Як на мене, ця книжка добре підходить для розуміння того, як еволюціонувала фотографія. Тут якраз достатньо інформації про різноманітні техніки фотографії і такі поняття як дагеротипія, ціанотипія та автохром стають більш зрозумілими займаючи своє місце на шляху до того, що ми зараз сприймаємо як фотографію. Нам також демонструють скільки часу знадобилося на те, щоб камери обскури та пінхоли дали нам змогу сьогодні взяти в руки цифрову камеру або смартфон і зробити фото чи відео у максимальній роздільній здатності. Ну і мабуть найголовніше – нам показуюють як люди використовують цей винахід, викликаючи необхідну реакцію у суспільстві та тим самим створюючи попит на фотографію.

This covered a lot of ground and helped remind me of the artistic history of photography as well as the technical innovations. Some might not like the one-page treatment approach to each item but it was just the level I was looking for in a book.

I'm a digital photographer and started my career in digital, never got into film so I have no idea about its culture or mindset. This book is quite an insight into the history of image-making across the last century. If you've ever heard of the BBC series "the Genius of Photography", this is kinda the book-version of it. It gives snippets into every major moment or idea or even a technology that changed the landscape of photography till now. There's more history here than anything modern, don't buy it if you're looking to be inspired or anything. It's just a historical account of the main moments that defined what photography is today, a great list of those accounts.

a nice list of photographic developments - a good overview resource to use as a jumping off point to deeper study elsewhere. i'd like to have been able to give it 3.5 stars.
