**WARNING SPOILER ALERT**

Well, Into the Arms of Madness, was my first let down of the year, which saddens me quite a bit. I wish I had better news for you guys. The writing was flat, and so were the characters. I felt as though the first few chapters of the story just rambled, and it didn't get much better from there unfortunately.

Bre and Todd are newlyweds. The first time she meets his family is at their wedding. They are all a bit “weird” so-to-speak and standoffish. Todd doesn't talk much about his past or his first wife. With that said, what makes Bre think that marrying Todd is a good idea? Well, it didn't make much sense to me either. She doesn't even press him about it. Odd to say the least.

Oh, did I mention Bre is a vegan? No, I don't think I did. She isn't against killing animals for food, but because of all the additives and chemicals pumped into our meat before consumption is her reason. I believe she has only been a vegan for two weeks at this point.

They venture to a secluded cabin for their honeymoon. When they get to the cabin, Todd offers to cook which is out of the ordinary for him. Bre is shocked to realize that he has cooked her a small steak for dinner. He tells her the “beef” was organically fed, or something to that nature. She eats it and even compliments Todd on it. After dinner, his family shows up out of nowhere. Todd gives her some speech about his family's culture and way of life and how top-secret it is. Bre is a bit dumbfounded as to why he's just know telling her this stuff and why his family is present. Well, he pretty much just blurts out how she just ATE a human being! Wanna know what her reaction is? She smiles at him, and thinks how much she wants to just run away.

Would that be your first reaction to knowing your new husband just fed you a human being? Not to mention mingled the dead guys blood in with your wine...UH NO! Not even remotely close. I think I scene like that calls for a clear cut panic attack followed by projectile vomiting.

Now, here comes the twist to the story. You are just going to love this folks! So Todd's parents send him on a little errand so they can get some alone time with Bre. His parents tell her they aren't really cannibals and Todd is...well, crazy—a mental case. All of this is in his imagination and none of it is real. Bre wants to know why he isn't in a mental institution and his father explains they couldn't do that to him. That it would destroy him. Really? He thinks he's a freaking cannibal and is mentally unstable and his parents thinks it's okay to “feed” these delusions?

To be brutally honest, I felt this story was a mess from the very beginning. I could go on about the problems I have with this story, but I think you get the gist of it. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this story.

Not as good as I'd have liked. Very "out there"

I liked the whole "cabin in the woods thing". I happen to really like Gothic tales and I do not want to imply that this was bad because it wasn't.

I just think I'd have like d it a bit more without the cannibalism factor. Not really my cup of tea. That being said, this would make a really good movie. It is m ore horror then fast moving thriller an d everybody in the story are so bizarre and creepy that if you are seeking something with a strong (Gothic) atmosphere and people who are up the re with the crazies of 'Deliverance" then this is your book.

I received a free copy of this book from the author, through LibraryThings; an honest review was requested.

“Into the Arms of Madness: A Novel of Suspense” by Regina Pacelli could not have been better named. She has developed a mad man unlike any other in fiction that I know of. Her character development is superb, bringing her characters to life. Even the whole mildly insane family rings true. This is a really potent story, and the suspense is almost enough to bring on an ulcer. This is a story you will want to add to your list of books to be read. It is a very well-written story, but also a very good tale.

“Into the Arms of Madness” begins with a pair of newlyweds heading to a cabin on a lake for their honeymoon. Almost immediately the bride sees a side of her new husband that he kept well hidden throughout their courtship. She also meets his rather strange and bizarre family for the first time… in their honeymoon cabin. Unable to fully believe or comprehend the evidence in front of her, she tries telling herself she’s just tired from the wedding and the drive, and not really thinking straight; it’ll look better in the morning. But it doesn’t look better in the morning. If anything, it looks worse and worse as each hour passes into the next. She sees completely opposite sides of him that she has never before seen, yet feels compelled to assume she is somehow at fault for having said or done something that upset him. Continuing to profess her undying love for him, she literally puts her life in his hands.

This story climaxes in a drug-induced haze of unreality. I can’t say any more without spoiling it for you. But I WILL say this book will hold onto you until you finish reading it. Don’t expect to get anything else done until you finish this book. I recommend that you get it, but I suggest you not start reading it until you can set aside an appropriate block of time to finish it. I believe that after you finish reading it, you will be recommending it to all your friends. I also believe your friends will all thank you for the recommendation after THEY have finished reading it.

Freaky psychological thriller about finding out that the man you married is very different than who you think. Like reading Rosemary's Baby. It read very quickly and was so quirky that it was enjoyable.

It's not often that I cannot figure out exactly where a story is heading but Regina Pacelli surprised me time and time again!

From the moment I started reading Into the Arms of Madness I literally did not put it down until I was completely finished which was just an hour before I had to get up and start my day!

This is an exceptionally well written book that will leave you fulfilled while begging for more. I definitely feel as if I got my monies worth...and then some.

Dear Lord was this book a rare find! Being a BIG romance novel fan, I was certainly not prepared for this take on happy ever after. This book is part romance, part suspense and part horror which is all the things that I would never have placed together on my to-read list. Yet here I am, one psycho adventure later marvelling at what a stunningly written book “Into the Arms of Madness” is. The story line follows the romance of newlyweds Todd and Bridget as they deal with the long hidden fantasy world that Todd is deeply entrenched in. Struggling to separate what is real and what is fantasy, Bridget has to deal with the likelihood that Todd may be hiding a murder that he committed in his fantasies. All the while, Todd has hidden his secret proclivities up until the honeymoon and has to deal with how to get his wife’s understanding and draw her into his world. This book is so left field from the typical lovey dovey romance novel yet it deals with the same core issues that we can all relate to, how far will one go for love’s sake and does love truly conquer all?
As you read the book you are struck by the different facets of the characters, both the good and the downright ugly which underline the fact that people are never totally honourable or bad; but rather are a mix of characteristics that test your ability to love them even when you see their ugly side. I found myself willing Bridget to keep believing in the strength of their love yet at the same time, I could not predict which way the plot would twist so I couldn't totally believe in Todd myself. I kept vacillating between wanting her to keep trusting in Todd and wishing I could yank her out of the whole situation all together. The author truly had me going until the very end. This is one psychological thriller that is not only a must read but it is a page turner that kept drawing me back to keep reading every time I put it down. Even when I couldn'tInto the Arms of Madness keep reading it, it was in my mind as a constant thought provoker about the fantasies we weave in our lives, the strengths of our relationships as well as how far I personally would truly go for love. It is one of the most original plots that I have come across in a long while which was made even better by how cunningly set up and well written it was. I hope to read more from this author soon!

A Well-Crafted tale of A Twisted Love Enmeshed with Deeply Disturbing Secrets!

This suspenseful little tale was quite an engrossing read! The Author delivers her story with a perfect blend of Mystery, strong, relatable characters, flowing dialogue and a unique plot that has you guessing all throughout the story the exact motives of not only the characters but, the author as well. I was pleasantly pleased with the fact that I could not put it down yet, it moved along seamlessly and quickly so I didn’t have to.

The author provides her readers with an engaging plot that becomes quite thought provoking. How well do you really know a person? I feel that all people keep many aspects of themselves hidden from others. As much as you think you ‘know’ someone else, in reality, you really only know what they ‘want’ you to know. That is a simple fact.

I found the Flow of the dialogue to be excellent and engaging…with a natural tone to it. I found myself immersed in the vivid scenery and emotional entanglements as each scene progressed unto the next. This author knows her craft and it is brilliantly portrayed in the way this story unfolded.

For her first fiction book, Regina Pacelli effortlessly leaves a new reader with a Memorable ‘First Impression’. This new author certainly showcases her seasoned writing skills and creativity in a way that pulls the reader into her story by dropping subtle hints to keep you guessing laced with little tidbits to keep your curiosity peaked.

As Far as the ‘storyline’ goes I really can’t reveal too much because it would ‘spoil’ it for new readers. I really liked ‘Bre’ but, found myself thinking many times … ‘What are you thinking girl?’ … I guess I’m just too seasoned in ‘real life’ to be able to think I would ever stick around and await the insane, new hubby’s surprises! (Especially after dropping dark, demented secrets and watching all his quirky personality changes!)

I give this one two thumbs up! It was an entertaining and engrossing read with a unique story plot I haven’t read before. If you enjoy delving into the depths of psychological behaviors and the workings of a splintered mind, and enjoy reading the not so ‘typical’ love story, then this is a great Book to curl up with!

Bre thought she was marrying a great guy. But she got some weird vibes from Todd’s family at their wedding. And on their wedding night Todd reveals some very disturbing information about himself. And then Todd’s family shows up to explain what’s going on. It seems as though Todd has a history of long term mental health issues that Bre was unaware of, and his family encourages her to play along with his “fantasies”. But as the story progresses you find out just how dangerous it can be to ignore symptoms of a serious illness.
I really enjoyed this book. The story was well laid out, and you could see just how different families with individuals who are mentally ill deal with their family members illness. If you want a quick suspenseful read check out this book.

This was quite a chilling book as it covered the topic of ‘what happens when you’re on honeymoon and find out your partner isn’t who you thought they were’…a scary thought and particularly in the case of Bridget and Todd. I thought it was predominantly written well but some parts seemed to drag a bit while the climax was almost too quick and I felt myself wanting a bit more of the showdown, but the epilogue made up for that as in the conclusion, I felt an element of something else darker pervading once more. Sinister…

I would like to say that the storyline for this book was really good. I enjoyed how I never knew what was going to happen next. However with that said the characters did not make me love them. I wish wish there had been more dialogue between them. I wanted to know more of him, and there were times i felt sad for him and others when i thought he was a monster pretending to be sick.

Loved it! Bought this book to keep me company on my plane flight and wasn't sorry. This was a very different kind of psychological thriller and kept me engrossed for hours. The author literally (and quite mercilessly I might add) kept me turning pages to find out what was going to happen next.

This book was a real thriller. Todd is a man stuck in his fantasy world and the real world, unable to separate them at times. Into the Arms of Madness is dark, romantic, and suspenseful novel. There was never a dull moment or pointless moment in the plot. It was truly mesmerizing,

HARD PASS

I had high hopes for this book based off the five-star reviews and relatively high purchase price. I hoped it would at least be marginally better than the "extreme horror" novels you can read for free off Kindle Unlimited. Nope. The "suspense" of this novel hinges on every character being stupid and making irrational decisions. Our protagonist is a twit who simpers and thinks she can make everything better with love and understanding (and yes, I understand that CAN happen in abusive relationships, but the novel is predicated on the belief that Todd has shown no signs of "madness" prior to the honeymoon. So either our main character is codependent, an idiot, or both).

Todd's family acts as enabler to his madness (and I'm avoiding using "mental illness" because I think that would be offensive to mentally ill people). Todd's ex is pretty stupid too--she literally faces ZERO consequences for intervening prior to the events of the novel, and doesn't.

To add to the overall dissatisfying mess that is this book, the prose is choppy and trite. The dialogue is straight up cringe-inducing, and the pacing is all over the place. Do yourself a favor and pass on this one. It's overpriced for a two-hour read anyway.

As a lover of suspense and romance, I was referred to this book by a co-worker who said it was one that would definitely keep my interest. From the first pages I was happy to find that the first-person narrative and progressive style of the author fit the novel perfectly. The pages flowed quickly as I developed a strong bond with the protagonist Bridget. She was a multidimensional character that yearned for the love that someone of her caliber actually deserved but up until being with Todd remained vacant. Yet, once the family arrived at the cabin a shift in the story occurred that changed everything within minutes. I won’t say what, but that twist led the book down a whole different, and much more anxiety ridden, path.

As Bridget begins to discover the dark secrets that surround Todd and his family, she learns to cope with the influx of information barraging her from every angle. Her ability to adapt is a crucial aspect of her character as the issues become more and more obfuscated. Without giving away any further plot information, you can suffice to say that things get to the point where this woman struggles with a situation that may make you question whether you could ever trust anyone again; that’s how palpable the tension is.

In summation, if you like suspenseful romance novels written with vivid imagery and believable dialog, you can’t do better than this one. I enjoyed it tremendously and now am waiting intently to see what this talented author is going to dole out next.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*
Often times, a book either suffers from being too long and overwrought or too short and in need of more character building. This book somehow suffers from both. It suffers from being too long in that the way it is presented to us almost works better as a short story because of the lack of backstory. Pacelli absolutely needed to flesh out the family enablers and give them more of a setup. They just come out of nowhere as Todd and Bridget are in the cabin. As presented, it's in this no man's land lengthwise to be that effective. A story with this premise has to be either way longer, with sufficient backstory to build up the creep factor or cut to only be 20-25 pages for better effect. Think "I Am The Doorway" by Stephen King.

The premise itself is intriguing. Newlyweds Todd and Bridget are honeymooning in a lakeside cabin. Shortly into the trip, Todd reveals he is part of a cannibal cabal, or so it seems....

As I was reading this, I kept screaming at Bridget "Why the fuck are you not calling the police or driving the fuck out of there?!". It was a classic trope of illogical horror. The endangered female just wont call 911. I feel like this premise in the hands of an author such as Stephen King could actually be great, potentially.

Can't say I really enjoyed this one, but you might.

I didn't know much about this book before I read it. I entered and won a Member Giveaway on LibraryThing (a review upon completion was requested as part of the offer) based on an intriguing description of the plot provided with the contest announcement. I hoped Into the Arms of Madness would indeed prove to be an intriguing, enjoyable reading experience.

Thankfully, I can report that author Regina Pacelli did not disappoint these hopes. A sense of suspense drew me into the book immediately and kept my attention until the climax of the plot. I should add this is a very quick and easy, as well as entertaining, read.

Though enjoyable, I did find a few aspect of this novel to be problematic. First of all, I found the themes of the book were muddled. At least my understanding of them is muddled! I would say that the reason for this is the depiction of serious social issues as light matter. At the same time, while the tone as well as the material of the narration seems like it's supposed to be at least partly humorous at times, the joke element was never sufficiently sharp to produce amusement. For me, it only confused the effect of the narration in most cases.

Thank you for reading my ideas; I hope they can be useful to some fellow readers.

I received a free ebook version of this book from the author. It did not change how I reviewed the book. The following is still my honest opinion.
The Goodreads description is all I knew about the book going into it. It is a shorter novel, at just 224 pages; therefore, I read this psychological thriller in one day.
I liked the book, but I did not love it. What kept me from loving it is the lack of character development. I never got the chance to fall in love with any of the characters, so I was not rooting for any of the characters. More character development would have definitely made me feel more connected to the two main characters of Todd and Bridget. Lacking a connection to the characters kept me from loving the book. I did like the suspense that kept me wondering what would happen next and I was surprised by what happened several times.
My favorite quote: “One more row of my beautiful sweater, my beautiful dream of happy ever after, unraveled.”
The Bottom Line/ Quick Overview
• Fiction
• Suspense
• Psychological thriller
• Creeptastic (creepy)
• Perfect book to read in one day

Different kind of Psycho- Thriller

Into the Arms of Madness, A Novel of Suspense by Regina Pacelli is one of best thrillers I have ever read. Story plot begins with marriage of Bridget, Customer service analyst with Todd, who worked as a consultant and was currently serving as the technical. This was his second marriage first was with Janie. Todd fell in love with Bridget during her postgraduate studies and finally it resulted in marriage. The plot moves with an extraordinary pace with enough character developments like Mrs. Montelban (neighbor of Todd), Claire, Craig (Todd’s sister and younger brother). But during honeymoon Bridget learns some alarming facts about her husband from Todd’s parents. What is real problem of Todd? What made her first wife to leave him? What was the secret that Bridget learned about her husband? All these questions will be raised in your mind as we move along each chapters. Simply revealing answers for these questions will not make sense….so its better you read this fascinating novel, which reveals struggle between love and madness.

The tittle “Into the Arms of Madness” simply is the best suitable tittle for a book like this. It describes the main twist in the novel. Todd and Bridget, being a pair of newlyweds are trying to discover each other after their wedding. They both planed going for a honeymoon to a cabin by the lake, spending some time together to get to know much about Todd and his family. And this is where the story takes the twist and Bridget gets to know about her new husband’s mental illness…

It is an interesting blend of twisted love and horror. Bridget, after getting to know the newly terrifying secrets about her husbands, finds herself in a rather awkward situation, where she is confused to take a major step and decide between her love and her safety. The novel is very different from what you’d find to read now days. The concept of a person being changed into someone else after marriage has been taken to a whole new height by the author.

It's kind of hard to peg what's going on in this novella. Is it supposed to be a thriller? A horror story? That's the kind of build-up you get a couple of times during the story, but it just didn't deliver for me.

It's the story of a young married couple, Todd and Bridget. When they go on their honeymoon, Todd reveals a big secret to her (I'm not telling what it is, as it's a spoiler). When his entire family shows up during the honeymoon to talk with Bridget about Todd, including giving her a huge file about his "illness," Bridget becomes even more confused than she was during the reveal.

Confusion seems to be the rule of the day, in fact. That was the constant reaction of characters in the story ... and my reaction as a reader.

I couldn't figure out where the author was trying to go with the story, and the ending was best described as anti-climactic.

I don't...have any idea what I just read. Part of me wants to be like, "Wow. This book was terrible." But something is stopping me and I have no idea what that something is.

I won't spoil you by telling you what exactly is wrong with Todd. But I will say that Bridget's reaction to it when she finds out has to be one of the most unrealistic things...ever. Any normal human being, upon hearing what Todd tells her, would have puked and then run screaming for the hills. Bridget's reaction is basically, "Oh dear, Todd. I sure wish you hadn't done that." Like... WHAT?!

This book just leaps and jumps from events that are barely tied together and it's sort of just ridiculous, to be honest with you. I don't know. It was a quick read and it was cheap so, no harm, no foul.

This is one of those books once you start reading it you won’t be able to put it down
Telling the tale of a newly married couple Todd and Bridget, it recounts their honeymoon and the events leading up to it and right from the moment you turn the first page you can feel the tension and turmoil the relationship it put under.
The author has done a great job with the characters particularly Todd who you can almost feel the secret he hides eating away at him.
If thrillers with twists are your thing then you will really enjoy this as the storyline keeps you on the edge of your seat
A really good read

‘Into the Arms of Madness’ has such an irksome premise—it furthers my resolve to never be married! Bridget’s discovery that Todd (her new husband) has some serious issues, left me riveted and hoping for more after every page. You won’t believe Todd’s disgusting habit, the illness that ruined his sanity and was ruining his marriage as well. This ‘perilous tale’ really will keep you captivated to the very end. I don’t normally read suspense (it keeps me up at night), but Regina Pacelli’s work is so high quality that this book had to be finished. I recommend this book to any suspense or thriller fan.

This book was short, weird, incredulous, but good. While I understand and know firsthand that love can make you do silly and crazy things, some of the reactions were so far off reality that it detracted from the story. The overall theme of the book, how far would you go for the one you love, is one that I don't see enough of. The phrase "Through sickness and in health" is just a phrase, until it happens to you. I wish the author had expanded more, but I do hope to see more work from her on this topic.
