A HARD NO FOR ME.
IT WASN'T EVEN THAT IT WAS INCEST, BUT IT WAS WEIRDLY FLUFFY AND NORMALIZED. IF SHE WAS GOING TO GO THERE, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FUCKED UP AND CODEPENDENT. PLUS, IT HIGHLIGHTED HOW GENERALLY EMOTIONALLY FLAT HER WRITING IS, WHICH WAS MOAR OR LESS OKAY IN THE FIRST BOOK WHERE THERE DIDN'T NEED TO BE HIGH EMOTIONS, BUT IS NOT AT ALL AN ASSET WHEN SHE'S SUPPOSEDLY TELLING A LOVE STORY.
HER ZOMBIE TRILOGY WAS READABLE AND THEN I STARTED THE THIRD BOOK, GOT TO THE BIG REVEAL BETWEEN THE BROTHER/SISTER AND JUST ROLLED MY EYES AND STOPPED.
DD ON THIS REVEAL.
IAWTDD
THEY'RE ADOPTED SIBLINGS, SO NOT BLOOD RELATED (ESTABLISHED IN THE FIRST NOVEL) AND HAVE A WEIRDLY CLOSE RELATIONSHIP. TURNS OUT THEY'RE IN LOVE AND HAVE BEEN FUCKING FOR THE FIRST TWO BOOKS, BUT THE AUTHOR DELIBERATELY HIDES THIS FROM THE READER EVEN THOUGH THE BOOKS ARE TOLD FROM THE SIBLINGS' POINT OF VIEW SO THERE'S NO LEGIT REASON TO OBSCURE THIS EXCEPT FOR A BIG SHOCKING REVEAL WHICH IS NOT SHOCKING.

I now own this boxed set and it holds the dubious honor of being the last purchase I will ever make in a brick and mortar store. Since I'm currently working at a job that restricts the use of all electronic devices. I was required, if I chose to read this at work, to buy the physical copy. Dead trees be damned, it's a policy... I must obey or I would have to wait until I was out of the building to keep reading. The price of the books online were ~$18. The price of the books in store.. the very same store... the very same books, ~$28.
I am done. Fuck them all. This is why I will no longer buy anything in stores unless I absolutely, positively, have no other way to purchase them - and that the price *online* is so outrageous it makes buying it online ludicrous. I've seen that. Every once and awhile. Unpopular Tupperware and Rubbermaid stuff for example since its size is... well shipping a container doesn't make sense for online vendors and the shipping is nine times out of ten more than the price for the item itself, I'll force myself to go in a store putting my hatefire in reserve, just to avoid the annoyance of having to pay for the "privilege" of getting to "boxes" shipped to my door at exorbitant prices.
Anyway fuck Barnes & Noble. This is the last time I will ever stomach that shit anymore. If you don't believe me, check it, I'm currently buying 2 packages of socks from Amazon. They're literally the same price in stores - oh and neither Walmart, Kmart, Sears, Marshalls - or any other retailer in my area even carries my size anymore - so who's missing out now? Sure as shit ain't me.
I really enjoy the Newsflesh series. I’m a zombie book lover and enjoy this series initially because of this. I stay for all of the additional story lines because the author has created a rich world with characters that are intriguing and well rounded. I well understand why this series has won awards. Those who like this unusual genre will be drawn in by this new refreshing look.
Love, love, LOVE these books!!! Great detail with the characters, the zombie uprising, the virus, the rebuilt society and the reporters who have an unhealthy obsession with finding the truth. :)
You will see my full review updated to my blog (whenever I get the darned thing working) shortly. But this was definitely a 5 star zombie book in my mind.
