How do you talk to kids about things that scare them? Well, meet our fearless heroes, Buckshot, Bullet, and Ladies Man. They're our Trio of Terror who tackle the most daring of obstacles. In their first appearance they have to battle the Evil Doctor Ponce De Leon and get their ship back, the Yeah Buddy!
To do that they have to lure the evil doctor to a harbor so he docks the ship, otherwise they won't be able to even see it, because it's invisible when it's not docked. These pint sized, fourth grade heroes come up with a crazy plot to trap Doctor Ponce De Leon in Honolulu at a puppy convention. The Evil Doctor keeps puppy napping, but all may not be what it seems, and Ladies Man discovers that there's an ulterior motive for all of Doctor Ponce De Leon's puppy napping.
Come on the adventure with them, and help get the Yeah Buddy! back.
This is a novel that I co-authored with my 9 year old son. The ideas and plot are all his, while the majority of the writing is mine. He sat next to me and guided me along the way. So please note that the vast majority of this was written by a 9 year old fourth grader.
Review
When my son came to me with his idea for this book I looked at it as a way for the two of us to have some good quality time together and we spent a rainy Saturday afternoon writing the entire thing. There are a few illustrations in the book which were drawn by two school friends of my son who are named on the cover as illustrators.
The cover is adorable. I think this is a pretty well drawn boat and I would want to ride on it if it were real. The book starts with the introduction of the three main good guys, Bullet, Buckshot, and Ladies Man. Our fearless heroes are just doing what they do every day until their state of the art ship is stolen by the evil Doctor Ponce De Leon. The evil Doctor is one bad dude with a penchant for puppy snatching. He travels the world over stealing the most adorable and precious puppies and no one knows what happens to them.
The Trio of Terror devise a way to lure the Evil Doctor out in the open so they can rescue the Yeah Buddy! and save the world from puppy disaster. What they discover is that not everyone who is evil is who or what they seem at first glance. There's a reason why Doctor Ponce De Leon steals puppies and the Trio of Terror is conflicted on what to do with the evil fiend.
From the forest of Florida to the shore of California and the white sand beaches of Hawaii the Trio of Terror uses fourth grade logic and superior fighting and stealth skills to battle an evil foe.
I won't give away the ending. Most adults who have read the book have laughed out loud and it is enjoyable for all ages of kids.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did helping to create it.
