I LOVED this book! Have you ever felt like you don't deserve God's love and you'll never make it to heaven? This book was so eye-opening for me. I learned so much about King David that I never knew and to consider that he was one of God's anointed, even after all he did, gave me such hope! God loves me regardless of how much I deserve or don't deserve it. This book has given my heart the heart to go on.

My parents gave this book to me after I graduated high school. I must have read it once and never picked it up again until this year. There is so much to learn from the life of King David from his youth to his old age. I think everyone has heard of his greatest success - David versus Goliath. It is a story told throughout the ages and we still use it today to describe the underdog winning against all odds. And I think we have all heard the story of his greatest defeat - David and Bathsheba. That is the story of adultery, murder, and the cover up. We might even throw in the charge of abuse of power. However, there is also so much more to David's life.

Personally, I don't consider myself a "David"; I was not anointed king; I'm not married with dysfunctional children, I didn't cheat with someone's wife and then murder someone. My highs and lows are not like his; while David went from a cave to a crown, I went from school to school and temporarily unemployment to a steady job. The point of Anderson is the fact that David never gave up on his relationship with God, and neither did God. Even when David was at the nadir, God was still with him and brought him to his senses.

Lastly, David went out singing. I am encouraged by Anderson's recounting of David's last years and how he was still focus on the Lord God, not his regrets and sins. For those who are in the last years of their lives, David is a great example to follow.

This book was written by a pastor from Abilene, TX (close to my home town). It is packed with gems of wisdom.
