'I hate my red hair!' Tiffany feels that her red hair makes her weird and different from everybody else. But her mother knows that the color red is not weird at all. It is what makes things vibrantly beautiful. Roses are red. Red is a color of the rainbow. Christmas stockings are red. Listen in on a conversation between Tiffany and her mother as Tiffany is taught what else Red Is the Color Of...
I am a mother, a former elementary school teacher, and I love writing. Many may think that I spend my days locked in a cozy home library, sipping lattes, and writing the next best thing in literature! This is far from the truth, most of my days are spent playing with my son, doing dishes, conquering the laundry ( which is the never ending story in my house), navigating the grocery store, and in the evenings carving out a little time to write. I get inspiration from my crazy daily life, which one cannot get in a cozy home library! Everyday is a new story to be written... I wrote "Red is the Color of..." because I wanted to make children aware that the things that make us different from one another are the very things that make us wonderfully special. The book deals with my own experiences with being bullied and how my mother helped re-shape my self esteem and encourage self acceptance. This is my first published work and I hope that someday I may add a few more!
Long time since I picked up a children's book (my kids are grown and gone and no grandkids yet), but I'm glad I spent some time with Tiffany Haisten's delightful “Red Is The Color Of . . .” It centers around a little girl named Tiffany (don't know if this is autobiographical) who comes home from school distraught because her classmates teased her about her red hair. Fortunately Tiffany has a sweet and understanding mom who lovingly walks her through why red is a good color, the color of many wonderful things, especially “the color of the love that grows in your heart.”
This is a very upbeat book supported by colorful and imaginative artwork by Jason Hutton. Tiffany herself is rendered as cute but a little rag-tag, which makes her a real little girl. This book brought back happy memories for me of reading bedtime stories to my kids when they were small. Bet it will do the same for you, and if you have a little one, this is the book you want to cuddle up and share with them. Highly recommended.
A lovable Parent to Child Story Book I thoroughly enjoyed this cute little book. Red is the true color of LOVE. The simplicity and choice of words and cute illustrations makes it easy for your child to understand and read themselves. Written from a personal experience in life, showing the love and affection a parent has for their children, giving them confidence, support and acceptance, especially at a time of being teased and bullied. Growing up is a walk through life where experiences can be bitter sweet, but with the guidance and loving step by step parents support and character building of a child, all can be surpassed and dealt with. As a former first grade teacher, in my opinion, Red is the Color of... would be perfect for read-aloud story time with any class. An easy reader with beautiful illustrations makes it a delightful book to share in small groups or with the whole class. The theme of accepting both yourself and others would not be lost on younger readers and teaches a valuable lesson about caring for one another. I would recommend this book to anyone with small children and Pre-K-2 classroom teachers as well. Bravo to Ms Haisten for a job well done!
This story is about a young girl who hates that her hair is red. Her mother goes on to tell her that red is an awesome color. Red is the color of the rainbow, red is the color of Christmas stockings, and red is the color of roses. She continues to talk to her daughter about how her hair makes her beautiful. This is a great story to include in my classroom for students to see their own unique beauty.
This book adds to the classroom because it’s simple for young readers and it can be very relatable for other girls with red hair. The confidence that Tiffany gains from accepting her red hair can be inspiring.
"I hate my red hair!" and the story takes off.....
Tiffany feels like her red hair sets her apart from the rest of the kids around her. She just wants to be "normal" and blend in, not feeling all weird because her red hair makes her stick out from the rest of the pack. Her wise mom sits her daughter down and they have a tête-à-tête regarding the beauty that Tiffany possesses on top of her head. Her mother explains that the colour red is a beautiful colour. Why after all, roses are red, red is a colour in the rainbow and Christmas stockings are red....the world badly need the colour red. Red is the true colour of love.
With rich language and adorable, sweet illustrations Mom convinces Tiffany to accept her red hair which is one of her assets that makes her unique and special. This book is beautifully written and is sure to boost your child's self-esteem. It is a perfect read-aloud and will evoke lots of discussion about your own child's uniqueness, a uniqueness to celebrate not shy away from. I highly recommend this book.
