Suzetta Perkins’ “In My Rearview Mirror” is about Margo and Jefferson Myles, a couple going through a divorce. Margo, at age 40, gives birth to twin boys but. . . . With who?
Jefferson, being the man that he is, has done his share of sneaky stuff but feels hurt by the fact that Margo doesn’t know who the father of her twins are. Is it really that important to Jefferson? Why or why not?
Malik Mason is in the race for the senate position and is trying to make sure that there are no skeletons falling out of closets. To make him look more of a family man and not a bachelor, he marries Ivy Miles, but is this a good move? Ivy just may have some ulterior motives and a surprise or two of her own.
With plenty of twists, turns, drama and romance ‘In My Rearview Mirror’ is an awesome read. It lets the reader ‘feel’ the emotions throughout the story.
This is my first book by this author and I look forward to the next one.
The book had a decent storyline, but after realizing the mother and daughter had slept with the same man. I was done. I like a good juicy story, but not on this level. I did finish the book and the ending was decent.

This book started off good. As I continued to soak up the story it got juicier!!! Needless to say the drama, secrets, twists and turns got better and better!!! AWESOME read!!!!! Definitely a page turner!!!!
Suzetta Perkins has penned another banger. This book left me with my mouth wide open and eagerly anticipating each page turn.
Imagine being pregnant and not sure if the baby's father is your soon to be ex or your one night stand who happens to be involved with a close family member? That stopped you in your tracks right. As you read this story, you dive into the life of Margo Myles again. She gives births to her twins and not sure who is the dad. She truly wants her ex, Jefferson to be the twins' father as she truly still loves him although they are just moments from finalizing their divorce.
Malik Mason, her one night stand and candidate for senator, wants to pay Margo back for dropping him like a hot potato, hence, he becomes involved with a close family member of hers. Unbeknownst to the family member, Malik might be the dad of the babies.
Ms.Perkins take you to a book version of America's favorite show, Scandal! This book has so many twists and turns that it leaves you wanting more all the way to the end. You will find yourself at times wanting to slap Margo and other times, yelling at Jefferson. Great suspenseful plot with a little bit of a love story. Job well done!
The opening of the novel was quite intense as if I was in the delivery room with the mother having twins, but sadly is indecisive due to the paternity of her twin children. As I read further, I sit and wonder after seeing names of another set of twins: Winter and Winston, then more names, I wonder how many children does Margo have by her husband, Jefferson Myles, and early on see the twists that are coming once you learn about her eldest daughter Ivy.
If you like political scandal, a bit of romance, and relationships, then this story will be a great read for your collection. There were a couple things that I easily figured out but it still was beautifully written and pace was just right to grab one's attention and still give a twinge of suspension. This is the first time reading this author; however, I sense that this book has a previous read in a series. I definitely see a taste of the sequel following at the end of the novel.
I received an ARC from Simon and Schuster to provide a complimentary review. (The copy I have is 407 pages, but since it is an advanced copy, not sure if the pages progressed in length or stayed the same).
In My Rearview Mirror picks up with Margo Myles giving birth and wondering the paternity of her twins. She is determined to raise her children alone but of course there is drama throughout this book. We have a senate race, a secret love relationship and scandal all wrapped in one book makes for a good story. Margo and Jefferson’s kids are trying their best to cope with their parents pending divorce as well as try to keep the family together. Ivy has to figure out how to keep her marriage and family together but know fireworks are going to fly. How does Margo cope with Ivy’s marriage as well as the other drama unfolding, readers will need to pick up a copy of In My Rearview Mirror to find out. In reading this story it flowed very well and by the end of the story there were a few characters that are still unredeemable. Most of the characters were likable while others will have readers wanting to kick them in the throat. The setting and dialogue worked well into the storyline and can make for a modern day soap opera. This my first book from this author and I enjoyed it.
Margo and Jefferson have been going through some tough times. Jefferson was in jail for a while and while he was gone, Margo slept with his best friend Malik. As it turns out, Margo gets pregnant with twins and come to find out, Jefferson is the father of one, and Malik is the father of the other. Needless to say, Jefferson and Malik are no longer best friends. Margo finds out that Jefferson fathered a child with someone else while they were still married and she files for divorce. In order to feel close to Margo because he's still in love with her, Malik marries Jefferson and Margo's daughter, Ivy. Of course, all hell breaks loose! There are lots of twists and turns in between but in the end, Jefferson and Margo renew their vows and their grown children are very happy abut it. Read: July 2013
When I first read the synopsis for this book, I thought “Great, it seems to have a mixture of everything I like: drama, politics, and romance,” so I should really enjoy it! And, In My Rearview Mirror definitely has a combination of all of those things and then some. The concept of the storyline is so crazy and scandalous that I couldn’t stop turning the pages.
There were a few parts that I thought were drawn out which made the book longer than needed which is why I didn’t give this book a rating of 4. And, this doesn’t have much to do with the contents of the book, but I really liked the cover. Overall, the book was well-written and has enough twists and turns that makes it a pretty exciting read!
MY RATING: 3.5
