This was a very good story. It was also a long, meaty read. On the story merits alone, this is a high 4-star read. But it is on the technical merits that this books loses a star or two.

Like I said, the basic story is a good one. Aisha, Jenny, Connall and Ben all met in college. Connall and Ben had been friends since they were kids and were country farm boys and hail from a small midwest town. Aisha, the only African-American of the group, grew up in rather mysterious circumstances. Her family was in a cult that she escaped from as a young teenager and was taken in by her paternal grandfather who was very well off. We don't get a lot about Jenny's background, but she and Aisha were put together as roommates and became the very best of friends. Ben develops a crush on Aisha but it never goes anywhere, and Connall and Jenny fall fast in love. But... we learn... that Connall and Aisha are also attracted to each other. And attraction they both fight because of their love for Jenny.

This is all background and told in flashback, but it creates a nice sense of context for the group. As the book begins we learn that Jenny and Connall have been happily married and have two kids. But Jenny has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Her dying wish is for her BFF Aisha to come back and help with her kids and help Connall to adjust to her loss.

As for Aisha, she is a divorced, glamorous, globe-trotting, wealthy photojournalist. The idea that she would drop all that and come live out on some farm to help her frenemy Conall is laughable. But because she loves Jenny and it is Jenny's dying wish Aisha does just that.

The early scenes of Jenny's impending death and the dilemma that Connall and Aisha find themselves in, is well done. We already know that much of Connall and Aisha's enmity is becuase they had been attracted to each other and subsumed it in hostility so as not to hurt Jenny. But you also definitely get how much Connall loved his wife and family. This part didn't feel like a cheat or a short cut to dismiss Jenny jut to get Connall and Aisha together.

The rest of the story is about the two of them adjusting in the aftermath of Jenny's death, falling in love, and Aisha settling into the family and the community.

Other things I really liked about this:
The development of the romance. It did not feel rushed and did not seek to diminish what Conall and Jenny had, but rather allowed Connall and Aisha to build their own relationship.

The supporting characters were great especially Ben and his wife Helen and Jonus the young man Aisha hires to help around the farm.

The characters themselves. We are allowed to see Aisha's charm and warmth, Connall's solid steadfastness, Ben's humor and ride-or-die for his bestie, and Helen's friendliness and support.

And there was also Max, Aisha's ex husband. Max was an interesting character that I found intriguing but I think was mishandled in some key ways.

which brings me to what I found problematic:

The head hopping. The structure of the book was terrible for this. It wasn't necessary to get stop and get everybody's thoughts and plans.

Some unnecessary subplots/kitchen sink plotting: There was a LOT going on in this book, sometimes a little too much. Max's subplot felt weird and out of sync with the story. It was obvious sequel bait because his interactions with characters that have nothing to do with anything happening in the main story take up way too much page space. The racism subplot felt clunky and clumsily written. As does the vampy woman who is determined to make Connall hers at all costs.

There were some areas where the dialogue was a bit cartoonish and overwrought.

And there was a weird sense of time. It was hard to know how much time elapsed. We'd get a throwaway reference, sometimes in the middle of a chapter of months or weeks having passed. I am not sure how much time passed between Jenny's death and Connall and Aisha's engagement.

I think had the book been a bit tighter with some of the extra plotting, the head hopping and and some other editing, it would have been a much better book for me.

As it was it was still a good romance at its core.

This story is about 3 friends

Jenny Riley is dying and is leaving behind her husband Connelly Riley and her 2 children Abbey 5 and Shawn 10 months. She has had a good life with her husband and has no regrets. She wants to make sure her husband and family will be taken care of when she dies. So she asks her best friend Aisha for a promise. She wants Aisha to take her place when she is gone. She wants her to be mother to her children and wife to her husband. That is a big ask right?

Connelly Riley loves his wife and is beside himself with grief when he realises his beloved wife is going to leave him. She asks her husband for a promise too she tells him she wants him to let Aisha be a mother to her children as she is the only other woman she trusts with her kids and she wants him to turn to Aisha as a future wife. This too seems like a big to ask of her husband.
Aisha and Jenny are more than best friends they are like sisters. Aisha does not have anyone else in the world she can turn to as she is cut off from her biological family. Aisha and Jenny have been friends for years. However, Aisha and Connelly do not get along so well and tolerate each other for the love of Jenny. However, there is a good reason why they cannot manage to be civil to each other.

This story takes on you on an emotional journey of 3 friends and the promise they make to each and the struggle to keep that promise to the departed friend.

A great read and I would highly recommend his story!

WOW!! This book was a great read and one that I found difficult to put down. The book is full of ups, downs, highs and lows. I was able to connect to the characters in a way that made me actually cry, laugh out loud and cheer them on. I also was so involved it made me want to smack a few characters. Like a discussion with a best friend there were times when I even wanted to tell some of them to stop being afraid and just go for it. Even though I am not a big suspense fan I found myself forcing it not to skip ahead just to see what happens. However, afraid of what I would miss, I allowed the story to slowly unfold. Overall this book is a definite great read.

I enjoyed this story and found it extremely entertaining. It was hard to put it down, which I had to do quite often unless I wanted to lose my job. Anyway, there were some good and bad parts to this story.

Overall the story was interesting. I loved the premise. The author does a great job conveying the characters emotions in a realistic way. I felt Connell's pain and Aisha's rage during his depression stage (which came to an end in a rather hilarious way). Helen and Ben were great supporting characters. And so was Megan.

What I didn't like about this story was the numerous story lines that seemed to develop as it progressed. It went from Connell and Aisha to Aisha's family, Jonus's family, Max and Raven. It would have been better had the supporting characters had their on books instead of trying to include all of it in this one. Because of that, I feel like there were a handful of questions that were never answered. I wished there was more Connell/Aisha time with the kids. I know there's only so much a 5 year old and 10 month old baby can do, but out of all the supporting characters they seemed to have the least significant role.
There were also some minor spelling and grammar issues, but that didn't bother me.

I'll give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. The author told a good story with likable characters (Helen) who I would love to read more about.

This is the first time in forever that I can think I said that a book needed a sequel. I believe I have often said that everything could be put into one book. This book is different.

I enjoyed the story between Aisha and Connell. Aisha had big shoes to fill and she did a great job doing it. I must say she was slightly naive when it came to her ex husband. She simply believed what he said instead of digging a little deeper and getting an answer for herself. She took on a promise that was life changed, career altering and she did it with grace and spook. Connell was loyal strong and semi alpha. He knew when to give in and when not to give in. Overall I enjoyed reading about them. I think Aisha took too long to admit her true feelings but it gave you something to look forward to.

What should have been book number two, was the story of Jonus and Zamora. I just did not think the author did them justice by throwing in a chapter here and them about the. I feel like if they had their own story, then the author could have elaborated more. Especially on Jonus. I wanted to know why he was estranged from his family? How did his father become the way that he was? There are so many other questions that I have regarding Jonus. Then Zamora... How did she adjust? What did she do with her life besides finding Jonus? What was their sex life like? Endless questions. However their story was rushed.

OVERALL:
I enjoyed it. It was a referral from a hopeless romantic friend. There were quite a few grammatical error or missed opportunity for editing. However, I plowed through it to the end. I gave it three stars for the missed editing. I would have given it 3.5 stars if possible. Regardless of the editing, I would still recommend it.

I would give this 20 stars if I could!

What a fun, romantic, well developed story. Even saying that the characters are so well done there could be at least four or five spin offs and it would not take away from this story. Aisha was so well developed, there was no conflicting plot twist to challenge her integrity. Connell was vulnerable and emotional at the appropriate times and yet this did not take away from his masculinity or strength. I felt like these characters were my friends including the entire supporting characters. This was not all rainbows and sunshine there were several plot twists that deal with some heavy subjects but they were handed with compassion and maturity that told me this author understand that the ready doesn't need all the gore to understand the pain and sorrow of the subject. I don't want give anything away I want you to enjoy the same journey I went on. I hope I can find many more stories by this author. Thank you and happy reading 📚

A well written great read. Really liked the heroine Aisha - she was very independent and strong yet sweet/kind and loyal. And I so liked the friendship between Aisha and Jenny, they were very different in background and personality but had this long and strong friendship. Compare most interracial/romance books, this was a pretty long read, over 500 pages, which was mostly great - it gave more richness and depth to the characters.

So good

Such a good book! Characters were well thought out and relatable. There were several plot twists. I really appreciated that the book was longer than most and not full of fillers. So many books are short and just full of sex. There was plenty of heat here with a great storyline. There was lol humor as well. Looking forward to reading more by this author.

Wonderful. Excellent. Formidable.

My first novel of this author and it was fabulous. The characters were complex, realistic and captivating. The storyline was believable, pleasing and enjoyable. I laughed and I cried. I was scared, I was shocked and I was angry. It evoked so many emotions.

If you can, get this book and enjoy the ride.

Your welcome.

Awesome!

This book was simply good. It was long and full of character development. It didn't ignore the hardships that interracial couples face and yet didn't make it the focal point of the story. Every question was answered. I loved it.

Very good story! Kind of two stories. But, that's life. Our lives overlap in critical areas. Connell, Aisha and Jenny's love story was beautiful in its telling.

I will start off by saying this is a good book overall, however there are like 3 stories going on in this book at one time but yet they are all connected in some way and some issues I felt are unresolved.

The good: Jenny was more of a woman then anyone I will ever know, honestly she was truly amazing. Her bestfriend and husband made one hell of a promise to her and I for one was shocked a little.

I think Aisha and Connell were amazing but the push and pull was starting to get on my nerves a bit honestly, I understand the reason for it but it was still annoying. Around let's say 60% I started to really enjoy the book.. until

The bad: These randoms people started popping up and it seems like they were added for no reason, like I totally skimmed on the who Raven and the ex husband part because I didn't see how why those characters were added.. the ex husband yes I get but the whole other story line I didn't get why it was even in there at all.... totally lost and was shaking my head wonder what the hell does this have to do with anything, I get how it was eventually "tied" in but it still was pointless in my opinion

Also this story bounced like hell towards the end, I was like OKAY I thought this was about Aisha and Connell and then pops up Zamora and Jonus and then I start reading like OKAY I just jumped in a whole new book...

(BTW I totally think they should have had their own story because it after a while I was fully invested in their story and totally forgot about Aisha and Connell)

The book was good overall again just had a lot going on at one time.

My Aisha would be Tika Sumpter, Connell would be Derek Theler, Zamora would be Aja King

What a terrific romance novel! I loved this book. I agree with some of the readers that the book is a bit too long and has so many great stories that probably could have stood on their own but I love LOVE and this story is so special with the love stories it tells. Jenny is such a special woman to want her family taken care of no matter what and I love Connell and Aisha. They have an amazing love story! Jonus and Zamora are adorable as well as Helen and Ben and the whole cast of colorful characters. The grammatical errors are a bit extensive the past and present tense are misused a lot and the author is so talented that I hope this book will do well enough to get a very solid editor as it would benefit from that but otherwise I would not change a thing about the book. I absolutely enjoyed it and I am glad that I found it. I highly recommend it!

This book was overall a good read. It had sweet and tender moments. Unfortunately it had a lot going on. A lot. I feel like this book was three or four novels smashed into one. Which could be okay if things were woven together more seamlessly. The author is talented and it mostly worked because the beginning had u so invested In the characters. The end was chaotic but satisfying. Although it was a bit unrealistic in some parts and chaos in others, the characters made it worth the read. 3.5 stars.

Wow !!!!!!!!! This is my first book by Priscilla and I must say this story was truly amazing. I mean there was so much love between Jenny and Aisha that went beyond friendship. There was a true sisterhood there. Then to go through the journey of Jenny and Connell was heartbreaking. Then to turn that hurt into a true love was just amazing. I have read a lot of stories but this here will forever be embedded into my heart and mind. LOVE LOVE LOVED IT.

I really liked the first half of this story. It got a bit confusing towards the end with all the Tribe of Eden members showing up at the house and the transformation of the little sister seemed a bit fast. Also, what was the point of Raven in the story? She seemed interesting enough to warrant her own storyline.

Really enjoyed this book. Appreciated the fact that the story progressed rather then remain stagnant. Ben and Helen were my favorite couple. Their personalities were infectious. There was an honesty about this story that I haven't found in the books I've read lately. I would have given it five stars but there many rough edges. Nothing an editor couldn't smooth out.

What could I say that hasn't already been said?

Definitely worth the read considering the price and the amount of pages it has. I felt it was a tad bit rushed towards the end but still giving it 5 stars.
