In a New York Minute

Rate this book
Garrett Steiner loves his grandmother.
Really.
But when she rents a billboard in the middle of Times Square, hoping to find him a husband, he isn’t so sure anymore. Bad enough everyone at the “Crossroads of the World” thinks he’s a joke—now his face is plastered all over the news. He’s already in enough trouble with the principal of his school, who isn’t thrilled to have a gay teacher. It might be two dateless years since his divorce, but no way is he going to answer any of the thousand emails he’s received.
Except….maybe one. The long-haired man with the soulful eyes.

After the devastating loss of his husband, rock star Remi Angel has hit rock bottom. His career is in shambles and he’s spiraling. Fast.
With the media ready for the next juicy scandal, he leaves the limelight behind to return to his roots and spend time with his beloved grandfather. Seeing Garrett’s billboard ad, Remi sends him an email, figuring nothing will come of it, but hey. At least he’s trying.
Except Garrett does answer, and when they meet, both feel that special spark. It’s terrifying yet wondrous, a combination of desire and hope mixed with fear.

The fear of loving again.
Of coming alive again.
This wasn’t supposed to happen.

But anything can happen in a New York minute…even love.
In a New York Minute is a slow burn, rock star, M/M romance filled with longing, doubt and swoony moments. There are love songs, a secret identity, a wise, bagel-loving grandpa, and an unrepentant bubbe who knows what's best for her grandson.
It answers the once in a lifetime can't happen twice...or can it?

RATING 4.5 STARS

In a New York Minute is a stand alone, MM romance by Felice Stevens. First, I want to say that as soon as I saw this cover, I fell in love. When that happens, I picture that face all the way through the book and it makes it all the more real to me, all the more special. I felt like the cover model was perfect for Remi.

Jeremiah Angelberg, otherwise known as Remi Angel in the music industry, is forty one years old and is a well known rock star. Four years ago Remi lost his husband and he has never recovered. It was love at first sight but the years they had together weren’t enough. They would never have been enough. Since then, he has allowed himself to sink lower and lower, using drugs and alcohol to dull the pain. After the last wild after party after his concert, his manager has had enough. He tells Remi he needs to lay low for awhile and let things simmer down. So Remi goes back to New York to the place that makes him feel the safest, to his grandfather’s house. He needs to finally figure out how to move forward in a healthier way with his life.

Garrett Steiner is thirty seven years old and is a third grade teacher. It’s been two years since his divorce. He was hurt badly by his ex and hasn’t dated since. He doesn’t know if he will ever trust again. But his grandmother isn’t having it and takes out a billboard ad at a hugely busy New York intersection. An ad advertising for a date for her grandson. Of course the news media picks it up! It’s the talk of the town. Garrett would never date someone that answered the ad. But as he weeds through them, there is one in particular that stands out.

When Remi and Garrett meet for the first time, there is something there, a feeling both of them experience. Something neither of them ever thought they’d feel again. But both are still hanging on to the ghosts of their pasts. Garrett is determined to go slow, to get to know Remi, to find out if what they are feeling is something that could last. And of course, Garrett has no idea who Remi really is.

This was such a beautiful story. These two never expected to feel that kind of love again. Both had accepted that they would remain alone. Garrett is also dealing with stress at his school while Remi is trying to figure out how he’ll move forward with his career. So both of their lives were complicated. I thought Felice wrote their love story beautifully. I was trying to figure out if I loved one of them more than the other but really, I think I just adored them both. I love that they discussed EVERYTHING! That they acted like mature adults, talking things through. This is a story of getting a second chance at love when you’d given up. At finding your person, THAT person, that you are meant to be with forever. And having the courage to open your heart again and allow that love to flourish.

“Wherever you are, Remi, I’m with you.”

LOL i don't know how to rate this... so i won't hahaha

this had so much cheesiness, made me roll my eyes so many times haha.

Kale Williams really made this bearable, but sweet god haha

the beginning of the story started out well, a troubled rockstar who is dealing with grief and a school teacher who's grandmother is a tad nosy lol. But holy shit once Remi decided that he had feeling for Garrett, it was like warp speed and they said all the cheesy lines and declarations of love way too fast especially with both of their pasts.

i think my soul has died because all this cheesiness and sappy love made me want to puke haha, or at least it was done in a way that didn't click with me. which is a bummer because i have had a few Felice Stevens books work for me. this sadly was a flop.

I love how Felice Stevens unapologetically writes Jewish men falling in love and fills them with all the cultural notes which makes them such authentic reads.

This one is pure delight, it's a tale of love after both loss and deep emotional betrayal between two men with strong family culture that has held them up and supported them in difficult times.

Both Garrett's Bubbe (grandmother) and Remi's Grandfather are true forces of nature, loving and accepting and there for their grandsons when they truly need them - if only Rose's didn't come along with a billboard in Times Square seeking a loving husband for her beloved grandchild!

This book has subtle humour alongside the romance, there's nods to the prejudices both Jews and gay men can face within their personal and professional lives but it's never overly stated or preachy.

The nods to the song New York Minute, which title the book, are cleverly played out throughout the narrative, where life can change in unexpected ways in such a short time and I adored the more muted and quiet friendship and romance which grows between the two men.

This is an homage to New York as much to love, as is often the case with Felice's work, and I loved the surprise guest appearances towards the end of the book with characters from her wider universe of stories.

There's no stupid drama here, no ridiculous miscommunication or 75% break-up to bring tension, instead the two men talk, they express their fears and hopes, they talk about their dreams.

It's a beautiful story and I loved it all.

This is a heartwarming story where two men who have found love and lost it find a second chance neither expected. Remi and Garrett, the star and the public school teacher, seem to be opposites from the outside, but they share so much in common. And let's hear it for two men who don't play games. They communicate, they listen and they don't jump to hasty conclusions.

I loved their chemistry and the way they got to know each other before acting on it. They were sexy and sweet, and reading their story gave me a feeling of peace. There were some outside issues as both men deal with problems with their careers, but there was no real relationship drama or contrived angst. This wouldn't be a Felice Stevens story without some extended family and friends thrown into the mix and everyone played their parts well - including quick cameos from some favorite characters from a few of the author's other books.

Recommended for anyone looking for a no-angst story between two adults who deserve a second chance at love.

Lightening strike twice. I liked that they took things slow in their relationship, but met each others' families early on. Their declarations of love for each other had me melting!!! Pringle was relentlessly nasty! Grrr... I admired Remi for the compassion he showed Ryan. Inspirational and captivating story.

Garrett Steiner loves his grandmother. Really. But when she rents a billboard in the middle of Times Square, hoping to find him a husband, he isn’t so sure anymore.

Garrett Steiner is a thirty-seven-year-old divorced man who teaches third grade in a New York public school. When his marriage ended two years ago his "Bubbe" (grandmother), decided, (I loved this), to take matters into her own hands by having a billboard put up that broadcasted, in living color all her grandson's best qualities in hopes of finding him a date.

Much to his embarrassment, the billboard became the "talk of the town". Much to his surprise, he gets literally thousands of emails from interested men.... some were rather bizarre, some a bit frightening...but some were ones that, to his surprise, he was actually considering. There finally was only one that stands out, above all the others that more than interested him. It was from a forty-one-year-old widower, Jeremiah Angelberg. They meet...Jeremiah didn't appear to be a serial killer or sleazebag. He was attractive, polite and overall...sweet, polite and interesting...so they go on a date, and things go well enough that they go on several more dates. What Garrett doesn't realize, however, is that Jeremiah is actually Remi Angel, the world-famous singer and songwriter who is unfortunately now more known for his destructive tendencies more than for his music. When Garrett learns the truth will he still want to be with Remi, or will he cut his losses and walk away from him?

What a concept...two adults in a relationship actually communicate!!! Communication leaves little room for assumptions to be made and worst-case scenarios to start forming in their head.... but it usually takes almost the entire book, of any genera, for this to ever, if at all, to take place. One of my "pet peeves". Garrett and Remi both know what it's like to get their hearts broken, but they chose to take a chance at seeing where their connection will take them, and these two have one heck of an undeniable, life-changing connection. The entire communication thing almost eliminates any of the angst. There is a little drama courtesy of Garrett's ex-husband and a principal who has no business being in control of educators and young minds who are only beginning to figure themselves out. I adored Garrett's and Remi's families and those close confidants who only want to see them happy.

Kale Williams as usual, did an excellent job of the voices...even Grandma's.

This got off to a good start and had so much potential. I even read the sample before buying the book and I was enjoying it! Unfortunately the pacing was really weird, and there wasn't really any defining conflict.

The book could have ended at 60% without me even noticing.

A few plot threads are thrown out there and then never touched again. Like Garrett's friends invite them to the concert of one of Remi's industry rivals, Remi agrees to go so he can meet Garrett's friends and then they all go to dinner without mentioning the concert ever again. If they decided not to go, that's cool, but why even bring it up in the first place if it's not going to come up again?

I stopped taking notes after 73% but did pop back in to comment that it had lost the plot and was epically cheesy.

GAH… My heart, with the swooning and heartache, too many tears spilled, yikes, but of so good and you get the happy ending with a big smile. I love Garrett and Remi, two sweethearts meant to be together after they both get heartbroken in different ways then years to find love and happiness, a second chance at finding the love of your life, I’m melting from the sweetness of this story. So so good!! A Must Recommended Read!!

You always know what you are going to get from a Felice Stevens book - a romance between two characters who usually have had some trauma or an obstacle in their past to overcome and normally a strong family supporting them while they grow and find a HEA with their person.
Remi & Garrett are no different in this book - Garrett is recovering from a messy divorce and is still affected by something that happened when he was a child, and Remi is trying (but failing) to get over the death of his husband and spiralling to the extent it’s starting to majorly impact his career and life.
Both have a strong grandparent supporting them - I love these elderly characters that Felice Stevens writes, she creates these supportive elderly characters better than any other author I can think of, it makes me miss my own grandparents.
I don’t think I’ve ever rated one of this author’s books as less than 4/5 and this one is definitely a 5 star read for me. I liked how they both overcame their trust issues with the support of their families, and really liked the dynamic of the main characters being a rockstar & a teacher. This one is another winner in my opinion (and I should also add that superfans of this author will love the Easter egg appearances in the epilogue!)

On reading a snippet of this book it took me back to a scenario a few years ago when a person's relative placed a add on a billboard. I had always wanted to know the back story and the outcome.

-------------------------------------------------------

These two characters, Remi and Garrett story was a joy to read. Both experienced loss of a loved one but in different ways. One to death and the other to divorce. This book is about how they got their second chance at love.

From the get go there was an undeniable attraction between the two, with easy banter and subtle innuendos. There was a sense of comfort and feeling that made it easy for them to open up to each other. I really adore Garrett and Remi, as well as their grand parent.

Towards the end we had some unexpected guess appearances, that was a plus. I like when authors incorporate characters for instances/events of their previous work into current work. It make us think back on previous books and want to read their story.

Overall this story was well written, it's sweet, easy to read and it's a book that I can look forward to reading again.

Felice thank you for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is another great book by the author which I’m fond of. The characters had me glued from page one as they met and as they got to know each other. A boss and employee romance which Hayden has firm rules about going there. But he can't help letting his protective nature step in for Armi. An insta connection which only gets deeper but their trouble ahead in the King's company.

Hayden, 37, was a top PA to company bosses, but when he's fired from his job, he's shocked after all his hard work for Borris. A night out for some sexy time and that's what he gets.

Armand was a similar age, was the owner of a football team and was totally adorable when he met Hayden.
Hayden is exactly who Armi needs especially when he’s bullied at work and play. He may be the owner of his father’s company for a very short time but Hayden has his back from day one when they meet.
A fantastic book to read as Armand learns much more about himself for knowing Hayden. Their romance isn't always smooth but they get their HEA finish. I loved the epilogue for the big game.

This was so sweet and felt like a breath of fresh air. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book were two characters just went on dates and developed a healthy relationship without too much unnecessary drama. I did like the first half a lot more and felt like it got too cheesy at the end but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Garret and Rémi were fab

I loved getting to know these two men individually and as a couple. Remi had lost his husband and was on a downward spiral. Garrett’s was a little lost and lonely after divorcing his husband. Grandma had a solution. A solution that got him on the radar of thousands of people all over New York. He was the center of attention for five days and beyond.

There were many other characters to fall in love with outside of Remi and Garrett. There was grandma grandpa mom dad brother and sister in law. From there first meeting and connection. To there first dinner and the past coming to intrude on a beautiful moment. There were many things that took us on a journey with these two men. Meeting the family and bringing them all together.

I could see myself picking up In a New York Minute again.

Lovable characters!

I really liked these characters. They were completely lovable, and I adored the way they met. Both Remi and Garrett have suffered from different kinds of loss in regards to their marriages. I enjoyed how they worked on bettering themselves and creating a strong relationship. The stars of the story were their grandparents. Garrett's Bubbe and Remi's grandfather were hilarious and added so much heart to the story. A great read.

Too fluffy and not realistic but cute

Like, Rémi going cold turkey after years of alcohol and weed abuse without any withdraw? Or one after party goes wrong and he goes home without having to cancel his tour or incoming concerts or stuff?
Garrett’s face and personal info is on a billboard in Time Square and no one recognizes him in real life and harass him or whatever even after being on the news?

So yeah, sweet and all but too much fictional I guess

I have no idea how someone takes the most adorable premise and spins it into the world’s boringest book. It was chock full of stilted dialogue and weak banter. The MCs were also an absolute snooze. Every time a character opened their mouth, they’d spill out their entire life story with an awkward amount of unnecessary details. I haven’t read anything else by this author so not sure if this was a one off or not. 🥴

This is bad. Dumb as f**k. The dialogue is horrible and the story is lame. Especially the rock star character. The first scene with him is so ridiculous it’s not even worth reading.

Garrett, 37 and Remi, 41 are meant for each other. But for neither of them it's their first relationship. “It’s those of us left behind who feel the pain of a loss that never goes away.” (Rose Steiner, Garrett's grandmother) Garrett mourns a marriage that ended two years ago on a very bitter note, as his ex chased the high life and left him for it. Remi, a musician and singer, lost his husband four years ago to a quick and savage illness. Not getting over the loss and grief he spirals out of control. His manager puts him into a time out and suggests half ernest, half jesting that he answer a billboard advertisement.
Garrett's grandmother Rose is worried about her grandson and thinks he should get back into the dating game. So she takes a picture of him and has it plastered on a time square billboard with the request of looking for a boyfriend for her grandson.
So this is the premises and I loved the idea. Garrett is such a sweetheart and I disliked his ex from the get go. Remi was a bit of a double edged sword for me but he has redeeming qualities and even though he omits who he is and why he answered the ad to Garrett he is absolutely willing to talk to Garrett about everything. So brownie points for him. Remi and Garrett are cute together and I enjoyed their banter, even when it was quite a few times on the really cheesy side.
The supporting characters are well developed and have characters of their own. I loved the support from them for both Remi and Garrett. There's a bit of side road drama in Garrett's worklife and even Remi has to deal with a band member leaving and his career getting roadblocked by the music label.
I love the opposite attraction of Remi and Garrett and I can so relate to the homebody of Garrett. 'Garrett began to read, and as usual, he lost track of time. It was when the e-reader fell on his face for the second time that he reluctantly set it on the nightstand and went to sleep.' I want to read more of them.

What happens when you look up and see your picture on a ginormous billboard in Times Square. That’s exactly what Garrett sees thanks to his Jewish Grandmother. Being mortified is the least of his worries. His grandmother loves him and Garrett does what every loving grandson does. He picks a guy and emails him back.
Remi is that guy. He’s an out of control rock star. He’s been spiraling down for four years since his husband died. Out of control drinking and a boatload of bad choices now require him to make better ones.
His manager suggests writing the billboard guy.
Remi does exactly that.
Garrett and Remi are carrying wounds from their past relationships and in slowly getting to know each other they work through their own issues. I absolutely adored both characters. They were believable characters that were so loveable. This was a slow burn story that so worked for the characters.
All the secondary characters were so loveable. Both Garrett’s grandmother and Remi’s grandfather are absolutely a hoot. I loved them.

Gah! Garrett and Remi filled me with so much feelings, it was wonderful! These were two men searching and finding love after each suffering their own losses at love. After their first meeting, you could feel the connection immediately. I loved the unique way in which they met - a billboard as in Times Square, courtesy of Garrett’s grandmother. I loved seeing them get to know each other, and their respective walls coming down and opening their hearts again. Felice Stevens really knows how to write beautifully broken men who go on to find the loves they were meant to have for their HEA. Garrett and Remi’s story is a wonderful example of that. Their story was so refreshingly honest without all the “misunderstandings” or miscommunications to throw drama into the mix. Garrett and Remi had honest and open communication and discussions which made my heart feel full. Their story unfolded at the right pace for them, and I loved their family who were such amazing champions for each of them. This was a wonderful read, and I’m looking forward to reliving this in audio!

This book is amazing! Remi and Garrett have both experienced loss. They find each other after Remi responds to a billboard, courtesy of Garrett’s grandmother, advertising that he is looking for a date. I so enjoyed their journey. It’s a beautiful story of two incredible men getting a second chance at love. Remi has a special relationship with his grandfather and Garrett with his grandmother. I honestly loved everything about this book and couldn’t put it down. There is no real angst, just lots of moments that will make you smile because you’re so happy for them. This is a must read!

Felice’s books and characters are filled with so much depth and emotion that it’s difficult not to get completely lost and immersed in their lives, losses and successes. Garret and Remi both had plenty to overcome in order to get their HEA but together, and with a little familial help, they ended up right where they needed to be. A lovely romance with two deserving main characters who you can’t help but fall in love with.

Book: 3.7
Narration: 5
Enjoyment 4.5 or so

I tell you, the combo of the low grade angst and even tone of the book, and Kale Williams’ narration were excellent! I just had a blast with this story! Just what I wanted! I’ll probably read Ryan’s story next, though that one looks significantly more angsty.

I’m not a huge fan of how touchy/sappy/flowery some of the dialogue in these books is sometimes, but Kale Williams smooths that right out for me!

Also had that song stuck in my head the whole time I was reading this.

I absolutely LOVED that some of the “secrets” between MCs were for their own safety and health and didn’t cause a huge blow up, and they were able to talk about them like adults when the time came. So refreshing!

Garrett is a cis white gay 37 year old Jewish l school teacher. His husband Ryan left him two years ago. Ryan became addicted to drugs and cheated on Garrett during his partying, and refused to stop either when Garrett gave him an ultimatum. He’s close to his grandma, who puts up a dating add for him in Times Square, much to his horror. He’s a bit of a homebody who loves mystery stories and isn’t on social media. His parents died in a helicopter crash over the Grand Canyon because the pilot was drunk and high. He’s a fan of Clark’s mystery books.

Remi is a cis white gay 41 year old rock star. His husband died of cancer 4 years ago and he never processed it and still has a broken heart. He partied and drinks hard enough that his image is suffering. He’s close to his grandpa. His late husband Clark was a sweet guy who wrote mystery novels and liked to garden.

Both guys are romantics who loved being married and having a romantic partner. Their families know this and conspire to get the two of them with a new partner, and they find each other.

Contains:
—gay mc x gay mc
—Jewish mc x Jewish mc
—rockstar x grade school teacher
—minimal rockstar life scenes
—references to drug abuse and cheating by ex-husband
—reference to mc’s past overuse of alcohol and marijuana to numb pain of loss
—reference to death of spouse related to illness
—on page explicit sex scenes
—slow burn romance, but short time period
—has epilogue

Other:
—third person dual POV
—cheating: no
—romantic rival: no.
—kids: not during the course of the book, but vaguely mentioned MCs may want kids together someday
—sex: strict roles. Remi tops and Garrett bottoms.
—HEA: yes.

“Oh, no.” Jeremiah’s smile grew. “I don’t like to share. My candy or anything else. What’s mine is mine.”
The broader meaning behind Jeremiah’s words wasn’t lost on Garrett, and another throb of lust hit him.

He nudged Garrett with his nose, letting the thick curtain of hair shield their faces. “But is it okay if I kiss you again?”

He caught the gleam of satisfaction in Bubbe’s eyes. Now if he could get Garrett to lower his defenses and see his hard-partying days were gone. He wasn’t planning on sharing Garrett. Remi wanted him all to himself.

He took Garrett’s hands. “Sure we skipped to the good part, but now we can take our time and discover the little things about each other we don’t know. Our favorite colors, what snacks you like best, and if you prefer the right or left side of the bed.” He leaned in and nudged Garrett’s blushing cheek with his nose, enjoying the gentle hitch of his breath. “Important stuff like that.”

Felice Stevens and Kale Williams have done it again. This is another really heartfelt story about two men who have been through it!

Garrett and Remi are two men who are alone due to circumstances beyond their control and they have not been in the right place to try again. Remi is dealing with his grief over losing his husband to cancer by not dealing. He’s taken to self-medicating with drugs and alcohol and when things finally get out of hand and the collateral damage involves people who can make things hard for him. His record label is holding back the release of his single and album and his manager tells him to get his act together. He takes a break to spend time with his beloved grandfather.

Garrett was betrayed by his husband who wanted to live the fast life and after spending half his life with the man, he wonders if Ryan ever really loved him or if there was something else that kept him in the marriage 😉 His bubbe is tired of seeing him alone, so she puts up a billboard in Times Square looking for someone to date him. Seriously? Garrett is an elementary school teacher and his a$$hole principal is none to happy to have a gay teacher, let alone one who is now a news story. He loves his grandmother, but he kind of also wants to kill her for the chaos she’s caused. He’s nudged into checking out the responses and out of the thousands there are about 8 that are maybes. But it’s the soulful Jeremiah whose email seems genuine that he actually responds to. Remi is really Jeremiah. Garrett has absolutely no idea who Remi Angel is 🙂 This is a bonus for Jeremiah. Somebody who doesn’t want him for what he can do for them or his fame.

Jeremiah and Garrett go out a few times. These are fairly platonic meetings for coffee and a drink/meal, but it’s clear there is chemistry there. Garrett has dealt with loss and abandonment and some self-esteem issues. Jeremiah has been trying to deal with his grief and turn over a new leaf. His grandfather is thrilled about having him around and Jeremiah is a lot more settled. But what will happen when Garrett finally finds out who Jeremiah really is? He’s been playing his past fairly close to the vest too They are taking things slowly as both are cautious about making a mistake and getting hurt. But there are forces that seem to keep drawing them together and they are so good for each other.

I absolutely loved this story! The supporting characters were so fabulous. Both families were rock solid. These guys were so lucky. I really enjoyed the reveals of the past that happened so organically in the book. No info dumping – just sharing as would be normal in a dating relationship. Kale Williams was spectacular as usual. I listened to this story pretty much in one sitting and loved every second of it. These guys dealt with some really tough issues. They didn’t make light of it and were thoughtful and considerate of each other the whole way. I also loved the little surprise reveal around Remi’s husband. So sweet! Go and listen. It’s a wonderful second chances story of two guys overcoming loss and getting another shot at love. Highly recommended.

In A New York Minute was both heartbreaking and joyful and I loved reading it. Two men both who had loved and lost before in different ways, meet in an unusual way, and find friendship and more in this emotional, slow-burn romance.

Remi is a 41 year old rock star on the road to self destruction. Losing his husband has left him untethered and he isn’t making the best decisions. Spurred on by an incident and advice from his manager who is a friend, Remi heads to his grandfather’s home to spend some quality time with him and get his head on straight before he does something he’ll truly regret. Being with his grandfather reminds him of his love of gardening, family, and the life he once craved.

Third grade teacher Garrett cannot believe when he sees his face on a Times Square billboard. Thanks to his grandmother Rose who decided he’s spent enough time alone following his painful divorce, he has no choice but to go through the emails with her and figure out a plan of action. There are several possibilities, but one really catches his eye, enough for him to schedule a meet-up.

I loved the premise of this story and while I was a bit disappointed that Remi withheld his public persona but I could also understand it as well. I loved Remi’s relationship with his grandfather and felt he centered Remi and offered some fantastic advice from time to time. While I do feel his drinking and substance abuse was smoothed over a bit too easily, he also had a drastic lifestyle change so it was understandable. I hated that Garrett still had doubts about what he could have done to be a better partner to his cheating ex-husband. He was such a sweet guy and I adored his relationship with his grandmother and his brother. It was obvious he loved being a teacher, his students meant the world to him, and honestly that he needs a new school or a new principal.

Every minute Garrett and Remi spend together I could feel them getting closer. There was attraction from the start, but the long conversations, the confessions, the discussions of movies, music, and more made watching their relationship develop even more special.

I loved the pace of this story and the emotion I felt as it unfolded. A New York Minute is simply a wonderful gay romance that I found hard to put down.
