Offering suggestions for several different kinds of celebrations, including weddings, family reunions, and holidays, a planning guide provides guidelines for calculating food quantity, creating invitations, entertaining, and cleaning up.
For generations, Heloise has been the name in household advice. Continuing in the tradition of her mother, the original Heloise, today's Heloise has become a media phenomenon. Along with her numerous television appearances and worldwide syndicated newspaper column, she has a monthly feature in Good Housekeeping, and her own website. Heloise is the author of several bestselling books.
3.5 stars. I think I bought this book thinking it would offer useful advice about running a household. The helpful hints are about party planning. If you are a party planner, aspire to be or are a grand hostess who needs to know things like that a “Balthazar” is the equivalent of 16 bottles of champagne then this is the book for you. It is very thorough and concise. She goes into amazing detail about all things related to the before, during and after of hosting an event. Sadly, or okay maybe not that sadly, my lifestyle lends itself more to casual barbecues, brunches and potlucks than organizes dinner parties or parties requiring caterers or entertainment. Yes all sorts of events are touched upon but most people don’t really need an entire book to throw some dogs and burgers on the grill or have cake and pizza for a child’s backyard birthday party.
To conclude, it’s a good book just not one I or most people I know will find particularly useful. The main take away (common sense - which, okay arguably, people are lacking) is make lists. Lots of lists. The rest is all easily accessed information available on the web these days.
When you need to know how to get a stain out of a table cloth, Heloise is the one who knows. Invaluable household hints. The special celebration calender is great. I have had this book for years & refer to it often.
