I could have any woman I want…

Except Patty Sanders.

She is off-limits, not only because she is my hockey team’s new assistant physical therapist. She is also the coach’s daughter.

Getting in between the sheets with her, could cost me my career on the ice.

So, I’ll settle for being in the friend zone, if it means I get to be around her. But the more time we spend together, the more the lines we’ve drawn begin to blur.

Especially when Patty asks me to be her date to her cousin’s wedding. One minute we’re dancing and the next she’s in my arms asking me for one night.

One night before everything goes back to normal— like it never happened. But for me there is no going back.

Can I convince Patty I’m more than just a one time player?

When I tell you that I’m a big fan of surprise pregnancies, I am not lying and when I saw that this book had this trope, I was very excited and didn't disappoint, it is one of those pregnancies that although not expected, sees the growth of the characters while they are in that stage.

I loved Evan and Patty, this feeling of forbidden love they had, since she is not only the daughter of the coach of the hockey team where Evan plays but she is also part of the team's medical staff and as part of their contracts there can be no relationship more than the professional one, they know it and yet they become friends and you could say "best friends" but we see Evan being so attentive and there for her that I loved it. To see how their story went from friends to lovers and when Patty gets pregnant there were some things that didn't add up for me although I completely understand her point of view as well as how she deals with everything was very good to read.

It was a good story, quick to read but I have to admit that the first one is still my favorite and I loved seeing this couple again and seeing them finally have their wedding as they deserve. Now we wait for the third one who seems to be a single father and we LOVED that.

Thanks to R.C. Stephens & Greys Promo for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review 📚!!

The texts between Evan and Patty were my favorite. I loved that they had a genuine friendship that feelings developed and that it wasn't insta-love. I felt like the conflict from her past relationship as well as the drama with her cousins resolved rather quickly. The only real conflict was the forbidden aspect, but even that seemed to be a quick resolve and blow over. Overall cute.

One Time Player is the second book in the new Player Series by R.C. Stephens, featuring a fun forbidden love/coach’s daughter romance for Evan and Patty. Both Patty and Evan have been hurt in the past, so they try to ignore the attraction burning between them and focus on the close friendship they’ve built since she began working as the assistant PT for her dad’s hockey team. The non-fraternization policy looms over them like a thief ready to steal their jobs if they cross the line. After accompanying her to her cousin’s wedding, she asks him for just one night. Can he convince her that they can have it all?

I couldn’t help but fall in love with Evan! He’s a little bit broken, but full of sweetness and plenty of spice! I loved the way he bulldozed his way into a friendship with Patty, and the way that evolved over time through banter, conversation, and normal hangouts. Both their backstories brought out protective emotions in me, and I was rooting for them through all the angst and will-they-or-won’t-they drama! Patty was much easier to connect with once I knew a little more about her, making her reservations about relationships make sense. I really just wanted to hug her and be her friend! All the friends and teammates add to the fun of the read and the found family vibe of the series as well. It was great to see more of Liam, Skylar, and Crew. The story was interesting from start to finish, with a couple of twists for good measure. And look out when Evan and Patty finally give in to those sparks! It gets pretty steamy!!🔥🔥 I’m totally hooked on this series, and can’t wait to see whose story comes out next!!

I received a free ARC, and am leaving this review voluntarily.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The second book in the series brings together Patty and Evan, their story was a lot of fun to read. This is a slow burn which I really liked. The team have been given instructions to stay away from the coach's daughter Patty but it is too late to deny the chemistry between them. I liked that after a bumpy start they became friends who looked out for each other. The slow change to lovers felt inevitable but when Evan turns on the charm how could she resist him. The flirting leads to sneaking around and keeping secrets which gives another element to the romance. I loved how into her he was, he was sweet attentive and protective. The story was fun romantic and spicy with two characters you can't help liking. This is turning into a great series, I am looking forward to Connor's book next.

Book two in the Players series, One Time Player is the story of Evan and Patty. It's a forbidden romance/coach's daughter story and man did I enjoy reading this one. They both have overcome so much and watching these two fall for one another was so cute. You could read this as a standalone, but I would recommend reading them in order to get a better understanding and more background on the characters.

I am loving this series. I do love a forbidden romance and Coach's daughter is just the perfect spot. Evan and Patty's story was amazing. Both having to overcome obstacles and insecurities. This book was one I couldn't put down and can't wait to see what comes next in this world.

I thought this was a cute story. I liked the friends to lovers aspect of the plot because it really helped build trust in their dynamic considering the relationship problems Patty & Evan went through in the past. Their friendship was important especially for the ending.

The second book in the series, and for all the reasons Patty and Evan should not be together, there are more why they should. After a bumpy start, instructions to stay away from the new assistant PT, coach's daughter, Patty, and the decision to stay friends, will the chemistry win? As the two overcome obstacles, and insecurities, Evan will have you swooning. I loved their story and can not wait for the next one.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

I just loved this story! Evan and Patty are both total sweethearts, and are absolutely adorable together. Patty and Evan are attracted to each other but are trying to abide by the team’s no fraternization rule. Thus they become friends and eventually something more. I enjoyed reading about past and future characters and really like how supportive their friends and family are.

I received a free advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my fair and honest review.

I'm tickled pink because RC Stephens has brought back all of my favorite things about her writing in this book. I first "found" RC when I read her Westfall U series, and books 1 and 2 were my downfall for her, her writing, and her stories. I then read Flynn and Myles' story, as well as Flynn's brother Oli's story, which were a totally different location, story and feel from Westfall. I mention that because here in this new series, she has those two series collide! I read book 1 in this series a couple months back and I really enjoyed it, but here in book 2, Patty is the FMC and her parents are Flynn and Myles, while Evan went to Westfall with Rebel and Wolfe (the main characters from book 1 of the Westfall U series), sooooo you see, there's so much crossover happening here and I love it.

Now, that all said...

I love Evan. I love him so much. He's such a sweetheart and so genuine. He's the thing that book boyfriends are made of. And then Patty is the entire package. We got to know her quite a bit in Skylar's book (book 1) and how their story was intertwined, and how selfless Patty is as well as giving and just a really amazing person. So we already loved Patty from book 1. So to understand why she won't let love into her life beyond what we already know -when we learn why- ugh it breaks your heart. You just want to go to bat for Patty. And here's Evan, just all sweet and swoon worthy. Ugh, it's just a whole thing.

Their story starts with attraction but is really about friendship, and I really love it. But their chemistry is envious. It's so delicious. And then the trajectory of their friendship and consequent relationship... mmm so good. I hate giving away spoilers, and I often don't even read the tropes of a book before reading the book because I want to experience the surprise plot twists, so if you can, I recommend NOT reading the tropes here. I didn't and I loved the surprises. Of course we know that Patty is Evan's coach's daughter - not a biggy on that one. And we know that this is a forbidden workplace romance, she works for his team, which fiiiiine. That's fine. Not my favorite trope but the characters seem to be more realistic about this than most other books I've read where we have this scenario. But that's it: that's all I'm saying, because letting the other tropes come to the forefront is so satisfying.

Halfway through this book I was all up in my RC Stephens feels - I felt like she'd brought me back to all of the reasons why I first fell in love with her writing, all the way back to books 1 and 2 of Westfall. And by the end of this book... well, first off, this book ended way too soon. I would definitely have enjoyed more pages! Let me just say that - seeing Evan at the end... omg. Just omg. ... Anyway, I digress, I was saying... oh yes, she brought me back to all my favorite things and by the end of this book I was so enthralled in the story that I didn't want it to end. Love it!

If you are looking for co-workers to friends to lovers that is also a really slow burning and a totally FORBIDDEN romance, then One Time Player is definitely the book for you!! The forbidden element makes this book even better too because we know how forbidden goes! When Patty Sanders is hires as an assistant physical therapist for the Rangers Hockey team it’s a know fact that she is the daughter of the teams coach. Evan Hayworth is unaware of who the woman is when he comes into the team facility looking for a session with the physical therapist prior to practice. To his surprise, Evan quickly realizes that it’s his coach’s daughter and definitely off limits to him or any other team member.

From the first time Patty treated him there were sparks between them. Ignoring what she felt, Patty basically “friend zones” Evan from the start, much to Evans displeasure. Both Evan and Patty seem to be on the same page about relationships, especially since they’ve both been in one that ended badly. Trying to help get Evan back into the game Patty invites Evan out for the evening and it’s anything but a success. Evan couldn’t keep his thoughts and eyes from Patty. As the semester ends, they each go their separate ways for the summer with Patty traveling abroad. While abroad, Patty and Evan become really close through texts and phone calls. Even though they are far apart they continue to get closer and becoming best friends.

The problem is that best friends don’t have thoughts about being more than best friends. And while they both seem to be controlling those thoughts Patty finds herself in a tough situation when her friend’s wedding will have her seeing her ex. Asking Evan to be her date to squash any chance that the ex will approach her. All goes well until the encounter with her ex occurs and secret comes out. Removing Patty from the situation, Evan and her end up leaving acquiescing to a torrid, intimate night together. It’s at this time Evan knows that he is in love, but Patty wants no part of forever.

Things get complicated and Patty puts a barrier between them. In spite of what her feelings are this has created a problem for not only her but also Evan and her dad. With the decision made she begins to extract herself from this dilemma.

The only question is what is next for Evan and Patty?
Just wish there had been more hockey!!

Oh Evan Hayworth... I don't think this man could be any more perfect for Patty than he is.

One Time Player is the second book in The Player series by R.C. Stephens- and while Evan and Patty's story is complete with a HEA I do recommend reading the first book in the series, if you haven't already, just for some background understanding of situations and relationships.

4.5 ⭐

This book was such a fun read while also having some emotional punches woven throughout as well. Patty and Evan have this kind of magnetic pull toward each other- but a relationship outside of friendship is completely off limits not only because of the no fraternization policy that the Rangers have in place but because Patty is also the coaches daughter. But with Patty's life going through some growing pains and Evan's recent heartbreak, all the reasons they shouldn't doesn't seem stop Evan when he decides that he is going to be Patty's friend. It's almost like a puppy that wants to play- you try over and over to say no but it's just so cute that you can't help but give in- that was basically Evan wedging himself into Patty's life and inner circle, which was fun simply sweet, adorable and at times hilarious to witness.

As much fun as the budding friendship between these two was- there are also some more somber/heavy moments. Patty's view on relationships is very well known but the why of it all had never been revealed. Bit by bit her heartbreak and trauma is revealed making my heart ache for the broken young girl she was and simply knowing that Evan's protective sweetness was the perfect escape for her to grow and heal.

I personally loved the build of the not only the friendship here but the tensions between them as well. They truly do not cross the line of friendship for a LONG time. It's definitely a "he falls first" situation and Evan knows he can't push too hard because of how skittish Patty is about relationships in general but also with all the consequences looming over them. And for the dramatic turn that the storyline took, the story itself isn't actually all that drama filled. It felt like moments where things could go completely awry were met with a calm understanding and love- which I kind of loved because I wasn't in a mood to be immersed in a big angsty situation. I'm not saying there weren't some dramatic tensions or anything like that but more lighthearted and easily dealt with moments.

Now these two are off in the land of love and bliss and I'm ready for the next book to be here!

I'm falling down the hockey romance rabbit hole and I don't ever want to find my way out. One Time Player was everything I was expecting and more. We always want the ones we can't have, and Evan & Patty's story is no different. This forbidden romance was captivating, romantic and overall consuming but beautifully written all together.

Patty finally got the job she wanted. She gets to be an assistant physical therapist for the local hockey team. A team her father is the head coach for. She swore off all relationships because of something that happened to her in the past so working with HOT hockey players will be a piece of cake. That is until Evan walks through her office door needing help. He doesn't back down, saying how much he wants her and needs her. But he will settle for just friends if that is all she's willing to give.

Honestly, I'm not usually a fan of surprise pregnancy tropes but the way R.C. Stephens wrote this I was completely wrong in my judgement of this trope and need to read more of it. It was beautifully inserted into the story where I was on the edge of my seat needing to know what was going to happen. But besides that, I loved how much of a gentleman Evan was. He was always thinking about Patty and making sure she was okay even if they were only friends. And the way he was just there for her was admirable. And Patty is a strong FMC that doesn't need a man in her life, but with Evan there makes everything better. I loved how much these two grew throughout the story and the chemistry they had. I know I wouldn't be able to hold off as long as they did.

Thank you, R.C. Stephens and Grey's Promo, for an ARC of One Time Player. I really enjoyed this book and glad how you portrayed these characters and of course hockey. I can't wait to see what else you have coming in this series because I have a feeling, I know I'm going to love it!

I was so excited to finally read Patty’s story. She was such a devoted aunt in the first book, but never dated herself - so I knew there had to be more to the story! She just started working for the team as a therapist and on day one Evan wanders in needing assistance - he’s feeling down after a night of drinking because he discovered his ex- was cheating on him with a much much older man. Patty invited him out to the clubs that night with her and her friends to get his mind off of things.

Evan was kind of over the party scene. He definitely had decided he needed a partner, just hookup after hookup. Everyone else felt like he was still hung up on his ex- but truly he just didn’t want casual anymore. Over the course of the off season, he continued to rally to Patty. They started to actually be friends. Once she returned home, they started hanging out. Just as friends. But the tension between the two of them grew, and with a very strict no fraternization policy, they both did their best to not act upon anything.

Until that first kiss.. and then things got difficult. Once they both had the best kiss of their life - they started having more awkward hangouts (only because they wanted each other so badly). Over time they find hidden times to be together, but it isn’t enough. Evan wants to date Patty openly without risks of losing their employment. With some candid conversations with the GM, things were kind of up in the air.

I really want to love this story. I enjoyed it. But it was just fine. Evan loved Patty so much, but she kept him out of the loop frequently which I struggled with. I enjoyed learning about patty’s past and why she was so closed off to love before.

Sweet sweet Evan

Evan is a real sweetheart. His past is complicated and kind of sad and his last failed relationship scraped at his self confidence.
When he first meets Patty he immediately screws up. But after some groveling, being persistent and proving himself they become friends.
Patty doesn't want to be his friend at first but Evan makes it hard for her to resist.
After a while she confides more in him than in her other friends.
But sure enough along the way and a few little incidents, attraction gets in their way.
And from attraction to more. Secretly of course, because they can't be.
But your heart doesn't care about boundaries and contracts. Now they have a lot to consider and try hard to hold on to their friendship.
Only, nothing is easy and Evan and Patty suddenly find themselves at a point to make some hard decisions.
I loved Evan, Patty and her family. Isn't Coach Sanders someone you want to have in your corner? I felt for Patty and her personal traumatic relationship years ago. She built walls very high and gave herself a personality of being free and having fun only.
Evan got over his last disaster of a relationship, thanks to Patty. But he realizes that he wants more than casualness and meaningless. But to convince Patty is more than hard work.
How they managed to work each and every obstacle and insecurity out was truly adorable. It took time, slowly build trust and the support of the Sanders family to achieve that goal, but the outcome was perfect, sweet and I rooted for it.

Swoon-inducing friends to lovers sports romance
One Time Player (The Player Book 2) by R. C. Stephens is packed with all kinds of hunky hotness on top of intriguing tropes. Evan and Patti are an engaging couple and made more interesting by the friends to lovers element. Add in the heat of any relationship between them being taboo, the excitement of hockey, slow burn chemistry and a guarded heart.
Evan and Patti burrowed right into my heart and I could not read their story fast enough. Patti was put through the wringer and experienced an emotional trauma that prompted her to bury her heart, surround it with brick and mortar then wrap it up in barbed wire! Evan is drawn to Patti, even after having his heart broken and pride seriously injured. He follows Patti's lead, and even though she gives him permission to date or hook up with others, he is fed up and disconnected from his player ways. He wants more, a real relationship and he really wants that with Patti.
Overall, Evan is all in despite all the obstacles in their way and eventually wears Patti down. They don't have an easy road and it's fraught with emotional and professional complications. But Evan's determination, persistence, patience and unwavering support will draw you in. Prepare for swoon-worthy declarations, heartfelt pleas, sweetly sentimental moments, steamy encounters and a beautifully promising HEA.
I read an ARC via Valentine Promotions and voluntarily share my review.

I really enjoyed this story!

Patty is a kind, smart recent college grad who gets a job as an assistant physical therapist for the hockey team her father coaches. She knows of a lot of the players on her dads team, so she wasn't surprised when one of them came to visit her early on her first day. When Evan walks in, her heart does a little flutter. She knows she can't date a player on her dad's team. She helps Evan with some personal stuff and invites him out to forget his sorrows. Her and Evan strike up a friendship. Strictly a friendship. No sexy feelings there (haha). When the season is over, she takes a solo trip across Europe, all the while keeping in touch with Evan. They get to know each other well over texts and calls, and when she gets back, he picks her up from the airport, and her heart does another flutter.

Evan can't help but be attracted to Patty. She is beautiful and so much more. He loves having her as a friend and doesn't know what he would do without her.

One "fake" kiss later, both of them start to have more than friends feelings for each other, but they know they can't date, so they continue the friendship.

Patty asks Evan to come as her date to a wedding, where she knows she'll see her ex. Evan ends up sticking up for Patty and one thing leads to another and BAM! they're having the most amazing night together. Many weeks and awkwardness later, that little plus sign appears. Patty is freaked out because of something that happened in her past, but once she tells Evan and he proves he's there for her, she relaxes and takes life in strides. Evan and Patty prove that friends can become lovers and live happily ever after with a little family in tow.

I love sports romances and when I find an author who can bring together a great storyline, engaging characters that bring all the emotions and sizzle in a sports related setting I’m excited and happy.

Reading books by R.C. Stephen’s definitely make me happy! Evan is sexy and sweet, and he definitely induced some swooning and panty melting. He builds this strong bond and protective steak with Patty and pushes his way into becoming friends with her. Patty had a traumatic relationship at 18 that completely changed her perspective on what she wanted in life and she’s been anti-relationships ever since. She’s intrigued and attracted by Evan, but she’s strong willed and determined to keep him in the friend-zone.

Chemistry dooms their friendship to expand beyond the friend-zone (yeah!) and even though a relationship between them is forbidden due to the team’s non-fraternization policy these two struggle to contain themselves. I loved how their friendship grew and became so strong.

I enjoyed both Patty and Evan in book 1 of the series, and was expecting to see a bit more of Liam, Skylar and Crew in this book, but it definitely kept the focus on what was developing between Evan and Patty and showed Patty to have a bigger, more expansive support group.

I received a free ARC from the author and Grey’s PR; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book, provided by Grey's Promotions. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I adored Evan and Patty's story! We got hints of their situationship in the first book, but all the juicy details are here! Patty gets a job as a physical therapist, working for her dad's hockey team. All the players are warned to not hit on her, but it's too late. Evan already has! In his defense, he didn't know it was Patty he wolf whistled. They strike up the sweetest friendship, hanging out, getting to know each other. You know where this is going, right?

Patty has a horrible experience in her past that makes her antsy with romantic relationships, so she swears off anything past friendship. Evan takes spending time with Patty anyway he can get it. This was a definite slow burn, and it was expertly handled! Getting to know one another leads to catching feelings, and they fight it until they just can't anymore. But what comes next binds them together with Patty's biggest fear and something Evan never saw coming.

I love that they built their relationship on a friendship first. Patty has such a kind heart, and she deserves the best - and that's Evan. Their family and friends were also supportive (for the most part) and that had the possibility of consequences. However, that was worked through. I really enjoyed this book a lot!

I loved Evan in the previous books from Westfall U. I'm so glad he got his story. His is in the NHL and playing his heart out. He is devastated because he caught his longtime girlfriend cheating on him.

Patty is ready to take the next step in her career and has taken the temporary position as the Ranger's assistant physical therapist. She bumps into Evan on her first day and is attracted to him instantly. Evan suddenly noticed how attractive Patty was but knew she was off limits because she was the Coach's daughter and she worked for the Rangers Organization. They are both aware of the non-fraternization policy and decided to become friends.

They became fast friends with Evan's persistence and got to know each other during the post season break. This developed into more attraction and more sizzle, but they ignored it because they became good friends. This is a truly great story of friends to lovers, forbidden romance. It's so nice to see characters we know and love from Westfall U. I love how these series are interconnected.

Ms. Stephens creates a wonderful world and the characters are so fun to read about. Can't wait to see who is going to meet their HEA next!

I received an advanced copy for my honest opinion.

I absolutely loved One Time Player. It is the perfect friends to lovers, forbidden sports romance! Evan and Patty both have pasts that have shaped their current life choices or in Evan’s case, him trying to figure out exactly what he wants. Patty has a new job with the team and that means she’s off limits, especially since she is also coach’s daughter. Evan and Patty start off on the wrong foot, but slowly Evan wins Patty over with his persistence and the two form a friendship. However, the more they get to know each other and spend time together, the harder it is for Evan to ignore his feelings. He will take whatever he gets with Patty, but he knows what he wants. Patty is is determined to get her life on track and that means sticking to her plan, however the ever persistent Evan throws her off that track. Patty is starting to open up, but will her last stop her from having what she really wants! One Time Player takes us on a journey of friends to lovers that will have you hooked from the start and curious to see what happens between Evan and Patty. Add in the few shocks and surprises that will break your heart and put it back together, you won’t get enough of these two. I loved Evan and he will steal your heart with his swoon worthiness!

Evan is a Hockey player and Patty is the new Physiotherapist for the team and she also happens to be the coaches daughter.
They have a connection as soon as they meet and like I said they spark up a friendship, opening up to one another with ease...But the friendship also seems to ignite an attraction and when the sexy times happen these two are so HOT and Steamy !!
Its really swoonworthy the way Evan and Patty interact with eachother and slowly but surely they both begin to feel like there is more than just friendly feelings between them.
They have so much chemistry it seeps through the pages.
But a relationship between them would be forbidden because they both work for the same team.
I really enjoyed reading this story and it had some surprises too ,that made the story even better...R,C Stephens has written a beautifully romantic story which is so much fun to read with characters you love and adore and cheer for.
Fantastic book.

One Time Player by R. C. Stephens is a sports romance that has friends to lovers, friends acting as plus ones, forbidden aspect between the team’s physical therapist/coach’s daughter & one of the players as well as a steamy one night stand. It has one specific trope that is a spoiler but I would recommend checking out that I will place under content warnings just in case.

This is a story with a rocky start to this pair, but then I was endeared with their chemistry, banter & obvious spark.
The beginning was a bit tough for me but something about it held my curiosity enough that I kept reading & I am glad I did.

There were a few spots that still felt a little clunky to me is the only way I can describe it in my severe brain fog state. But once I moseyed on by those times, I would get back into the story. I also noticed several repeated sentences. The ending is super quick, but I do appreciate a happily ever after.

Thank you to Grey’s Promo for the gifted arc, which I voluntarily read & reviewed. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Content Warnings: surprise pregnancy (current), pregnancy loss (from the heroine’s younger years)

Sweet & Spicy

I love hockey romances and R.C. Stephens is one of my 'go-to' authors. OME TIME PLAYER, book #2 in The Player series, was a fun, sweet, and spicy romance that had a touch of forbidden about it, and it did not disappoint. This is the story of Evan Hayworth and Patty Sanders.

Forbidden love isn't easy, especially when it's your coach's daughter and a member of the team's medicos. Well, that's the situation Evan finds himself in after partnering Patty to a wedding. Fraternization rules and a 'stay away' warning are not enough to stop Evan. He plans to charm Patty, until she can no longer resist. I adored how he was with her sweet, caring, possessive, and protective, showing her their friendship could become more.

ONE TIME PLAYER was such a fun read, with the minimal amount of drama and angst. It was definitely a 'he falls first' story, and I just loved watching him trying to convince her for more. There are plenty of swoonworthy moments, hot steam, and heartfelt declarations. R.C. Stephens has captured my heart once again.

Patty Sanders is not only the new assistant physical therapist but also the coaches daughter. Her dad gave the team a request to treat her with utmost respect as both as a team employee and his daughter. Patty takes Evan out after he caught his girlfriend cheating to help him get over her. That was the night that started a friendship.

Evan is a hockey player on her fathers team and he will settle for being friend zoned so that neither of their jobs are jeopardized. As their friendship grows and the more time they spend together the more the lines between them get blurred. After a night together at her cousin's wedding their lives are changed and there is no going back.

I loved watching Patty and Evan fall in love. I loved how their friendship grew from her saying to we are not going to be friends to becoming best friends. I loved how her family readily welcomes Evan and likes them being together. This was a great and quick read that you can't help but love and even the unexpected twists and turns. I highly recommend it.
