Thirteen-year-old Riley Bale has always been a monster. At least that’s how all the other kids have always treated her. After being plagued with a mysterious illness for much of her young life and living as an orphan with her two cold and distant older sisters, Riley has dealt with being bullied by becoming a bully herself.
During a violent after school attack, Riley learns she’s being protected by forces beyond her control. She is tested and then invited to attend Lionhead Shifter School, which she accepts on blind faith alone, along with the desire to understand where her parents came from before they disappeared. Once Riley arrives in Lionhead, she not only discovers her true identity as a shifter, but appears to fit right in with the other new kids.
Riley quickly realizes that everything is not quite what it seems. Amidst an unusual hatred that arises between the two teenage boys she’s become closest with, Oliver Preston and Ash Plum, she must learn why the small island community has previously disallowed outsiders for over a hundred years.
I’m 29. I was born and raised in New Jersey, but I’m now living in Burbank, California. I went to Montclair State University, where I majored in Anthropology and minored in Film.
I absolutely loved this book. I read it in about two days (it would have only been one day if I didn't have to work) and I didn't want to put it down. From the first page was I curious and captivated with Riley and her life. I wanted to know more about her and all of the events that were to play out in the book.
I found all of the characters to be relatively well developed (considering it is obviously going to be a series, I understand wanting to leave room for self-discovery and mystery in each of the characters) and the plot was very captivating. I really enjoyed learning about the shape-shifters and their school. I cannot wait to see what Riley and her friends will be learn and what trouble they will find themselves in next term. The relationships between the characters were also very strong and I felt a pull towards both Ash and Oliver; I am very curious to see how those relationships pan out and what the turning point is in them.
There are so many ways that this series can develop and I am very interested to see how everything will play out. I really enjoy reading series, I love books where I can take my time in learning about the characters and watch the characters and plot(s) grow and develop as the books progress. I could definitely see my children reading these books; I am really hoping that the writing (although it is really great now) will also mature as the characters mature.
I am very excited for the next book in this series and I will be looking for it to come out. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book as a first reads, you now have a devoted reader in me. :)
Lionhead was really good. But I especially liked how things tied up. I loved Riley and everyone else as well. But there was something missing. Eh, I'll let it pass because it was Kris Noel's very first book ever and I love her tumblr.
I just received my free copy of Lionhead in the mail that I won off of goodreads. I would like to thank goodreads, the author Krill Noel, and Neverland Publishing for the free copy. I will get to this book as soon as I can and post a review here as soon as I've read it.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the idea of the school for shifters and the conflict with the outsiders. I am very curious to see how the prophecy will play out and the role of the demon shifters. I really can't wait until the next book.
