“What’s wrong with me?”
She laughed. “There’s nothing wrong with you sweetheart. You are one of a kind, and there is not one other like you.”

Fuck special snowflakes. Fuck insta-loves. Fuck heroines who do jack shit but to call upon their knights in shining armor to save them. Her fucking destiny? One of a kind. Bullshit.
There is an age old prophecy which tells of the one that will be born of Angel and Abomination. A child that will have the power, greater than the angels. A power that can bring change, and save the earth from total devastation.
Fuck heroines born to a special destiny who do absolutely fucking nothing to deserve it and nothing to fucking earn it. I'd rather read about Paris Hilton. Emma whines. She is petulant. She is immature. She talks like a 13-year old addicted to social media and I am just through with idiotic fucking helpless fucking heroines who claim to be the savior to the human race.

There are Darklings in this book. Fuck that shit. Go read Siege and Storm if you want a half-decent Darkling character. This book is a joke.

In the gun-happy United States, we have an expression: trigger-happy. It is used to indicate someone who shoots first, thinks later. As a slang, it is used to indicate the act of doing before thinking.

The phrase trigger-happy would also be perfectly applied towards the "Request" button on NetGalley. You browse through all the available books, and before you know it, you're breathing heavily, with a crazed gleam in your eyes, sweat forming on your brows, clicking with wild abandon, not knowing what the fuck you just got yourself into. This would be one of those situations. Man. I hate myself. I wish I had never gotten approval to review this book.

Some YA books are wonderful, they can be read by people of all ages, they can be enjoyed by a wide range of audiences: this book is not one of them. It is best enjoyed by those who:

a) doesn't want to inject the tricky process of thinking into their reading experience
b) are between the ages of 9-12 (with exception to the emotionally mature ones of this age group). The vocabulary will not give this age group any trouble whatsoever.

O, Editor, Where Art Thou? I have read fanfiction that were better written than this book. I had to stop and wonder at one point if this book had ever been corrected by an editor, or whether an editor even so much as sneezed in its general direction. A generous person might call me nitpicky, a not-so-generous person might call me a grammar Nazi. My inner grammar Nazi was on full swing throughout the reading of this book.

I have never read a book with so many errors. Grammatical errors, misspellings, mistakes in punctuation. The book is ridiculously inconsistent on capitalization, the word aunt is uncapitalized in some instances, capitalized as Aunt in others. Errors in spelling abounds, for instance, a border is spelled as "boarder," branches are "braches," copacetic is "copasetic." And then there are the terrible word usage, like "aloneness" instead of loneliness. God save us all.

There was a grievous crime committed against the comma in this book. Commas were used where they shouldn't be, creating odd breaks in sentences that pissed my inner editor off like you wouldn't believe. For example:
The once beautifully, quilted fabric of my life was quickly unraveling into one giant, tangled mess.
And commas were omitted where they were needed. For example:
"I’ve never seen anything like it! You Kade?”
And...
“What’s your name child?” he said in a very kind voice.
These are but a few of the multitudinal errors within the book.

And, oh, my god, the stupid fucking things that come out of Emma's mouth...
I slowly walked pass all the shelves, examining the books, art, and what looked to be ancient relics. Some of these things looked like they were dated way back, like as far as A.D. and maybe even B.C.
...Because it's not like we're living in A.D. 2014 or anything. You are a fucking moron, Emma.

The Writing: The writing is utterly juvenile, purple prosy in places, and completely overdramatic in others.
And then it slammed me - reality did - like a Mack truck hitting me at full force. A shattering pain surged through my heart, quickly spreading like a brush fire, torching everything inside of me.
The main character is 17, and I understand that there may be some 17 year olds who are completely idiotic and immature in their way of talking, but I've been fortunate not to meet any in real life. The dialogue in this book is utterly laughable, and the internal dialogue even more so.
The belt was filled with large ammo and what looked like...grenades??? Oh my God!!!
The Summary: Emma wakes in the hospital. It is her birthday, but alas, she has been left an orphan (not the fucking orphan trope again, please, won't someone think of the parents in YA fiction?). It was a devastating car crash of which Emma remembers nothing. Emma is a miracle.
It was a complete miracle that you survived.
Her wounds heal miraculously fast, to go along with the miracle theme of the day. She miraculously remains almost unharmed. Out of nowhere, an unknown aunt (or Aunt, in some cases, fuck you, editor) swoops in to save her from the foster system. Emma is going to Alaska to live with her half-aunt. ALASKA! Ohmygod ALASKA. It's so far north. It's so cold! There is a horrible lack of hot men!!!!!!
I was going to Alaska, for heaven’s sake. I’d never heard of any hotties from Alaska. All I pictured were big, scruffy men in red flannels with facial hair.
And the bears! And the moose! And not to mention all the criminals who live in Alaska!
"You can get lost easily over there. I heard that people, criminal types, move there to escape justice...you know...lots of places to hide. So you’d better be careful, Emma. Don’t go out alone at night. And, watch for bears…and moose that have babies. They will charge at you if you get too close."
Suddenly, electricity fills the air. It surges.
An electrical current surged through my veins, and the same euphoric feeling, which I’d felt earlier, shot through me...intensified times ten.
It's KADE! KAAAAAAADE! The intensely gorgeous, electrifying Kade. They touch. The sparks fly. But...but Kade is not who he seems! He's so...pale. Kade's not who he seems! He's so pale!
His physique was statuesque, but his skin was pale…almost colorless. I assumed it was because he came from Alaska. No sun for half the year. That had to explain it.
Wait a minute! Pale skin. Supernatural strength!

IT CAN'T BE!!!!! IT SIMPLY CAN'T BE!
All that was missing were vampires and werewolves. Wait…Vampires? Kade sure looked like a vampire with his pasty white skin.
No, seriously. Is he a vampire?
“I mean, you look human to me, but I’ve seen you do inhuman things.” I waited for him to answer, but he didn’t say a word. “Are you a vampire?”
He suddenly burst into a laugh. “No! Vampire? You seriously thought I was a vampire?”
Lol. No he's not. But seriously, are there vampires? Emma really wishes for vampires.
“Well… what about that thing that almost killed me in the bathroom? What was that? It looked like a vampire. Was it…a vampire?”
FOR THE LAST FUCKING TIME. NO.

Sigh. They get to Alaska. More sparks fly between Emma and Kade. Electricity literally sparks between them whenever they touch. It's not just a figure of speech. They spend time getting to know each other. They make friends with the other members of the house, all of whom are gorgeous fucking men, I mean, talk about raining men. 5 gorgeous guys, all ripe for the picking, and the only fellow female is a girl of 13, so young she doesn't even pose a threat.

Out of nowhere, Emma is plopped into danger. The other guys fight like badasses. Emma's an albatross in a battle. She can do nothing but stand there and wail. Her weapons of destruction are her words, and my oh my, what brilliant words they are:
“Damn, you stink and you’re freakin’ ugly. Poor God must have hurt his back trying to bend and scrape the bottom of the crap barrel to create you.”

This is the girl who is humanity's salvation. God save us all.

The Special Snowflake: Emma is a miracle. She's got AB- blood type, a blood type that only appears in less than 1% of the population. An only child. There is nobody on earth left in her family. Until her "aunt" shows up out of nowhere, Emma thought she was alone in all the world. She heals supernaturally fast. She is special. Ever so special.
“I know that right now you don’t feel like there’s anything special about you, but you are very special, Emma.
Did I say she's special? Yeah.
I’d say you’re a rarity…something special
YOU DON'T FUCKING SAY?
“You are a special breed Emma. There has never been another like you.
Where did all this specialness come from? How do people constantly ascribe brilliance to something completely fucking ordinary, like noticing some weird guys following you around. I notice creepy guys stalking me in the street? Am I special too? Or just Emma. Because apparently the ability to see something completely fucking obvious is absolutely fucking brilliant to the ever-so-easily impressed Kade.
“You’re very perceptive, Emma Wise. I’ll give you that...but then again...I guess you aren’t like most people”
During battles, what does she do? Does Emma fight? Does Emma stand up for herself? Does she become a warrior? Is she heroic? No. Emma stands back like a fucking pussy. She stands "frozen with fear," she is filled with "pain and helplessness". She waits for Kade to fight for her, to come to her rescue. Kade is her "real-life knight in shining armor, determined and unwavering in his responsibility to save [her] life." Fuck that shit. I'm out.

The Romance: Do I need to say anything further? The romance in the book makes Bella and Edward sound like a timeless story of love eternal. There is literally nothing between them but insta-love and insta-lust and surges of "electricity" and numerous instances of euphoria that develops into love out of fucking nowhere. Euphoria that hits in between life and death. Because surely, love must interrupt the most dangerous of situations.
He suddenly threw his body on top of mine.
BAM!
The explosion of the Hummer sent shockwaves through the trees, and sent fiery shrapnel shooting everywhere. Flames and smoke bellowed from the wreckage, which had flipped onto its side.
I was overwhelmed with the feelings of warmth, and the euphoric pleasures brought on by his closeness, even more so now that his body was hard pressed against mine. He was gorgeous, and he was on top of me.

There is no interaction between Kade and Emma whatsoever that hints at anything more than a superficial acquaintance.

The book ends with the phrase: "God help us." Indeed.

I received this book as an Advance Review Copy.

I know what you're thinking. "But Mary, you said you would finish all your ARCs! Plus look, wings! You love wings!"

First, clearly you know a lot about me. It's a bit creepy but mostly I'd like to apologize for forgetting your name which I probably have. Second, you would be right! I did in fact swear that I would finish all my ARCs and I do love wings.

So how on Earth can I justify not only DNF-ing this, but also DNF-ing it only 10% in? 10%. Yeah. Do you know the last book that I put down that I didn't even get far enough in to know the plot? If you do, tell me, because so far as I remember I don't think its ever happened.

So let's break down all the problems that I have with this book a mere ten percent in. Be forewarned, there will be an excessive amount of gifs because words alone cannot tell you how much I am upset over breaking my promise to myself and doing it twenty pages in a book.

Emma's parents JUST died and she....kind of cares.

I'm not saying she doesn't care, but she definitely thinks more about how unfair it is to go to Alaska. Beautiful Alaska holds no sway over this chick and she proceeds to whine about Alaska. Never mind that dear old mom and dad were killed in the crash. No. Let's talk about "What am I going to do without my best friends if I go to ALASKA?!"

She offers more thought to what people are going to look like in Alaska than the fact that her parents, you know, just died.

I was going to Alaska, for heaven's sake. I'd never heard of any hotties from Alaska. All I pictured were big, scruffy men in red flannels with facial hair. And that was just another downer to add to my already huge and continuously growing pile of negatives.

Listen, I have not lost a parent so I have no idea what kind of pain comes with that. I also am not looking forward to finding that out. But I have lost a close relative and moved and let me tell you, those two things don't even come fucking close on the emotional level. I understand denial, but this isn't denial. This is purely glossing over the fact that her parents died because mother fucking Alaska.

AND if it IS denial, then the author needs to find a way to show me that, which leads me to the next point....

Showing versus telling is not a GOD DAMN OPTION!

It's the foundation of writing fiction. If you don't understand it, fine. I have problems writing it sometimes. But you practice and practice and eventually you get good at it. I'm not asking for perfect. I'm asking for a basic acknowledgement of the fact that Show v Tell was on the author's mind while writing.

This was clearly not the case.

Jeremy is a nerd. I know this because Emma told me in an internal monologue. I also know he's not touchy feely because guess what? Emma told me.

Jeremy was like my nerdy brother and this gesture, to comfort me, was his most sincere given he wasn't a touchy-feely kind of guy.

"Mary," you say, "you're being unnecessarily nit-picky here. It's not fair."

Alright, I don't think so, but let's say I'm being nit-picky.

Then there's Jeremy Needles, our nerdy sidekick, aka: The Nerdmeister. Even a makeover wouldn't work for this guy. Nerdiness was too deeply embedded into his genetic make-up. He's tall, stick-thin, and his only noticeable muscle is his brain, which is covered with untamable, curly-brown hair. Every day he wears his bright orange, coke-bottle glasses on a large, pointy nose, and had barely-there lips. His true loves are his books and anything electronic.

Does anyone else think this reads like a character breakdown from an RPG? Do I care about any of the above information? Fuck no. In fact, now all I'm thinking is that this guy suspiciously sounds like Steve Urkel and that's a stereotype and not a real fucking character.

If you're wondering, Jeremy's paragraph above is preceded by a paragraph in the same style talking about Lia Ling.

Dialogue should sound like PEOPLE!

Nothing, and I mean nothing, turns me off a book more than craptastic dialogue and let me tell you, this book has it in spades. Dialogue is an art form, it's hard to master but fairly easy to at least have a basic understanding.

Write dialogue how (some) people talk. Not all people. A ton of people sit and repeat themselves or go off on tangents or what have you. BUT! I should be able to hear a real person saying these words. I cannot find one single person that sounds even close to these characters and even if I could, these would not be people that I would engage with. I would assume these people are stereotypes.

"What-ever, Jeremy," she huffed, holding her hand up in his face.

"Nice try... but thanks anyway. And thanks so much... you know... for grabbing my stuff. You guys truly are the best friends ever."

"Wow! This cast will definitely brighten the whole state of Alaska."

"We're going to miss you too! What are we going to do without you our last, crucial year? We're finally going to be seniors," (There's a word missing. Not a typo. That's how it reads in the book.)

"How could I ever forget you two crazies!"

I'll admit that I'm being nit-picky, but dialogue is such a big thing for me and I hate to see it so poorly executed. Tell me that these sound like seventeen year olds in California. I just couldn't believe it, not with this dialogue. Add into the stereotypical character development, and I feel like these guys are literally just pulled from tvtropes.

Remember when Emma hated Alaska? Insert hot guy here.

Yup. Suddenly Alaska doesn't look so bad when she's being escorted by Kade, our resident hot guy who will probably end up being a supernatural creature.

He looked a little older than me, had dark, perfect features and flawless-porcelain-like skin. Long eyelashes framed the brightest hazel eyes I'd ever seen in all my seventeen years. Dark denim jeans and a fitted, black V-neck sweater adorned his tall frame. His physique was statuesque, but his skin was pale...almost colorless. I assumed it was because he came from Alaska. No sun for half the year. That had to explain it.

Emma forgets that staring is rude and Lia is the same and Jeremy acts jealous because that's what guys do. Apparently.

And they've got that whole electricity thing going on too.

Because hot guy is here, the sadness that Emma feels leaving her best friends lasts like five paragraphs and then she's got that shit under control.

So let's go over the emotional scale of this book:

Parents dying is less emotional than moving to Alaska, which is less emotional that leaving your best friends, but a hot guy walking into a room and shocking you trumps leaving your best friends.

Because seriously, a day after your parents die and suddenly you feel the need to jump a guy because dear God, he's that fucking good looking.

Kade stared out his window, as did I, constantly trying to fight my body's irresistible urges to jump on him, wrap my arms around his neck, and kiss him. It was pure craziness, the things I wanted to do to this complete and total stranger. The scary part was that I was envisioning it like it was actually happening. What the heck was happening to me? Ever since I met him, my emotions wrestled against me.

YOU PARENTS JUST DIED!!!! GET SOME GOD DAMN PERSPECTIVE HERE!

I can't do it. I just. I can't even.

I might finish this book, it's only 200 pages, but I'll have to hate myself before I attempt it again.

Filled to the brim with cliches and cringe-worthiness, Hidden Wings was a rollercoaster ride of face-palming.

There are no words. I mean, I've read plenty of mediocre Nephilim stories. But this was like someone had mixed Twilight with a rushed fanfiction. Needless to say, despite my very best efforts to enjoy it, I couldn't quite find it within me to rate this book anything above 2 stars.

Let's go over why this book fell short.

1.) The cliched 'girl has cardiac arrest when faced with hot male' moment.
'As soon as he stepped through the door...my breath seized.'

'I was suddenly bewitched by his beauty; frozen in a trance.'

'His closeness immediately made me dizzy, and sent my world into a state of euphoria.'

'Breathe, Emma. Breathe. Breathe. And try to act normal.'

'I couldn't speak, and felt like I couldn't breathe.'
There's more. But you get the idea!

2.) Stating the obvious.
'He reminded me of Dwayne Johnson who used to be The Rock in wrestling.'
Gee. Thanks for the popular culture lesson! You'd literally have to live under a rock to not know who The Rock is. And even if you didn't, is it really necessary to explain every reference the main protagonist makes?

3.) Uncontrollable urges.
'Kade stared out his window, as did I, constantly trying to fight my body's irresistible urges to jump on him, wrap my arms around his neck, and kiss him.'

'It took everything within my being to keep from turning around, wrapping my arms around him, and planting a kiss on his full lips.'

'I fought the sudden urge to wrap my arms around his neck, pull him to me, and plant a kiss on his beautiful, full lips.'

4.) The way nothing seems to be good enough for the female protagonist Emma.
"Have you ever been to Alaska, Emma?"
"Never, and I'm not really looking forward to it. I don't care for places where the wildlife eats people."
Of course, Emma. People live in Alaska because the thrill that they could possible become some animal's dinner is irresistible. *facepalms*

5.) Weird descriptions.
'"You'll be homeschooled," he mumbled, with an exasperated look of sorry.'
How does that look even work?!

6.) Girl assumes that guy is either a vampire or a werewolf. No other explanation comes to her mind.

7.) Female protagonist insists on tagging along on dangerous mission, only to be a total burden and screw everything up.

8.) Star-crossed lovers.

All eight factors combine to make a story that would have been so much better had the main female protagonist been completely deleted from the story. I mean, the guardian-like guys were funny. Her aunt was kinda cool. The evil guys were sort of wimpy, but they didn't annoy me.

Hopefully the other books in this series work on Emma's character development.

OMG!!! I am still coming down from my book high with this one!! I seriously love Cameo Renae and her work. The whole flow of Hidden Wings is captivating, I loved the different emotions that were brought out of the characters, I loved the humor, the passion, and most of all I love Dom!!! I can't say any more about him you will just have to read all about how hot and hilarious of a character he is in Hidden Wings. Cameo has such a way with her writing that is completely unique and I love it.

Emma's life has been turned upside down when she wakes up and finds her self in a hospital after being the only survivor of a car accident. She is sent to live with her aunt in Alaska, away from everything she has known her whole life.

However, she never imagined what she would find in Alaska, so much danger, hot guys and family. The one person that seems to keep her going through everything that is being thrown at her is Kade. She feels an instant connection to him that she can't explain and she knows he feels it too, but theirs something else about him that she will soon find out that is different from any other boy she has ever known and most of all she is off limits to him.

it was one of the most stupid books i have ever read. no story, no real feeling, crappy writing and exaggeration was abundantly found in it.
half of the book was based on 2 days of her life after the accident and no depth was there. i mean come on! her parents just died, she became an orphan and all but NOOOOOO she found her self an obsession for a boy she hardly knew.

Once upon a time, I read this book, that’s when my nightmares start. I don't do cuss, my goodness. Fuck this book. This is fucking written by a highschooler. I wanted to dnfed this and I'm crazy because I should have.

English is not my safest prowess but I find some part of the book grammatically wrong. I don’t usually rate a book 1 star for nothing, so I am warning you ladies and gentleman that if ever this happened to be on your TBR list, please have pity on yourself. And if you are so curious in the story I summarized it for you.

Summary (I think I just wrote the whole story), Characters
Emma woke up on the hospital without remembering why, suddenly someone told her that she has been on an accident with her parents. Her parents are dead on the car accident. She miraculously survived. The doctor or whoever (social worker, I think) told her that her aunt will adopt/get her. Emma doesn’t know this aunt cause her parents never mentioned any relatives at all.

She told it to her friends, Lia and Jeremy. They pack her things and brought it to hospital. That’s where Kade, her aunt escort, will bring her to Alaska, where she’s going to live.

She fall inlove with Kade at first sight cause he is a Marty Stu and has that hazel eyes. Sorry maybe I exaggerated it a bit when I told you that she fall in love with Kade at first sight, but this time believe me when I told you she fall in love with him on the next few minutes cause she feel this warm thing that she doesn’t feel with any Marty Stu around. Poor parents, she just falls in love and forgets them.

So here comes the deus ex machina or not, so I’ll just use convenient, on the airport she just conveniently goes to the lavatory after one of her escort Malachi, Marty Stu version of The Rock, just told her not to leave from their sight. It is just so convenient that time when Malachi has to attend something, that she wanted to go to restroom, by the way Kade is still there and convinced him that if something ever happened to her she is going to scream since he is just outside. So let’s say, she freaking wanted to go there, but she noticed on the airport, that there’s a lot of Watcher, nodding at Malachi or them (She asked it to Malachi, who’s those people are) so maybe there is something wrong.

On the lavatory, some darkling attacked her there. She screamed, break ribs, Kade save her. Malachi healed her. She’s now on Alaska. She met Alaine, oh how she looks like her mother. She is now officially inlove with Kade. It is evening, so the talk with her has to postpone until tomorrow morning. Morning, her aunt is conveniently called in the hospital, by the way her aunt is a nurse, so the talk has been postpone again, she needs to kill time, she met all the Marty Stu out there and the 2 siblings kids, adopted by her aunt, Caleb (same age as her) and the other girl kid (14). The girl kid tour her on the palace/mansion-like-house in the middle of nowhere in Alaska, there is no school there, neighbor is 10 miles away, she is going to be home schooled, blabla. During the tour, the girl kid told her that there’s this place that no one knows about except for her and her brother. So they go there, play hide and seek, the secret place is a tunnel going to outside, and again she has been told not to go outside of the house, she conveniently met this man, the man doesn’t smell darklings, the man told him, not to go outside cause it is not safe, it was during the hide and seek, and she is the seeker, and the girl kid worried cause she is not seeking her, then called her name, after sometime, they decided to go back inside. Caleb was there on the entrance of the tunnel when they go back to the place, they had been looking for them cause the aunt is back. They had been scolded a little, girl kid whisper something to Caleb, they exit from the scene, after a while the girl kid(geez, I’m sick of writing girl kid so I have to look for the name again and found out it’s Courtney) came back crying, her brother is conveniently kidnapped by the darklings, cause she conveniently forgot to close the gate and they conveniently has to go back to and close it and there was the convenient kidnapping happened. So if they didn’t give them Emma, they are going to kill Caleb, they named a place to bring Emma, Emma comes with them cause she says so, cause she is freaking special snowflakes, that all of the darklings and fallen angel wanted her dead, and there’s this prophecy that going to happen that she is the chosen one, the prophecy is something like Harry Potter’s prophecy and yeah she has marks too. Fuck.

Every fucking chapter is so deus ex fucking machina.

She has been kidnapped too by the fallen angels during their rescue to Caleb.

Guess what, this book defies everything about fallen angel, they could be easily defeated or killed.

During the kidnapped, there’s this 3 fallen angel, one is conveniently his father’s bestfriend. By the way, from the beginning of the character I already knows who’s who cause I am a fucking genius or I am a fucking psychic. Her aunt is her real mother, a nephilim, half human half pure angel; her father is the man she met outside during the hide and seek, Samuel, fallen angel. She is special snowflakes because she is the only one like that and she and her mother is the only nephilim alive cause the fallen angels killed all the nephilim.

They save Caleb, Samuel [her father] and Danyel (cause the 2 fallen angel, conveniently saved Emma on the process) they went home bunker that her aunt mother conveniently made for this type of situation, they can’t go back to the mansion cause the mansion is protected by something, that no fallen angel could cross, darklings can though.

All through those times, she just freakingly said how she needed Kade.

World Building
HAHAHAHAAH I will just laugh.

I will rate this 1 star cause 0 star will not affect the ratings and I hope to pull down some ratings to it.

Overall rating:
0.0000000001/5

Fooled by another pretty cover, this paranormal YA novel was not for me. I DNFed around page fifty, my new goal, and could barely get there. However, I will say fans of A Beautiful Dark, Halo, Evermore, Fallen, and the House of Night series will eat this up. Let me share some of the lines and issues I had with it for you to decide if this one appeals to you.

Product placement. I know there is another word for it but it escapes me right now. Anyway, there are a lot of modern devices and things mentioned in this book. Usually, this is a positive for me but the multiple “Kindle Fire” and “iPhone” mentions seemed very useless and thrown in at odd places.

The token best friends and dead parents. There is the nerd boy best friend and the girl friend that is another race, in this case, Asian. It’s just so predictable and cliche, they are written like the cookie-cutter versions of a heroine’s best friends. Also, there are three mentions of her friend’s “Asian eyes” three times before 25% in the book. It was used like so: “…her Asian eyes narrowed…” and “…her Asian eyes were the widest I’ve ever seen them.” I just feel like that is just unnecessary to keep mentioning that she is Asian.

The drop dead gorgeous, perfect love interest. I cringed during this part, when they first saw each other: “I noticed something in his eyes; something in the way he was looking back at me, like he’d known me forever.” And “His powerful smile seemed to pull my sinking heart from the unknown depths of sadness, and place it somewhere a little safer. What kind of magical charm did this guy have on me? I was usually calm and collected, even when hot guys were around.” Also, “As soon as we touched…WHAM! An electrical current surged through my veins, and the same euphoric feeling, which I’d felt earlier, shot through me… intensfied times ten. Heat rushed through me, and my body felt like it was being pulled toward him, this we were magnetized.” Don’t forget, “…constantly trying to fight my body’s irrestible urges to jump on him, wrap my arms around his neck, and kiss him. It was pure craziness, the things I wanted to do with this complete and total stranger… It started before he even walked through the door at the hospital.”

If any of those lines appeal to you, then you will for sure love this one.

Hidden Wings was a predictable kind of book. Even though it was entertaining enough to listen to at work and ya know.. work, a lot of it was still predictable.

Emma, the MC, goes through a lot of unexpected shit. Especially in the first couple of chapters. It was like one bomb hit and exploded but also ended up hitting a shit ton of other bombs 'causing a crazy ass explosion. Yeah, like that.

Well, she wakes up in a hospital to find out she was in a car accident with her parents. They didn't make it. Oh, and on top of that she has some relative she's never heard of or met claiming to be her guardian. So she has no choice and needs to move to Alaska, where her aunt lives. Now of course I always think it's strange when kids don't know their relatives. Especially when it comes to these circumstances.

Anyhoo, on this adventure to Alaska she meets Kade and boy are there sparks flying everywhere! They were freaking adorable and I was secretly shipping the crap out of them. I also kind of predicted that they would eventually end up together because of that first moment. Either way, I ate that shit up. I loved it.

Besides the romance and that little family mystery, there's a whole other shit bomb going off. Not only is she not 100% human she finds out that demons or the fallen want to find her and kidnap her and shit. Yeah, a LOT goes down for her and the friends that she meets.

Also, another bomb:

Overall, it was enjoyable even though it was predictable. I could totally see myself diving into the next book just because I want to know more about this world.. and it also makes work go by so much faster.

When I picked up this book, I really didn’t know what it would be about since I tend to go by referrals and I am a cover snob. I admit it. I thought the covers were beautiful, kudos to Regina Wamba from Mae I Design, and thought, Hey! (Si Robertson from Duck Dynasty Voice) this look’s good.

Low and behold I open the book to the most tragic moment. For any young woman, waking up to a strange place without a single familiar face would bring fear into anyone’s heart. But when Emma Wise learns that her parents have died and she was the sole survivor in a car accident, you literally feel her pain. To make matters worse, she is only 17 and finds out that her only family member is an aunt she has never met nor ever heard of before.
But once she ready to leave to a new life leaving her best friends and the life she has always known to Alaska, Emma has no idea she will be thrust into a dangerous new world. When secrets are revealed and Emma realizes that she is quite more than what she seems and the deciding factor on the longest known war since the beginning of time, what will she do?

Along away she meets her Aunt Alaine who has her own secret as well as, Kade and the rest of the men in her new Alaskan home. Emma quickly discovers that there is an unexplained connection between Kade and her, but will they be able to follow their hearts or are they destined for failure?

This is truly epic tale with adventure and suspense. Five Stars

Thank you to Cameo Renae for allowing me to read this first!

When Emma Wise wakes up in the hospital and is told that she was in an car accident. When she ask about her parents she is told that they are dead. She is 17 and doesn’t know what is going to happen, until she is told that she has an aunt that want to take her in. Emma has never hurt of this aunt, and the biggest thing is she lives in Alaska. She thinks her life is going to suck until she meets her escort Kade Anders. He is very handsome and there is something with him, something she can't put her finger on.

This story will take you on a ride! There are so many twist and turns, it will make your head spin. I love a book that keeps me reading long after bedtime and this book did, until I finished! There are also many parts where I scream, “What!?!”

I highly recommend this book, but it is highly addictive!

What. The. Fuck.
So. This is the story of a girl who was in a car crash and lost both her loving parents. Ok that is sad. But there is even worse ! She need to move in Alaska with an aunt she never heard of, which is unacceptable because her parents shouldn't have lie to her, and she has no cellphone. But her friends drew butterflies on her cast and her "escort" (a.k.a the guy who's gonna babysit her) is like super hot. Like omg-he's-so-hot...

Your parents are dead. Oh. Okay.
You have an aunt. What ?? How could they lie to me ??
You're moving to Alaska. Seriously ? Alaska ? Omg it's like the end of the world and I don't have clothes warm enough
You must have lost your cellphone. My life is over.

Geez, kill me now.

So this is about a girl who learns she's an orphan and 24 hours later act as it's water under the bridge. I'm out of here.

Okay so as much as I really did enjoy this - and trust me i did - I have to give this a 3.5 but its closer to a four hence the four stars you see. Why you ask, well let me tell you more about everything.

So the story is over the span of two to three days, and a majority of it happens on one. And okay it works for some books it really does but because this is the first in a series, and everything is new to the main character i really felt like it needed to be slowed down and taken even a couple more days. A few more days of gathering information, a few more days of acceptance before we thrown completely and utterly into the fray. So this is a double edge sword for me because i like when stories start off running, and i like the constant pace of the story but okay hidden wings - if you haven't figured it out yet is about angels and what nots, so yup there i said it, deal with it. But anyways Emma doesn't know about them until the day everything happens, and she has good freak outs but keeps moving which i love but at the same time there was just soooo much happening that the reader didn't get time to breathe and say okay, let me get my head around this. She is in a car accident, then moved away before her parents' funeral, so Cameo Renae its okay to slow down a bit too. I wanted her to have closure and a funeral scene i think would have been nice for Emma and for the reader. There was a lot of parts actually i felt that we could have just had a slower day.

So plot in general, most angel books i have read deal with Nephilim, so that was pretty natural but there was some new twist in this book that i really enjoyed and gave the book a different edge from other angel books. It wasn't pushy about religion but i have only read one i think that was super pushy about it. but that is not about that book but this one. Again things moved quickly which can be a really good thing but sometimes its okay and i truly felt since this was the first in a series that it should have been slowed down some.

Okay my character rant, ready?

Emma is our main girl, and when i read the summary i was thinking okay she is going to be one of those girls that are like, my parents dying? huh don't care i will move on. Well this happened two days ago so no, she doesn't and thank god for that because its true human emotion, something i can connect with, well not on the i lost my parents thing but the emotions. i couldn't possibly begin to understand how that must feel, and that i love that even if she is sad she isn't whiny or antsy, she deals with it as best as one could after losing their parents. she doesn't get much of a chance to grow because the time is so short and things happen right after each other she doesn't have time to reflect but its a series or at least i know there will be a second one, so she has time i am not to concerned about that. there were times i don't know if it was because the mood i was in today or what but i just didn't like her? she had these moments of seemingly very mature, and witty. Look i am going to say this right now i am not a mature person when i want to be, and that is a lot of times, so i like playful fun characters but her playful fun moods came probably at the worst timings for me. it was i think suppose to going for more serious and there can be a nice balance of playfullness and seriousness i think though this book has yet to achieve it, and thats not a problem because hey its a hard thing to do. which then leads me to talk about the boys.

Kade, well i love his name, super awesome. But anyways THANK FREAKING GOD! Ugh do you know how many books i read with the main guy this broody overbearing serious, oh-i-can't-possibly-love-you-because-of-my-past kind of guys? Seriously look at my list of books and you will see most book gents are like that, and its okay because they are fun to read sometimes and who doesn't want the mysterious dangerous type? Well i am so thankful for Kade because he is unbelievably sweet, truly he is, but more than that i can definitely feel like he could become a very playful character. I feel like we didn't get enough time with him in a normal, non-stressed out, crazy, action scene in order to really get that from him but i sensed it in his character and i will gladly read more to find out his character is like that!

People who hate the love triangle are going to love this!

There is: James, Malachi, Dom, Alex, Thomas...im pretty sure that is it. So... these five are Angels? I don't know because we never get told one way or the other. I am going to assume so but they act very young, the only one that seemingly had a shiningly different personality was Malachi and i thought for a good half of the book he was in his late 20s....but i don't think he is....character descriptions got a little lost i think, i mean don't go on a 20 page rant about how each character looks but don't also do character descriptions all at once... Dom was a little flirty, but we don't get a whole lot of them separate from each other so....characters started to blend...sad but true and i was hoping that i would get to rant about each one of their characteristics but alas...there isn't much to say....as i said before they are all angels...im pretty sure but they are hired by Alaine....i think...and oh jeeze seriously there attitudes bothered me sometimes too, i enjoyed that they could be light and fun during action scenes because it is nice with all the killing we have a bit of comic relief but like i said their characteristics became the same and it was sad we didn't get much variety. Well can't say that about James because im pretty sure he has two lines in the entire book....just saying...

So yeah....there are a couple other characters that i would like to rant about but i am going to because of spoilers. so moving on from that... OH before i forget, none of the other guys i mentioned up there, or any really try anything with Emma and Emma doesn't have conflicting feelings for two guys, its Kade right away. So thank God because i was a little concerned when i started to read it that there was going to be like this super strange ass like pentagon love angle? But nope thank you very much! some harmless flirting but other than that we are good!

So the ending... cliffhanger. i think i going to be fine but at near the end so much had happened that i am just like okay i need a bit of a break anyways....but yup its a cliffhanger no doubt about that. CLIFFHANGER.

So my last piece of advice? If you like Angel stories, and you are looking for a good quick, entertaining read, pick it up try it out, and form your own opinion, because honestly what do i know?

So did you enjoy that review? i know i did, but then again i wrote it...so anyways if you enjoyed this and you want to know what other books i love? or like? or kinda like? or hate - just so you can read them to spite me because you think my opinion is crap? Good! Then check out my blog that i made with my friend who also writes reviews sometimes! check us out here: http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp... see you then ;)

Sometimes when you pick through a pile of uncertainties you find a treasure. Every now and then, you find a
beautiful cover on a book, secretly hoping the inside holds the promise of the beauty you see. This book made
me realize why I love books and why reading ignites a passion in me!

This book made me fall in love with reading again..words written with flawless perfection page after page. I

do not get too much or too less. Just perfect!

Next year when I am announcing my 2013 favorites, this book will definitely be on that list. Thank you Cameo for

Emma loses everything, everything she loves is gone. She is swept away to Alaska to stay with her Aunt. Once
she is there, she finds herself surrounded by hotties. You will love Emma! She may have lost so much. However she
is soon to gain a lot more. As in the sweet lovable Kade, Emma's escort. We also have the hot Guardians Alex,
Malachi, Thomas, James and Dom... swoon. Yes I said swoon! Sadly we will come across darklings and angels. Good and bad! (No religious debates here peeps) This book is only contains a wonderful and brilliant story. We have romance and bonding. Then next add the action...humor and excitement. It has everything
you need. This will be a book that every YA and MA will be reading and sharing with friends. My advice read this book, today... Now. It's a fabulously beautiful story that I assure you just happens to be worth getting lost in. Thank you Cameo... You have broken my readers block within your beautiful pages.

The only thing I had a hard time with is the ending!!! Only because I was so engrossed, I did NOT want it to end. Get ready Cameo Renae, because I will be following you around like a little lost puppy till you produce the next book!

I love YA/NA paranormals. I LOVE THEM, but this one was so boring. Just when I thought we were getting to a good part in the story, it would go back and get predictable and boring again. The romance between the heroine and Kade was predictable and boring. NO DRAMA...no nothing. You basically know how they both feel for each other immediately. The promises and the electrical touch...blah, blah, blah. So predictable. And the aunt never finding the right time to explain everything to the heroine was ridiculous and I hate when authors wait to until the last minute to explain things. She would explain things in bits and pieces. Just trying to prolong what was already boring.

Susannah Jones was an okay narrator. The darkling voice she did an amazing job on, but the heroine's voice was okay. She was not one I would ever recommend for other authors and/or publishers to use.

Oh, no. I barely made it through the first chapter. There was an obvious lack of editor here. Paragraphs were poorly constructed with the unusual dichotomy of excessive commas and fragments. If you're over the age of 17 and read much, don't bother. If you don't know the difference between you're and your, it might be worth your time.

“Hidden Wings” by Cameo Renae

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I just love Ms. Cameo Renae! I really enjoy reading her Young Adult books. Even with all the drama and craziness that goes on within the story, her books just make a person feel good…well at least they make me feel good! I always love the romance in Cameo Renae’s novels. Her writing always brings me in and makes me want to have that romance. Granted, the relationship of “Hidden Wings” is just a tad bit complicated…but the love is undeniable and I want to experience THAT kind of love within my life. I know if I experience that love, chances are slim that it will be with a gorgeous guardian angel like Kade! But hey, a girl can dream right?! Anyways, I am getting a little off track here thinking about the lovely Kade. I think this Young Adult Paranormal Fantasy novel is a 5 STAR read. I was intrigued throughout the entire book and I was left definitely wanting more. You’ll see what I mean when you read “Hidden Wings.”

Seventeen-year-old Emma Wise has a loving family and amazing friends…until a fateful car accident takes all that away. When Emma wakes up in the hospital, she learns that her parents died and she was the sole survivor of the accident. Overwhelmed with not knowing what will happen with her now, Emma discovers she will be moving to Alaska to live with her long-lost Aunt – one she never knew existed. Parting from her loyal friends will be very difficult…but after meeting the boy who will escort her there, things may be a little easier. Kade, Emma’s escort, is stunning! There is an immediate attraction between the two, but not an ordinary attraction…no, this was a burning electricity between them. At least Emma has Kade to look forward to now, because Emma’s new life in Alaska is the stuff of horror stories.

Everything Emma thought she know about life completely changed the minute she stepped foot in Alaska. Things barely imaginable even in nightmares were real, and they wanted Emma dead. Problem is…Emma has no idea why and is completely oblivious to everything going on around her. Eventually too many unexplainable and life-threatening things are occurring and the truth needs to be revealed. While trying to grasp and understand the truth, Emma must keep her head on straight and deal with what is going on right in front of her. Otherwise, Emma might not survive until her eighteenth birthday when things will really start to get interesting and change for her. Make sure to add “Hidden Wings” by Cameo Renae to your To Be Read list so you can find out what will happen to Emma.

As I earlier said, I love the romance between Emma and Kade. Although this romance is definitely frowned upon (and you’ll learn why) their connection is undeniable. I love all the characters in “Hidden Wings.” Everyone was great in his or her own way, and I feel like no person was replaceable. Everyone had a reason for being in this story. I would actually love to see a short story focused on one of the Guardian men. That would be so awesome! Every Guardian was hot, funny, and just really enjoyable to read about. I loved the Guardians good sense of humor and their admirable strength…it definitely made for a good action scene. I loved the dedication and friendship all the characters had to each other. I really just liked everything about this 5 STAR book and I would recommend it to fans of Cameo Renae and her book “In My Dreams.” I also think that Young Adult Paranormal Fantasy readers will love this book. So go ahead and add it to your TBR list and buy this book as soon as it releases!

Awful, just awful.
description
Honestly, I consider this book to be one of the worst books I've ever read in my life.
There are just too many elements in the story that I don't like and throughout the first 40%, I keep asking the question: "Why? Just Why?".
description
Some things I can't even deal with:
1. Grammar wise, there are just too many inconsistency.
2. The whole "electricity" thing when you supposedly find your mate.

"As soon as we touched...WHAM! An electrical current surged through my veins, and the same euphoric feeling, which I'd felt earlier, shot through me... intensified times ten."

I know that this sort of "electrical current" thing is like an indication that you have found the special person in your life but I've seen it way too much that I am really starting to get annoyed with it. This keeps repeating in the book.

"I gasped, trying to catch my breath as the tingles surged through my arm."

I honestly wish that the next time Emma and Kade touch, this would happen:
description
3. Emma Wise, the female protagonist. She is just the stupidest and most irritating character I have ever had the displeasure of knowing. I couldn't agree more when she says,

"OMG. I was such an idiot, and a complete amateur."

Her constant crying is just plain annoying. She cries in every chapter, and what's up with the whole nightmare/dream situation??? Every time she wakes up, her very first thought is whether this is a dream or reality.

"For a second I was bewildered about where I was, but it all came flooding back, like a tidal wave of terror. I'd really hoped these past days were merely a nightmare."

I mean, come on Emma, I know you lost your parents and it's a tragic but get your shit together! This is the reality, and it will stay like that forever.
She may be seventeen but to me, she has the intelligence of a seven-year-old. I was ready to delete the book from my Kindle when I came across this:

"These guys were well mannered. Must be an Alaska thing."

Really? Really Emma? What about their upbringing? Can't boys from Hong Kong be polite?
Argh. This book gives me a huge headache and I really need to something to soothe me.
description
Anyway, I don't really know what else to rant since I didn't finish the whole book but yeah... it's just bad.

This book was a horrible experience for me.
description

Instead of listing all the things that led me to feel like the girl above...I will just list some random quotes from the book, and you can make up your own mind. Just beware the whole book is like that, it never eases up, Emma's inner-monologue is severely angsty and annoying ...Oh, and also beware of viewing the spoiler -it's not very pretty.

"Was he jealous? Or was he just upset that he'd been replaced? I couldn't tell. But in my heart, I hoped it was the first." No shit, you've only mentioned one thousand, billion times that you think this guy you've just met is the 'one'.

"He caught me, and carefully lifted me upright, and in the process, an instant surge of warmth filled my body. I gasped. Why didn't it happen when I touched anyone else? This was something I would have to ask Alaine..." That old chestnut, huh? Like whenever we touch an electrifying pulse radiates through us, does he feel it too? I glance at his face and see a strained expressed full of pain and love and angst and aaaaaaahhhhhhhh....

"Maybe he was jealous. I squealed in my mind just thinking about it." Grow the fuck up.

"I was too weak to do anything..." Finally the girl speaks truth!

"Perfect. I needed Kade's touch to keep me alive. It was his touch alone, which kept me from dying. Toughen up, you are embarrassing girls all around the world.

""She's a lot like you. Stubborn and strong willed," Samuel chuckled. "But she's also like you...daring and fearless," she said. "I can't believe we're all here, together. It's like a dream come true."" What? You don't actually think she is all those things? No. NO. She isn't tough she is just too scared to be left alone, and too dumb to see that she is useless and will therefore mostly just get in the way. The fact that the author gives her the role of coming up with a good idea was so incongruent with her character it enraged me.

We do not need to hear every. single. little. pathetic thought or feeling in our protagonists head. I mean I seriously hope Kade dies.

This book made me want to:

I really enjoyed this book. It was a nice start to the series. I liked Emma but I felt bad that she had to move to Alaska. It was interesting to find out the truth about who she is and who her family really is. I just hope the rest of the series is this good.

Hidden Wings follows Emma Wise, who has just found out she is the sole survivor of a car crash that killed her parents. Emma is broken, and on top of the loss of her parents she now has to move away from everything she knows to Alaska to live with an aunt she has never met. Here is where Emma is going to discover family secrets, a centuries old prophecy centering around her, and find out that she is in danger, a lot of danger.

Hidden Wings by Cameo Renae is my favorite angel paranormal romance next to the very popular novel Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. Anyone that is a fan of Unearthly I believe will enjoy Hidden Wings. This book had it all when it comes to an amazing read, it had adventure, forbidden love, secrets, friendship, action and a bit of suspense and mystery sprinkled on top too. From the first page of Hidden Wings you are pulled into Cameo Renae’s writing, I found myself soaring through this book and before I knew it I had read it in one sitting! Renae’s writing flowed so nicely throughout the whole novel, readers will easily find themselves getting lost in the pages of her work.

While all around Hidden Wings was an immensely enjoyable read, my favorite part was the romance between Kade and Emma. There was such a mystery behind their connection in the beginning, and you couldn’t help, but feel for Emma once she found out that a romance between him and her is off limits. I’m not always a fan of the whole forbidden romance thing that a lot of YA novels like to have, but in the Hidden Wings series it was done very well. While it was a great part of the story, it was never something that took center stage, which I personally was grateful for.

Overall Hidden Wings was such a great start to a great series! Hidden Wings ends on a cliff hanger and left me dying to get my hands on book two and find out what happens to the characters I learned to love, and dare I say book two Broken Wings was even better than Hidden Wings! This is a series that I believe is going to continue to get better and surprise the readers more and more, anyone that is a fan of YA paranormal romances must pick this series up!

December 2019 UPDATE!! Time for a reread! I have been having the erg to dive back into this world. Honestly I think I need yearly reread every year. This series is what started my love for reading. I enjoy the world building and the books just get better as they go! I highly suggest you give these books a shot. They are such fun reads!

This book was wonderful. I love this author. After I read her Hidden Wings series, I had to meet the author behind the books. I had the luck of meeting her last year and again this year. She takes you on a journey. You get to escape all the pressures of life and dive into the YA. She was YA author of 2016 for Penned Con 2016. I watched as she accepted her award for this book series.

This story is a love story between Emma and Kade. When she turns 18 she must make a choice of which side she will choose. She is struggling because she has fell for and Angel but Lucifer wants her also so he sends his own distraction her way. So will she choose good or bad?

She is caught in the battle of Darklings and Fallen angles. Her family and friends become targets in trying to keep her safe and in the protection of the barrier from the Fallen Angels. After danger accours to her family she must take a trip to Hell and come face to face with Lucifer himself to try to save her family and her own life. The 5 stages of hell is just amazingly told and described in such details.

How will this story unfold?? You must read this!!! I recommend.... This is all in book 1!!!

I read this book a month ago and I am STILL thinking about it. I can't wait for the next installment.

What would you do if you woke up in a hospital bed to find you had lost everything? Wouldn't have taken it as easy as Emma did that is for certain. She has to grow up well before a 17year old should. Being moved to distant relative she doesn't know, in a state so far removed from everything she has ever known. BUT... she feels him before she sees him.. KADE The most beautiful man she has ever seen. A smile that warms you from the inside. Touch so electrifying it could light up a stadium.. sigh Not to mention a whole crew of sexy that is just waiting around the corner to keep her safe from harm. Wouldn't mind being in the middle of that huddle IJS ;)

This is a tale of forbidden feelings and a girl who must learn about herself after being lied to for 17 years. IF she can survive until her 18th birthday, her world will change forever.

I loved this book. I can not stress enough how much I love it. I am a sucker for angels and nephilim. This was a much different take on it and I am happy with the results. Ms Cameo did a fantastic job sucking me into another world I can't live without.

Finished and said "OMG NOOOOOOO!" and immediately wanted to tear into the next one. WRITE FASTER, Cameo!!!

Cameo Renae weaves and amazing tale from page ONE of Hidden Wings. The first chapter drags your heart through the mud and makes you weep for the heroine, Emma. She keeps your attention through the entire book with her amazing humor (such as monster massages and adorable banter with giant, muscly, sexy protectors!) and the crazy mystery of all that is going on. Emma's Earth-shaking connection to Kade is unfathomable (and envy-inducing to us common folk!) and kept me FLYING through the pages!

VERY real characters, breathtaking scenery, scarily-perfect descriptive details, yummy characters (Malacahi. Enough said!), intriguing plot twists, love, deception, pain, and a fast-pace story makes you not want to put this amazing book down once you start it. Trust me on this one!

As a side note, I'm not a fan of chocolate-chip pancakes, but the way Cameo describes them made me feel like I needed a gooey snack while reading. I would love to spend one day lost in the gorgeous mind of this brilliant author. Thank you, Cameo for your awesome talent and allowing me to spend a little time in your world. I am honored. FABULOUS! 5 Aurora-Borealis-bright stars!!!!

I cannot put into words how amazing this book was! After reading Cameo's first book and loving it I was thoroughly looking forward to this one! I actually couldn't put Hidden Wings down until I had finished it! I loved the plot and the characters! The plot was so amazing! I really don't want to give too much away with the plot as it is amazing to experience it by yourself but all I will tell you is that you will love it! I loved the characters as well! Emma Wise was the main character and I felt so sorry for her for what she went through at the beginning of this book! I did think though that she was slightly self-centred at certain points of this book and I would have liked for her to grieve for her parents for a bit longer than what she did but other than that I loved her! Kade Anders was so hot! He was the love interest of Emma and he was perfect! Alex, Malachi Dominic, James and Thomas were also amazing additions to this book! I loved the banter between all the boys as well! I honestly need another book to this one after that massive ending! The cover is so beautiful and it suits the book as well! Big thank you to Cameo for providing me with an ARC of Hidden Wings!
