A solid intro to Western 20th century (mostly Protestant/male/white) theology. Limited in scope/ perspective, it nevertheless is well written and organized.

This is an excellent introduction to contemporary theologies, or theologians, for it is really a kind of mix between presenting theologians on the one hand and 'theologies' on the other. The tone is in a way informal and there is a fair bit of biography and anecdotes in the texts. I thin, this is a winning formula since as everyone knows, background is often important for why a theology is shaped as it is. If I was to teach a course in 20th century theology I think I would pick this book over Ford's, but Ford's is perhaps somewhat more comprehensive.

Short Review: A good introduction to 13 theologians from the 20th century. These are academic and influential theologians but are often known for fairly theologically dense concepts. It can be a bit dry, but still helpful. The chapters have good context to the theological importance for each character so the chapters can be read independently and/or over time. (I read a chapter here and there for about 6 months.)

Read this bad boy in college. It is a useful introduction to 20th century theologians and thinkers playing with ideas about God. The class we read this in was my first exposure to some great thinkers like Barth, Tillich, Lindbeck, Bonhoeffer, etc. In the class we also talked about men and women from earlier periods but I liked this book. Easy to read. Interesting subject (for me).

This book will enhance your theological acumen as well as unpack contemporary theologies that have gained recognition by biblical scholars over the last hundred years. Each chapter introduces and highlights theological movements that have garnered debates and unequivocally influenced our perception of God.

Great book to have as a quick reference to the theologies of the 20th and 21st centuries. The book is not meant to be an exhaustive explanation of each, but rather a quick but thorough overview.
