In the wild mountains of the Montana Territory, the Coulter ranch is a place of family, loyalty…and a hidden fortune.
Jericho Coulter, the eldest of six fiercely devoted brothers, is entrusted with safeguarding his family and the secret that binds them together: the Sapphire mine. To keep tragedy from striking again, he allows no outsiders on their land. When two women stumble upon their ranch, claiming Jericho himself sent for one of them as a mail-order bride, he aims to send them straight back where they came from.
Dinah Wyatt, a talented and determined doctor, wasn’t about to let her twin sister travel to Montana alone and marry a stranger. Dinah’s skills are immediately put to the test when one of the younger Coulter brothers is gravely injured, forcing the family to trust his life to her.
As Dinah and her sister become entwined in the Coulter family's life, sparks fly between the enigmatic Jericho and the captivating doctor. In a world where trust is hard to come by and secrets hold the power to change lives, Jericho and Dinah must learn that sometimes, the most precious secrets are those buried within our own hearts.

Nobody has brought the Montana/Wyoming/Canadian mountains to life for me in historical romance quite like Misty M. Beller. I devour her stories as quickly as possible – always to my ultimate regret because then I have to wait rather impatiently for the next one lol – and I love her talent for putting me right in the heart of the setting.
And at the heart of this particular book’s setting is Jericho Coulter. Steady, swoony, protective, swoony, sweet, swoony, reserved… did I mention swoony? Okay, okay, in all seriousness I really loved Jericho’s character. He’s got gruff-but-tender mountain man down to an art, and his sense of duty to his family is definitely to be admired. That sense of duty, however, comes with some heavy self-imposed burdens (which explains the ‘gruff’ part of the above description), and I thought Beller does a marvelous job of revealing his layers bit by bit under the ray of sunshine that Dinah brings into his life. Watching him fall in love was truly a pleasure and brought a big smile to my face more than once. I also had to laugh every time he or one of his brothers referred to the sapphires in ‘code’… I could almost see some comically raised eyebrows and a wink for emphasis. So cute!
Dinah and her pregnant twin sister Naomi have traveled all the way to Montana in response to an advertisement for a mail-order bride. An advertisement from “Jericho”… except the poor man has no idea what they’re talking about once they barrel onto his land. I’m very eager to see how this plays out in future books in the series, namely how many other women show up in response. Oh the delightful (and humorous) possibilities! For her part, Dinah is a very likable protagonist. Whip-smart, intuitive, full of faith and compassion, she is an excellent doctor and truly does bring light and life onto the ranch. I particularly enjoyed watching her interact with Jericho’s niece Lillian and the bond they quickly formed, and I also really appreciated the scenes where Beller lets us get to know Dinah as a doctor. I can’t imagine how harrowing it would be to practice medicine in the frontier, without all of our modern technologies, and then as a woman to boot. But the author shows us Dinah’s inner strength so beautifully in so many ways, including a nearby smallpox epidemic.
Bottom Line: Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is another layered romance from Misty M. Beller, a story whose characters won’t leave you anytime soon. I fell in love with Dinah, Naomi and the whole Coulter family (including little Apple), and the best part of this being the first in the series is that I’ll have hopefully many more opportunities to spend time with them on the pages. The author’s vivid settings and engaging writing voice paint an almost tangible picture of the place and time in which the story occurs, and the faith thread is so touching and relatable. Last, but not least, the romance is incredibly sweet, full of respect and grace as well as attraction, and I’m excited to see where the series goes from here!
(I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I read via Kindle Unlimited.)
What an excellent start to a new series! I loved the secluded setting and the reticent, yet caring, character of Jericho Coulter. He carried some heavy burdens on his shoulders, as he thought that he needed to keep his family isolated from most everyone in order to protect the treasure that existed on their land. He also felt that he had failed in protecting his sister years earlier, and that weighed on him. I loved seeing his heart open to Dinah and experienced his elation and even his heartache as his determination to remain isolated clashed with Dinah’s need to help others as a doctor.
The introduction to all of the Coulter brothers was wonderful and I look forward to reading their various stories. I am also intrigued to find out the back story behind Naomi and her baby and how she ended up in the situation she was in. I am eager to return to this family again in future books!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Audiobook (narrated by Leonor A. Woodworth) What a thoroughly enjoyable historical romance. There was never any doubt for me that Jericho and Dinah would end up together, but getting there was fun to watch. I’m delighted to know that Dinah’s sister, Naomi, will get her own story, but I’ve got two more books to read before that one. Thankfully I don’t have too long to wait to read them.
Robin’s Ratings 5🌟 = Out of this world. Amazing. Unforgettable. A personal favorite. 4🌟 = Loved/really enjoyed it. Will recommend to others. 3🌟 = Liked it. Glad I read it. Engaging/entertaining/interesting. 2🌟 = The book was okay, but I’ve enjoyed other books so much more. 1🌟 = For whatever reason, I didn’t like it and can’t recommend it.
Healing the Mountain Man's Heart is a sweet story of determination, loyalty, and faith.
PLOT I enjoyed Dinah's loyalty to her sister and admired her dedication to tending to those who needed her assistance, even when it could endanger her life. Jericho, too, was extremely loyal--a trait I love in characters, and his grumpiness was endearing. The cast of secondary characters, too, was well-written and despite there being several supporting characters, I never once mixed them up or became confused.
PLOT/SETTING The plot was fleshed out well, and Beller did an excellent job describing the settings.
FAITH There is plenty of faith in this book, with the primary focus on trusting God and everyone being made in His image.
Characters pray, discuss God's will and the path He sets each person on, salvation and how to be saved is mentioned, hymns are mentioned, and the Bible is read.
VIOLENCE A character breaks his leg; a bear mauls someone (wound is described); people die from smallpox; the Civil War is mentioned; a mining town is alluded to being rough and unpleasant; a man tries to attack a woman and is permanently dissuaded.
CONCLUSION Healing the Mountain Man's Heart is a sweet tale that will intrigue readers of Christian historical romance.
I thought this was a really good book for its time period. I liked Dinah and how strong she was. The story moves fairly quick and has just the right amount of romance. Loki g forward to more in this series
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK Jericho Coulter holds the family secret close to his heart He is adamant about letting anyone on the property. When two strange ladies showed up at his door, Jericho wasn’t sure what to do. One was a Doctor, but the Coulters wasn’t about to trust her. But when the younger Coulter boy was injured, the family had no choice but to trust him to Dinah. But there was still the lurking question about the Mail Order Bride letter.
I love Misty Beller books and Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is Misty at her best. I was so excited to be able to read and review Book one in the Brothers of Sapphire Ranch. I certainly did enjoy this wonderful story. I love the characters and the way they come to life more and more as I read each page of the story. I love all of the descriptive scenes Beller so beautifully paints on page after page of this fabulous story. Misty M. Beller has that special talent and ability to describe her scenes so well. I love all of Beller’s book, and have read them all so far. I can’t recommend Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart by Misty Beller enough. And as an added special, you have lots of books to choose from after you read this one. I’m giving this book Five Stars and I wish I could give it so many more.

Beller's Brothers of Sapphire Ranch series introduces readers to the Coulters, whose stories I'm excited to read. If you enjoy rugged romance with relatable characters and strong faith elements, add Healing the Mountain Man's Heart to your TBR. 3.5/5 stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Jericho Coulter is the oldest brother and caretaker and protector of his family and ranch. After the death of his parents and sister, he is bound and determined to keep his family safe and their livelihood a secret from all outsiders. He was doing what he thought a good job of it too, until one day twin sisters show up looking for him to marry one of them.
Dinah and Naomi Wyatt have traveled far from Virginia to start a new life after Naomi decided to become a mail order bride to one Jericho Coulter. Dinah is a doctor, and she was not about to let her pregnant sister travel a treacherous way without her and marry a stranger. But when they get to the end of their travels, they find out Jericho never placed that add. Reluctantly and due to his brother's injury, he lets the ladies stay with them.
Jericho and Dinah begin to get to know each other, Jericho the protector and Dinah the healer, and feelings develop. They face many trials together and their love for one another grows stronger. However, Jericho is set in his ways about protecting the family and ranch even against some of his brothers' suggestions and their wishes. Dinah will not give up her profession as a doctor no matter what the cost. Can these two realize how much they need one another and can be stronger together?
What a great start to a new series. I am looking forward to seeing all of the brothers meet their matches, and that is quite possible when the truth comes out about who sent in the advertisement for a mail order bride for older brother Jericho.
This was a beautiful romantic adventure story of two people falling in love against their own wishes. I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
“Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart” by Misty M. Beller is a historical romance set in the Montana Territory during the 1800s. The story centers on Jericho Coulter, the eldest of six brothers, who is dedicated to protecting his family and their hidden sapphire mine. He is determined to keep outsiders away to safeguard their secret. However, when Dinah Wyatt, a skilled and determined doctor, arrives at their ranch accompanying her twin sister—who believes she’s there as Jericho’s mail-order bride—Jericho’s plans are disrupted. Dinah’s medical expertise becomes invaluable when one of Jericho’s younger brothers is seriously injured, leading to her extended stay at the ranch. As Dinah and her sister become more involved in the Coulter family’s life, a romantic tension develops between Jericho and Dinah. Both must confront their personal barriers and learn to trust each other, discovering that the most significant treasures are often found within
This story is a sweet romance. There is a lot faith and religion throughout the story. Family is important for both main characters. I enjoyed watching both main characters and their families come together. There wasn't a lot of drama, which was nice.
Sweet tale of six brothers who take in a woman doctor and her pregnant sister. I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the other brothers' stories.
3.5 it’s been a minute since I read a historical romance and this one was good!! Left on a bit of a cliffhanger though so definitely going to continue the series
I have been following Misty Beller for a number of years. I try to never miss one of her books. I am always excited to start a new series that she has written. Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is the first book in her Brothers of Sapphire Ranch series. I have always been fascinated by the early women doctors. I was happy to see a woman doctor as one of the main characters in Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart. Dinah kind of reminds me of Dr. Quinn from the old tv show Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. I appreciated the faith and trust Dinah and her sister Naomi placed in God. They truly relied on Him to help solve the problems in their lives. Dinah and Naomi are twins who are traveling west to escape how they would be looked upon once the community discovered Naomi is pregnant and not married. This book does not reveal the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy. Nor does it explain why the girls were apparently raised by their grandparents. Dinah learned how to doctor by following her Pops on his rounds from a young age. Her plan is to open a clinic in a town once she has Naomi settled with the man who requested a mail order bride. Things get interesting when it is discovered that Jericho’s orphaned niece and nephew put the mail order bride advertisement in the paper and Jericho has no interest in a wife. Naomi and Dinah love the people around them, letting God’s love shine through them. Gradually that light breaks through the tough exterior of several of the brothers. I can’t wait to see where Beller takes the Coulter brothers in future books in this series. While Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is an adult historical fiction novel, there is nothing that would keep it from being added to a K-12 Christian school library. It is appropriate for grades 8 and up. I received a complimentary copy of Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart. This is my honest review.
Healing the Mountain Man's Heart stands as evidence to the artistry of Christian fiction, offering a clean and compelling narrative set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Montana wilderness. With an emphasis on faith, redemption, and love, Beller crafts a story that captures the hearts of readers without compromising its commitment to clean and wholesome storytelling.
At the core of this Christian romance is Jericho Coulter, a character whose gruff exterior conceals a tender heart burdened by duty and past regrets. Dinah, the whip-smart and compassionate doctor, brings a ray of light and love to Jericho's secluded world, creating a tale that beautifully balances sweet moments with the core tenets of the Christian life.
Beller masterfully portrays the challenges of frontier life, intertwining themes of faith and compassion. The interaction between characters reflects not only the ruggedness of the Montana wilderness but also the purity of their convictions. In a genre often plagued by unnecessary complexities, Healing the Mountain Man's Heart stands out as a clean and uplifting read that doesn't compromise the depth and authenticity of its characters.
Misty M. Beller demonstrates her unique ability to deliver a powerful Christian romance, leaving readers eagerly anticipating more wholesome stories from the Brothers of Sapphire Ranch series.
The audiobook version of this story beautifully enhances the narrative's brilliance, immersing listeners in this wilderness tale, adding an auditory dimension to the already exceptional storytelling!
Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is the first book in the Sapphire Ranch series. If the rest are anything like this one I’m going to love this series. Dinah and her twin sister Naomi are headed west to start a clinic for Dinah, who is a doctor, and for Naomi to be a mail order bride. They just happen to run into her soon to be husband but he tells them they are wrong and he never advertised for a bride. Through an accident the ladies stay at the Coulter ranch while Dinah helps heal one of the brothers. Adventure and sweet romance and finding God. What more could you want? This was a wonderful book, with wonderful, strong characters you fall in love with.
What a great start to a series! The only things I would change would be to add more about the sapphire mine and Naomi’s history to this book. I felt like I needed more information about where/how/when they found the mine. I’m sure all of this will come in other books in the series so I can’t wait to read more.
I really enjoyed Dinah’s story. She is such a strong female doctor in a time when that profession mostly belonged to men. Jericho is such a good match for Dinah. His only downfall is he is extremely protective of his family. With help from his brothers and Dinah, he learns to lean on God and realizes he can’t always be there to protect them every minute and finally loosen his grip on them. This book I full of faith, friendship, family, and secrets. I can’t wait to read more of the series.
This was a fun entertaining audio book with great characters that have relationship with God. I love the Coulter family and the feminine impact Dinah and Naomi have on them. It had a lot of Christian themes so it was a feel good read and inspirational too. It also had a sweet romance. With cute moments between MC. I like that it wasn’t insta love. I loved responsible, gentle, protective, serious Jericho. And tough, hard working, smart, sweet Dinah. Dinah was basically a Wild West super woman. And Jericho was her cowboy Lois Lane. And bc Dinah was a doctor, you learn a lot about diseases and injuries that frequently occurred in 1868 Wild West. Yeah nasty stuff. She is one tough cookie. The narrator did a great job too.
SPOILERS and book notes: Fall 1868 Rock creek Montana territory Coulter family: 6 brothers (Jericho, Jonah, Jude, Gil, Samson, miles) and a niece Lilian and a nephew Shawn of a sister Lucy who ran off and died. Then Dinah the doctor who saved Jonah’s the second oldest life and Naomi her twin who is pregnant and answered jerichos supposed mail ordered bride. Dinah is going to turn these cowboys into civilized men with some manners! Hehe and put a woman’s touch and cleanliness in their farm house. Two stones (an Indian) is their friend or “brother”. And he is a Christian! The coulter dad converted him. Hehe he totally takes her suggestion for a dog and he doesn’t want to but he does anyway bc it’s a good idea. Hehe he is totally falling for her. She is turning their house into a home! Jericho slept in front of her door at the inn to protect her and he knows native tongue. Oooooo they shared THE sweetest kiss at only 60%! And they admitted their feelings! Then he said “I don’t really know where to go from here…. Do I court you?” Her smile turned sweet a little shy. “That would be nice.” He eased out a breath.” AWWWW SO STINKIN SWEET! And she already knows about the secret satires!! I love it! She gives him a hair cut hehe. Awwww this proposal is everything! He proposed after she asked where she would sleep on the ranch and she said “that depends on how you answer my previous question”. And with a growl he pulled her to him and said “with me woman. Always with me. You can plant our bed in what ever house you wish as long as you are there by my side.” Then he kissed her!!! Jericho is so gentle and fiercely protective! Bonus epilogue!!! Definitely reading that.
One of the best qualities I love about this author is how she describes the scenery so perfectly in her stories. I opened this book and immediately was transported back to 1868 in Montana. It was easy to visualize the vivid blue sky as the sun gave hints of warmth. I was ready to hop aboard with the characters and experience their journey.
Dinah and Naomi are traveling to meet the man who has sent for Naomi. Being a mail order bride was well known during this time period. Naomi has made traveling difficult for her and Dinah as they are far away from home. Naomi is six months pregnant and the journey is taking a toll on her body. They better hurry and find the ranch quickly before Naomi develops complications from her pregnancy. I can’t imagine traveling by horse for days on the dusty trail. The horse is not very comfortable and you can tell Naomi is feeling the effects of the journey. Good thing Dinah decided to take the trip with her.
Jericho is a presence to be reckoned with. He has his hands full running the ranch, looking out for his niece and nephew and many brothers. His mission is to guard his family and allow no strangers on his ranch. He is shocked to learn that Naomi was here to marry him. Well that is a funny story but readers will have to discover that for themselves. When one of the brothers is severally injured Dinah takes over his care. I think Jericho was surprised to learn that Dinah is a doctor. He has allowed the women to stay at the ranch for a bit but I don’t think they should get very comfortable .
One of the most impactful and emotional scene for me was when Dinah and Jericho went to the Native American campsite to help with the outbreak of smallpox. A disease that we are blessed not to worry about today was deadly for some in the earlier years. I loved how the author described what Dinah was able to do to protect those who had not gotten yet. Medicine in those days were just beginning to see promise and Dinah was well versed in the disease. As she is trying to help a small child she tells Jericho, “A mother is the heart of a family. If she loses hope, so does everyone else.”
As the days pass the women become more like family and you can see a change in Jericho. I loved how the family prayed for his healing when he became ill with smallpox. Dinah stays near him to make sure he recovers. There begins to be a spark of chemistry between the two. There is a part in the story between Dinah and Jericho that was a little bit uncomfortable for me. I will say the author didn’t take it too far but you can sense the underlying attraction growing deeper between them.
The story does have many wonderful moments where forgiveness become important in the story. I was quite curious what was so secretive about the strawberries the brothers tended to. It is very intriguing and gives the characters a lesson in trust. Jericho is faced with a difficult situation that only God can help him with. Will he allow God into his live and fully trust Him?
I loved how the author gives us a look at how important a doctor was in those days. Dinah knows God has called her to help others, but her heart is torn. What will she decide? Does Naomi deliver a healthy baby? Do Jericho and Dinah declare their love for each other or do they part ways? All these answers are waiting for readers to discover. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
“The Lord always takes care of His children, though it doesn’t always happen the way we expect it to. God knows what we need. He’s never late.”
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart is a sweet historical fiction novel that you’re going to love reading and keeping on your shelf. It starts out like you would think. A mail-order bride novel. Only, it’s not the normal one. Because this groom doesn’t want a bride, he didn’t ask for a bride, etc.
Dinah is a doctor who accompanies her sister out to Montana to be a mail-order bride. The sister is supposed to be the bride. But what happens when Dinah starts being attracted to the prospective groom? That is after first impressions and her immediately setting out to save his brother’s life.
YEAP, YOU START OUT WITH SOME ACTION! This novel reads super quickly and you’re not going to want to put it down. Plus you’re going to want to keep it on your shelf so you can re-read it later. It is after all book one in a new series!
I do have to say that I adore this author. I’ve read all of her books. I read them as soon as they are released. This is because I know that her books are going to be amazing historical fiction novels!
Have I mentioned that I love sapphires? They’re in my wedding ring! And most of my jewellery features them. So I was very interested in the Montana sapphire mines and though I did know that they were a thing I also had to do more research on them because I was so curious!
I absolutely cannot wait to read the next book in this series!

This book is the first in a new series that I’m eager to read. Readers are introduced to Dinah Wyatt, a determined and self-assured doctor who is assisting her sister in locating Jericho Coulter. She was his mail-order bride. Dinah is adamant about following in her father's footsteps and starting a clinic to do what she does best—helping others heal.
I admire how this author transports readers back in time to exciting excursions in the untamed mountains of Montana Territory. The 1800s frontier lifestyle intrigues me. It was a time when there were no modern amenities, people had to rely on one another for medical care while living off the land. This tale shows readers how they survived winters, and how they were able to cultivate their own food.
I like how the author avoids being overly descriptive about how the doctor interacts with her injured patients while yet allowing the reader to experience this time and all the care that goes into treating bear attacks, snake bites and illnesses. She masterfully and naturally weaves in the message of faith, forgiveness, and love. This is a wonderful escape and one that works well for a book club pick.

Jericho Coulter is the reluctant but loving uncle to his sisters to orphan children Lillian and Sean. He’s also the protective uncle and older brother to six younger brothers so when he sees two travelers coming up the road he goes to greet them so he can quickly turn them around on their way. Dena and Naomi Wyatt arrive on Sapphire Mountain thinking Naomi is going to marry Jericho, well as long as Dena finds him to be an appropriate gentleman for her pregnant sister. After all they traveled all the way from Virginia expecting her to be his mail order bride. The only problem is Jericho has no idea who placed the ad and after Dena has to give emergency assistance to Jonah Jericho‘s little brother who broke his leg and is unconscious, Jericho feels obliged to let the two ladies rest up before they journey back but Jonah will not be the only one who needs Dena‘s assistance in through the treacherous ordeal Jericho does start to have feelings but it isn’t for the pregnant Naomi and to make matters even sweeter Dina starts to have feelings for him as well. Where does this leave sweet Naomi and how will the sisters make future plans when Dena‘s heart keeps leaning towards staying with Jericho. Especially when Jericho keeps saying he doesn’t want to be married? Like most of Misty M Bellers books this book is full of sweet romance the love of God and there’s always as well RESEARCH this is the first book in her sapphire mountain trilogy and I cannot wait for the next. I am a big fan of her books and highly recommend this one or any other book she has written. I totally love her books so much! Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
