In the land of Orosyss, the Piaens and the Aterens had long been at war. This war raged on for thousands of years until a great magickal storm came, destroying most of the peoples, and brought with it the dawning of a new era. With the new era came a new enemy the Dark Empress, Malum, Corruption, and the Empress's many legions of evil guards. Some say the storm was caused by the Dark Goddess, some say it was fate, either way, the land of Orosyss lies in peril. The Dark Empress and her guards have spread a curse, a poison of sorts, upon most of the water in all of the lands of Orosyss. This corruption, once imbibed, gave the Dark Empress power over the minds of the cursed; forcing them to serve in her corrupted guard. In Orosyss' history, the war of the corruption has been foretold. It was said that the war will continue until a pure one comes, bringing with her a life giving force that will hold the cure to the corruption, and the long-awaited end to the war

Badger’s End is a story about a very special girl and her friends trying to survive in a world that has been taken over by dark forces. The book starts off pretty intense, with Jade and her friend Sera being found collecting food and supplies from an enemy infested “camp”. You get to know the girls as they begin their journey back to Badger’s End running through the forest to escape the guards chasing them. Along the way, they meet new friends and find some that had been forgotten and they ban together to take down the Dark Empress.

This book has a little bit of everything in it, adventure, friendship, romance and fantasy. The descriptions Kari Lea uses help you to really see the characters and all of their surroundings. Jade makes a pretty big discovery about herself and you can’t help but wonder if you would be able to be as strong as a lot of the characters in these situations. The friendships that are developed throughout the story are deep and meaningful, making me wish I had more friends like that.

While the book ends abruptly, you really get to see the characters evolve as they are tested throughout the book and Kari Lea really leaves you wanting more.
